It is a privilege to welcome Lark to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.Lark is a fearless and dynamic indie-pop artist from Australia whose unmistakable style is influenced by the icons of her upbringing. Growing up, the boldness of 1984 Madonna, the glamour and attitude of KISS, and the infectious melodies of Swedish pop created a musical foundation that continues to shape her artistic expression today. With a rich background in the live music touring circuit, she has honed her craft on stages worldwide, opening for iconic artists including BB King, Johnny Johnson, and Men at Work.  In 2023, Lark started working with Australian Independent Producer of the Year, Jono Fernandez (Sia, Morgan Page). Together, they released her first single, “Unicorn,” an upbeat and quirky indie pop song brimming with positivity and tuneful hooks. For Lark, the single marks her musical rebirth and is dedicated to her besties. “Unicorn” quickly became a favorite for radio stations around Australia and Europe, where it went to number one on the Euro Indie Music Chart.  Following the release of “Unicorn,” Lark released a handful of other singles, including the dance floor no-brainer “I'm With You” and the optimistic indie-pop track “Good Good Energy.” Both singles quickly shot to #1 on both the World Indie Music Charts and the Euro Indie Music Chart, with the latter maintaining a solid position on both charts for over 5 months! Written for her daughter, “I'm With You” is about unconditional love and acceptance and features a wicked beat and catchy pre-chorus.  “Good Good Energy” is inspired by her move away from the big smoke and showcases her reconnection with nature.  Her single, “All I Want Is You,” saw Lark stepping into the dance side of indie. With a killer bass drop, infectious groove, and cheeky lyrics, this song is a road trip must-have and another dance floor banger. “The song is about missing someone so much and that sense of urgency to finally be together,” Lark explains. “I may or may not have envisioned myself being in the Fast and the Furious while I was writing this song.”   Unapologetically herself, Lark has embraced her journey of self-discovery and love while merging it with upbeat pop music. On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Lark shared her origin story, sharing the stage with the late BB King and Johnnie Johnson, and spoke about the stories behind some of her songs.    Let's connect on social media! International Music lovers of the World...and beyond,  This week we touch down wishing a year that the corporations once again pounced to hijack the euphoric and unstoppable beats rhythms and rhymes that infected our scene since the turn of the decade,  Reminiscent of the Decade before like when Disco ruled the airwaves dance-floors fashion and record stores. observing with envious eyes and ears the Intensionally Infiltrated the positively charged undiluted  and uplifting sounds from the 70s underground, once again praying for the day to assimilate this uplifting groove that had grown since 81-85 that its potency had the capability to induce true uplifting vibes seen since the 70s. This was unacceptable to them hence releasing a negative frequency that whilst undetectable to most! The dilution of Soul within our music was the objective but it would take time! And time is what they had. The introduction of studio created dance music originally crafted by DJs using deep R&B cuts as an evolutionary celebration bubbled away within the true underground known as Jack trax or Garage House was perfect to use as its potential was easier to create whilst its popularity was the right platform to aid in the dismantling of the age old craft of making music with instruments that has for an eternity lifted spirits through it's possible frequency's through dedication to become one with  instruments. The meteoric rise of house was no coincidence with its infectious repetitive groove was slowly tweaked to emulate a darker tone!  its popularity became to hard to contain...  Thus history was primed to repeat it self once again, Welcome back to the Star-Date 1986 this weeks Dance Decade,

Song: The Change Music by: Mary L. Cohen Notes: “My dad played the copper fish mold.” — aren't you curious now? Listen in as Mary Cohen and I explore family music, personal structures for improvisation, creating connections between incarcerated and not-incarcerated people, and more… We wander a bit through grief and disconnection and finding what is, in a conversation that's real and messy and touches on fear and joy, building a caring community for ourselves, our neighbors, the global world… living with regret and streaming grace to the person we were when we made a mistake; restoring connection. It's a glimpse of the rich variety of resources Mary draws on as she shapes her life… I hope to add some into mine. Songwriter Info: Mary L. Cohen, Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Iowa, is lead author of Music-Making in U.S. Prisons: Listening to Incarcerated Voices (2022). She co-founded the International Music and Justice Network: IMAJIN Caring Communities, a group of researchers from 18 countries who study music-making in prisons, and you are welcome to join by contacting Mary to get on the group email list (mary-cohen@uiowa.edu). From 2009 to 2020 she led the Oakdale Community Choir with incarcerated and non-incarcerated participants where participants have written over 150 songs, and the Oakdale Choir performed over 75 of these songs, available with the Creative Commons License. To continue working toward the choir's goals of building communities of caring through singing and songwriting, she founded the Inside Outside Songwriting Collaboration Project where partnerships between incarcerated and non-incarcerated songwriters create original songs, build relationships, and learn about transformative and generative justice. She has been a keynote for conferences in Germany, Canada, and Portugal, interviewed by the BBC3 Music Matters, and has over 40 publications in journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings. She leads weekly music groups inside the Juvenile Detention Center of Linn County. Sharing Info: The song is free to share, and Mary welcomes networking support and invites you to further your education and activism regarding environmental justice, restorative/transformative/generative justice, and simply acting with kindness to all you encounter. Song Learning Time Stamps: Start time of teaching: 00:05:45 Start time of reprise: 01:07:58 Links:  Oakdale Community Choir website: https://oakdalechoir.lib.uiowa.edu/ Dave Camlin's new book is Music-Making and Civic Imagination: A Holistic Philosophy. His website: https://www.davecamlin.com/civic There is a new 30 minute documentary film about the Oakdale Community Choir called "The Inside Singers." Song: May My Tears Water a Sapling Music by: Mary L. Cohen Notes: Mary Cohen's huge heart and willingness