Bloody Elbow fight experts, Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado, are here tonight – Sat, June 19th, to breakdown the UFC VEGAS 29: Korean Zombie vs Dan Ige Fight Night event, which was broadcast from the UFC APEX Center in Las Vegas, NV. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. Returning to the down-sized APEX octagon for the main event, we had a Featherweight tilt between the #4 ranked, Chan Sung Jung, aka: ‘The Korean Zombie', with an impressive 16-6 record, three of those more recent bouts were first round finishes, including Frankie Edgar, Renato Moicano and Dennis Bermudez; and his opponent tonight being the #8 ranked, Dan ‘50K' Ige; who was coming off a first round victory over Gavin Tucker back in March of this year via a sweet Right Cross just 22 seconds into the round. The Zombie, the obvious favorite, won the fight tonight via unanimous decision, outgrappling Ige throughout the five-round main event fight. Post-fight he was awarded his black belt and was noticeably and understandably more excited about this achievement than defeating the likes of Dan Ige. It's time for TKZ to get a title shot. In the co-main event, we had a Heavyweight contest featuring the underdog, Sergey ‘Polar Bear' Spivak, who was coming at this bout on a two-fight win streak against Jared Vanderaa and Carlos Felipe since last July, 2020. His opponent in this bout was #15 ranked Aleksei ‘The Boa Constrictor' Oleinik; the Russian brawler had an impressive 59-15 career record, but was coming into the octagon tonight off of two losses to Chris Daukaus and Derrick Lewis since last August, 2020. He is the only fighter to win a UFC fight via Ezekiel choke, doing so twice; also holding the record for most Ezekiel choke wins in MMA competition, with fourteen. Regardless Okeinik's abundancy of career wins, he lost unanimously when the bout went to decision tonight. In the end, he was not favored on the judges scorecards, Spivak took the ‘W' tonight. Also on the card, Marlon ‘Chito' Vera made an epic effort with a thrilling win after a legendary scrap with ‘Dangerous' Davey Grant, putting an abrupt end to his three-fight win streak. We also had a Welterweight clash when Matt ‘The Immortal' Brown went up against Dhiego Lima, in a tilt that ended when Brown devastated Lima with a Right Cross in the second round. Overall, this 12-bout card saw 3 1st Rd finishes, 5 KO/TKO's – 1 stoppage, 1 sub, & 6 decisions, including our Main & Co-Main events - 2 of those 6 being Split. Rounding things out, bonuses for putting forth POTN efforts went to Matt Brown & Seungwoo Choi; FOTN honors went to Vera vs. Grant. Overall, this 10-bout card saw three swift finishes in Round 1, one submission, five exciting KO/TKO’s, three decisions, and the main event ending in a Majority Draw. Rounding things out, bonuses for putting forth POTN efforts went to Kevin Holland and Rafael Fiziev; FOTN honors went to ‘Figueiredo vs. Moreno’, which some are calling an easy candidate for FOTY. When the UFC goes to Alberta, Canada, things just get crazy. After losing it's big heavyweight affair, the card lost it's headlining title fight of Demetrious Johnson v. Ray Borg the night before the weigh-ins. Thankfully, Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko had a plan to save the night - by having a tepid kickboxing affair! The refs had a plan to save the night - by letting Gilbert Melendez get his leg wrecked and Gavin Tucker take the beating of all time! You could have let Dana White know how you felt, but he wasn't there.

There's barely enough intriguing MMA going on right now just to keep the conversation going ... so that's what we did. Joe Rizzo (@RearNakedChoke) and Jason Kelly (@JayKellyMMA) on Rear Naked Choke Radio talked about Tito Ortiz vs. Chael Sonnen at Bellator 170, Bellator as a promotion, the upcoming UFC events, the fight they like, and kept the conversation going. Bellator is notorious for putting on tentpole events. They typically feature sideshows or over-the-hill fighters, but that wasn't necessarily the case at Bellator 170. Rizzo and Kelly expressed their gripes about Bellator and their subpar main events, but also talked about where Ortiz and Sonnen stack up compared to the promotion's previous tentpole main events. While complaints were made, the hosts found the positive aspects Bellator 170, the promotion's future and what could stand to change. As conversation lacked, Rizzo and Kelly resorted back to UFC talk. The UFC has a steady flow of events on the horizon, yet none of them spark a lot of interest in fans. The inaugural women's featherweight (145-pound) champion will be crowned after Holly Holm meets Germaine De Randamie at UFC 208. The UFC is returning to Canada in Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia. Gavin Tucker, a Newfoundlander making his UFC debut, made Rizzo happy for reasons unknown. Heck, even Anderson Silva is about to grace the Octagon in the near future, but Rizzo and Kelly were looking for a fight to sink their teeth into.
