In this episode, we take you to Mexico City where Independence Day is in full swing. We use the information provided by the Irish Hooligan to go and spend the day with some lucha libre fighters in a “dangerous part” of Mexico. For Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), then, we go to San Cristobal de las Casas and we attend a rave in the woods, learn about the Zapatista movement and we meet the people trying to build a gym in order to provide positive environments for the children of the city. Finally, we go to San Jose del Pacifico and we go on a magic mushroom journey in one of the most beautiful settings in the world, in the company of a former Mayo hurler. Before all that, there is part five of Eoin's hitchhiking journey, where he desperately tries to get out of Paso de Indios.

Adam and Regis discuss the five imperatives Heidrick has identified through which leaders can focus their capabilities and, over time, become what we call connecting leaders. These imperatives are: envision the future, deliver today, act with purpose and courage, harness the power of others, orchestrate ecosystems, and cultivate a learning mindset. This week Allen highlights Pacifico Energy's efforts in developing offshore wind power in Vietnam, including meetings with government officials to support the country's clean energy goals. Starting off the week, US-based Pacifico Energy is ramping up efforts to develop offshore wind power projects in Vietnam. The company's CEO met with Vietnam's party general secretary in Hanoi recently, and the party leader highlighted Vietnam's goal to become a high income nation by 2045 with net zero emissions by 2050, emphasizing the need for stable clean energy sources. Pacifico affirmed Vietnam's immense potential for offshore wind power and pledge continued investment to support the country's growth objectives. Now, Vietnam's renewable energy sector is attracting strong international interest with the government recently reactivating nuclear energy plans in its south central province. Over in Ireland, Irish researchers at Southeast Technical University in partnership with Technology University Dublin, have developed what may be a revolutionary maintenance solution for offshore wind turbine blades. The Clear Blade Project focuses on cold spray, leading edge erosion repair technology. Environmental factors often cause rapid wear on turbine blades, as we all know, with defects appearing within one to three years of installation, requiring expensive repairs. The project proposes a novel, portable polymer cold spray technology for quote unquote infield repair, potentially extending blade lifespans and reducing maintenance costs. Wind energy contribute 32% of Ireland's electricity generation in 2024 with the government planning to develop 14 gigawatts of wind capacity by 2030. And over in Spain, Iberdrola the Spanish Energy Giant is seeking a partner willing to buy a minority stake in a roughly one gigawatt renewables portfolio according to news source. Reuters sources familiar with the matter described the project as Romeo 2.0 referencing a previous deal where Norway's Sovereign Wealth Fund took a 49% stake in a 1.3 gigawatt portfolio, valued at approximately 1.2 billion Euros. The deal aligns with Iberdrola's strategy of selling minority stakes in advanced projects to fund new investments. Iberdrola's Finance chief recently stated they were working on two or three such assets rotation projects to complete this year. And that's this week's top. News stories. Stay tuned for the Uptime Wind Energy Podcast tomorrow.

"It just goes to show how sad of a place the surf industry is in." That was Mateus Herdy, mid-Stab-Highway, as he and Ben Gravy lovingly roasted each other for the umpteenth time about their divergent paths to surfing success. The argument began when Mateus mocked Ben for dressing "like a ten year old", to which Ben responded, "It must be really hard for you that I'm not even a good surfer, and I still get paid more than you." Written on the page, that may come off as arrogant — but Ben's cheekiness and sarcasm (even when telling hard truths) is a real highlight of our 7-episode east coast road battle, now premiering on Stab Premium. Turns out that beneath all that kooky positivity is a guy who's well and truly in on the joke — and very much playing it to his favor. By the end of the trip, the sponsorship gag had developed to such a point that, either out of pity, amusement, or a genuine business opportunity, Ben Gravy offered Mateus a legitimate sponsorship deal with his own clothing line. "We had an agreement and everything," Ben explains. "I'd pay him $500 a month, and he'd rock the sticker 2/3rds of the way down his board. And he'd wear the tie dye shirt, because that's the only one from my merch that isn't too 'colorful' for him." Before the deal could be signed, Mateus was off to Portugal and Brazil for the last two CS events of the season, where he would come painstakingly short (again!) of qualifying for the CT. The copper lining, however, is that Mateus is currently in talks with a few different brands about a proper clothing deal, he's got a Snapt5 part in the works, a hot stripper wife, he's currently competing for $100,000 in our Surf100 Challenge Series presented by Pacifico, and if there's any justice in this big, wet world of ours, he'll probably qualify for the CT in 2025. Gravy, meanwhile, continues surfing shit waves surprisingly well and cashing oversized fluorescent checks. He was kind enough to join us on this week's episode of The Drop with his long-lost Rip Curl Gromsearch rival, Buck. Enjoy!

