Welcome back to Pizza Quest! In this episode, we welcome Brett McKay, the founder of the immensely popular website/newsletter/podcast, The Art of Manliness. For the past fifteen+ years Brett, along with his wife Kate, have been on their own quest to explore every aspect of what it means to be a man -- really, a human -- at this particular time in history. Their site has clearly struck a chord, as they have over a million followers (including listeners to their Art of Manliness (AOM) Podcast),where they cover everything from the practical (like "How to Shave Like Your Dad" and "How to Properly Tie your Tie"), to the metaphysical and philosophical (Aristotle is a huge influence on their work and journey, as are many other well-known historical thought leaders), and they have posted over 1,000 episodes (1059 as of this week's show on "The Science of Slowing Down Time"). Brett was kind enough to invite me onto his podcast and even kinder to reciprocate by coming onto Pizza Quest. There is a lot of kindred spiritedness here, as I think you will see and enjoy during this thoughtful conversation.Note: Brett also shares some tips on how he and Kate grew their following into a full-time livelihood; tips that will prove useful to any of you who are trying to grow your own media platforms and brands -- this is priceless advice!

But who are the real monsters here? 5.2 The Dying Breed by Tim Foley When the Doctor, Leela and K9 land on the Lupari homeworld tracking a temporal anomaly, they find a kingdom in disarray. The Great Lord Garzan's son has been attacked, and strange beasts roam the frozen landscape. Whilst Leela spars with the new heir, the Doctor and K9 must work out how all these strange events are connected. Little do they know that their discoveries will shake the Lupari to their core... 5.3 The Krillitane Relic by John Dorney The TARDIS brings the Doctor and Ray to a space station cryogenic facility, where interplanetary VIPs are stored pending medical cures. There is a familiar face here too - someone the Doctor remembers, but who does not remember him... 5.4 Five Hundred Ways to Leave Your Lover by Tim Foley Chris is on a date. But it isn't working out. Perhaps he'll end it over dinner. Or on a cruise. Or in a lunar spa. But who are these figures in red? And why are they so invested in his relationship? All of reality might be at stake, and the Monks will pursue Chris wherever he goes - but as long as he manages to break up with his boyfriend, the Doctor, everything might be saved... **Please note: the collector's edition CD box set is strictly limited to 1,250 copies and will not be repressed**

BOOM! Our discussion with a last-of-a-dyring-breed punt gunner continues! Banned 107 years ago in the United States pursuant to the Migratory Bird Treat Act of 1918, punt gunning has since persisted in the United Kingdom. It's practiced by a few hardy old salts like Ginger Blayney, who gives us proper introduction. Where'd punt guns originate, what are the components of a punt gunning, under what environmental conditions are they most successfully used, and what are the dangers? What's an ideal waterfowl bag when using punt guns, what are punt gunning's advantages and limitations, how does perception differ from reality? How might the men that still practice punt gunning be characterized, and why is punt gunning becoming a lost art? We get into all of this and much, much more in today's incredibly interesting last-of-a-dying-breed discussion that you do not want to miss! I call this one: A Tale of Two Farriers. I sit down with farrier, father, husband, creator and fellow podcaster, Caleb Erickson. We just happen to share a multitude of beliefs, as I discovered through our conversation, and I get to reflect a little on this trade of farriery that I love. Caleb produces The Dying Breed podcast and has a very active YouTube channel with lots of content for those that like horses and their hooves. I really enjoyed being a part of this one. We are cleared for takeoff.

Once upon a time, it was not unheard of for a voter to cast a Republican vote for president and a Democratic vote for a down-ballot candidate like a congressman or state representative – or vice versa. In the 1970s and 80s, an estimated 25% of voters split their ballots this way. Now, this type of voter is rarer than ever because of the political polarization that defines modern-day American politics. This week, Daily Yonder reporter Claire Carlson discusses the decline of the split ticket voter and what it might mean for Montana's Senate race.

Join us at The Fly Box in Bristol Tennessee as Jamieson and Larry record a session with Jonathan and Forrest Neyman on a Thursday evening around closing time. Corey J. Smith opens us up with his cover of Colby Acuff's fly fishing guide anthem "Dying Breed" before we dive right into the discussion. From the news of the day, an emergency on the South Holston River where a drift boat flipped, to the issues that are affecting East Tennessee tailwaters, the conversations were heartfelt and passionate. Many of the anglers and guides that were in attendance for the show joined us to give their perspective and opinions on the varied topics we cover. By the end of the episode the consensus of everyone in the room was clear, we all need to spend more time enjoying each other's company, forming friendships and associations that will build a stronger unified voice for the fisheries we love and cherish. Positivity and camaraderie need to be the priority and The Fly Box is the perfect place to find it. We hope you enjoy the conversations. Thanks to everyone who came out for a damn fine evening with great people. We look forward to seeing you again on the water or at the watering hole!

