If someone tells you how a book or movie ends - does it spoil the whole thing? Is it not worth watching or reading it? Or could knowing the ending first make the experience even better? Listen and find out. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/spoiler-alert-spoilers-make-you-enjoy-stories-more You may not remember this but about 20 years ago, personal computers and other electronic devices came with big instruction manuals. Of course, now they don't. We expect computers and just about everything else today to be user-friendly. Instructions should be minimal. This idea of “user-friendly” and the desire for a “positive user experience” is a fairly new thing that we can trace back to a point in time not very long ago. Cliff Kuang is a user experience designer and author of the book User Friendly: How the hidden rules of design are changing the way we live, work, and play (https://amzn.to/37T1Vi0). Listen as he explores the evolution from complicated to easy – which is just the way we like it. Should you bother trying to change someone's mind? After all, we know arguing doesn't work and neither does rational explanation. Perhaps it just isn't worth the effort – we should just let people believe what they want to believe. Eleanor Gordon Smith has researched this topic and written a book about it called Stop Being Reasonable: How We Really Change Our Minds (https://amzn.to/2R9OxQQ). Listen as she explains her research on why changing someone's mind is so difficult. In almost every workplace, some people complain that it is too hot while others say it is too cold. Regardless of your position on the subject, there is a way to feel comfortable no matter where the thermostat says. Top 5 Cost-Effective Ways to Boost Rental Property Value Are you a property investor wondering how to boost your rental income without simply raising the rent? In this episode, Todd chats with property expert Belinda about smart, cost-effective ways to add value to your investment property—by thinking like a tenant. From layout tweaks to smart appliances, they break down exactly what renters are willing to pay more for, and why those small changes can mean big returns. Belinda explains how repurposing underused spaces can instantly increase cash flow by turning them into functional bedrooms or study spaces. These aren't high-cost renovations, but clever modifications designed with rental demand in mind. She also shares personal examples where a few subtle upgrades—like fresh paint and a neutral smell—led to stronger tenant demand and higher rental offers. The conversation covers five key value-adds and long-term reinvestment strategies. It's not about spending tens of thousands—it's about understanding what tenants actually want and delivering that in a cost-effective, flexible way that still allows future resale adaptability. Tune in for valuable advice that can help property investors thrive in today's market!

Solar has gotten popular in Texas, and it's long been popular in FL. But before dropping tens of thousands on it, you should know that there are WAY EASIER and more cost effective ways to improve your home's efficiency. So join us and Travis Jones of Smart Roof & Home Performance as we discuss various aspects of building science, energy efficiency, and solar energy, particularly in the context of Texas. They explore the importance of improving home durability, the role of air sealing and ventilation, and the challenges of solar energy adoption in the region. Travis Jones shares his expertise in roofing and home performance, emphasizing the need for a holistic approach to home improvement that prioritizes energy efficiency before considering solar solutions. In this conversation, the speakers delve into the complexities of modern building practices, focusing on issues such as humidity control, ventilation, and the impact of building codes on home performance. They discuss the trade-offs of energy efficiency versus traditional building methods, the challenges faced by contractors in the roofing industry, and the importance of educating consumers about quality construction. The conversation also highlights innovative products showcased at a recent builders conference, emphasizing the need for continuous learning and adaptation in the construction field. TLDR: Building science encompasses durability, comfort, health, and efficiency. Improving energy efficiency can reduce the need for solar panels. Air sealing is crucial for maintaining indoor air quality. Solar energy may not be cost-effective in Texas due to low energy prices. A well-ventilated home is essential for preventing mold and maintaining comfort. Homeowners can easily tackle air sealing projects themselves. The roof is the first line of defense against water damage. Controlled ventilation is necessary for modern energy-efficient homes. Identifying and addressing energy leaks can significantly improve comfort. A holistic approach to home performance leads to better outcomes. Humidity is often misunderstood as the main culprit in home issues. Controlled ventilation is crucial for managing indoor air quality. Building codes can create unintended consequences in home performance. Air tightness can improve energy efficiency but may introduce new problems. Consumer demand drives builders to adopt new practices and materials. The roofing industry lacks regulation, leading to varied quality. Educating consumers is essential for improving construction standards. Collaboration among contractors can elevate industry practices. Innovative products can address long-standing issues in construction. Continuous learning is vital for adapting to new building challenges.

