While we're waiting for the Deep Space Nine series, Nine Deeps of Space, to catch up, I'm sharing a series of reviews for Enterprise One. Enterprise One is a Star Trek series I worked on with Dr. Izixs. We hash out the stories, then I give reviews of them. It breaks a bit and there are some plotholes, but it's a satisfying conclusion. I wish I could write why slowly enough that other people could read and get them, but let's try: It's good because it has S T A K E S and C O N S E Q U E N C E S. The universe isn't going to blow up and our characters don't let the "ends well" declare the rest of their actions "all well." We give up things to get other things and our characters change a bit, usually for the better, as result of all of it. Even Kira who maintains she did nothing wrong she lost, but doesn't recant the principles which made her fight. Regular episodes of The Beige and The Bold will return with "Descent, Pt II" in three weeks' time, when Nine Deeps of Space has finished its second season.
What Makes American Conservatism better than any other way? Pt II. Dedication to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. What is the alternative? Death, servitude, and the pursuit of pleasure. Life and liberty are the two pillars of ethical life. History shows us that as the two grow in tandem, human life improves. When either is suppressed, the human condition suffers. Compare N. and S. Korea or East and West Germany. Happiness increases as it is shared, pleasure is finite. The left believes in power and control over others, conservatives believe in self-determination. Most notably, the left believes they must control the flow of information, with the idea of controlling how you think. Conservatives believe the free flow of ideas and information is key to human development. In order for a person to act in their rational self-interest, they must be informed. Who do you associate censorship with? Probably the Nazis, and other fascists, the Soviet Union? What free society engages in systemic, government-sponsored, or endorsed censorship? It is self-evident that censorship is incompatible with a free and prosperous society. Leftist, collectivist doctrines be they Marxist, fascist, or modern progressive, gain power by the doctrine of divide and conquer, hence their reliance on CRT, antisemitism, and of course, Marxist class warfare. The purpose of all of these is to pit one group of people against another. American conservatives believe in E Pluribus Unum, from many, one. They believe that all men are created equal and endowed with certain inalienable rights. Which do you prefer, one nation, under God, indivisible or one at war with itself, with those who sowed the seeds of division the only true winners? Perhaps the best commercial for American Conservatism are the anti-communist demonstrations currently in Cuba, where people have taken to the streets waving the American flag. They're not waving the EU flag, the BLM flag, or the Soviet flag, they're waving the American flag, knowing full well the ideals of liberty and freedom it embodies. Truly oppressed people recognize that the ideals held by American conservatives are intrinsically pro-freedom, anti-oppression. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jp-mac/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jp-mac/support
It's possible I have an ax to grind about people who have an axe to grind over the use of the word "discover"? I've got one. Last week was definitely the last of the good times before shit gets serious in the finale, but I like modern-day television's tendency to deliver big two parter season finales that give closure instead of awkward cliffhangers. Enterprise One is no exception. ...no, I haven't seen the finale of Loki. Was that important? Enterprise One is a Star Trek series I worked on with Dr. Izixs. We hash out the stories, then I give reviews of them. It's basically safe for work, but the technology of being safe for work while being not safe for work has come a looong way. Given that half the people who've seen my genitals in the past four years worked for the TSA, I feel it naturally dovetails with the message of security theater. "Not bad" is the best I can give it, due to its loose focus and broad set of characters. Regular episodes of The Beige and The Bold will return with "Descent, Pt II" in three weeks' time, when Nine Deeps of Space has finished its second season.

Enterprise One is a Star Trek series I worked on with Dr. Izixs. We hash out the stories, then I give reviews of them. Wow. I didn't watch a lot of Voyager, but this is a gangbusters Janeway and Tuvok episode and Kirk and Worf episode and even an Odo episode little bit and it manages all of that by having the arcs of each of those characters intersect the arc of the others. It's a Section 31 episode I don't hate. That's the highest praise I can confer on an episode of Star Trek.

It's another Prime Directive episode, but if you promise not to tell anyone, it's also about privilege and systemic problems. It's an Uhura-heavy episode--finally--and it's also B'Elanna Torres-heavy episode. I mean, Picard is in there too, and it undercuts Star Trek's tendency to put him in a pedestal. And it does that without making Picard look like an idiot. I mean, you could take Picard off of a pedestal while making him look like a decrepit idiot, but I don't see why you could do that when you could understand flaws in his character that make him a reasonable person who is just wrong sometimes. Who would be so stupid though? Regular episodes of The Beige and The Bold will return with "Descent, Pt II" in seven weeks' time, when Nine Deeps of Space has finished its second season.

