The MMA Vivisection Shows: 'Main Card Preview' & 'Prelims Card Preview'
We're just a day away from a pretty solid PPV with UFC 305, and even the undercard has a little razzle dazzle. Once again, I can't help but laugh to myself when I stop to think what you all are guessing the title means. It would be pretty great to see some of you came up with before you listened to the show. The comments are right there, just in case you want to share. MMA Vivisection & 6th Round is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. But right now, let's see what's shaking with the prelims. We're getting a heavyweight bout as the featured prelim, and for that, I will offer up a rare bit of gratitude in keeping unranked heavies on the undercard. Junior Tafa is a crowd favorite and willing to get right in the pocket, so Valter Walker should prepare for that. It's decent placement for this event. Let's take a look at the rest of the bouts and some alternative stats:UFC 305 Undercard* Junior Tafa vs. Valter Walker 265 lbs* Josh Culibao vs. Ricardo Ramos 145 lbs* Casey O'Neill vs. Luana Santos 125 lbs* Jack Jenkins vs. Herbert Burns 145 lbs* Tom Nolan vs. Alex Reyes 155 lbs* Kenan Song vs. Ricky Glenn 170 lbs* Stewart Nicoll vs. Jesus Aguilar 125 lbsUFC 305 Alternative Stats* Ranked fights: 4* Ranked fighters: 9* Fighters coming off losses: 15* Contender Series alumni: 5* TUF alumni: 1* Debuting fighters: 1 (Nicoll)Don't forget to check out the companion episode for our predictions and analysis of the main card. On today's episode of UFC Unfiltered, Matt Serra and Jim Norton are joined by coach Eric Nicksick of Xtreme Couture and UFC lightweight Drew Dober following his knockout win vs. Ricky Glenn over the weekend. Jim and Matt open the show with a brief intro before shortly thereafter bringing coach Nicksick on to talk about the recent success coming from the Xtreme Couture stable. With Jim and Matt incredibly impressed by newly crowned middleweight champion Sean Strickland, coach Nicksick goes on to explain how Matt Serra's upset win over Georges St-Pierre was periodically brought up during Strickland's training camp as a way of instilling a sense of belief in the idea that upsetting Israel Adesanya was more than just a possibility. After coach Nicksick leaves the show, Jim and Matt shift their attention to the action that took place over the weekend at the UFC APEX during UFC Fight Night: Dawson vs. Green — just in time for Drew Dober to call in and recap his own fight from that card. Now 4-1 in his last five fights, Dober explains how getting knocked out by Matt Frevola helped him recenter his focus and get back in touch with the skills that helped him become a fan-favorite. With Bobby Green using his one-of-a-kind style to pull off an upset win in Saturday's main event over 10th-ranked lightweight Grant Dawson in Saturday's main event, Dober reflects on his own fight with Green — ending the interview with a hilarious story about the back-and-forth trash talk between himself and Green from they fought.

Bloody Elbow fight experts, Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado, are BACK tonight – Sat, Oct 23rd, to breakdown the UFC Vegas 41 ‘Paulo Costa vs. Marvin Vettori' event. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. (SPOILERS...) This afternoon the UFC brought us yet another (the 9th in a row actually) Fight Night card from the smaller octagon at the APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, airing LIVE on ESPN+. The UFC Vegas 41 event showcased top-ranked MW Championship foes, Paulo ‘The Eraser' Costa, (No. 2), & ‘The Italian Dream' Marvin Vettori, (No. 5). Neither combatant had fought since their defeats at the hands of Israel Adesanya at UFC 263 & UFC 253, respectively. The main event contest became a 205lbs catchweight/LHW bout just a few days ago, when “The Eraser” failed to make weight. This brawl became an instant classic. Costa was warned about his hands more than once & had a point removed for an early eye-poke in the 2nd Rd. We got a solid 5 rds of action, pressure, blows, strikes & aggression from both men. After all of that, the judges decided Vettori was the unanimous victor, it was close, but this felt like the right call. Prior to that, our LW Co-Main event today had Grant ‘KGD' Dawson enter the Octagon on an 8-fight win streak against Rick/y ‘The Gladiator' Glenn. In a solid back-n-forth effort from both men, it went the distance resulting in the judges deciding on a Majority Draw, which is always a major bummer for everyone involved. On the 8-fight prelims card, our featured prelim won FOTN for the overall event -- Gregory Rodrigues proved victorious with a standing TKO via punches in the 2nd Rd over Jun Yong Park. Gregory hit Park with gigantic right hands, rocking him & sending him stumbling, took advantage of his foes weakness, followed it all up with a massive uppercut which put him to sleep standing. Also, in our 4th bout of the night, we had Jai ‘The Black Country Banger' Herbert strike