Hunting camp is where life-long friendships are formed, memories are made, stories are told and good times are had. This year in Texas was no exception! This episode joins Chad, Kess, Drew, Nick, Carter and Sam; the crew from Fall Obsession's 2025 Texas Turkey hunt as they recap an exceptional (and slightly warm) weekend chasing thunderchickens in the Lone Star State! The guys talk about the highs and the lows, the challenges of hunting turkeys in Texas compared to other areas, bow hunting and hog hunting, and much more! Nick and Chad recap their successful hunts from the weekend, and the guys revisit a strange occurrence from the first night in camp having seen something very unusual after dark. One thing is for sure, you may never know what Texas has in store but it is always a good time!Fall Obsession Podcast is sponsored by:Hoot Camo Company (https://hootcamo.com/)Bear River Archery (https://www.bearriverarchery.com/)Trophy Edits (https://trophyedits.com/?ref=fallobsession)The Outdoor Call Radio App (https://www.theoutdoorcallradio.com/)
He's just a southern guy who loves hunting and the outdoors, but you may recognize him as one of the funniest and most relatable people on your social media feed. Trent Ellis is our guest on this week's podcast, and we have one heck of a good time! Trent is one of the most down-to-earth people you will ever find, and he shares with us his background and the journey that lead him to creating the online comedy videos and skits we all know and love. We talk a lot about hunting, take some trips down memory lane, and our discussion over our favorite hunting season snacks resulted in Trent adding some items to his grocery list. It was a pleasure to spend an hour with Trent, who at the end of the day is just like the rest of us and always finding comedic ways to make light of every day occurrences. It takes a lot of dedication, hard work and patience to make it in a saturated hunting industry filled with online content creators. There are different avenues many follow during their own growth, and some are better than others. This week our host Sam dives into the mindset of a Brand Ambassador in the outdoor industry. The key takeaways from this episode include setting you and/or your brand apart, developing and cultivating quality relationships, building trust and authenticity, and certainly what NOT to do along the way. Sam views the Brand Ambassador from the perspective of both the creator and the organization and highlights the importance to representing both your affiliates and hunting in general with respect. If you have the words "Brand Ambassador", "Field Staff" or "Pro Staff" next to your name, or if you are thinking about representing an organization in such a capacity, then this is a must listen. He is a full-time hunting and fishing guide in the great state of Colorado and has a degree in wildlife biology with his previous background including having worked for the CPW in his earlier years. The term "wildlife conservation" encompasses so many different species of animals. Mountain Goats are included in that, and may be considered a coveted or once-in-a-lifetime hunting experience for some folks. But what you may not realize is Mountain Goats do not always get the focus they deserve when it comes to normal conservation efforts and funding. That's where the Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance does their work. Kendrick Chittock from RMGA joins us this week to talk about today's overlooked, under-funded and under-valued areas of Mountain Goat conservation, and how their organization bridges a huge gap in research and funding for Mountain Goat conservation across North America. Kendrick gives us an education on Mountain Goat habitats, potential natural and human threats to populations, and how folks can get involved in helping their organization and local game commissions with Mountain Goats. And no, we're not just talking about your wallet, but also boots on the ground. This is very educational episode discussing a species of animal we are all aware exists, but maybe not as savvy as to the help they actually need. Every hunt has a story, a memory and special moments that are forever in our minds. Taxidermy often helps us memorialize the animal and pay respect to our kill, while photos can also help us cherish and remember those significant moments in the woods. This week our guest is Dylan Carlson from Trophy Edits. Dylan and his team work very hard to help hunters, outdoors men and women, outfitters and others enhance and forever commemorate their experiences in the outdoors. Dylan shares with us why it can be so important to have professionals edit your photos and make them "wall-worthy", and it is honestly extraordinary how good these guys are at their jobs! Dylan talks about what makes a photo absolutely explode off the canvas, current and modern technology advancements and some of the best gear hunters and outdoors men and women can use to set their photos up for success, and more! We can't let Dylan go without talking some hunting too, which leads to one of the craziest elk hunting stories we've had on the podcast!Fall Obsession Podcast is sponsored by:Hoot Camo Company (https://hootcamo.com/)Bear River Archery (https://www.bearriverarchery.com/)Trophy Edits (https://trophyedits.com/?ref=fallobsession)The Outdoor Call Radio App (https://www.theoutdoorcallradio.com/)