Enterprise One is a Star Trek series I worked on with Dr. Izixs. We hash out the stories, then I give reviews of them. Woof. I guess if you're going to make a Star Trek fanfiction series, you've got to make a bad episode, and TToTEaLdL is one of those. When I'm making TBnTB, I can usually see what an episode was trying to do, but I'm at a loss here. I mean, I know this episode was trying to do an Arthurian Myth episode, but the goal of anything else in this 45 minutes of Star Trek mashed into King Arthur's Court like two action figures rammed together is a mystery to me. Regarding the execution of Spirk: Not gay enough. Enterprise One is a Star Trek series I worked on with Dr. Izixs. We hash out the stories, then I give reviews of them. It's about institutional incompetence and a culture based on doing one thing, and that thing isn't making peoples' lives better. It's obvious and not too deep and there's furrows in the story that separate things. It FEELS like an episode I guess, and that's a bit disappointing for a Kira-heavy episode that also features the trio of Geordi, Data, and Wesley. Enterprise One is a Star Trek series I worked on with Dr. Izixs. We hash out the stories, then I give reviews of them. Pure Ambition is the Doctor Bashir storyline worked backwards. The dramatic revelation about his genetic history is well-established except for some dialog and then we let his character speak out for that. Using one individual minority's character as a model for that entire morality is dicey, but that's kind of the point of the story. Sure, Starbase 47 was fun, but I feel like Pure Ambition is the first episode that's really good. But it features Tom friggin' Paris, so even odds there's something wrong with me. Enterprise One is a Star Trek series I worked on with Dr. Izixs. We hash out the stories, then I give reviews of them. Starbase 47 is the home port story I've been wanting to make for a long time. Most of the time, home port is Earth or Deep Space Nine and those huge, fuckoff starbases need to be for something. So we get that and a big establishing sequence that answers questions about everyone's families and give some gratuitous nods to canon. It's also our first Kirk episode and he gets to jam on a mystery with Odo that involves Tellaries and Federation civilians. Admiral Ross is still an idiot. It's a great time. Chain of Command, Pt II is one of the best episodes of the series. We get payoff on our construction of Jellico and the Cardassians in that we see the almost self-destructive need for control that runs through both. And I'm done with my defense of Jellico. Obviously, the narrative is against him, but I don't think that's reason enough to scuttle him. I'm a "death of the author" guy. A story can make a character that's a laudable person even while it's trying to undermine them morally. "Paradise Lost" is the example that's easiest to call up. But Jellico brings nothing to the table. If you're a person who is pleased by the exercise of power on behalf of your ingroup, you might admire his hard line on the Cardassians, but Picard is just as capable of doing that and he didn't put all of his skill points into "raging as--jerkhole." Am I too down on US culture here? Can I flog my own culture over Guantanamo Bay, then flog them slightly harder because they didn't listen to Star Trek? Except, instead of flogging, it's whipping the brickwork of the wall around their estate with a wet noodle. More clearly: is Star Trek any good if it makes people excited over starship aesthetics, camp plots, and the finer points of the history of the Star Trek Universe instead of making them outraged over their country's immoral behavior? The Beige and The Bold is hosted on Anchor and is available on most podcasting platforms. New episodes usually go live on Sunday nights at 10:00 PM CST.

