Bloody Elbow fight experts, Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado, are here tonight – Sat, June 19th, to breakdown the UFC VEGAS 29: Korean Zombie vs Dan Ige Fight Night event, which was broadcast from the UFC APEX Center in Las Vegas, NV. The guys will have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. Returning to the down-sized APEX octagon for the main event, we had a Featherweight tilt between the #4 ranked, Chan Sung Jung, aka: ‘The Korean Zombie', with an impressive 16-6 record, three of those more recent bouts were first round finishes, including Frankie Edgar, Renato Moicano and Dennis Bermudez; and his opponent tonight being the #8 ranked, Dan ‘50K' Ige; who was coming off a first round victory over Gavin Tucker back in March of this year via a sweet Right Cross just 22 seconds into the round. The Zombie, the obvious favorite, won the fight tonight via unanimous decision, outgrappling Ige throughout the five-round main event fight. Post-fight he was awarded his black belt and was noticeably and understandably more excited about this achievement than defeating the likes of Dan Ige. It's time for TKZ to get a title shot. In the co-main event, we had a Heavyweight contest featuring the underdog, Sergey ‘Polar Bear' Spivak, who was coming at this bout on a two-fight win streak against Jared Vanderaa and Carlos Felipe since last July, 2020. His opponent in this bout was #15 ranked Aleksei ‘The Boa Constrictor' Oleinik; the Russian brawler had an impressive 59-15 career record, but was coming into the octagon tonight off of two losses to Chris Daukaus and Derrick Lewis since last August, 2020. He is the only fighter to win a UFC fight via Ezekiel choke, doing so twice; also holding the record for most Ezekiel choke wins in MMA competition, with fourteen. Regardless Okeinik's abundancy of career wins, he lost unanimously when the bout went to decision tonight. In the end, he was not favored on the judges scorecards, Spivak took the ‘W' tonight. Also on the card, Marlon ‘Chito' Vera made an epic effort with a thrilling win after a legendary scrap with ‘Dangerous' Davey Grant, putting an abrupt end to his three-fight win streak. We also had a Welterweight clash when Matt ‘The Immortal' Brown went up against Dhiego Lima, in a tilt that ended when Brown devastated Lima with a Right Cross in the second round. Overall, this 12-bout card saw 3 1st Rd finishes, 5 KO/TKO's – 1 stoppage, 1 sub, & 6 decisions, including our Main & Co-Main events - 2 of those 6 being Split. Tonight, the UFC showcases a battle for the UFC Welterweight Championship in the main event. In that featured bout of the UFC 258 PPV card, which is being broadcast from the Apex Center, Las Vegas, Nevada, we have — USMAN and BURNS going at it for the belt. Returning to the octagon for that main event tonight, as mentioned, we have ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’, the reigning UFC Welterweight Champion, Kamaru Usman, with a remarkable 17-1 record, after a seven month break from UFC action to defend the title against contender Gilbert ‘Durinho’ Burns, with his impressive 19-3 record. Originally, this fight was slated for UFC 251 in July, 2020, but was cancelled after Burns and his coach, Greg Jones, tested positive for COVID-19. Then they looked like they would go at it at UFC 256, but the bout was delayed again due to Usman recovering from injuries — tonight it is finally happening. In the replacement co-main event, we have a Flyweight tilt between Maycee ‘The Future’ Barber, entering the octagon with a 8-1 record vs. Alexa Grasso, with her 12-3 record. Also on the card, we have an exciting Middleweight bout taking place between former interim UFC Middleweight Champion, Kelvin Gastelum and Ian ‘The Hurricane’ Heinisch. Originally, this fight was slated for UFC 251 in July, 2020, but was cancelled after Burns & his coach, Greg Jones, tested positive for COVID-19. Then they looked like they would go at it at UFC 256, but the bout was delayed again due to Usman recovering from injuries — tonight it finally happened. In the replacement co-main event, we had a Flyweight tilt between Maycee ‘The Future’ Barber, who entered the