The defeat of Proposition 127 in Colorado signified a big win for hunters and conservationists. But just because science-based wildlife management had a "win" at the ballot-box doesn't mean the fight is over or the war has been won. John Stallone, the Vice President of HOWL for Wildlife is our podcast guest this week, and he brings a detailed and insightful perspective of the current actions and issues conservationists are still battling across North America. Still in the forefront of everyone's focus is the Colorado Wolf Reintroduction which continues to move forward arguably without the needed science-based management practices. While many may feel wolves are a battle already lost, John and his constituents believe it to be a fight worth fighting, and what better way to do it than by the same method their opposition used to push it through! Also discussed are upcoming actions on California Bear and Mountain Lion Management, along with a new House Bill in Colorado allowing a language change which could lay the groundwork for a future ban on hunting all together! Hunters nation-wide need to be informed and need to be paying attention right now, and this episode puts all of that into perspective!Fall Obsession Podcast is sponsored by:Hoot Camo Company (https://hootcamo.com/)Bear River Archery (https://www.bearriverarchery.com/)Trophy Edits (https://trophyedits.com/?ref=fallobsession)The Outdoor Call Radio App (https://www.theoutdoorcallradio.com/)

Hunting represents more than just the kill for most all of us. It is time in the outdoors, memories with loved ones, a chance to decompress and relax in the great outdoors. However additional stressors of life can often allow us to lose touch with what hunting truly signifies for each of us. Returning guest, Mike Behrens joins us this week with more than just a "season recap". Mike had a very challenging 2024 personally, and found himself hunting out of pure obligation to put meat in the freezer, losing perspective of why he really enjoyed it. This lead to some major lifestyle changes for Mike last year in an effort to build a healthier body and mind. Mike shares with us his journey from last year, in addition to an update on his backyard whitetails. We hope Mike's lifestyle changes can be inspirational to someone else out there who may be feeling dragged down and losing interest in things previously enjoyed. Tune in. Kodiak Island Alaska - a coveted hunting location by many. This week's guest, Kyler Berges set a goal to check one off the bucket list when he began preparing for his first ever Brown Bear hunt. He worked hard preparing as much as possible when it came to his gear, his physical condition and his mental state. He knew it would be the most challenging hunt he's ever been on, but to a certain extent nothing can truly prepare you for an experience like this outside of actually doing it. Kyle takes us from start to finish through this episode, starting with his preparation going into it, followed by the reality of the Kodiak Island he found himself on. Nearly 2 weeks, 4 different stalks on brown bears, and day after day on their feet running and gunning, this trip puts Kyle to the extreme test. We've talked a lot of whitetails in recent weeks, and Sam has gradually shared his own hunting journey from the 2024 season. However there is one big piece of the story that has been missing, and that is the experiences of our Production Director Nick Powell. He joins Sam for this episode to take us through his hunting journey last year, and namely his encounters with a buck called "Bow Blind Buck". Without doubt the most mature buck on the property, this deer had Nick and Sam scratching their heads multiple times trying to figure out how to hunt him. Nick was the first to actually put eyes on the buck in person, and what followed was nothing short of chaotic and exhausting events for any hunter. Join us for the full story and another installment in the lengthy saga that we call "Texas Dirt". Hunting is a