Friday March 3rd, Pamela Turner waits for her stepson to get off the school bus. When Justin Turner doesn't, the stepmom calls the school. Staff tells her that Justin was marked absent that day. The sheriff's office is called and deputies come to the Turner home. 5-year-old Justin Turner has been missing for hours. The search for Justin Turner includes multiple agencies and volunteers from the area. For two days WCBD News video cameras follow the searches. Video show volunteers side-by-side with police and sheriff's deputies, walking nearly shoulder to shoulder through fields, checking under back decks and sheds. The channel 2 camerman is filming as Victor Turner goes into a camper on their property, and quickly comes back out saying "my son's in there." The body of Justin Turner is found hidden inside a cabinet in the pickup truck camper, parked close to the family home. An autopsy and forensic analysis is done on the 5-year-old, Investigators determine that the boy had been placed inside the camper shortly after his strangulation death. A forensic pathologist report indicates the boy died a short time after eating his last meal. The Berkeley County Sheriff at the time, M.C. Cannon says accidental death is ruled out. The coroner's autopsy report reveals the boy was sexually assaulted with some kind of cylindrical object and strangled to death. The case is officially ruled a homicide. Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
A chilling twist in a decades-old cold case has shocked the community, as a father who was once captured on film discovering his 5-year-old son's lifeless body is now facing murder charges. Victor Turner and his wife, Megan Turner, were arrested in Cross Hill by the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office in connection to the death of Justin Turner. In an emotional press conference, Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis revealed that Victor Turner stands accused of strangling his own son in the early hours of March 3, 1989. On that fateful day, deputies responded to the Turner family's residence in Moncks Corner after Victor and Megan Turner reported not seeing Justin leaving for or returning from school. According to a statement from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office in 2019, Justin had intended to catch the school bus with a neighbor but never made it onto the bus that morning. Megan Turner was in the shower at the time and did not accompany him outside. The ensuing search for Justin lasted two agonizing days and concluded when Victor Turner made a grim discovery inside the family's camper, parked outside their home. Archival news footage from the search captured the heart-wrenching moment when Victor, peering into the camper, broke into tears, and exclaimed, "My son's in there." However, an arrest warrant, as reported by Charleston's WCSC, alleges a disturbing twist. Instead of immediately checking for signs of life, Victor Turner backed out of the camper. Investigators have accused the couple of having precise knowledge of where Justin's body was, describing their behavior during the search as "deliberate" and "obvious." Sheriff Lewis added that the crime scene appeared to have been staged when deputies first arrived. Megan Turner, known as Pamela Turner at the time, had previously been arrested in connection to Justin's disappearance. However, her case was dismissed without prejudice due to a lack of evidence. Following this, she changed her name, and the Turners relocated to an undisclosed location, effectively disappearing from the radar. Decades passed before local cold case investigators decided to re-examine the tragic case in April 2021. Utilizing cutting-edge forensic technology and pursuing new leads, they uncovered crucial evidence shedding light on Justin's fate. Forensic analysis and autopsy results revealed that Justin's body had been placed inside the Turners' camper shortly after his death. Furthermore, a ligature discovered at their home matched the wounds around Justin's neck, as reported by WCSC. The public defenders' office in Berkeley County and the attorneys representing the Turners have not yet responded to requests for comments. This shocking development in a long-dormant case has sent shockwaves through the community, reopening old wounds and raising new questions about what truly transpired on that tragic day in 1989. As the legal proceedings unfold, many await justice for Justin Turner and answers to the mysteries that have haunted this case for decades. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? www.dcpofficial.com/pamelaturner On May 13th, 2019, 44 year old Pamela Turner was shot and killed by Baytown Police Officer Juan Delacruz while she was outside her apartment complex. Turner, who suffered from Schizophrenia, had had previous interactions with the officer we hear about the families journey for justice as they await the court date for Officer Delacruz WARNING Chime #1 31:06 (skip ahead 3 min 40 seconds) Chelsie: In the video, you can see that someone is recording of course. The officer pulls up and literally hops out of his car, and walks straight up to her, very aggressive like. It was not a welcoming situation, he was hostile already as if he had gotten a call, So he walked up to her and there was someone who was out there who actually said they watched him drive and see her and hurry up and turn the car and go to her and then hop out. And then he immediately tries to arrest her without announcing himself, any probable cause, anything like that. And of course, my mom, just like any other person would've done, just like I would've done resist, and it's like, hey, what's going on here? Why are you harassing me? What did I do? I hear my mom screaming. Why, why, why, why so many times, but not one response from him. And then, she moves and he tries to tase her, he did tase her. And I see her go down to the