The Minnesota Wild beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 on Wednesday night in Winnipeg to improve to 9-0-2 in their last 11 games and move into a tie for first place in the Central Division. The Wild got out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Marcus Foligno and Freddy Gaudreau before Winnipeg answered in the 2nd to make it 2-1. Ryan Hartman picked up his 10th goal to push the lead back out to 2 goals but Nino Niederreiter scored as time wound down in the 2nd to make it 3-2. Mason Shaw scored an empty net goal to cap the scoring as Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 46 of 48 shots to seal the win. Kirill Kaprizov left the game in the 3rd period after an awkward fall in which he got tangled up under Logan Stanley and did not return to the game. The Wild are at San Jose on Saturday for their next game. The Minnesota Wild fell 1-0 in a shootout on Tuesday at Xcel Energy Center. The Wild and Flames exchanged zeroes all night in a game the Flames desperately needed to keep their playoff hopes alive. Both Jacob Markstrom and Filip Gustavsson stood tall, stopping numerous chances on both sides of the ice all the way through overtime. The Wild thought they had the game winning goal as Ryan Hartman blasted a shot at Markstrom that rebounded to Jared Spurgeon with an open net, but Spurgeon was ruled to be offsides and the goal was overturned. In the shootout the Wild got the first goal from Freddy Gaudreau, but then Nazem Kadri and Tyler Toffoli scored to give the Flames the win. The Wild play at Winnipeg tomorrow night in the second game of a back to back. The Minnesota Wild picked up a 2-0 win to start their mini 2 game road trip against Columbus on Thursday night. The Minnesota Wild earned a hard fought 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night to finish off their 7 game homestand at 4-2-1. The Wild thought they had an early lead thanks to Adam Beckman's first career NHL goal, but the Kings successfully challenged the play being offsides and the goal was wiped off the board. After a scoreless first period, the Wild got the scoring started thanks to a goal from Ryan Hartman to make it 1-0. Hartman would add another goal in the third to make it 2-0, and other than a late goal from Adrian Kempe, the Kings would not be able to get the answer. Filip Gustavsson stopped 33 of 34 shots for his 15th win of the season, and the Wild next head to Columbus on Thursday. The Minnesota Wild picked up a huge 4-3 win over Nashville on Sunday at Xcel Energy Center and grabbed a critical two points despite Nashville rallying from a 2 goal deficit in the third period. After a scoreless first period, Brandon Duhaime scored 9 seconds into the second period to give the Wild a 1-0 lead. That goal was tied for the fastest second period goal in team history. Kirill Kaprizov added a Power Play goal later in the 2nd to make it 2-0. The Predators added a goal in the second from Minnesota native Tommy Novak to make it 2-1 after 2. In the third the Wild added another goal less than 2 minutes in from Kirill Kaprizov to make it 3-1. The Predators scored 2 unanswered, including Nino Niederreiter scoring with 47 seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 3-3. But the Wild scored 10 seconds later, as Ryan Hartman was credited with a goal that got past Juuse Saros to give the Wild a huge win at home. The Minnesota Wild were beaten by the Florida Panthers 5-3 Saturday Night. The Panthers scored 2 goals to bookend the first and second period on turnovers in the Wild defensive zone. The Wild cut the deficit to 2-1 on a Power Play goal from Matt Boldy, but the Panthers scored on a Ryan Hartman penalty to reclaim the 2 goal edge. The Wild made it 3-2 on a Power Play goal for Joel Eriksson Ek, but the Panthers once again reclaimed a 2 goal lead. After a goal for Jared Spurgeon with the extra attacker, the Panthers added an empty net goal to seal the win. The Wild play next at Tampa Bay on Tuesday. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we look at a couple of suggestions for the Wild to get their offense going consistently. We look at the possibility of switching Sam Steel and Ryan Hartman. While Steel doesn't necessarily deserve the demotion, the Boldy line is still missing the speed component that makes them most dangerous. Hartman still makes enough plays to be find between Kaprizov and Zuccarello, but the lineup is in desperate need of a second line that can consistently hold the zone. We discuss the impact of Alex Goligoski in the lineup for Matt Dumba, and why trading him and Greenway sooner than later would allow the lineup to get some much needed reinforcements onto the NHL roster. We finish by looking at why the Wild seem to struggle so much on breakaway opportunities, especially over the last weeks worth of games. We look at Dumba's body of work even with his stills overall in decline. The Minnesota Wild were shut out by the St. Louis Blues 3-0 on Sunday at Xcel Energy Center. The Wild were without Mats Zuccarello as he recovers from an injury, and then lost Jordan Greenway before the game started due to an illness. Ryan Hartman and Joel Eriksson Ek both left the game at different points with injuries, but eventually returned. Filip Gustavsson stopped 22 of 24 shots, but the Blues got a Power Play goal, an Empty Net goal and 36 saves from Thomas Greiss to pick up the win. The Buffalo Sabres rallied from a 5-4 deficit to beat the Minnesota Wild 6-5 in overtime. The Wild faced a 4-2 deficit in the second before Ryan Hartman scored with a minute left in the period to cut it to a 4-3 deficit. Marcus Foligno scored to tie the score at 4 in the third and then Joel Eriksson Ek broke the tie with a power play goal. The Sabres tied it with time winding down and Rasmus Dhalin scored the game winner in OT. The Wild also had goals from Kirill Kaprizov and Brandon Duhaime in the defeat.
