Business Coaching with Join Up Dots

Every weekend we go back in time and dip into the Join Up Dots vaults to find a show that could well be hidden from your ears. And why do we do this? Well, you success junkies desperate for the golden ticket have been asking "With so many episodes of Join Up Dots out there now, which ones should we listen to first? And its a difficult question to answer as everyone of them has motivation and inspiration flooding out of every pore. So we have simply decided to grab an entrepreneur at random, and share with you not only their journey, but also ours. We think we are getting better at this podcasting lark, but what do you think? Drop us a line at contactjoinupdots@gmail.com and let us know. Thanks as always for listening to the show, and enjoy todays entrepreneurial business chat. Todays guest on Join Up Dots is a lady that has been delivering musical performances to the world since the age of seven, and I can imagine was belting them out in her bedroom even earlier than that too. She grew up on a farm in Missouri, and could often be found hanging around the local rodeo stadiums, where she would delight in such activities as Barrel racing, and getting up on stage and singing the National Anthem to the cowboys, cowgirls and of course the audience. There was certainly a ballsy approach to her upbringing as a small child, that has led her to take on bigger and bigger challenges as she has grown. And those challenges have come often as she has stepped into the country music world with her well received singles “Not Pretty Enough” and the foot stomping back to rodeo roots “Cowgirls”, whilst also forming a band and playing everywhere she can. Its the live work, that really sharpens your tools, and turns your talent into something that the world ultimately takes notice off. But don't just think that this is a story that is about a hugely ambitious country starlet racing her way to the top, as she is also trying her hardest to  give back to the world with a cause she is hugely passionate with, stopping bulling in childhood. As she says “When I started doing rodeo pageants, I received a lot of criticism and backlash from other kids. It was a difficult time, but thanks to the support I had with friends and family, I was able to overcome that time period. If I can help just one person feel like they are not alone, and that things will get better, then I will have accomplished what I set out to do.” And with a tour of schools undertaken, to speak about bullying she is taking action and inspiring youngsters throughout America to do things a different way. So what was it about growing up in such a rough and tumble environment that has helped her on her way to Country stardom?   And can she remember how she felt on those early occasions standing on the rodeo stages and the spotlight turning in her direction?   Well let's find out as we bring onto the show, to start joining up dots, with the one and only Josey Milner   Show Highlights During the episode we discussed such weighty topics such as: How when she started in the music business she knew she had to have a plan, as she also knew that she didn't have a clue how to start anything, so just took lots of action. How she remembers how she lost so many friends at college due to her belief in herself and their obvious lack of belief in themselves. How she struggles with song writing and is scared that the process is going to be hard every time she starts. How you have to look after yourself when you are school, and sometimes it simply comes down to standing up for what you believe is right.  And lastly….. How she looks back at the bullying in her life as actually part of what has made her flourish in a hard industry such as the music business.

At age 7, she began barrel racing at local rodeos, making the rodeo arena her first stage. She started singing the National Anthem at her youth rodeos, eventually graduating to performances at PRCA rodeos across Missouri and Kansas, including the American Royal in Kansas City. These anthem performances led to the decision for Josey to hang up her spurs and follow her dreams of country music fame. After a main-stage performance at the 2010 Pedal Steel Convention in St. Louis, Josey followed the advice of her much older and wiser musical elders: Form a band and play everywhere you can. The Josey Milner Band became one of the most sought-after live acts in the Kansas City area. Performing an ever-evolving and versatile mix of new country, classic country, country rock, and a little bit of Rock & Roll, Josey led the band through raucous sets at Buffalo Bill Days, Slater Fall Festival, Holden Street Fair, Timbercreek, The Landing, and numerous others, performing for sold-out crowds and claiming the title of “Kansas City's Princess of Country Music.”More recently, Josey has also opened standing room only shows for American Idol, Scotty McCreery, Chris Cagle, and Jon Wolfe. She has performed at CMA Fest and the Hard Rock Café in Nashville, alongside stars like Georgette Jones, Buddy Jewell, Lulu Roman and Ashton Shepherd, The Teddy Bear Festival for children's charities, and the Nascar Kobalt 400 in Las Vegas, for Welcome Home Troops. In November 2013, she performed for the International Music and Entertainment Association Awards, for which she was nominated in three categories: Best Country Female, Best Country Single, and Country Entertainer of the Year. She was also nominated for Shooting Star at the Nashville Universe Awards and Best Female and Artist of the Year at the Midwest Music Awards. With international airplay, charting, live performances and awards, and even a Facebook game using her image (A Better World) and a celebrity endorsement with Piaseci MD skincare, Josey is poised for world-wide stardom. One thing is for certain, wherever her music may take her, she will always remain the small-town girl with the rodeo spurs still hanging on her wall.

LaLuna for a deeper  look into Josey's career, anti-bullying campaign and new single, "Not Pretty Enough."  In December 2012, Josey released her new single, “Not Pretty Enough,” with veteran engineers Matthew Russo (Hall and Oates) and Larry Gann (Elton John) and producer, Micah Burdick. The single kicked off an anti-bullying campaign, with Josey as national spokesperson for Angels and Doves.  The single was the second most-added at country radio (New Music Weekly) in its first week of release, and it reached #23 NMW and #105 Music Row. It is currently #6 Indie World.  Josey is continuing with an extensive series of radio, print and online interviews, as well as taking her live shows to audiences across the Midwest and beyond.  She recently performed at the Nascar Kobalt 400, for the Welcome Home Troops Benefit, the Teddy Bear Festival to benefit children’s charities, and at a CMA Fest showcase in Nashville, this June.  Josey recently opened to a sold out crowd of 1500 for American Idol winner Scotty McCreery in late June and CMT star, Jon Wolfe in July.     In January 2013, Josey embarked on her very first radio promotion tour, visiting stations in Tennessee, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Oklahoma.  Also that month, she was named as one of the Top 10 “Hottest New Stars” in a book from PDS Entertainment. In April, Josey was nominated for Most Promising Youth Artist at the 2013 Independent Country Music Association awards.  One thing is for certain, wherever her music may take her, she will always remain the small-town girl with the rodeo spurs still hanging on her wall.  For more information on Josey Milner, please visit www.joseymilner.com.