to do big work in the world shines through in this song, with lyrics sparked by the 2020 midwestern derecho with devastated so many trees. When we talk in next week's songwriter conversation, the depth of Mary's passion for how singing can support and feed change is evident. I hope you can join us as we explore the US prison-industrial complex and music, the role of mentorship, and how self-care can adapt. This "The Billion Dreams" episode will blow your mind away!In a world where social interactions are increasingly confined to digital realms, Mr. Bhattacharya is silently doing something in the realm of art and traditional music that is going to change the way the world views community and music. Today on the 17th episode of #TBD we are excited for you to meet a visionary architect of cultural preservation, Mr. Amitava Bhattacharya, the force behind a remarkable initiative shaping a global narrative, Bannabagram – Baul Ashram. Nestled in the serene embrace of East Burdwan District, Bannabagram stands as a testament to the fusion of creativity and nature, fostering an environment where artistic expression thrives through communities. A distinguished graduate from IIT Kharagpur and a Chevening Scholar on Leadership and Excellence from the London School of Economics, Mr. Bhattacharya's journey transcends conventional boundaries. A proud recipient of the ‘Times Now Amazing Indian' Award in 2013 and the ‘TiEGER' Award in 2014, and with a career spanning 33 years, he founded Banglanatak.com, a social enterprise dedicated to inclusive and sustainable development through culture-based approaches.Banglanatak.com pioneers the philosophy of "Making Changes Using Culture as a Tool," working tirelessly for the rights of women, children, and indigenous communities. This unique organization has propelled 270 musicians across Rajasthan, Bihar, and Jharkhand to participate in the preservation of community culture. Engaged in performing arts and handicrafts, Banglanatak.com breathes life into traditional art forms, making them relevant to contemporary times.Remarkably, nearly 1500 women from Bannabagram earn their livelihood through the art of 'Katha Stitch,' with 150-200 women actively involved in this enriching craft within the village. Mr. Bhattacharya's vision echoes the sentiments of Ashish Vidyarthi's father, Sri. Govind Vidyarthi, who dedicated his life to preserving performing arts. Much like Ashish's father, Mr. Bhattacharya ensures the sustainability of artists, providing a source of livelihood while safeguarding our cultural heritage. Hats off to Mr. Bhattacharya for orchestrating the beautiful concept of Baul, breathing life into India's art forms. If you yearn for soulful Baul music, Bannabagram is the place to be.We are blown away by how this village operates and how the community thrives, would love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments below.Spread the word about this commendable work.Share this episode with friends and family who love Indian Culture & Traditional Music.Stay tuned for more engaging conversations with trailblazers who carve unique paths, leaving footprints for others to follow and make a difference in our world.Until next time,Alshukran Bandhu,Alshukran Zindagi.-----Topics: 0:39 Who is Amitava Bhattacharya1:40 What is a Baul & What's its Purpose3:28 Age of Music Collaboration4:01 Influence of International Music in Rabindra Nath Tagore's Music4:17 Uillean pipes - A UNESCO Heritage 4:47 Why the name Banglanatak dot com?5:36 Going beyond West Bengal6:34 The Impact is Mindblowing7:23 Ashish's father Sri. In this episode, singer-songwriter Michael McDermott, a music industry veteran with an international following, shares the ins and outs of the business and his staying power. Michael, a heartland rocker who did not stop following his passion in exchange for a paycheck, continues to make music on his own terms.     Follow Michael:  Website: https://michael-mcdermott.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MichaelMcDermottMusic/?ref=s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michaelmcdermottmusic/ YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/user/michaelmcdermott   Follow John: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/johncerasani TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@johncerasani LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/johncerasani   For More Info on John's Book: https://2000percentraise.com/ More 2000 Percent Raise Episodes and Content: https://linktr.ee/2000percentraise   Topics discussed in this interview: Michael's story of heartbreak and arrested development, to his perseverance in building a career fortified by more than a dozen studio albums and critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, The New York Times, CNN, and the Washington Post (and even author Stephen King). His parents were very instrumental in his career. Michael becoming “washed up” at age 24 after early success, and then a long period of “desert life”, destroying everything–and his feeling of being a fraud when his third album failed. His drug problems and hsi nine years into recovery now. His business strategy of owning everything, and marketing himself as an independent. Pivotal moment when he learned his dad died broke, having covered for Michael. There was a resulting song, “Shadow in the Window,” about his grief and love for his father: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2IPPbpDLiM. How Michael built his fan base, and the nuances of performing abroad, and his international award. Dedication on why you do something, that he learned from his evolving friendship with Stephen King, who writes six hours every day.   “McDermott may well become one of his generation's greatest talents” - Washington Post   About Michael McDermott Michael McDermott's brand of rock n' roll brims with the kind of well-honed style and wisdom that can only come from a career on the road and a pedigree in the studio. Effortlessly blending natural folk sensibility, pop hooks, and honest rock, McDermott's music is as much for the outcast as the congregation. It's an exploration of the dark corners of life's journey and it resonates middle class truths through the passionate filter of a kid that grew up on Chicago's Irish South Side. If you are a fan of Springsteen, Van Morrison, John Steinbeck, Patti Smith then McDermott's inspirational rock is in your wheelhouse, waiting late-night with a guitar, spare smokes and stories of the American heart. “McDermott's music helped me to find a part of myself that wasn't lost, as I had feared, but only misplaced. That's why we love the ones who are really good at it, I think: because they give us back ourselves, all dusted and shined up, and they do it with a smile…Michael McDermott is one of the best songwriters in the world and possibly the greatest undiscovered rock & roll talent of the last 20 years” -Stephen King   Produced by: https://socialchameleon.us