way of life and sustainability for many of us, and as is human nature we normally associate ourselves with like-minded individuals who support our passions and lifestyles. Yet today's world of social media often opens the door for those who don't necessarily agree with us to take to their keyboards and speak their minds. In this episode, Sam takes the opportunity to discuss our interactions with anti-hunting activists. He highlights some recent posts on Fall Obsession's social media pages which hit the algorithms just right and popped up in the feeds of some less-than-pleasant individuals. Sam takes the opportunity to explain how we are all ambassadors of hunting and the outdoor lifestyle, and we as hunters and outdoors men and women should still be able to defend hunting in these circumstances while being respectful and not stooping to the level of emotional instabilities the anti's want us to fight from. Sam also talks about how we have to be supportive of each other in our own interactions with fellow like-minded people, because when we disrespect other hunters we are poorly representing hunting as a whole. This is a deep episode, and Sam does not hold back at all. The gloves are off, we are speaking truth and calling it what it is. On this podcast we are joined by Texas Native and our Southern Regional Coordinator Chad Jones! Chad is no stranger to big whitetails in the Lone Star State, and dives right in to recap his 2024 hunting season with us. Chad shares the story of putting his 11 year old daughter on her very first deer, and the significance of moments like these; watching your kids become successful at the same passions as you. He talks about the two bucks he had the privilege to scout, hunt and eventually tag this year, and doing it all in a very non-traditional way for Texas hunting. Chad rarely runs feeders, and talks to Sam about how he adjusts his tactics towards food plots, scrapes, pinch points, and other options in Texas. Finally, Chad shares some coveted "secrets" about obtaining private hunting ground in the Lone Star State; a very highly-sought after acquisition, and no easy task. The Midwest is a traditionally coveted region for whitetail hunting and growing big bucks, which is why every year we are eagerly tuned in to recent hunting experiences and the success a season can bring. Our resident midwest hunter, Show Producer and Land Consultant Mike Tepe joins us for this week's podcast to recap another challenging, successful and educational year. Mike talks about his whitetail management efforts leading info the fall and how they all impacted his end results both positively and negatively. Mike shares a lot of information about EHD and the difficulty that brings to any land owner dealing with such, and how he himself adjusts and refocuses from time to time during challenging seasons. This is yet another deep dive into whitetail hunting with one of our own. Many of Mike's efforts can also be seen in his Midwest Mindset series on CarbonTV! In this podcast, Joe Goodspeed joins us to discuss the evolution of fly rod design and what his approach is for designing some of the most popular fly rods today: Diamond Back Fly Rods. Joe is an accomplished fly rod and fly designer who spends many days on the water testing the results of his designs and tweaking them to near absolute perfection.
We continue our whitetail saga on the podcast this week with one of the best to ever do it; Don Higgins. For those who don't know Don, he is one of the best whitetail managers and land consultants in the business and has been for a long time. In addition to his wealth of knowledge, Don still considers himself to be a student of the game and a student of the whitetail; studying these animals religiously and taking something away from every interaction. He joins our team to talk everything whitetail and what it takes to grow, hunt and tag big bucks year after year. The guys talk hunting tactics, management strategies, EHD, moon phases, aging deer, and so much more. We are once again pumped to bring you a second-to-none conversation that any deer hunter should learn from! Have you ever heard of the Gilbertson twins? My guess is probably not, which is surprising given what these two have been up to for nearly 30 years. MIT graduates Eric and Matthew Gilbertson have made it their mission to summit and survey the highest mountain in every country on Earth. So far, they've successfully climbed 145 country highpoints, documenting their journeys with detailed trip reports and photos. Similar to previous guest Steph Abegg, Eric and Matthew's attention to detail and the sheer amount of free information they've made available on their website is astonishing. I