All questions tend to fall under one of the Five Main Health Pillars;NutritionSleepMindsetExercise/MovementBreath WorkWe answer these question based upon over 17 years of clinical experience, and what we learn from the vast array of collaborators we work alongside and learn from every day. We don't see people in the same field as competitors, we see them as potential collaborators. It's much more rewarding, interesting, and infinitely much more fun when you approach your life seeing the abundance of opportunities out there, rather than desperately trying to cling to your own small bit of territory and see those around you as a threat. How did I build my way to a 2:58 marathon at age 42 with no injuries? A big part of it was strength training. If you don't want to be one of the 50-80% of runners who gets injured this year, proper strength training can help hedge your bets. While there's no way to 100% guarantee that you'll be one of the lucky healthy runners, strengthening your body for running can make a big difference. Today, I'm introducing you to my strength coach, Ryan McMullen. Welcome to the Planted Runner. I'm Coach Claire Bartholic and my mission is to help you improve your running, your mindset, and your life with science-backed training and plant-based nutrition. In this conversation, Ryan and I will go over: Exactly how much and what kind of strength training helps runners best Whether we should lift heavy or light or both And why and how you should mix up the ratio of strength training to running in different seasons I also ask Ryan what it's like to train me and I promise you I didn't edit his answer at all! Ryan has worked with hundreds of clients on nutrition, strength training, and more. He has owned a CrossFit gym in California since 2014 (but don't worry, he doesn't make me do CrossFit!). He coaches nutrition and strength with MetPro and helps clients navigate their goals from weight loss, body composition changes, training programs, and increasing performance across a wide range of different sports. Including runners like us. Now, a little warning that Ryan and I have a few differing opinions on certain aspects of training for endurance runners, which you'll hear. But that's actually pretty great since there are lots of ways to build muscle and my preferred way might not be the most effective for you . What if the seeds you plant today could transform the world tomorrow? In today's episode, Justin Jones-Fosu challenges leaders to leave their "home base," embrace curiosity, and cultivate inclusion to create real impact—at work and beyond. Justin Jones-Fosu, founder of Work. Meaningful., joins Erin to share powerful lessons about leadership, communication, and humanity. Drawing from his personal story and years of experience, Justin teaches leaders how to navigate challenging conversations while fostering a sense of belonging and purpose. Whether you're a seasoned leader or someone looking to improve team dynamics, this episode is packed with actionable insights and strategies to create more meaningful, inclusive workplaces. Here are the 5 main takeaways from Erin's conversation with Justin: 1. Leave Your Home Base Justin's mother taught him the importance of experiencing diverse perspectives. Leaders must step outside their comfort zones to understand and connect with others. 2. Plant Seeds That Last Leadership is a long-term investment. The actions you take and values you demonstrate today will impact people's lives, even years down the road. 3. Embrace the Power of Three Instead of surface-level conversations, ask three probing questions to deepen understanding and help others feel truly heard and valued. 4. Challenge Your Perspective Justin introduced the "Circles of Grace Challenge," encouraging leaders to intentionally engage with ideas and people they might not align with to build empathy and broaden their worldview. 5. Lead with Curiosity, Not Conclusions Avoid assumptions during difficult conversations. Approach with curiosity by asking questions and truly listening to uncover different perspectives. Conclusion Justin's insights remind us that meaningful leadership goes beyond results—it's about cultivating relationships, broadening perspectives, and creating a lasting impact. By stepping outside our comfort zones and practicing deep listening, leaders can foster teams where everyone feels seen, valued, and empowered to contribute their best. Are there any effective and harmless methods of getting rid of any insects? Unfortunately, the chemical pesticides sold in stores are way too toxic and harmful to be used anywhere near your home, family, or pets. If these chemicals can kill insects, surely they cannot be good for you! That's why it's better to use something natural and safe. TIMESTAMPS: Cockroaches 1:01 Ticks 1:57 Garden pests 3:37 Spiders 5:04 Ants 5:51 Dust mites 6:36 Weevils 7:56 #bugs #cockroaches #spiders Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/... SUMMARY: If you want to get rid of these pests, there are many products you can get from the store, but most of them are usually highly toxic. This can be especially dangerous if you have small kids or pets. Ticks can spread terrible diseases such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Colorado tick fever, ehrlichiosis, and tularemia. Some of these conditions can be fatal. One of the ways to get rid of garden pests is to create a special repellent with the use of tobacco. This product is especially effective if you need to scare away worms, aphids, and caterpillars. This natural repellent won't kill spiders, but it will keep them away because they don't like strong smells. Ants absolutely hate the smell of cinnamon. That's why you