He holds his peers in high esteem, praising their dedication, commitment, and selflessness to jump into action at one of the most treacherous and deadliest waves in the world to save people's lives. He and Dave talk about the rigorous training one must endure to become a lifeguard on the North Shore, and the vetting process, not only by other lifeguards, but by the community itself. Dave Prodan recalls meeting Dave Wassel for the first time and reminisces about Wassel's insane wave in the Code Green Swell of the Volcom Fiji Pro of 2012. They reflect back on Wassel's upbringing, how he got into surfing, lifeguarding, and the heroes he looked up to along the way. Wassel tells the story about how he initially got involved with YETI, how he still has his first ever YETI cooler he's ever bought, taking pride in the lasting products and the lasting relationships he's developed from being involved with YETI over the years. Prodan and Wassel look ahead to the Corona Fiji Pro Presented By Bonsoy, breaking down the differences between the main surf spots, Restaurants and Cloudbreak. Wassel shares his stoke for the women's progression and how excited he is watching the women on tour push the limits of surfing. He rounds out the pod by giving his best advice, answering listener questions, and the Lightning Round. Be sure to follow Dave Wassel on Instagram. Surfline CEO Ross Garrett joins us on The Lineup. Calling in from Nicaragua, Ross checks in with Dave to discuss his role as CEO of Surfline, what they are doing to turbo charge their product and service, and how they can refine the bleeding edge of performance. Ross highlights the ethos of discovery at Surfline and why they do what they do. He talks about the importance of staying connected to the “thing,” always making sure to take time to get in the water and surf, and reminds us of Surfline's humble beginnings as a 1-900 hotline to having a vast network of cameras all over the globe. He reflects on his own beginnings, cutting his teeth working at Surfer Magazine under Sam George, and his own personal mission to leave surfing better than he found it. He and Dave discuss having and being mentors, remembering the innovators that paved the way, like Surfline Founder Sean Collins, and the voices of surfing today before closing up the pod, answering questions from the Instagram community and our famous Lightning Round. Nielen o mezcale, no aj o tacos, pyramídach, tradičnom šamanskom rituále či múzeách v Mexico City bude prvá epizóda cestovateľského Všesvet podcastu. Elder Gods, surfing icons, and early pioneers of the mythical Grajagan, Gerry Lopez and Peter McCabe join us on the The Lineup! Gerry and Peter reminisce on their extended trips to Indonesia that earned them international reputation and fame for their tube riding, crossover surfing, and fearlessness at its virtually perfect waves. They reveal untold stories from East Java, their earliest memories of surfing G-Land, and becoming regulars at the world's first surf camp there developed by Mike Boyum, G-Land Surf Camp. They discuss surfing for eight to ten hours at a time and eating one meal a day, only after finally coming in from a surf. They reflect on their best memories performing “Blue Angels,” what they called their surfing when they performed crossovers and rode in the tube without ever colliding with each other as they surfed the same wave. They look back on Peter's history, how he got his start and his competitive stint in surfing, and their appearances in various films throughout their career. They wrap up the conversation astonished by the caliber of surfing today, amazed by its progression since they started, answering listener questions, and giving Peter his first go with the Lightning Round.
