Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies
Would you like access to our advanced agency training for FREE? https://www.agencymastery360.com/training Ever feel like running your agency is just one long grind of “good enough” projects, endless deadlines, and late-night work sessions? Most agency owners start out chasing freedom, only to find themselves trapped by clients, culture challenges, and their own workaholic habits. Today's featured guest is certainly familiar with this cycle, so how was he able to build a business that works for him instead of the other way around? By focusing on clarity, culture, and constant evolution. Dan Fisher is the founder of Bottle Rocket Media, a Chicago-based video production and digital marketing firm. Before running his agency, Dan spent a decade in television, including a long stretch as an editor at The Oprah Winfrey Show. What started as “making a few videos for people” turned into a full-fledged agency after his partner joined. Today, Bottle Rocket Media blends storytelling with digital strategy to help brands communicate with impact. In this episode, we'll discuss: Data meets creativity. The agency he “thought he should build” Culture as a compass. Redefining work and energy. He was a New York kid, worked on TV production in LA, and then got tapped on the shoulder for a gig at Oprah. When he landed in Chicago, he figured he'd be there a couple of years. Ten years later, he had a family, a house, and roots that weren't going anywhere. After leaving TV (not a moment too soon, according to him), he just started making videos for people. Then his partner came on board, and suddenly it was more than a side hustle. It was a real business. That's when Dan realized he was no longer just a TV guy—he was running an agency. What TV Taught Him About Storytelling TV wasn't all glitz. Dan loved the storytelling, the cameras, the lights. However, running a daily show can crush even the strongest souls. Deadlines piled on top of deadlines. Three to four episodes a week meant three to four immovable deadlines every week. Still, it gave him his 10,000 hours. He learned how to tell stories fast, direct, edit, and manage creative teams. Most importantly, TV taught Dan the importance of knowing your audience. At Oprah, there was always an “audience of one”—Oprah herself. He'd have the version he wanted to tell, and then the version she'd actually approve. That lesson carried into agency life: storytelling isn't about you, it's about your client. You're not making an indie film; you're telling their story in a way that serves their brand. The Continual Evolvement of Creativity Bottle Rocket Media isn't trying to be Hollywood. They focus on nonfiction storytelling, documentary-style content, education-driven pieces, spokespeople, and commercial spots. What makes their approach stand out is how they marry creative instincts with marketing data. Working in the creative field never ceases to surprise Dan who, even now, expects something to land well with audiences and sees the complete opposite happen. This is why he and his team lean into A/B testing. Sometimes it's the tiniest tweak: a subject line in an email, a color shift in a graphic, or moving the ending to the front of a video. It's a reminder agency owners need: you can be confident in your craft, but the market has the final say. From Filmmaker to CEO When he started, Dan assumed he'd be miserable doing the “operations” side. But mentoring, managing, and building a team turned out to be just as rewarding as calling “action” and “cut.” He's learned the balance between doing and teaching. Having 10,000 hours of experience doesn't mean you always tell the story better than a fresh intern. It means you know how to refine, manipulate, and see perspectives others might miss. At Bottle Rocket Media, they encourage collaboration. Editors critique each other's work. Ideas bounce around. And Dan stays focused on a critical question every creative leader should ask: Am I making it better, or just making it different? From “Good Enough” to Defining Excellence It took Dan years to reach what he calls his maturity, after trying to be “the agency he thought he should be”. Eventually, after banging his head against the wall for a long time, he realized the power of clarity—both personally and professionally. He started the business as a way to make ends meet after leaving TV, but it was time to define his goals with the agency and make it his own. Once he stopped chasing someone else's model and