Becoming – Husband Know Your Wife, Men Set the Tone Part 2, Tackle the Text with Pastor Keion HendersonIn this episode of Becoming with Angelina Watkins, Angelina continues to break down the nuggets of Tackle the Text episode titled Pursuit of Happiness in a Relationship.Men set the tone and the woman creates the atmosphere. Pastor Moore advised men to know your woman. Dwell with her with understanding because she is a reflection of the husband. Go back and look into her past to understand who she is. If she has anxiety, where did it come from? Does it run in the family? It is important for the man/husband to be attune to his woman/wife. Understand who she is and how she operates. If you have a good woman, she is there to support you. Marriage is a partnership and she is there to make things easy. But many times because the man doesn't understand the woman, he mistakes her good intentions for something bad.Marriage is not a dictatorship where the man makes all the rules and decisions. Husband and wife are to submit to each other. The husband can do his part and the wife can do her part which is to increase and multiply. That is partnership.Episode Outline[00:00] A sneak peak into the episode[00:28] Music intro[00:36] Introduction [01:07] Topic intro [01:52] Know Your Woman Clip[02:13] Become attune with your woman[05:28] Dwell With Her According to Understanding Clip[06:00] She is following your attitude[07:53] She is a Reflection of Who You Are Clip[08:38] Working against the woman[10:30] Women increase and multiply[13:14] ClosingWhere you are is not where you have to be. Becoming – Men Set the Tone, Tackle the Text with Pastor Keion Henderson, Angelina Gives Her Take on Men Setting the ToneIn this episode of Becoming with Angelina Watkins, Angelina adds her thoughts to men setting the tone in a marriage.During the Tackle the Text conversation with Pastor Keion Henderson and two other pastors at Lighthouse Church in Houston TX, they discussed the men setting the tone in the marriage and household and the woman creating the atmosphere. Pastor Moore was waiting for his wife to set the atmosphere for him to change. He realized one day as head of household he can't wait for her to set the atmosphere. . . .he has to set the tone so then she can set the atmosphere. He had to be the change he wanted to see. If he wanted his marriage and his household to be better and more harmonious, he was going to have to change how he was showing up.But. . . .do women only create atmospheres? Do women not have a tone and just as easily as the man determine by her attitude (whether good or bad) how the atmosphere in the home will be. Just as the pastor changed, the wife could have easily decided to show up differently too.Women set a tone in how they want to be treated. And the energy you give is the energy you get back whether male or female.Episode Outline[00:00] A sneak peak into the episode[00:30] Music intro[00:38] Introduction [01:11] Topic intro [03:39] Men set the tone[05:35] Change starts with you [09:05] The woman creates the atmosphere[12:17] ClosingWhere you are is not where you have to be. As a pastor, what can you do to keep the children of your congregation from being tainted by the humanism of government schools? Start your own K-12 school. Taking it one step further, what can you do to ward off the indoctrination of very young children before it ever has a chance to take root? Start an open enrollment preschool. Our guest this week on Spotlight, Rev. Mark Moore of Belmont Bible Church in Downers Grove, is in the process of realizing both of these goals. Belmont Christian School is already in operation and Belmont Christian Preschool is scheduled to open for the 2022-2023 school year! Rev. Moore, David Smith, and Monte Larrick talk about the advantages and blessings of a Christian education, as well as the ministry opportunities a church-based school brings to the host congregation. They also discuss the impact of COVID-19 on churches, the scriptural imperative to meet together as the body of Christ, accountability, and stewardship. Pastor Moore is the senior pastor of Belmont Bible Church. He also is the host of Overcoming Through Grace which can be heard weekdays at 5:30 a.m. on AM 1160 Hope For Your Life. Pastor Scott Dudley joins Pastor Moore and Pastor Jeff for a conversation on the importance of Biblical integrity in the pursuit of racial justice. The three talk candidly about how the church can and should be the leading voice in reconciliation. They unpack how the lack of transformative discipleship has affected the white church's witness. Pastor Dudley is the Sr. Pastor at Bellevue Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, WA (www.belpres.org).
Two pastors talk openly about the complexities of racial justice work in the church. Pastor Jeff encourages white pastors and Christians to take responsibility for their own education when it comes to racial justice. He explains how we cannot put the burden on our African American brothers and sisters to educate and lead us into this space and how owning the work builds trust for deeper relationship. Pastor Moore unpacks the effects on African Americans who feel that burden to help white Christians. He encourages African American Christians to take the risk in building relationships with their white brothers and sisters and points out the beauty in embracing these relational opportunities.
A white pastor talks about the humble journey to anti-racism work and his steps to shepherd his congregation. From acknowledging the problem to prayer and pushback, Pastor Jeff shares his experience leading a church to racial justice work. Good friend and colleague Pastor Moore shares exhaustion from continual racial discord, offering continued patience and the audacity to hope for a better future. Two pastors encourage Christians to build relationships and take action for racial justice. Pastor Moore shares that “Racism is not a political issue, but a Christian issue that breaks God's heart.” He also reminds us of Micah 6:8 and Jesus's mandate to set captives free. Pastor Jeff explains how our sinful world perpetuates a racialized society. They also address the white moderate, complicit silence, young white activism, sinful racialized stereotypes, using one's prophetic voice, and resources to keep learning.
