The Columbia Chamber of Commerce describes Columbia as a great place to live, learn, work and play. Columbia Chamber of Commerce president Matt McCormick joined host Fred Parry in-studio for the hour Saturday morning on 939 the Eagle's “CEO Roundtable” program. They tackled the issues of homelessness and crime during the interview and they also discussed the importance of the new $220-million I-70 Rocheport bridge. Former Columbia Mayor Brian Treece, who later served on Missouri's Highways and Transportation Commission, describes the December ribbon-cutting ceremony as a once-in-a-lifetime event. The new Lance Corporal Leon Deraps I-70 Missouri River bridge at Rocheport is now open. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says more than 37,000 vehicles cross the bridge daily. That includes about 8,800 tractor trailers. Chamber president McCormick says the new bridge is generational, adding that one side of the new bridge is the same width as the former I-70 Rocheport bridge was. Mr. McCormick also discussed last fall's Chamber trip to Raleigh-Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He tells listeners that two big issues that came up were university research and also housing. Mr. McCormick also discussed the $20-million expansion of the MU Research Reactor (MURR) in Columbia. The three-story addition is expected to expand MURR's research and medical isotope production space. Mr. McCormick and Fred also discussed Schneider Electric's proposed $73-million expansion at their facility on Columbia's Route B. While Matt McCormick was born and raised in Texas, he's spent the last 12 years in Columbia. He says the Columbia Chamber of Commerce has about 1,000 members representing about 50,000 employees. Mr. McCormick tells listeners that about 80 percent of Columbia Chamber members have fewer than 20 employees:
State Rep. John Martin (R-Columbia) serves on the Missouri House Budget, Economic Development and Elementary and Secondary Education committees in Jefferson City. His district includes Ashland, Hartsburg and Centralia. Representative Martin is a freshman who was first elected to the Missouri House in November. He joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Missouri", telling listeners that his priorities are public safety, education and infrastructure. Rep. Martin tells listeners that he and other lawmakers have convinced the state Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to move the Highway 63 interchange with busy Route B in Columbia up on their priority list. Route B is home to Columbia's Food Corridor, including Swift Foods and Quaker Oats. Kraft Heinz is nearby:
Boone County's presiding commissioner says Schneider Electric sees the need for the proposed $73-mllion expansion at their facility on Columbia's Route B. Presiding Commissioner Kip Kendrick joined host Fred Parry in-studio for the hour Saturday morning on 939 the Eagle's “CEO Roundtable.” Schneider Electric, which many of our listeners will remember used to be called Square D, is seeking property tax abatement on the expansion. Commissioner Kendrick says Boone County commissioners approved the request for Chapter 100 at Thursday's meeting. It now moves to the performance agreement/contract process. Commissioner Kendrick tells listeners that the proposed $73-million expansion would include $20-million in additional warehouse space. That would be a 58,000 square feet warehouse addition. Kendrick says another $53-million would go toward investing in manufacturing equipment line expansion. Schneider wants to add a significant amount of manufacturing lines. Commissioner Kendrick tells listeners that the proposed expansion is expected to create 241 new jobs which would pay above the Boone County average wage, so the jobs will pay more than $48,000. The city of Columbia has used what's called Chapter 100 to help Kraft Heinz in 2015 and in 2024. They've also used them with Swift Foods in 2021. Commissioner Kendrick notes Square D was one of the first manufacturers on Route B about 50 years ago. Kip Kendrick grew up in northeast Missouri's Monroe City. His father ran the Chevrolet dealership in town. Mr. Kendrick describes his father as his role model, noting he taught him the importance of community service and giving back to the community. Kip Kendrick moved from Monroe City to Columbia to attend Columbia College and to work at Job Point, which describes itself as Missouri's premier employment center and Community Development Corporation. Kip Kendrick helped people find work while at Job Point, including many residents with disabilities. Mr. Kendrick tells host Fred Parry that his position with Job Point helped set him up for where he is today. Mr. Kendrick was elected four times to the Missouri House before being elected Boone County presiding commissioner in 2022. Commissioner Kendrick also briefed listeners Saturday on the new multi-million dollar Boone County Sheriff's regional law enforcement training center being built in Columbia. Groundbreaking took place in April, and construction is progressing. He and Mr. Parry about discussed the issue of housing and the senior real estate tax relief program:

Free Loop will become Main Street shuttle Dutchess County Public Transit will hold an information session at Beacon City Hall at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 28) to discuss schedule and route changes that will begin June 1, including a streamlined Free Loop bus that will run up and down Main Street. Dutchess County runs three bus routes in Beacon. It said Route B, which travels on Route 9 to and from Poughkeepsie, will offer hourly service, including eight additional daily trips. Buses will run on the half-hour (picking up riders, for example, at 1:30 p.m. and again at 2:30 p.m.). Route F, which runs from Beacon to Hopewell Junction with stops at the Beacon train station, the Amazon warehouse and iPark in East Fishkill and the Fishkill campus of Dutchess Community College, will see its hours extended to 10 p.m. Following input from the City of Beacon, Route G, also known as the Beacon Free Loop, will become a Main Street shuttle Monday through Saturday and add Sunday service from 10 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. Because of low ridership, it will abandon its Figure 8 loop that includes stops near Mount Beacon and the Beacon Housing Authority. Instead, following a recommendation by the city's Main Street Access Committee, it will leave the Metro-North station every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour, travel down Main Street, turn around at East Main and return to the train station. The B and F routes will stop at the Beacon Housing Authority but the rides won't be free. City Administrator Chris White said Wednesday (Feb. 21) that he will bring a plan to the City Council to subsidize the 75-cent fare for low-income riders. The new route schedules are posted at dutchessny.gov/publictransit. In addition to input from the city, the changes followed a study by a consulting firm that analyzed ridership and surveyed passengers. Dutchess County will provide free rides for passengers attending next week's meeting at City Hall, which can be reached via Route B or the Free Loop.