highly encourage you to check it out after this episode. When I first heard about their objective, I was overwhelmed with questions. How do you condense 145 mountains across 145 countries into a single conversation? Each country is distinct, and climbing its highest mountain poses its own difficulties, whether they're technical, logistical, or even political. To top it all off, Eric and Matthew aren't just climbing these mountains—they're carrying surveying equipment to the summits to verify elevations with accuracy down to the inch. Their work has already corrected outdated information about multiple country highpoints, establishing the true highest peaks for locals and peak-baggers alike to celebrate. It's an incredible endeavor that blends adventure, science, and the pursuit of global exploration. In Part I of our conversation, we dive into the origin story of the Gilbertson twins and their vision for climbing country highpoints. We then start to explore some of the standout objectives that illustrate their experience over the last 30 years. We'll also touch on their meticulous surveying efforts, what it means to truly measure a mountain, and the surprising conflicts they've faced along the way— even some with Wikipedia. Finally, we'll discuss their reflections on climate change and the transformations they've witnessed firsthand in some of the world's most remote and stunning peaks. So, without further delay, I bring you Part I of my conversation with Eric and Matthew Gilbertson.----Don't forget to check out our full video episodes on Youtube! The TCM movement is growing but we need your help to spread the word! Dr. Grant Woods from GrowingDeer.TV joins us this week on Fall Obsession Podcast to talk everything whitetails! Dr. Woods is a well-known and respected wildlife biologist and deer manager whose research, tactics and strategies have been proven to create deer hunting paradises for decades. Sam and Ryan cover a lot of ground with Dr. Woods in this episode, talking habitat management, food plot biology, whitetail behavior, moon phases, the rut, and so much more! There is a lot to learn when it comes to managing and growing big whitetails; and certainly so much more than we ourselves think we know. That's why time with an expert like Dr. Woods is so incredibly valuable. We certainly pick his brain and ask him all of the questions on our minds (and maybe yours too) as he boils it down to the science of whitetail hunting!Fall Obsession Podcast is sponsored by:Hoot Camo Company (https://hootcamo.com/)Bear River Archery (https://www.bearriverarchery.com/)Trophy Edits (https://trophyedits.com/?ref=fallobsession)Ridge Rock Hunt Company (https://ridgerockhuntcompany.com/)The Outdoor Call Radio App (https://www.theoutdoorcallradio.com/)
Our guest this week, Jordan Henderson was successfully climbing the ladder of corporate America when she realized she was missing what mattered more in life. That lead to her founding the brand Huntress Holdings; an organization dedicated to promoting and cherishing the values of faith, family and firearms. Jordan joins us to talk about the great organization she started, along with several other entrepreneurial ventures she is currently pursuing. She talks about some of her recent hunting experiences with us, including this year's Sika Deer hunt, Black Bear hunt, Whitetail hunting and more! One things for sure, Jordan and her family are all about the outdoors, and live life to the fullest bringing their faith to meet their firepower!Fall Obsession Podcast is sponsored by:Hoot Camo Company (https://hootcamo.com/)Trophy Edits (https://trophyedits.com/?ref=fallobsession)Ridge Rock Hunt Company (https://ridgerockhuntcompany.com/)The Outdoor Call Radio App (https://www.theoutdoorcallradio.com/)
This week show host Sam Thrash takes the opportunity to cover some ground in a couple different topics he's passionate about. The first being whitetail hunting in Texas, as Sam talks about his 2024 season thus far, and feeling like a "bad hunter". The second half of the episode gets him fired up, discussing hunters rights, anti-hunters, the recent success of getting Proposition 127 shot down in Colorado, and more. The recent "ballot box biology" initiative was enough to (hopefully) wake up some otherwise, let's just say "casual" hunters when it comes to paying attention to what's going on around you; not just in your state, but across the country. As always pages such as ours that openly take a stance in these situations open themselves up to the opposition, and some anti's found some of our Proposition 127 content. Sam talks about dealing with these keyboard warriors while representing hunting respectfully and