Rajesh a.k.a BabaVelo has raced all around the world as an amateur over the last 25 years or so. He is very passionate about cycling and is in a privileged position of being able to travel and participate in some of the best cycling events around the world. That meant he took part in 100s of races all around the world over the years. That experience gives him a perspective that not many of us have. He is outspoken. He wears his heart on his sleeve and shares his opinion without any filters. I think, that makes it all the more valuable. To set the context for this episode, a couple of days before we sat down for this chat, he withdrew from a race we travelled to take part in because of safety concerns. He did not want to risk racing in the dark on roads with traffic. We shared constructive feedback to the organizers who were very receptive for the same. But, I thought that this is a topic all of us need to think more about. In that context, we sat down to discuss about road racing in India and safety aspects we need to take care of when it comes to racing here since we don't have closed roads. Please note that the intent is not to knock on any one race or any one organizer but to discuss openly what can be done to make racing in general safer for everyone. I hope it comes across as such and that it helps all of us think more seriously about this topic. 0:00:00 Intro0:10:15 Safety of an event0:12:35 Road closures, BBCh0:17:15 Tour of Thekkady0:19:30 CFI and closed roads0:21:40 What can be done to make events safer within the constraints of India0:25:00 Shayadhri Classic and Tour of Nilgiris formats0:22:00 Circuit Races, Gravel events 0:30:40 Mountain biking as a safer option for kids0:31:40 ITTs don't have to be 40k 0:32:50 Gravel is not bad roads0:33:50 Organizers and safety standards0:35:00 Tour of Thekkady, Safety concerns, racing in the dark, neutral zones0:43:15 Talking of categories 0:46:00 Closing About the PodcastThe working athlete podcast is a podcast with and for working athletes from all walks of life and various sports. This week's guest is Rajesh Nair, founder of EnCube Labs, NH Board of Education member (district 5), and former professor of practice, innovation and entrepreneurship at the Asia School of Business in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The lively discussion includes how Raj teaches the next generation of leaders to grow as entrepreneurs, as well as educational challenges that students are facing today.
The age-old debate on whether entrepreneurs are born or made has ignited discussions and research across academic, entrepreneurial, and parenting spheres. Rajesh Nair's extensive work in underserved communities offers illuminating insights into this question. It suggests that the fundamental traits of innovators and entrepreneurs are cultivable in children and youth nationwide, a discussion of profound importance to educators, administrators, and parents. Innovators and entrepreneurs, catalysts of problem-solving and wealth creation, are pivotal in transforming communities and nations. However, the current education system, focused on producing uniform graduates, is ill-equipped to nurture future change-makers. Educators wield immense influence in shaping the next generation of entrepreneurs. They possess the power to craft environments that foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The integration of entrepreneurial education into the curriculum holds transformative potential. Concurrently, school and district administrators can bolster entrepreneurial endeavors by allocating resources, fostering local business partnerships, and endorsing extracurricular programs championing innovation. Parents, too, play a pivotal role in instilling entrepreneurial qualities in their children. By nurturing their interests, offering opportunities for exploration, and providing emotional support, parents can set their children on a path toward careers in innovation and entrepreneurship. In summary, Rajesh Nair's research and outreach underscore that while some may naturally exhibit entrepreneurial traits, these qualities can be developed and nurtured in children and youth. Recognizing and implementing strategies to cultivate these essential traits empowers the next generation of creative and innovative thinkers and doers. Educators, administrators, and parents all have crucial roles to play in this transformative journey.

Demand for transportation fuels has been picking up in Asia, as higher vaccination rates and improved mobility push regional economies to open up to near pre-pandemic levels. Global oil supplies, however, are not keeping pace with this recovering demand. China's move to inject more fuel supplies into the Asian market by way of a supplementary second round of oil products export quotas in early June is unlikely to help improve regional demand-supply balances. Moreover, China's oil product exports in 2022 are likely to fall from 2021 levels as Beijing aims to minimize outflows to meet its net-zero target. Refining margins for clean transportation fuels like gasoil, jet/kerosene and gasoline skyrocketed to historical highs earlier this month. Even as cracks have inched lower since, expectations are these valuations will stay elevated in the foreseeable future. In this podcast, S&P Global Commodity Insights' Rajesh Nair, Su Yeen Cheong, Oceana Zhou and Zhuwei Wang shed light on the current situation and discuss the scenarios that are likely to play out in the Asian clean fuels markets in the near to medium term.

The global fuel oil market is currently going through a turmoil on account of the lower Russian oil flowing into the marine fuel oil pool and a fair share of blending components being used to produce higher margin transportation fuels. Tightening sanctions on Russian oil has seen newer trade flows emerge. As Asian markets gear up for peak summer demand, trade flows are poised to undergo further changes. The recent fuel contamination issue at Singapore has further exacerbated product availability concerns. In this podcast, S&P Global Commodity Insights' Rajesh Nair, Atsuko Kawasaki and Zhuwei Wang talk about the outlook for the Asian fuel oil market.
Scrubber's uptick in the marine sector amid a favorable Hi-5 spread along with demand for high sulfur fuel oil for power consumption in Asia is helping HSFO retain its sheen. In Singapore, the world's largest bunkering port, January-July HSFO sales jumped 33.7% on the year, while many other ports in Asia such as India and Sri Lanka are seeing a marked rise in HSFO inquiries. In the power sector, high global gas and LNG prices have incentivized switching of gas to oil, where applicable. S&P Global Platts' Dr. Kang Wu, head of global demand and Asia Analytics, and Rajesh Nair, managing editor for Asia residual fuels, discuss high sulfur fuels oils and their evolving role in the market with Surabhi Sahu, senior editor for petroleum news.
Gareth chats with Rajesh Nair, who has worked at both the Asia School of Business and MIT and is the founder of EnCube Labs, about his work in developing entrepreneurial mindsets and skills in young people around the world.

China's long-awaited value-added-tax rebate on fuel oil paved the way for domestic producers to supply bunker fuel to ships plying international routes at Chinese ports.