ground, and I see him standing on top of her. First of all, he kneeled in her chest and then he stood up, and then I immediately see him back away and pull out his gun. And that's when you just hear shots ring out. Probably worse 40 seconds of my life. All of that happened within a very short amount of time. Antoinette: She actually was sitting up looking at him- Chelsie : She looked at him. Antoinette: You can't see it clear, but you can see the figure she was actually sitting up. And when she went backwards, I told Chelsie, she was shot in her eye. I felt it. Chelsie : You could see how her head snapped back on the video- Antoinette: And Chelsie said, "What make you think that?" I say," just look the way she falls." And she actually was shot under the eye. But I just felt it's like a pain. And I said she was shot in her eye. I guess we were so close that just like, I felt everything she went through. And it just makes me angry. Chelsie : He shattered the left side of her face right here. Antoinette: They had to- Chelsie : They had to reconstruct her face. Antoinette : But that wasn't what killed her. Chelsie : Nope. She felt that. Antoinette: The second shot was not the shot that killed her, the third shot is the shot that ricocheted and hit her organs and killed her. Family of woman killed by Baytown officer in 2019 files federal civil rights lawsuit. -- Nearly two years after Pamela Turner was killed by a Baytown Police officer, her family is filing a federal lawsuit against the city and Juan Delacruz, the officer who pulled the trigger in 2019. In video that has since gone viral, Officer Delacruz is seen standing over Turner after a struggle, firing several rounds "He could have said 'Freeze. Stop.' Anything. He shot five times at point blank range. Five times at point blank range. Putting three bullets in the body of this unarmed Black woman," attorney Benjamin Crump said. Crump, alongside his co-counsel, the Houston NAACP and Turner's family, announced a federal civil rights lawsuit Thursday. "It's very clear, as a former police officer, that this shooting was unlawful from the beginning," attorney Devin Jacobs said. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/Teddy-G/support

A note from Talking Taiwan host Felicia Lin: Stefanie Davis and Patrick Springer are the founders of the Black Lives Solidarity Global Initiative, which organized a rally in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement on June 13th in Taipei’s 228 Peace Park. I spoke to Stefanie and Patrick about their experiences living as people of color in Taiwan and the U.S., the activities planned for the rally and their personal views of Black Lives Matter. Here’s a description of the Black Lives Solidarity Global Initiative rally from their Facebook event page: We cannot sit around as the stories of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Iyanna Dior, Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown Jr., Pamela Turner, Atatiana Jefferson, and countless others become common occurrences- background noise to the daily news, their lives summarized as sound bites between the weather and sports updates. We cannot sit idly by and watch as police brutality against innocent black and brown bodies continues to go unchecked around the world. It is time for us to take a stand and make our voices known that we demand action against racism both abroad and at home. That injustice against one of us, is an injustice to all. Join us in a legal and peaceful rally Saturday, June 13th, at 228 Peace Memorial Park in Taipei as we come together to lend our support and our voices to those around the world fighting for equality and for others right to simply breathe. Here’s a little preview of what we talked about in this podcast episode: What brought Stefanie and Patrick to Taiwan and how long they have been here The racism that they have experienced in Taiwan and how it compares to what they’ve experienced in the U.S. How they talk to their students about race and nationality Patrick’s bar Arts & Crafts (in Taichung) How the Black Lives Solidarity Global Initiative (BLSGI) came about The events and activities planned at the June 13 BLSGI rally The Taipei Is Listening Forum How the BLSGI rally has put Taiwan on the map as one of the countries that has had a rally about the injustices happening to Black people in the U.S. The feedback they’ve received about the rally What Stefanie and Patrick hope that people take away from the experience of being at the rally or what they learned at the rally Common stereotypes that people have about Black people Facts and statistics that demonstrate some of the discrimination that Blacks in the U.S. experience The shooting of Atatiana Jefferson and arrest of Sandra Bland Where the funds raised at the rally went Patrick and Stefanie’s personal experiences with Black Lives Matter What advice Stefanie or Patrick have for non-Black people who want to understand the Black experience or who want to be allies What Black Lives Matter means to Stefanie and Patrick Facts and statistics based on US data and research that were shared at the BLSGI rally: More than 1/2 of young Black Americans know someone, including themselves, who has been harassed by the police. Black students are 3 times more likely to be suspended than white students for similar infractions. Black drivers are 30% more likely than white drivers to be pulled over by the police. For every $100 earned by white families -> Black families earn $57.30. Blacks Americans make up 13% of the nation's population. Blacks Americans make 40% of prison populations. The Rev. Al Sharpton on Tuesday gave his eulogy in Houston at the funeral service for George Floyd, and he joins Morning Joe to reflect on the moment and to discuss the moment when he asked asks the families of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Botham Jean, Pamela Turner, Michael Brown, and Ahmaud Arbery to stand.