the crap out of Khama ‘The Death Star' Worthy over the course of about 2+1/2 mins or so - 1st Rd stoppage. Overall, this massive 14-bout card saw 2 1st Rd finishes, 4 KO/TKO's, 1 sub, & 8 decisions, 1 split. Plus, 1 majority draw. Rounding things out, bonuses for putting forth POTN efforts went to Alex Caceres & Marvin Vettori; FOTN honors went to Gregory Rodrigues vs Jun Yong Park. Connor Ruebusch & Guest Host, Dan Tom from MMA Junkie, are here with the MMA Vivisection PRELIMS SHOW, breaking down a set of 8 bouts on this massive 14-bout UFC VEGAS 41: 'Paulo Costa vs. Marvin Vettori' Fight Night event Preliminary Card. First of all, this card is just one more off-week card in what feels like years of off-week cards. But, if last week was a 2 out of 10, this week is a 9. Last week's card was as low as we can go. But hey, this card isn't as bad as all that. To add to that, let's just say the prelims are pleasantly surprising. The featured prelim is well-suited for this slot on the card. It is an exciting middleweight bout between ‘The Iron Turtle' Jun Yong Park and Gregory ‘RoboCop' Rodrigues. Park is coming into this bout on a three-fight win streak, has good wrestling skills, efficient boxing, a really decent jab and Rodrigues, the black belt, has decent wrestling as well, and a lot of defense training on how to respond to that jab and is on his own three-fight win streak. For those fans who wish to dive deeper into the MAIN CARD, check out that version of the MMA Vivi which airs at 2pm Central today, Thurs., Oct. 21st., 2021, right here on our SC channel. Bloody Elbow fight experts, Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado, are here tonight – Sat, June 19th, to breakdown the UFC VEGAS 29: Korean Zombie vs Dan Ige Fight Night event, which was broadcast from the UFC APEX Center in Las Vegas, NV. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. Returning to the down-sized APEX octagon for the main event, we had a Featherweight tilt between the #4 ranked, Chan Sung Jung, aka: ‘The Korean Zombie', with an impressive 16-6 record, three of those more recent bouts were first round finishes, including Frankie Edgar, Renato Moicano and Dennis Bermudez; and his opponent tonight being the #8 ranked, Dan ‘50K' Ige; who was coming off a first round victory over Gavin Tucker back in March of this year via a sweet Right Cross just 22 seconds into the round. The Zombie, the obvious favorite, won the fight tonight via unanimous decision, outgrappling Ige throughout the five-round main event fight. Post-fight he was awarded his black belt and was noticeably and understandably more excited about this achievement than defeating the likes of Dan Ige. It's time for TKZ to get a title shot. In the co-main event, we had a Heavyweight contest featuring the underdog, Sergey ‘Polar Bear' Spivak, who was coming at this bout on a two-fight win streak against Jared Vanderaa and Carlos Felipe since last July, 2020. His opponent in this bout was #15 ranked Aleksei ‘The Boa Constrictor' Oleinik; the Russian brawler had an impressive 59-15 career record, but was coming into the octagon tonight off of two losses to Chris Daukaus and Derrick Lewis since last August, 2020. He is the only fighter to win a UFC fight via Ezekiel choke, doing so twice; also holding the record for most Ezekiel choke wins in MMA competition, with fourteen. Regardless Okeinik's abundancy of career wins, he lost unanimously when the bout went to decision tonight. In the end, he was not favored on the judges scorecards, Spivak took the ‘W' tonight. Also on the card, Marlon ‘Chito' Vera made an epic effort with a thrilling win after a legendary scrap with ‘Dangerous' Davey Grant, putting an abrupt end to his three-fight win streak. We also had a Welterweight clash when Matt ‘The Immortal' Brown went up against Dhiego Lima, in a tilt that ended when Brown devastated Lima with a Right Cross in the second round. Overall, this 12-bout card saw 3 1st Rd finishes, 5 KO/TKO's – 1 stoppage, 1 sub, & 6 decisions, including our Main & Co-Main events - 2 of those 6 being Split. Rounding things out, bonuses for putting forth POTN efforts went to Matt Brown & Seungwoo Choi; FOTN honors went to Vera vs. Grant. Zane Simon & Connor Ruebusch are here with the MMA Vivisection MAIN CARD SHOW, breaking down a set of six bouts on this 12-bout UFC VEGAS 29 'Korean Zombie vs. Dan Ige' Fight Night Main Card. "This week's UFC card is... I guess we'll just call it a cool down from the promotion loading up last week's PPV with quality fights. It's got a great action bout in the main event between Chan Sung Jung and Dan Ige. But, after that, the quality takes a pretty steep drop. There are a few highlights here and there, but mostly it seems like the UFC just has some contract requirements to meet." – Zane Simon For fans who want to dive deeper into the (admittedly very shallow) undercard, check out the Prelims Vivi which airs at 1pm Central today, Thurs., June 17th., 2021, right here on our SC channel.