leaned into his own strengths, everything changed. The real turning point wasn't in working harder, but in defining what success actually looked like for him and his team. Culture as a Compass Clarity doesn't just guide you, it's also something you can instill in your team. Once Dan started defining his agency's beliefs, he could attract people who truly fit. To him, if your team is not going in the same direction, then what's the point? But culture hasn't been easy, especially post-pandemic. Bottle Rocket Media runs on a hybrid model: three mandatory in-office days, with Mondays and Fridays remote. For Dan, it was about letting go of his old Gen X “first one in, last one out” mentality and adapting to a younger workforce. The result is a stronger, more unified team—even if they're not physically together every day. Redefining Work and Energy Coming from TV, where it's not rare to work up to 70 hours a week, Dan initially started his agency using the volume model, which is what he knew. Once the business was up and running, his hours were still pretty similar to what he was used in TV. Eventually, however, it got to a point where a trusted employee expressed he was at his breaking point, and Dan knew it was time to dial down. Working beyond a certain limit didn't make him better, it was just making him an ineffective leader. That shift changed how he managed his team, starting by cutting off the bottom 20% and elevating the types of projects they do. This way, with clear goals and clear deadlines, he's building the kind of leadership that creates loyalty and sustainability. Always Be Evolving The agency game changes daily. Right now, AI is shaking up video and digital marketing. What worked yesterday won't always work tomorrow. If you want your agency to survive, curiosity is the ultimate skill. Test, adapt, and don't get too comfortable. That philosophy is why Dan's agency has evolved from purely video into a full digital offering. On the video side, he had to learn how to let go and empower others. On the digital side, he leans entirely on his team's expertise. In both cases, growth depends on staying open to new approaches and trusting the right people to execute them. Do You Want to Transform Your Agency from a Liability to an Asset? In this episode of their Serving Up Pitt volleyball podcast, Post-Gazette insider Abby Schnable and former Panthers player Cat Flood break down the team's performances from the past week, which includes a statement sweep over No. 3 Kentucky and victories over Pepperdine and Jacksonville. Did this Pitt team announce its arrival on the national stage after beating Kentucky so handily? Have the Panthers found their footing after a rough start to the season that included two straight losses? How does this win shift their perspective in the national rankings? For the Kentucky game specifically, what does it mean for the team that it didn't have to overly rely on Olivia Babcock, as Dagmar Mourits and Blaire Bayless each also finished with at least nine kills? How are contributions from Bre Kelley and Ryla Jones helping? And what does it say about Dan Fisher's squad that it was able to hold its composure in those close sets against the Wildcats despite boasting a host of new players? Our duo answers those questions and more.
In the debut episode of Serving Up Pitt, Post-Gazette Pitt insider Abby Schnable and co-host and former Panther Cat Flood dive into Pitt volleyball's 2025 season. How will the team fill in around reigning AVCA Player of the Year Olivia Babcock? Abby and Cat preview the rest of the 2025 season after a rough start for the Panthers. How can they bounce back after starting the season ranked No. 3 but falling in their first two matches to Nebraska and Florida? Will the team's tough early schedule harden them for the months to come? And what is their ceiling — another Final Four appearance? Abby and Cat discuss their key takeaways from those matches and what they mean for Pitt moving forward. What do the Panthers need to fix before the upcoming State Farm Showcase at PPG Paints Arena, when they welcome No. 25 TCU and No. 13 Arizona State to Pittsburgh this weekend? They close the show with some rapid-fire questions on breakout players, team strengths, players to watch and more.

Pastor Dan Fisher and David Fiorazo discuss the importance of pastors re-engaging, ESG scores (Environmental, Social, Governance), federalism, Romans 13, Liberty Pastors (equipping and training godly men & church leaders), and of course, religious freedom.