I want to take a moment to speak directly to all of you about recent events. Eric Garner. Michael Brown. Trayvon Martin. Freddie Gray. Janet Wilson. Pamela Turner. Christopher Whitfield. Breonna Taylor. Ahmaud Arbery. George Floyd. Their deaths alongside the deaths of countless others at the hands of the police and the hands of fearful White people are tragic, intolerable, and remembered. These black lives matter. ALL black lives matter. These black experiences matter. ALL black experiences matter. These black voices matter. ALL Black voices matter. These black stories matter. ALL black stories matter. As I continue to record and produce episodes with people from all across our country writing stories for all different children, I want to reiterate my commitment to using this platform to lift marginalized voices and their stories. This work is ongoing, though it is also of the moment, and I will continue to communicate my value of these stories and these voices through the interviews I conduct and share in the weeks and months and years to come, bringing you voices speaking their truths, speaking for justice and visibility, sharing stories that see and lift up our children, especially those who so seldom are seen and lifted up. I encourage you to listen again to voices you’ve heard on this show. Voices like Cheryl and Wade Hudson and their book WE RISE, WE RESIST, WE RAISE OUR VOICES. Voices like ANGELA JOY and her book BLACK IS A RAINBOW COLOR. Voices like Breanna J. McDaniel and her book HANDS UP! Voices like TONY MEDINA and his graphic novel I AM ALPHONSO JONES. And voices like MAHOGANY BROWNE and her book WOKE: A YOUNG POET’S GUIDE TO JUSTICE. These and other books are here and have been here for you and for readers. There are other exceptional books, for more than I could possibly cover through interviews on this show, but I will continue to bring forward and lift up those books that are changing our world by seeing our kids and affirming their beauty and strength and world-changing presence. For now and for always, in solidarity.
This is the end of what will be the longest week for many, though this is really what our black communities have faced for years on-end. Across the country, there are uprisings happening in the name of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Michael Lorenzo Dean, Eric Reason, Pamela Turner and so many others. As former President Obama explained in his Medium post, the call-out is explicit for the “reform of police practices and the broader criminal justice system in the United States.” The rate at which black Americans are killed by police is more than twice as high as the rate for white Americans. I do not claim to know how painful it must be for our black communities after decades of our nation watching black people die. And, so, at the end of this week, this country is not where it needs to be, but it’s clear that masses of people are demanding a solution. In this podcast, we are going to talk about the responsibility of the Latino community in this because it’s huge. We will also be discussing lootings, shootings, how they are affecting the Chicago's most vulnerable communities and importantly, how people are banding together, protecting their small businesses and homes. I spoke with someone who’s been documenting on the ground and who has worked with small businesses in our Chicago Latino neighborhoods, to get his observations: Mateo Zapata. It’s important to remember that this is not happening in a vacuum, Chicago has historically been one of the most segregated cities in the country - this which was completely engineered by the city by enabling redlining, now-outlawed lending practices that kept minorities out of certain areas, and keeping investment out of black neighborhoods. The most hurt by this were Blacks and Latinos, specifically Mexicans. To date, the segregation is still evident. Note: This conversation has sensitive material.