professional. This is a fun, short episode. The most valuable time of the year for any whitetail hunter is arguably "The Rut". Bucks are moving around the clock and pushing does outside of their normal routine, and it makes for some entertaining and enjoyable sits in the woods. This week we are joined on the Podcast by one of our own, Ryan Reading, a Pro Staffer from New York. With over 30 years of hunting experience, and roughly a decade of time spent managing his own properties in the Northeast, Ryan has spent a lot of time studying deer behavior, observing patterns and pulling data from his Tactacam Reveal Cell Cams, and not to mention hunting big whitetails. Specifically, a recent 3 year quest to tag his number 1 target that came to fruition in 2024 in an epic, heated rut hunt! Ryan tells us the story and his history with this specific buck, and we talk whitetail management strategies, tactics, and how to hunt big bucks pre-rut, during the rut, and post rut!Fall Obsession Podcast is sponsored by:Hoot Camo Company (https://hootcamo.com/)Numzaan Safaris (https://www.numzaan.com)Trophy Edits (https://trophyedits.com/?ref=fallobsession)Ridge Rock Hunt Company (https://ridgerockhuntcompany.com/)The Outdoor Call Radio App (https://www.theoutdoorcallradio.com/)

Having returned from the mountains of Central Idaho, Sam sits down to spend some time reflecting on one of his most incredible, epic and intense hunting trips to date. Invited to join friends Galen, Chris and Ben for the 2024 season, the crew took their horseback pack trip 25 miles into the backcountry searching for elk in untouched country. Last week in episode 208 the four men shared the story with us from around the fire in Elk Camp. This week Sam dives into greater details throughout the trip; talking specifics about the hunt and the experience, including the mental and physical challenges he was not entirely prepared for. He also shares the story of their adventure getting off the mountain, and how the crew was awake for over 24 hours on the last day in an effort to overcome some risky challenges and make it home safely. The Steep and Deep country is both beautiful and brutal. This episode takes us deep into the mountains of Central Idaho with show host Sam, and friends Galen, Chris and Ben. Earlier in 2024 this crew packed in 25 miles on horseback for what would turn out to be an epic and extreme backcountry experience! Challenged by difficult access and extreme terrain, this crew overcame many challenges during a week in the "steep and deep" country. This podcast comes directly from Elk Camp, recorded around the fire on the last evening in the mountains. The men reflect on the week, the highs and the lows, their appreciation for the pack animals, and above all the highlight of the trip when they called in a bull on day 5, playing him into archery range and the successful moments that followed! This is an experience these men will never forget, and we are happy to have you all join them! With November quickly approaching, all eyes are on Colorado and Proposition 127 which would prohibit the hunting of Mountain Lions, Bobcats and Lynx in the State. Anti-hunting extremists have pushed their way to the ballot box in one of hunting's most desirable States in an effort to suppress hunting through the uneducated voter. This "Ballot Box Biology" is devastating to any Fish and Game Department, and to hunters and any outdoors men and women who are actually educated in and responsible for carrying out proper wildlife management efforts. Many wildlife and conservation organizations have been diligently fighting this fight, with C.R.W.M. and Dan Gates leading the charge. Dan joins us for this episode to share the many issues that Proposition 127 holds, the long term detrimental impact it would have if passed, why cat hunting is a good thing, and much more. This is the line in the sand between hunters and the anti's, and a Proposition like this passing could cause a domino effect to other game species or other States. Even if you are not from Colorado, every hunter should be paying attention to this. Listen to this episode, share it with anyone you know in Colorado, and help educate others on why they should vote NO on Proposition 127.Fall Obsession Podcast is sponsored by:Hoot Camo Company (https://hootcamo.com/)Numzaan Safaris (https://www.numzaan.com)Trophy Edits (https://trophyedits.com/?ref=fallobsession)Ridge Rock Hunt Company (https://ridgerockhuntcompany.com/)Elite Archery (https://elitearchery.com/)The Outdoor Call Radio App (https://www.theoutdoorcallradio.com/)

In this episode he shares with us some of the unique traits of Northeastern deer hunting, and tactics he regularly applies.
