This week a movie Jordan stumbled across while watching previews for The Dark Tower on DVD. If you never heard of this one, that's the point! A buried mess of a film staring Ansel Elgort and Chloe Grace-Moretz, it follows a young white kid who desperately tries to solve the murder of his Black friend. And by solve his murder we mean try to get laid at every turn and find out his friend was every Black stereotype in one. We discuss why the hell a movie like this even gets made, how insufferable Ansel is, and generally roast the hell out of this one. Find us on Twitter (for now) at White_pod and hit us up at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com with your thoughts and comments on this movie and more. Also be on the look out for our Wakanda Forever coverage starting this weekend!
What if Sean Fury's "Bi-Racial Girl" was a movie? This week we discuss 1993's misfire, Made In America starring Whoopie Goldberg, Ted Danson, Nia Long and Will Smith. Helping us break it all down is the man who gave Cameron his first big break and cast member on East New York on CBS, Darien Sills-Evans! We talk about what went wrong with the plot of this one, the infamous Ted Danson blackface incident, and what exactly is "D-estiny"? Also Darien talks about his time as an extra in Scent of a Woman and Malcolm X. If you want to see Darien doing his thing in a bigger role, check out East New York on Sundays on CBS. You can also follow him on Twitter and Instagram @dasefatcap. And as always, you can find us on Twitter (for now) @white_pod and reach us at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com We love to hear from you! And speaking of, we'll be doing a few Wakanda Forever round ups in the coming weeks so be on the look out for those! We'll be back next week with *shudders* November Criminals.

“You can have everything. But if how you see everything is wrong, you have nothing.”Sacha GervasiToday I sit down with actor Jamie Dornan and filmmaker Sacha Gervasi, a man I love dearly and have known for over 20 years, to discuss their recent collaboration — My Dinner With Hervé, a brilliant new film premiering October 20 on HBO.Marking his 2nd appearance on the show (his first being episode 249 two years ago), Sacha's credits include scripting The Terminal, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks. In 2012, Sacha directed Hitchcock starring Anthony Hopkins and last year helmed November Criminals featuring Ansel Elgort and Chloë Grace Moretz. But Sacha is perhaps best known for Anvil! The Story of Anvil, his Emmy and Independent Spirit Award winning, real-life Spinal Tap rockumentary about an also-ran Canadian heavy metal band that many critics consider one of the greatest films ever made about rock and roll.Anvil explored what it means to never give up on a dream. Hervé picks up where Anvil leaves off, exploring the darker aspects of lofty dreams realized in a tragic comedy that lays bare the power of unchecked ego, addiction, and unhealed childhood trauma in fueling self-destruction.A look at the wild life of French actor Hervé Villechaize, who famously played Tattoo in the hit '70s TV series Fantasy Island, the film is based upon one insane night Sacha spent with Hervé (played by Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage) just one week before Hervé’s suicide, and the emergence of an unlikely friendship that permanently alters both of their lives. His very first script, it’s a movie Sacha began writing over 20 years ago. Both hilarious and sad, beautiful and surprisingly emotional, Hervé is hands down Sacha's best work to date. Peter Dinklage is a tour de force. And Jamie Dornan — as Danny Tate, a journalist loosely based on Sacha — delivers in an elegantly nuanced, powerful performance that will leave you with a new appreciation for this actor's depth and talent.Jamie is of course most recognized for his portrayal as Christian Grey from the 50 Shades of Grey movies. But if that’s all you know about this young man, you're in for a delightful surprise. I first came across Jamie's work several years ago by way of The Fall, a dark psychological thriller series co-starring Gillian Anderson, and was immediately struck by his keen ability to evoke pathos and empathy for a seemingly irredeemable character. But Hervé is a game changer for Jamie — a role I'm certain will leave unsuspecting audiences with a new and grand appreciation for this actor's considerable talents. On the surface, Hervé is about how a chance encounter between two people in various states of desperation find solace in each other's pain. One survives to embark on a new life. The other does not. Between the lines, the movie — and this conversation — is about not giving up on a dream. Hervé risked everything to become a star. And it took 20 years of persistence for Sacha to see this vision realized. But it's how one navigates success and failure that ultimately determines that which we truly seek — fulfillment, purpose, and of course happiness.Today we explore these themes. We discuss our predisposition to judge people based solely on their outsides. We dive deep into the delusion of fame. What happens when we pervert the need to be seen. And the emptiness purchased when we seek validation outside ourselves to salve the pain of life.On a personal note I can't express how proud I am of Sa... Johnny and Kevin are back for a quick discussion episode! The two recap their mixed feelings on November Criminals (3:35) and discover the first actor who has been in two Kicking & Streaming movies (7:15). A creepy moment occurs when the next bad movie is chosen (18:50) and Kevin goes on a mini rant about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the newly released Rampage movie (23:50). Johnny and Kevin then end the episode previewing the upcoming second seasons of Westworld (27:05) and The Handmaid’s Tale (33:15).
Johnny and Kevin have returned to watch the very very serious movie November Criminals. Dark jokes abound in a movie involving a dead character named Kevin, the police not listening to teenagers, and a tall, crying Ansel Elgort. Luckily, some light jokes making fun of Ansel Elgort and Chloe Grace Moretz’s hipster outfits make this a watch worth listening to. So skip Mandarin Class and listen to Johnny and Kevin chat through a watch of November Criminals on Amazon Prime! Just make sure to turn off your beepers before the movie starts streaming!

A 3 hour recording. The station is still changing transmitter every hour. This show includes Bob Edwards, Dave Birdman and Sarah from Kew.Bob plays a whole side of "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd and tells us that his car has sprung a leak so he got a wet posterior when going to a party with Sarah (but "not in that way").Sarah is back with her dedications show at 8pm. Many many new sketches from Dave Birdman throughout Bob and Dave's shows - one comparing Thameside 90.2 to other radio stations like you compare washing powders. Dave also plays the wonderful Portsmouth Symphonia and tells us about The Intrepid Birdman Appreciation Society pub crawl - which he didn't make it to!The music this week is pretty eclectic - it includes Joy Division, Kraftwerk, Saxon, Pink Floyd, Tom Lehrer and the Sex Pistols.Thameside Radio listeners mentioned include Renata, John Simmons for everyone on the CND rally yesterday, The gang of five, Thick as Thieves, November Criminals, Andy Cooper, John Shakespeare, Ian Hobbs, The operators at Castle House Exchange including Mrs Herne and Pam Roxborough from Michael Champion.