The Assassination of Pamela Turner- Police Brutality Podcast #25 Hosts: Unity Love & Smuv E
In this episode, we review the Emanuel documentary, which covers the history of the black church in Charleston leading up to the church shooting in 2015 by Dylan Roof that killed nine congregants, including the pastor. The movie's primary emphasis is on the expressions of forgiveness by family members toward Dylan Roof, less than 48 hours after he committed that heinous act. Co-hosts Mark Bauer and Branden Polk explore the idea of forgiveness and who it is for, and why forgiveness doesn't need to be preceded by repentance for it to be impactful, right and meaningful. We also dovetail into discussions about the contrast between how white offenders are handled by police during arrests, versus how we commonly see black subjects taken into custody. A recent police shooting of Pamela Turner in Baytown, Texas that was caught on camera illustrates this point. We also reflect on some points that were raised in a post-screening discussion that Branden and Mark facilitated following a viewing of the film, during which Branden asked attendees for three things black people wished white people would understand about the racial justice conversation, and three things white people wished black people would understand about their perspective on the racial justice conversation. On today’s episode of The Breakdown, Shaun digs into the horrible police shooting that happened earlier this week in Baytown, Texas. He lays out an important action step in order to press for justice in this case and then leaves us with a heartwarming story to end the difficult week on a note of hope.
BAYTOWN, Texas – A police officer shot and killed a woman at a Houston-area apartment complex after she hit him with his Taser during a struggle, shocking him, police said. In a video recorded by a witness and posted on social media, the officer can be seen standing over Pamela Turner and reaching down to try to grab her arms. Turner, who is lying on the ground outside the apartments in Baytown, yells "I'm pregnant." Moments later, something flashes as she reaches her arm out toward the officer. Suddenly, the officer pulls back, raises up from the ground and fires five gunshots. Police Lt. Steve Dorris said Tuesday that the officer shot at Turner after she hit him in the groin with the Taser. Turner did not fire the stun gun but it shocked the officer when it struck him, Dorris said. The lieutenant said police have since learned from the medical examiner's office in Harris County that Turner, who was 44 and black, was not pregnant. She was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. A spokeswoman with the medical examiner's office declined to comment. The officer, who police have not identified by name, has been placed on paid administrative leave, Dorris said. The department is reviewing whether the shooting was in line with its policy on the use of deadly force, he said. Before the shooting, the officer, who is Hispanic and an 11-year veteran of the police force, was patrolling the apartment complex and tried to arrest Turner because he knew she had outstanding warrants, Dorris said. The two had previous dealings, but Dorris did not provide further details about the interactions or Turner's warrants. A pharmacy student prepares syringes during a free measles vaccination clinic. Associated Press But if those rates were to drop by just 10% from what they are now, it'd be a whole different ball game: suddenly, the decrease in overall immunity would mean DeSoto would be presented with almost 800 new cases of measles (almost 90 times as many illnesses). That's a pretty alarming disparity, but the sad truth is that's the kind of thing we're up against in 2019 in the US — a year which has already eclipsed the entirety of 2018's measles infections (and it did so just three months into the year). Other regions in Florida fare even more poorly under pressure. In the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area, 111 measles cases could result, based on the current vaccination rates. If those rates slip by 10% though, a stunning 54,476 people could be struck by the disease. "And the concern there, of course, is when you have those number of cases, how long will it take before it exhausts the public health system?" Liller asked the Orlando Sentinel. Read more: Tell-tale signs you or someone you know might have the measles FRED isn't limited to Florida alone, however. The simulator can actually project the spread of measles epidemics across any state in the US, based on generalised 80% vs 95% vaccination rate calculations. "In most cases, the difference between the 80% coverage scenario and the 95% coverage scenario is quite dramatic," the FRED team explains. "This shows the importance of a high vaccination rate in providing protection for the entire community." Have a go here and watch the results unfold yourself. This is what nonchalance — let alone dangerously ill-informed, anti-vax views— about infectious diseases could one day bring about in the places we live. Even the researchers who developed the simulator are taken aback.

A police officer outside Houston fatally shot a woman during a scuffle over a Taser at an apartment complex late Monday, authorities said. The incident was captured on social media and circulated overnight, CBS Houston affiliate KHOU-TV reported. In the video, the woman can be heard shouting "I'm pregnant" multiple times before she is shot. Baytown Police Lt. Steve Dorris on Tuesday afternoon identified the woman as Pamela Turner and said his department has confirmed Turner was not pregnant. However I thhink we should do our own investigation on that fact. He didn't immediately respond to questions from CBS News over whether the determination was made through an autopsy. However, family members told KHOU that Turner was not pregnant. Turner's niece told the station the woman had mental health issues and had had prior run-ins with Baytown police. Dorris earlier said an officer on patrol saw the 45-year-old Turner, whom the officer had encountered before. He knew the woman had outstanding warrants, so he approached her to arrest her. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bj-murphy9/support
