Uma de suas canções, "Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music?" --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pocast-podcast/message

One of the things that stood out to me when I first discovered Glenn Kaiser was that he put his money where his mouth was. The Resurrection Band not only sang about real-life struggles, like poverty, divorce, and racism, but they lived their lives by putting their thoughts into action. Glenn and his wife Wendi started Jesus People USA in Chicago to take God's love to the streets in a real and practical way. And something about that rang true with me. Plus, Rez really rocked, turning early Christian music on its ear. Today I'm chatting with Glenn Kaiser, and we're going to learn a little more about living a life that matches what you say you believe. Glenn Kaiser: Website, Music, Facebook, and Twitter. We talked about the beginnings of American Christian Rock, with The Resurrection Band, and today we get into a Christian Rock group that continued that humble hippie-Christian approach, but decades later, in the 2000s, in a completely different context. Between the 70s and the 00s, the Christian music industry grew from a few psychedelic groups composed of former hippies to a fully fledged money making machine in the Reagan era. In the 80s, they tapped into the hair/glam metal trend with groups like Stryker and Petra--and by the 90s, every other youth pastor in America was taking their shot at being the next big thing in the conservative Christian music market. They even had their own greatest hits compilation to compete with "NOW that's what I call music" called "WOW". Christian families finally had their OWN music, and some of them started limiting what their children could listen to, opting out of "secular" (non-Christian) music altogether. This created a problem for young music loving Christians. They were only allowed to participate in music if it was "Christian" and "Christian" music... was pretty corny. It was always extremely apparent that the Christian messaging took precedence over interesting song structure or good songwriting. In the mid 90s, all Christian music sounded like worship tunes you would hear at the hip, new Evangelical Church down the road. Cut to somewhere in the 2000s. Emo, Screamo, Angst, 9/11... Teenagers were obviously dealing with a lot of stuff at the time and the sappy stuff just wasn't cutting it for Christian youth and they were sick of being pandered to. So, they started screaming with the rest of their friends. And pretty soon, there were so many bands from Christian backgrounds screaming and making metal and other interesting genres that the entire Christian music industry changed. Many of these bands saw the writing on the wall in how commercialized God had become and like JC in the old bible story, they started flippin tables. mewithoutYou is perhaps the greatest example of this shift in how bands expressed their spiritual beliefs. It's spacey, it's weird, there's yelling slam poetry, and it's not always sunshine and rainbows when they're talking about Christianity. They're getting into the nitty gritty... Today, Brad, Dave, and Kevin (Brad's brother) are joined by Jonah Wilson from the amazing new band that you should immediately check out, Jazzcore Friction!!! What is Christian Rock? Where did it come from? Was it always so worship-y? Today on a very special episode of The Album Concept Hour, we're going to be answering all of those questions for you. Brad has teased his background in the Christian music industry before and with the help of his close friend and 2nd/3rd mother, Kathy Taylor from the Give Me 1 Reason podcast, they are going to compare notes on their experiences with the Christian music industry they each grew up with... And to get into that properly, we need to start at the beginning... The first Christian Rock band to stand shoulder to shoulder with other Classic Rock artists of the time... Rez Band (or Resurrection Band). With reformed hippie, Glenn Kaiser and Wendi, his wife with the outstanding voice, at the front as a Christian power couple, along with great musicians backing them in Stu Heiss, Roy Montroy, and John Herrin, they completely changed how Christians looked at music moving forward. They represented a shifting tide in American Christianity and were part of a new wave of hippie/Christian hybrids. Coming from the world of sex, drugs, and rock and roll, Glenn Kaiser was able to capture the spirit of rock, while infusing it with his newly found spiritual beliefs and turn it into great Rock along the way. Glenn Kaiser, co-founder, songwriter, lead singer and guitarist for legendary Jesus Rock band Resurrection (Rez) Band, talks about how the pioneer days of Christian rock music on Episode 3 of #ejesuspodcast. Rez Band was one of the early pioneers of Christian rock music. They began in 1972 as a part of a Christian traveling community called Jesus People USA that would set up Christian rock revivals in towns and cities all over the south and midwest United States. They released their first album in 1979 and continued playing Christian rock music through 16 albums and over 25 years. Known predominantly for their hard rock sound led by husband and wife duo Glenn and Wendi Kaiser, they also incorporated heartfelt ballads, gritty blues, and even some experimental electronic music. Rez toured all over the world, playing rock & roll and preaching the gospel; breaking down conventional prejudices against hard rock music in the traditional church. They helped to open the doors to countless musicians who can now express themselves and their relationship to God in all manner of musical styles. Co-hosted by ELECTRIC JESUS writer-director Chris White and Music Supervisor/CCM Historian John J. Thompson, and featuring composer Daniel Smith, Season 1 - Electric Jesus: The Music Behind the Movie explores the world of 1980s Christian rock music with an eye toward the creation of the film's unforgettable original songs and score, the power of nostalgia, Evangelical youth group culture, and the Christian rock songs and artists that appear in the movie, ELECTRIC JESUS. Formed in the Midwest in the early 70’s, Resurrection Band toured the world in a big, red school bus with “JESUS” painted on the side. They are called “the most influential band in Christian music history”, and even though I’ve listened to their music since the early 80’s, this is my first time chatting with Glenn Kaiser.