In Episode 7, Luke Skywalker has disappeared and the First Order has risen out of the dust of the Galactic Empire. What’s that? This isn’t Star Wars? This is Dude, Did You Hear? Oh, ok. In this episode, we discover we may be in a simulation, one made by crazy intelligent beings. A simulation with SWORD WATCH 2017 PT II! A simulated world where kids are finding WWII planes in their backyards and lawyers pants are literally on fire. Plus the dudes dive into Logan and Kong: Skull Island (and their opinions) to prepare you for your weekend at the movies. Dave and Andy are drinking Sapporo and Pacifico (in cans!). ——————————————————————————————————— Dude, Did Your Hear? The ancient Persians debated things twice. Once while sober. Once while drunk. Debate class must have been a riot. It wasn’t money burning a whole in this lawyer’s pockets. His pants caught on fire during an arson trial, giving new meaning to “liar, liar, pants on fire.” Neil De Grasse Tyson thinks it’s a coin flip for whether we’re currently living in a computer simulation. Upon further review, Andy and Dave decide to take the blue pill. They just don’t want to be hassled. The Vikings stadium is killing a record number of birds. Not the Falcons, Eagles, or the Cardinals. Birds that don’t know the difference between 4-3, 3-4, and large structures impeding their flight path. The Return of Sword Watch 2017! Plus a LINK! A kid overachieves on his WWII history report. By a lot. (Bullwhip, Leather Jacket, and Fedora not included) Dave and Andy debate Kong: Skull Island – Dave can’t switch his brain off, Andy can. Somebody liked it, you’ll never guess who. Logan is an action movie masterpiece. GO SEE IT. RIGHT NOW! But leave the kids and faint-hearted friends at home. Seriously, you better be reading this in line at the theater. We Recommend: Drinking coffee black and gives tips on how to get there. Like a bowel movement, Andy and Dave enjoy their coffee dark, smooth, and oily. Bringing a book. Unless you can’t read. It’s good for your brain... And society. We Don’t Recommend: Having no real relationships. Dune? Don’t. Patrick Stewart has a weird mullet, Sting is gyrating in a loincloth and, unless you studied, you won’t make it through the first act. Dave also doesn’t recommend selfies. Or killfies. Or people who use the word killfie.

This thesis contributes to the coordination chemistry of aziridines, 2H-azirines and P-mesitylphosphirane as ligands towards transition metals. The focus is set on transition metal halides and organometallic complexes of electron rich transition metals like for example W(0), Re(I), Rh(III), Ir(III), Ni(II), Pd(II), Pt(II), Cu(II) or Zn(II). Different strained mono- and bidentate three-membered ring systems are used as ligands. In many cases the purified complexes were characterized by routine analytical methods like NMR, IR, UV/Vis, elemental analysis and mass spectrometry and also by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Beyond the discussion of solid state structures, selected NMR- and IR-spectroscopic data of the complexes and the free ligands are compared and the coordination induced effects of various transition metals are discussed. In the case of aziridine and 2H-azirine ligands a remarkable stabilization of the ligand system was observed. This effect is rather surprising, if Lewis- or Brønsted-acid induced polymerization reactions of aziridine or transition metal induced rearrangement reactions of 2H-azirines are taken into consideration. The ionic chain polymerization mechanism of aziridines is obviously disfavoured compared to complexation and template reactions under the applied reaction conditions. Nevertheless when excess ligand stoichiometry was applied, metal mediated template dimerization reactions of aziridines yielding N-aminoalkylaziridine complexes could be observed. In collaboration with Budzisz et al. the cytotoxic activity of selected aziridine and 2H-azirine complexes towards cancer cells was studied and is presented in this work. A series of 2H-3-(4-R-C5H4)-azirine (R = H, Me, Cl, Br) derivatives with electron withdrawing and weak electron donating substituents were prepared and used as novel highly strained imine ligands in the coordination chemistry of zinc(II)- and palladium(II)halides as well as organometallic rhodium(III), iridium(III) and rhenium(I) complexes. In the 2H-3-arene-azirine ligand series a surprisingly strong reduction of the sigma-donor strength from methyl to chlorine substituents was observed. This effect is primarily due to the negative inductive effect of the halogeno substituent of the phenyl moiety. The high reactivity of the strained, monodentate 2H-3-phenyl-azirine ligand system towards nucleophiles was demonstrated by the reaction of zinc(II) and palladium(II)-azirine-complexes with alcohols like methanol and ethanol. Their nucleophilic attack yielded in the template dimerization of the azirine ligands in vicinal position to each other in the case of zinc(II) or ring opening reactions of the azirine ligands in trans position to each other in the case of palladium(II). Postulated mechanisms for both reactions are presented in this work. Four of the solvolysis products were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Finally the bulky three membered P-heterocycle P-mesitylphosphirane was prepared and used as ligand. It was possible to isolate two phosphirane complexes of ruthenium(II) and iridium(III). The iridium(III) complex was characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and exhibits interesting structural information concerning the three-membered ring geometry compared to analogous aziridine complexes. In summary a series of by the majority electron rich complexes of aziridines, 2H-aryl-azirines and P-mesitylphosphirane were synthesized. In many cases structural characterization by single crystal X-ray diffraction was possible and yielded manifold coordination geometries. Additionally promising results concerning the biological activity of selected ligands and complexes against a series of cancer cells are presented.
