The Osceola County Sheriff's Office is under fire following the controversial sharing of a photo believed to depict the lifeless body of 13-year-old Madeline Soto on social media. The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about accountability and transparency within the law enforcement agency. Sheriff Marcos Lopez ignited the controversy when he allegedly posted the disturbing image on his personal Instagram page, just hours after Soto's body was discovered in a rural area outside St. Cloud. While Lopez claimed the post was accidental, the public condemnation was swift, with many questioning the appropriateness and ethics of sharing such a graphic image. In a separate incident, the Sheriff's executive director, Nirva Rodriguez, added fuel to the fire by posting a selfie with suspect Stephan Sterns during a perp walk, accompanied by a caption that drew further criticism. These actions directly violate the Sheriff's own social media policy, which explicitly prohibits the dissemination of information from ongoing criminal investigations, including photographs, as well as making statements about the guilt or innocence of any suspect. Law enforcement expert Randy Nelson expressed dismay at the violations, emphasizing the importance of adhering to established policies and procedures. "It makes you look at the leadership. I mean, that's, that's all one can do. And once again, it goes back to transparency and accountability," Nelson remarked, reflecting the broader concerns regarding the conduct of the Sheriff's Office. Compounding the controversy is the revelation that Osceola County Sheriff's Office was not the lead agency investigating Soto's death, raising questions about why the graphic photo was in Sheriff Lopez's possession and who took it. Despite inquiries, the Sheriff's Office has remained tight-lipped on these matters, fueling further speculation and frustration. While State Attorney Andrew Bain expressed deep concern over the careless public release of the photos, he indicated that their evidentiary impact on the case may be limited for now. However, defense attorney Roger Weeden highlighted the potential ramifications of such unprofessional conduct, particularly in the context of a trial where juror perceptions could be influenced by the actions of law enforcement. As investigations into the matter unfold, the community demands answers and accountability from the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, underscoring the need for greater transparency and adherence to established protocols in handling sensitive information and evidence. Randy Nelson, founder of Pixar University It's time to wrap up a conversation where we were learning so much from our guest that we couldn't fit it all into one episode. So if you haven't heard our last episode, “How can you create a culture of curiosity? - Part 1,” we really recommend going back to that one first.  But just in case, here's a review–we recently caught up with Randy Nelson, founder of Pixar University. He walked us through his early days as a juggler, meeting and getting hired by Steve Jobs, seeing what Pixar looked for in a new hire, and eventually being tasked with standing up an educational arm within Pixar that could help the company preserve its alchemic culture, even as it continued to grow. So today, we'll keep digging into the question…  HOW CAN YOU CREATE A CULTURE OF CURIOSITY? It's part 2 of our conversation with Randy Nelson, on this episode of Lead With a Question. Guest Bio: Randy Nelson has spent his career working with organizations to make the best use of the people, wisdom and skills they already have, want to attract and need to develop. He has helped build amplifiers out of groups, using appropriate and dynamic mixtures of training and education, traditional skills and innovative technology, flexible programs and high standards. In addition to increased productivity and effectiveness, hijinks and shenanigans have sometimes resulted. Randy Nelson, founder of Pixar University Some guests are harder to describe than others. Take today's invitee, for example. How should we summarize his CV?  A teacher. A trainer. A recruiter? A coach? How about a juggler, or an actor? An artist. A calligrapher. What about a filmmaker, programmer, or systems analyst? The fact is that all these labels, and more, apply. With such diversity of interest, it might not surprise you that our guest would eventually end up working at places like Apple and Pixar–places known for incubating great ideas, mold-breaking design, and play. So...  How can you create a culture of curiosity? That's the question we'll consider today with Randy Nelson, in part 1 of a special 2-part episode of Lead With a Question. Guest Bio: Randy Nelson has spent his career working with organizations to make the best use of the people, wisdom and skills they already have, want to attract and need to develop.