On the 80th anniversary of D-Day, one of the most pivotal moments of the 2nd World War, host Alex Pierson is joined by someone who wants to make sure the stories of our veterans are forever remembered. Eric Brunt, a videographer and documentarian has a goal to interview, document and properly archive the stories of Canada's few remaining WWII veterans. A goal that is extremely important, but also has a very tight deadline as the veterans are all either entering or surpassing 100 years of age. Alex and Eric talk about why he chose to take on this increasingly time-sensitive task, how he got these veterans to open up about the darkest times in their lives and why all Canadians can benefit from hearing their stories. Today we talk to barchaelogist and historian Mickey Lyons, who recently had a piece in Punch called "Detroit's Third-Shift Bars Were a Lifeline. Now They're a Dying Breed." Third shift bars serve first responders, police officers, medical staff, factory workers and more who work while most of us sleep. They're a thing unto themselves, and in recent years have been fading away. Metro Detroit was home to many of them as we had a large third-shift automotive manufacturing base. As production moved and contracts changed, there are fewer of them. We get into this changing culture in our conversation, and why it's still really important someone who works different hours has a place to hang out and unwind. We also mention the upcoing Hamtramck Historical Museum fundraiser she's involved with. That's on Saturday, April 13. https://www.facebook.com/events/755670272947261/?ref=newsfeed Feedback as always - dailydetroit - at - gmail - dot - com or 313-789-3211 Follow us on Apple Podcasts: https://lnk.to/dailydetroitonapple Or Spotify: https://lnk.to/dailydetroitonspotify Thanks to our members: http://www.patreon.com/dailydetroit

Ahead of his return at UFC 300, Max Holloway sits down with MMA Fighting senior reporter Damon Martin to preview his fight with Justin Gaethje and how that “BMF” title bout came together. Holloway addresses his request for the fight and how the timing worked out so he and Gaethje could throw down at the historic card in April. Holloway also discusses his interest in potentially headlining the fight or at least serving as “the people's main event.” He'll also give his take on the upcoming featherweight title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria and who he expects to win. Holloway also explains why he believes guys like himself and Gaethje are “the last of a dying breed” in MMA where nasty trash talk seems to get far more attention lately than just being the best fighter on the planet. Igancio is a video game developer based in Uruguay that loves the style of 90s RTS games. So much so that he's started making his own. Dying Breed is a single player RTS game inspired by classics like Red alert and will be published by the iconic Microprose. The publisher of games like Sid Meier's Civilization, Worms Armageddon, and Rollercoaster Tycoon, just to name a few. To me, his story of how he started making the game and his struggle to find a publisher is just as interesting as the game he's trying to create. If I had an infinite budget, I'd hire a crew to follow him around for a year and make a documentary on what it's like making an indie game in Uruguay in 2024. But I don't, so this podcast will do. We talked about why he loves this genre so much, what does a modern day indie developer look like, is he using AI, how hard was it to find a publisher and lots more! Today I'm joined by my buddy Cody D'Acquisto. Over the past few seasons Cody has evolved is approach to bowhunting…switching to traditional archery equipment, he's always been one for unconventional low stand set ups…no camo and he's done away with using trail cameras. He's a dying breed of bowhunter who enjoys the harder things in life…whether it's challenging hunts…or iron man style races he's for sure a dying breed. One of my favorite people to talk with, hope you all dig the conversation as much as I did - thanks for listening. To listen to the podcast click the purple play button at the top of the page. In this episode, James sits down with Dr. Alex Lassard, the passionate advocate behind Adeodotus, a non-profit dedicated to the revitalization of Catholic education. What's in the name, you ask? Well, this organization draws its name from St Augustine's son and mirrors Alex's own life story, where heartbreak led to the creation of something that aims to shape the future positively. Listen in as he shares his experiences, the motivation behind the establishment of Adeodotus, and the successful conference held recently in Pasadena that brought the luminaries of the Catholic tradition to the fore.Catholic education is, sad to say, a dying breed. With many Catholic schools being Catholic in name only, it is time for Catholics to step up to revitalize and change the game when it comes to education for young Catholic minds. Technology has been unstoppable force that has reshaped every aspect of our lives, including education. But is it all good? Join us as Alex shares his observations on technology's transformation of the classroom, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, whether you're a parent, teacher, or just someone interested in education, this episode is bound to leave you enriched and inspired. Please prayerfully consider supporting the podcast on our Patreon page. to help grow the show to reach as many men as possible!