Glenn Kaiser came to saving faith in 1971 during the Jesus Movement, serves as a musician, jail/prison chaplain, pastor and blogger at Jesus People in Chicago's inner-city Uptown neighborhood. He and wife Wendi fronted Resurrection Band. Glenn now performs solo and with the Glenn Kaiser Band. His latest release, Swamp Gas Messiahs, is a collection of 18 prophetic challenges against the social injustice of this current culture.
Mike Stephen talks to Lucien Liz-Lapiorz of the Chicago DSA about a new interactive map that shows which landlords own what properties in Chicago, discusses lessons learned from the March primaries with City Bureau reporter Alex Arriaga, and discovers the Secret History of The Resurrection Band. And in the OTL Wrap Party segment, Mike and Producer Collin reflect on this week's show and discuss the power of using data to change society. The local pandemic tunez come from The Strangelets.
This week, we continue our discussion with Christian Rock legend, Glenn Kaiser, as he shares more from his testimony and what he thinks we can be doing better, as the Church. Plus, we'll thrown in a few more samples of Rez hits as well! If you'd like to catch up with what Glenn is doing, visit www.glennkaiser.com!
Glenn Kaiser, along with his wife, Wendi, headed up one of the most influential and foundational Christian Rock Bands for almost 30 years. Resurrection Band quickly became the bar against what all other Christian rock bans were measured. However, unlike some artists, it was never about the music or the fame. To them, it was all about the ministry of the Gospel of Christ. The week, we get into the mind of Glenn as he talks about the music of REZ and what it meant, as well as his own testimony of converting from drug-filled hippie lifestyle to Christianity, and how that wasn't an easy transition. Join us for part one of this two-part episode!

Bonnie and Karen bring out the ol' cassettes and talk about Amy Grant to Led Zeppelin. Show notes: Bonnie and Karen say hola to everyone. And unbeknownst to them, they have a blog--which they’ll post to any day now. Karen starts off with thanking the good people on Reddit. While not trying to solve the JonBenet Ramsey case, a lot of them are in communities our listeners might be interested in: Exchristianwoman Exchristian Atheism Bonnie rejects the nice things people are saying about the podcast on Reddit. Can’t have that devilish pride, ladies. Jesus takes all the glory. Bonnie begs Karen to one day tell her “bra story.” It will happen. Oh, it will happen. But not today. Bonnie’s “happy of the week” was discovering the song Ohio River by Love Jones. Glenn Kaiser has been a musician since the late '60s. In 1971, he joined the group that would later become Resurrection (Rez) Band. Glenn fronted the hard rock Rez Band for more than 25 years before setting out on his own to pursue other musical avenues. In 1999 he formed the blues rock trio Glenn Kaiser Band (GKB) with former Rez bassist Roy Montroy and drummer Ed Bialach. Glenn's solo career is centered around the blues, especially with handmade cigar box guitars and other "found object" instruments, but also with lapsteel, acoustic and electric guitars and harmonica. His extensive discography - 35 recordings to date - includes projects of rock 'n' roll, R&B, worship, American roots and, the thread through it all, blues. In 2012, Glenn and blues harmonica great Joe Filisko recorded their live concert at the final Cornerstone Festival (Glenn Kaiser and Joe Filisko Live) and continue to share the stage when schedules allow. His 2011 project Cardboard Box was inspired by the plight of Chicago's homeless and the symbolic use of found-object instruments like cigar box guitars as trash-to-treasure. Its proceeds continue to benefit a northside homeless shelter, CCO.On his most recent studio project of traditional blues, Long Way from My Home, the handmade cigar box and “diddley bow” guitars are even more prominent, and the back porch reminiscence strong. The recording is essentially one-man blues, though Joe Filisko features stealthily on four tracks with harmonica, and accurately represents what one will get when Glenn performs solo - subtly brilliant blues.