On this Independence Day, discover how the pastors of the American colonies, derisively called the Black-Robed Regiment by the British, boldly taught their congregations the Biblical principles to resist tyranny. Guest host Adam McManus interviews Dan Fisher, author of Bringing Back the Black Robed Regiment: How the 18th century church stood for liberty and why it must do so again. Dan is the co-pastor of Fairview Baptist in Edmond, Oklahoma, a former member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 2012-2015, and ran for Governor in 2018. His vision is that the American church will regain the “spirit” of the original “Black-Robed Regiment,” and once again actively engage in defense of truth and liberty. In an impressive 60-minute, multi-media presentation in full period costume, Dan travels the country to portray these heroic men of American history complete with verified artifacts from our War of Independence. (Check out his schedule). Adam and Pastor Fisher discuss: * Pastor Peter Muhlenberg of Woodstock, Virginia who took off his black robe in the pulpit, revealing a colonel's uniform, and challenged the men to fight. * Pastor Jonas Clarke of Lexington, Massachusetts who trained his men to prepare for the April 19, 1775 showdown with the British which led to the shot heard ‘round the world on Lexington Green. * Pastor James Caldwell of Elizabethtown, New Jersey who brought hymnals to the Minutemen to use for wadding to fight the British. * Pastor Naphtali Daggett, president of Yale, who rallied 100 students to fight the Redcoats, which led to his capture and brutal treatment. * Pastor John Treadwell of Lynn, Massachusetts, who kept a loaded Flintlock in his pulpit, and who narrowly escaped death at the Battle of Bennington in Vermont. * The disturbing similarity between the church in pre-World War II Germany and the American church today. Both have, by and large, remained silent in the face of evil. This program includes: 1. The World View in 5 Minutes with Adam McManus (Tractor Supply Co. saw the light, The colonial pastors who took a stand against tyranny, Iran sentenced 5 Christians to total of 25 years in prison) 2. Generations with Kevin Swanson (Guest Hosted by Adam McManus)
It's Thursday, July 4th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Samuel Adams: “Let His kingdom come!” On this day in history, 248 years ago, the United States Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia. Largely due to the tireless work of Samuel Adams, who was successful in lobbying seven of the 13 colonies to endorse the plan, independence was made possible for the United States of America in 1776. Upon the signing of the Declaration, Adams declared, “We have this day restored the Sovereign to Whom all men ought to be obedient. He reigns in Heaven and from the rising to the setting sun, let His kingdom come.” Iran sentenced 5 Christians to total of 25 years in prison Authorities in Iran sentenced five Christians to a total of over 25 years in prison last month. Hamid Afzali received a 10-year sentence. Nasrollah Mousavi, Bijan Gholizadeh, and Iman Salehi each received a 5-year sentence. And Zohrab Shahbazi received a nine-month sentence. Hengaw, a human rights organization, reports that officials have given no reason for the charges against the Christians. The group noted that although Christians are “acknowledged as a religious minority in Iran, authorities impose severe penalties, especially on those who convert from Islam to Christianity.” Iran is ranked ninth on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. Conservatives dominated French election France held its first round of voting for its National Assembly on Sunday. The conservative National Rally won 33% of the vote followed by the leftwing New Popular Front at 28% and President Emmanuel Macron's centrist Together bloc at 21%. Voter turnout was the highest on record since the 1980s. The popular National Rally opposes uncontrolled immigration, supports the growth of French families, and wants to eradicate Islamic ideologies from the national territory. Daniel 2:21 says God “changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings.” Federal judge sides with Kansas against Biden's transgender push In the United States, a third federal judge -- Louis Guirola Jr. -- has halted the Biden administration's push of the unbiblical transgender agenda. A new rule from the Education Department allowed boys, pretending to be girls, to use girls' locker rooms and compete in female sports in public schools. A federal court in Kansas ruled against the Biden administration on Tuesday. Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach said, “We're pleased the court ruled to rein in the administration's vast overreach. It's unconscionable, it's dangerous for girls and women, and it's against federal law.” Tractor Supply Co. saw the light Tractor Supply Co. is walking back its support for left-wing causes. The retailer, which sells farm equipment and feed for livestock in primarily rural America, employs 50,000 people across 2,200 stores. To its shame, it rolled out a series of woke initiatives like funding drag queen shows and paying for disfiguring sex changes. After Tractor Supply got an earful of angry pushback from its conservative customer base, it released a statement last Thursday, acknowledging it had disappointed customers. Tractor Supply said it will no longer work with the Human Rights Campaign, the largest lobbying group in the U.S. for sexually perverted lifestyles. The company also said it would eliminate Diversity, equity, and inclusion roles. I urge you to thank Tractor Supply Co. for seeing the light and returning to their conservative values. Between 7:00am-9:00pm Central, Monday through Saturday, call (877) 718-6750. Or send them an email through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. Pro-abortion vandals in Miami held accountable Vandals with the pro-abortion terrorist group, Jane's Revenge, spray-painted threatening messages on the property of a pro-life pregnancy center in Miami on July 3, 2022, just nine days after the Dobbs decision which overturned Roe v. Wade. First Liberty Institute reports that Heartbeat of Miami has finally reached a settlement in the case the details of which have not been made public. The religious liberty organization said the vandals are being held to account, calling it a big win for Florida's pro-life community. Jeremy Dys with First Liberty said, “This case is a reminder that no one should suffer violence for simply providing faith-based counseling and baby supplies to women and their babies.” Isaiah 1:17 says, “Learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.” Block-Robed Regiment: Colonial pastors who took a stand against tyranny As Kevin Swanson travels and speaks abroad, I guest host for him today on Generations Radio. On this Independence Day, discover how the pastors of the American colonies, derisively called the “Black-Robed Regiment” by the British, boldly taught their congregations the Biblical principles to resist tyranny. Take a listen to my interview of Dan Fisher, author of Bringing Back the Black Robed Regiment: How the 18th century church stood for liberty and why it must do so again. We discuss: * Pastor Peter Muhlenberg of Woodstock, Virginia who took off his black robe in the pulpit, revealing a colonel's uniform, and challenged the men to fight. * Pastor Jonas Clarke of Lexington, Massachusetts who trained his men to prepare for the April 19, 1775 showdown with the British which led to the shot heard ‘round the world on Lexington Green. * And Pastor James Caldwell of Elizabethtown, New Jersey who brought hymnals to the Minutemen to use for wadding to fight the British. Listen to this important interview with your kids at Generations.org/radio. That's Generations.org/radio. Pro-life father of 11 avoids jail time for his pro-life activism And finally, a pro-life father of 11 will not have to serve prison time despite the efforts of the Biden administration. The so-called Justice Department was seeking a year in prison for Paul Vaughn for participating in a peaceful protest outside an abortion mill in Tennessee. Instead, a Tennessee judge gave him a sentence of three years of supervised release. While the Thomas More Society was pleased with the judge's leniency, they still called his conviction a deep injustice. Following the verdict announcement, the group of pro-life supporters of Paul Vaughn spontaneously broke out in praise to God by singing the Doxology. PRO-LIFE SUPPORTERS of PAUL VAUGHN: (singing) “Praise Him above the Heavenly Host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.” PRO-LIFER: “Alleluia.” (group claps) Vaughn said, “We will appeal to have this unlawful use of the law overturned. We must stand and fight for what is right. We cannot bow down to the lie. Laws have to be grounded in truth. They have to align with the ultimate Lawgiver, who is Christ our Lord.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Independence Day, July 4th, in the year of our Lord 2024. The song “Replacement” on A CHORUS OF DISAPPROVAL's “Truth Gives Wings to Strength” LP is something of a cause célebre in the hardcore scene. Released in 1990, this song seemed to come with its own set of history behind it that was completely separate from the band itself. CHORUS Guitarist Jeff Banks explains this version presented here, culled from a practice demo that, despite saying it was VISUAL DISCRIMINATION, was really a pre-cursor to the eventual Visual Discrimination of Nemesis Records lore... “Jeff Simmerman, Dan Fisher and Derek Alford had this Peace Punk band out of Lakewood, CA with a working title of Visual Discrimination. Simmerman got kicked out of Artesia high school and started going to Cerritos and we got to talking in auto shop. Steve Winders, Tim Sawyer and I were in Dead Tradition with Tim's brother Byron and some guy named Morgan. Morgan was a great drummer, but I wasn't his favorite guy. Jeff Simmerman invited me to his house to jam. Turned out Derek Alford was just learning and couldn't really play the guitar, so it became Fisher and Simmerman and me. We got this kid David Hauck to sing a couple