should put cinnamon powder in places where you think the ants are entering. For more effective results, you can add some essential oil to the cinnamon powder. These things are so tiny that you can't even see them with the naked eye. But unfortunately, if you don't see them, it doesn't mean they're not around. They live in household dust, prefer warmer places, and their favorite food is skin flakes. Weevils prefer grains and seeds but can also appear in flour or even pancake mix. The larvae of these bugs live and develop inside your food supplies. And you don't even suspect anything until one month after their birth when they suddenly appear in your food. Two years after it first aired, I'm bringing back one of my favorite episodes that shows how to keep content relevant and impactful long-term.Why? Because this episode has helped countless listeners unlock endless content ideas. It's also a great example of how a well-built episode can keep working for you—without constantly reinventing the wheel. In this re-release, I've kept the original calls to action so you can see firsthand how much value this episode still holds, even with those dated pieces. The rest? 100% evergreen.Marketing “gurus” love to give the same type of advice online. On social media sites like TikTok, one of the more prolific pieces of advice is looking up questions asked using a tool like AnswerThePublic. That can be great for brainstorming or refining content ideas or getting clarity on keywords. But there are two places where you can truly find a never-ending stream of quality content ideas. In this episode, I reveal what my two favorite ways to find content ideas and how I use them to generate content that speaks to my ideal clients.3:39 – My #1 favorite way to get content ideas6:31 – Another way this benefits you as a long-time service provider10:14 – My second favorite way to get content ideas12:23 – The very specific kind of podcast Uncommonly More produces14:55 – Examples of how I've applied this second technique to this podcastMentioned In The Two Most Effective Ways to Generate Content IdeasThe Podcast NewsroomEP 578: The Power of an Audio Sales PageLearn more about Podcast Production ServicesLearn more about Podcast Strategy IntensivesRate and Review the podcastPodcast Housekeeping Series:“How to Craft the Perfect Podcast Introduction”“How to Craft the Perfect Podcast Outro Call to Action”“How to Craft the Perfect Podcast Description and Cover Art”“How to Craft the Perfect Podcast Episode”Send us a textSupport the show

As John Maxwell shares in this episode, “The most effective way to grow an organization is to grow the people in it.” But how can you do that in your organization and with your people? John answers that question in today's lesson by giving 7 different practices of growing people so that you can begin developing those around you. After his lesson, Mark Cole and Chris Goede discuss those practices and provide you with practical ways that you can integrate them into your life and leadership. Key takeaways: There are no limits to an organization if we put no limits on our people. It's impossible to grow people in the organization if the growth is always for someone else. It always starts with me. Great leaders listen, learn, then lead. Our BONUS resource for this episode is the Effective Ways to Grow Your People Worksheet, which includes fill-in-the-blank notes from John's teaching. In this episode of "Compared To Who?" Heather Creekmore challenges the common belief that changing our bodies is the solution to body image issues. She discusses the harmful impact of diets and exercise on individuals' well-being and tackles the cultural misconception that achieving a certain body size will lead to freedom from body image struggles. Heather emphasizes that people of all sizes experience body image issues and that placing hope in diet and exercise often leads to disappointment, psychological, emotional, spiritual, and physical detriment. She warns against diet culture's subtle influence, warping Scripture to manipulate individuals into believing that their worth is determined by their body size and equating weight loss with spiritual success. Summary Tim and Liz Coolis Jenkins discuss her book, Nice Churchy Patriarchy: Reclaiming Women's Humanity from Evangelicalism, and her journey unpacking the toxic aspects of conservative evangelicalism. She explores the concept of patriarchy and how it manifests in imbalanced power dynamics and restricts women's agency. Takeaways Patriarchy is any structure or system that involves imbalanced power between genders, particularly men and women. Patriarchy restricts women's agency and discourages them from embracing their full humanity. The concept of patriarchy is often disguised as complementarianism in conservative evangelical contexts. The biblical mandates used to justify patriarchal norms are often based on American cultural norms rather than biblical principles. Mainline churches, despite their traditional appearance, often have more progressive and inclusive theology compared to white evangelical churches. Patriarchy is deeply ingrained in both the church and broader society, but it is not impossible to dismantle. Valuing characteristics traditionally associated with femininity, such as empathy and collaboration, is essential for building more inclusive and equitable spaces. Honest conversations, diverse perspectives, and a reevaluation of traditional interpretations of scripture are necessary for challenging and changing patriarchal systems. The intersection of patriarchy and the church requires a critical examination of leadership structures and a commitment to empowering women and other marginalized groups.