U.S. Rep. Mark Alford (R-Raymore) represents north Columbia and northern Boone County on Capitol Hill, as well as a large portion of west-central Missouri, including Sedalia and Warrensburg. He joined us live this morning on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", telling listeners that he supports an impeachment inquiry against President Biden. "USA Today" reports U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-California) plans to endorse an impeachment inquiry. The White House has rejected allegations from some Republicans who allege that Biden benefited from his son Hunter's business dealings. A White House spokesman says House GOP investigations have turned up no evidence of wrongdoing. Congressman Alford welcomes the news about Speaker McCarthy, telling listeners that the American people deserve answers. He emphasizes that Congress must have unredacted records. Congressman Alford also addressed agriculture and Missouri's I-70 expansion on the program. Alford, who serves on the House Agriculture Committee, says the massive Swift Foods plant on Columbia's Route B will help the food corridor that's growing in that area:
Columbia-based Emery Sapp and Sons is one of the biggest construction companies in mid-Missouri and statewide. They have about 2,500 employees and are involved in numerous major projects in Columbia, including the $200-million new Swift Foods plant that will open this spring on Route B. They're also involved in the major Midway Golf and Games project and the Old Hawthorne North development. Emery Sapp and Sons recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Vice president Brian Burks joined host Fred Parry in-studio for the hour Saturday morning on 939 the Eagle's "CEO Roundtable." They discussed the Swift project, Governor Parson's plan to three-lane I-70 across Missouri and the challenge of finding employees. They also talked about the company's history and a man named Billy Sapp, who started the company in 1972 with one backhoe:
Columbia Regional Economic Development Incorporated (REDI) president Stacey Button says the massive new Swift Foods plant on Route B will open in early 2023. She says they're currently hiring employees, and that the plant will produce 40-million pounds of food product each year, when it opens. The plant is bringing about 250 new jobs to Columbia. Ms. Button joined 939 the Eagle's Fred Parry in-studio for the hour Saturday morning on the "CEO Round Table." She also updated listeners on the $100-million planned expansion at Columbia's EquipmentShare, and on efforts to add leisure destinations at Columbia Regional Airport:
Swift Prepared Foods will be opening its large plant on Columbia's Route B in 2023, bringing more than 200 jobs to the area. Swift, which has a plant in nearby Moberly, will be making Italian meats. Columbia's Regional Economic Development Incorporated president Stacey Button joined host Fred Parry in-studio for the hour Saturday on 939 the Eagle's "CEO Round Table". Ms. Button says the project highlights the importance of food manufacturing on the busy Route B corridor. Kraft Heinz, Aurora Organic Dairy and Quaker Oats are also in that area:

It's been a long time coming, but the time has come. Welcome to Episode 100, dedicated to you and including you.
A bumper Christmas present arrives out of the ether, just about midnight, in Abu Dhabi whilst waiting to board the Dreamliner home. Huge Christmas good wishes are present throughout the podcast to listeners, workers, shirkers & callerinerers. Oddly no-one expressed any real surprise that the wedding went ahead. Less surprising is the way many of the sufferings of the last year have been magically "kissed better". The Grundies are home with the turkeys all sold, Pip and Dan have pulled crackers, the happy Snell family are all home, Susan is no longer over exposed and we think Route B has been cancelled, but is Roy divorced? I agree with Roifield, many businesses have December year ends. Other businesses make decisions in December as they take 3 months to implement. So there Lucy; although we are pleased that you will emerge from behind your massive teapots. And if you thought David's decision was big wait until you hear this week's big decision! I remain unsure if Roifield ought to be called out... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Lucy has reached the point where she has disassociated herself from the entire Rob and Helen storyline. It has been dragged out for far too long in atrocious detail and consequently like the flood has completely unbalanced the entire docudrama and the remaining village inhabitants are not getting a fair share of the microphones. As a result the Fairbrethern end up being treated like Pinky and Perky (or Sesame Street) thinly drawn characters compared with the Dostoevsky-like excellence contained in the abuse story. And Lucy is equally upset at the poor treatment handed out to Joe - the real world does not work like that. Historically stories would usually be well researched and managed by the team via the editor - but currently there are so many loose ends a lot does not make sense. This theme recurred in a number of calls. Jim discovered that the flood assessments for Route B used the wrong hydraulic model in the light of the flood and therefore the assessment needed to be done again correctly. A...