octagon with a 8-1 record vs. Alexa Grasso, with her 12-3 record. Overall, this whittled down 10-bout card saw only one swift finish in Rd 1, 3 subs, 1 exciting KO/TKO - our Main event & 6 decisions. Rounding things out, bonuses for putting forth POTN efforts went to Anthony Hernandez, Julian Marquez, Kamaru Usman and Polyana Viana; FOTN honors went to no one, surprisingly. What a night of fights we have to share with you! Also on the card, we had an exciting Middleweight bout between former interim UFC Middleweight Champion, Kelvin Gastelum and Ian ‘The Hurricane’ Heinisch. Gastelum was coming at this off a three-fight losing streak, having been defeated by the likes of Hermansson, Till and Adesanya. While Heinisch was coming off a win to Gerald Meerschaert last June, 2020. We're already at our second PPV of the year, and it's a doozy! So many great fights to talk about at 'UFC 258', but the Main card is jammed with clashes that could have headed up their own 'Fight Night'! You should know how tough Dhiego Lima is, he's gone through two 'Ultimate Fighters', season 19, he got to the final, but it didn't go his way. Had three fights, 1-2. No problem, he went to the regionals, he got back for season 25. Again to the final, again, wasn't his night, BUT things are different. Lost the first fight, but now he's on a three streak. Lima has good BJJ and can put your lights out. Is it enough when facing Belal Muhammad, 17-3 and those three were no joke. Muhammad is on a three streak too, Millender, Sato & Good and his energy is different now. So after Saturday, he's beating you'll 'Remember The Name'! In 2018 Ian Heinisch elbowed his way through the 'Dana White's Contender Series' and came into the UFC strong, with two wins. Hit a bit of a skid, but course corrected in a BIG way at 'UFC 250' and now believes it's his time to shine! Kelvin Gastelum has had a bit of a rough time of late and you know he wants to get the taste of the last fight out his mouth. BUT, he's still the kid who everyone doubted on season 17 of the Ultimate Fighter and shocked everyone, before going on a four fight tear. Plus, he's still 'On A mission 4 Gold'! In the Co-main Maycee Barber is back, after experiencing her first loss at UFC 246 and ending her dream of becoming the youngest UFC Champion. The desire to be champ isn't gone though, and she's ready to start the rebuild & push on Saturday! Ever since her time in Invicta FC you could see how special Alexa Grasso is. Things haven't always gone her way, but with the win at 'UFC on ESPN+ 33: Smith vs. Rakić' you could see the fire is still burning strong and she's ready to use her experience to go all the way! Gilbert Burns vs Kamaru Usman, former teammates, allies in the trenches go head to head! Burns has been on a tear, ready to jump in the fire against anyone. Now, Usman, undefeated in the UFC, he's fought some savages and never looked shock, won the belt in impressive fashion and defended in the same way. It's Fight Week for Geoff Neal and Khaos Williams as they make final preparations for their bouts this Saturday.  For Belal Muhammad, it should have been Fight Week, but a positive test for COVID on Monday changed his plans. He shared his raw emotions with us hours after he posted that his fight with Dhiego Lima was off. Fight fans saw Geoff Neal in his first UFC main event promotions last weekend, which included a particularly pointed threat from Geoff's opponent, Stephen Wonderboy Thompson. Geoff hadn't seen the promos, so Forrest had to tell him what Wonderboy said... on air. Meanwhile, Khaos Williams has been working with a professional boxer as he tunes up for his fight against Michel Pereira, but his main struggles during camp have been trying to keep his family and friends from distracting him. Forrest tells a few memorable stories about what his network expected from him during Fight Week, and how much it used to drive him crazy.  Plus, all three fighters tell you what they do in the last hours before a fight. And in a particularly memorable moment, Belal tells us what it's like in the very final moments before a fight: backstage, you run into other fighters, your opponent, other coaches, and so much more.
