To bude o úplně jiných rozpočtech. Jaké konkrétní využití by mohl mít v praxi nápad týmu LASAR? A jak podpořit vědu, aby podobných úspěchů měli Češi co nejvíc?---Ptám se já. In this episode, you'll hear about the future of the role of teachers in schools across America, insights on dramatically redesigning the learning experience around the key stakeholders―the students―and some strategies all teachers should use. The episode begins with “Amy's Thoughts,” presented by host Amy Valentine (0:37). She shares insights on the future of teachers―what can American educators expect as the profession evolves along with the K-12 system? The importance of teachers has never been more visible than during this period of widespread remote learning. Then, in the featured interview (2:59), Amy welcomes Nancy Conrad, founding chair of the Conrad Foundation. The Foundation has run the annual Conrad Challenge―an innovation and entrepreneurship competition for 13-18 year old students―for the past 15 years. Nancy explains that we need to accept what we don't know about the future, but at the same time seize the opportunity to create a new, better system for students. She explains how the “consumer” of education―the students―are the stakeholders who are never invited to the table and why we need to change this dynamic, and shares a number of key ideas about redesigning schools. Following the interview, this episode's Research Insight (17:46) indicates that most teachers don't yet feel comfortable integrating high-touch technology into instruction, but would like to receive training on how to do so. It's important to close this gap. Then, Jackson Caves, an Oklahoma State University student and Future of School scholarship winner, describes what online learning has meant to him (18:28). Even though he grew up in a small town and graduated in a high school class of fewer than 50 students, online courses gave Jackson the opportunity to get a head start on college coursework. The episode concludes with the “5-in-5” interview with Alejandro De La Peña (20:17), a rapid-fire session in which Alejandro gives a teacher's perspective on some of today's most important topics. Alejandro is a middle school special education teacher in El Paso, Texas. He talks about the way iPads have become the “staple of sped,” how surprisingly natural it can feel to teach and learn in an online environment, why his one big dream in education would be to better compensate teachers, and more. It all started when… The Conrad Foundation honors the legacy of Apollo 12 astronaut, Charles “Pete” Conrad, and his four-decade passion for innovation and entrepreneurship. Pete spent 20 years as a U.S. Navy Test Pilot and NASA Astronaut. In November 1969, he became the third man to walk on the Moon. After many years as an aerospace explorer, Pete’s entrepreneurial spirit took flight. He founded four companies devoted to the commercialization of space travel. Unfortunately, Pete’s pursuits were cut short with his passing in 1999. Nancy Conrad, Pete’s wife, shared his passion for inspiring future explorers, often working hand-in-hand with him prior to his death to launch his numerous commercial space businesses. In his passing, Nancy knew she wanted to keep Pete’s spirit for innovation and entrepreneurship alive, but targeted to the next generation of explorers. 15 years ago, this former high school teacher launched the Conrad Foundation and its flagship program, the Conrad Challenge, encouraging students to Get Your Genius On™. Since then, she has become a recognized leader in transformative education, testifying before the U.S. Congress and speaking at global conferences. She is dedicated to energizing and engaging students in STEM fields through unique entrepreneurial opportunities. Going into our 15th year, the Conrad Foundation continues to be the only organization of its kind whose programs combine science and technology-based education, innovation and entrepreneurship to inspire solutions for achieving global sustainability. Show Highlights Give your students an invitation to design the future The “No box” toolbox organic framework of innovation and entrepreneurship The Conrad Challenge will change the direction of lives How education can become diplomacy promoting peace “Pull Education” changes the way students learn Create authentic humans with opportunities for Geeky to Chic stardom Opportunity to create commercially viable products that solve global & local challenges for students “My belief is that they see the world very much like the astronauts did when, when the astronauts went back to earth and saw this fragile blue planet. This blue marble suspended in a black velvet sky, there were no borders. There were no boundaries and it's fragile. These young people that work with us from around the world. It has been from Australia to Zimbabwe and everything in between. They see the world that same way. They connect with each other across countries, cities, states, socioeconomic levels, genders. Nancy Conrad is the Founder and Chairman of the Conrad Foundation, based on the rich legacy of her late husband Pete Conrad, the Apollo I2 astronaut. Her mission is to promote collaborative, student-centered, real-world learning that fosters innovation and entrepreneurship and unleashes students' potential to create future-defining solutions and a sustainable society for generations to come. Ankesh Madan is an accomplished Conrad Challenge alumnus, whose entrepreneurial focus was sparked by his participation in the Challenge. He competed in the challenge in 2010 while attending a high school that specializes in math and science in North Carolina. He and his team were finalists in the Renewable Energy category, and he is currently a member of the Conrad Alumni Leadership Council. As an undergraduate at North Carolina State University, he and some fellow students co-founded Undercover Colors, a company that is addressing drug-facilitated sexual assault by developing products that detect date rape drugs. This invention sparked a flurry of media interest that spanned the globe. In 2008, Nancy Conrad established the Conrad Challenge, a multi-phase innovation and entrepreneurship program, which includes mentorship and support from worldwide experts. This annual global competition challenges students to combine education, innovation and entrepreneurship to create commercially viable, technology-based solutions to local and global real-world challenges. By enabling young minds to connect education, innovation and entrepreneurship, the Foundation helps provide a bold platform for enriching the innovative workforce of the future. Teams of students from around the world can enter the Conrad Challenge in one of several categories including the following: Aerospace & Aviation Cybertechnology & Security Energy & Environment Health & Nutrition Smoke-Free World Transforming Education through Technology Through the challenge, students learn to apply the Conrad Design Method (CDM), a structured five phase collaboration framework for teachers and student teams to understand and accomplish innovative and entrepreneurial solutions. Finalists congregate for an Innovation Summit at the Kennedy Space Center in April.