practices. I had written a few riffs, and Replacement was written at this time. I was such a huge Stalag 13 fan that I was trying to channel the song In Control through Replacement. When Dead Tradition kind of fizzled, I told Fisher and Simmerman that I have these two guys that could probably round out the lineup nicely. That's when Sawyer and Winders came into the fold. We played as that lineup for a little while and then the band split up into two factions. Fisher, Sawyer and Simmerman started a true Peace Punk band called Non-fiction with a guy named George Contreras from Cerritos. They recorded a demo and it was great. Very Discharge meets Iconoclast and locals peace punk band 5th Column. Steve Winders and I started a Straight Edge band in the mold of Uniform Choice called Denial with Steve's brother Jeff and some guy in my biology class named Rory Cowan. We recorded a 12-song demo, and Replacement in its most polished form was on that demo. After about a year, both bands fizzled. We decided to reform and combined Nonfiction and Denial, including the songs, etc. We needed a bass player, and there was this kid named Junior Beloki, who was in a history class where I was the teacher assistant. So I asked him if he would be interested and he was. So he became the bass player. That was the lineup for the demo and the first record. I always thought the Non-fiction songs were stronger than the Denial songs I had written. Replacement was cut and relegated. Once Chorus got going, many of the old Cerritos Straight Edge crew were calling for old Denial songs. The people on that montage on the Chorus record calling for Replacement are Gary Hornberger, Boxer Hardison, my dad, my mom, my high school basketball coach Don Saul and one of my old City of Cerritos supervisors Ernest Vital. He was the guy we all picked up the phrase 'Dud' from when we thought something was weak. We all still say to this day." A presentation by Pastor Dan Fisher author of "Bringing Back the Black Robe Regiment." Pastor Dan Fisher Author, Bringing Back the Black Robed Regiment Dan grew up in western Arkansas and felt God's call to the ministry very early. He preached his first sermon at 16 and by the time he was 23, he was the full-time pastor of Immanuel Baptist, Poteau, OK. Forty-three years after his first sermon, Dan continues in the ministry as the co-pastor of Fairview Baptist, Edmond, OK. He and his wife, Pam, have been married for 38 years and have two children and four grandchildren.Dan has always believed Christians cannot compartmentalize their lives into the “secular” and the “sacred,” but are rather to be “salt and light” in every area of society – including government. And since Americans live in a representative republic, Dan believes it is essential that “the people,” especially Christians, do their duties as citizens. In 2008, Dan started presenting what has become his highly acclaimed “Bringing Back the Black Robed Regiment” presentation. In it, he tells the amazing and inspiring story of the Patriot Pastors of the 18th century who preached the biblical principles of liberty and government from their pulpits and who, when the time came, led the men of their congregations and communities off to defend those principles on the battlefields of our War of Independence.Over the years, the “Black Robed Regiment” presentation has grown into a “true” stage production with Dan in full period costume using multimedia and actual “identified” relics from our War of Independence to challenge today's church to stand for liberty as the 18th century church did. As he warns, “If today's church does not stand as our founding generation stood, we will not only lose our republic, but our liberties as well.”In 2012, Dan continued to “live out” the Black Robed Regiment story by being elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives where he served for two terms - while continuing to serve as full-time pastor of the 1000-member Trinity Baptist in Yukon, OK and while continuing to present his Black Regiment message around the country. In 2015, frustrated with compromising “so-called conservatives” in the OK Legislature, and feeling the need to commit more time to his church and “Black Robed Regiment” ministry, Dan chose not to run for a third term – even though he was unopposed. That same year he also left Trinity Baptist, where he had served for twenty-three years, in order to expand his “Black Robed Regiment” ministry. But God had additional plans and that same year, Dan became the pastor of Liberty Church, Yukon, OK and in 2018, he ran for governor of OK where he garnered 36,000 votes and came in fourth out of 10 Republican candidates. In 2019, Dan became the co-pastor of Fairview Baptist, Edmond, OK where he serves beside Pastor Paul Blair. Dan's vision and prayer is that the American church will regain the “spirit” of the original “Black Robed Regiment” and once again actively engage in the defense of truth and liberty. Through his work as pastor, state representative, and leader in the modern Black Regiment movement, Dan endeavors to see that vision fulfilled.
