In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals game tonight as they take down the Philadelphia Flyers by a score of 3-2. The game winner in overtime was a slick pass by Dylan Strome to Alex Ovechkin for the overtime game winning goal. It was Alex Ovechkin's 790th career goal. Ovi is now 12 goals from passing Gordie Howe and 105 from pass Wayne Gretzky. This game also saw they return of TJ Oshie. TJ had missed the last 11 games due to injury. His return was noticeable and helped and raised the spirits of the Capitals team that said they felt frustrated and deflated. Sonny Milano also had a great impact in tonight's game when he scored the game tying goal. Milano who was released from a PTO in Calgary has been a great addition to this team. In this episode of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the shootout loss to the Carolina Hurricanes Monday night. The Capitals got goals from Alex Ovechkin and Dylan Strome but fell 3-2 in the shootout to the red-hot Hurricanes. They didn't leave empty-handed though, taking a point as they head back home. It wasn't a great start for Washington, who gave up the first goal of the game for the seventh time this season. Darcy Kuemper played well again Kuemper finished with 33 saves on 35 shots (.943 save percentage). He is looking more confident with each game and has a .922 SV% with his new club so far. Alex Ovechkin continues to break records. Alex Ovechkin scores his fifth goal of the season on the power play to put the Capitals ahead 2-1. It marks Ovechkin's 785th career goal and his NHL record 288th career power play goal. Ovechkin is now 17 goals shy of passing Gordie Howe (801) for second place on the NHL's all-time goals list and two goals shy of passing Howe's mark for the most goals scored by a player with a single franchise (Howe: 786 goals with Detroit).Ovechkin's goal was also the 399th goal he's scored on the road, which trails only Wayne Gretzky (402) for the most in NHL history. The injuries for the Caps continue to add up. On Monday, the team announced that T.J. Oshie will be sidelined indefinitely due to a lower-body injury that he suffered Saturday night against the Preds. He stayed overnight in Nashville, per a Caps spokesman, and did not travel to Raleigh ahead of the Carolina game.  Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Washington Capitals performance tonight against the New Jersey Devils. Once again the Capitals got great production from their fourth line with goals from Garnet Hathaway and Nic Dowd. The fourth line also had a new addition to their line as Beck Malenstyn was inserted into the lineup and got an assist tonight. The big story of the night was Charlie Lindgren as he made 38 saves on 41 shots. Truly a stellar night for Charlie as he made some timely and big saves. My hope for Charlie is that he gets the next start Thursday vs the Dallas Stars. Dylan Strome had a 2-assist night and Anthony Mantha showed up on the score sheet with an assist on the Protas goal. In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the defensive pairings that have gone unchanged since the start of the season. Dmitry Orlov moved up to the first pairing with John Carlson, while Martin Fehervary shifted down to play with Nick Jensen. The Erik Gustafsson-Trevor van Riemsdyk pairing stayed the same. The Capitals also made some changes to the forward lines. Lars Eller moved up to the first line to play between Alex Ovechkin and Conor Sheary. Aliaksei Protas moved back up to the top 6, working on the second line with Dylan Strome and T.J. Oshie. The Capitals will also get an opportunity to see Joe Snively and Connor McMichael because of the injury to Connor Brown and the suspension to Evgeny Kuznetsov. The Caps also called up Beck Malenstyn as insurance. If Malenstyn has any ice time it would add a physical aspect to the game that's been missing since Tom Wilson's absence. In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about Center Evgeny Kuznetsov suspension for one game for high-sticking Canucks defenseman Kyle Burroughs. Kuznetsov's suspension is the first of his 10-year NHL career for an on-ice transgression. In 2019, he was suspended three games for conduct detrimental to the league. What are the implications of this on the Caps? Later Dan talks about the lower body injury to Connor Brown who was absent from practice after suffering an apparent right leg injury in the third period. Brown tangled with Canucks defenseman Noah Juulsen when he went down and collided with the boards in front of the visitors' bench. He grabbed his right knee briefly, then limped straight down the tunnel to the room. Will this present an opportunity for Joe Snively or Connor McMichael to impress? In the final segment we talk about Alex Ovechkin's four point night Ovechkin had a flurry of offense scoring four points while Conor Sheary, Dylan Strome and more also helped Washington to a 6-4 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. “I think we were kind of pissed with what happened in the second, and it was a great response by everybody,” Ovechkin said. “You can see when we play the right way, it doesn't matter what kind of score. We can always bounce back and win the game.” Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. The game saw goals by Dylan Strome, Alex Ovechkin, Anthony Mantha and Nic Dowd. Darcy Kuemper made 36 saves on 39 shots. In the preseason finale on Saturday, both groups got plenty of work as the Capitals and Columbus Blue Jackets logged a combined eight penalties in Washington's 4-3 overtime victory. The Capitals went 1-for-4 in their power play opportunities, scoring on an Ovechkin one-timer in the final minute of the first period. Later in the show Dan talks about the cuts to the roster Sunday. Lucas Johansen, along with Henrik Borgstrom, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby and Brett Leason, went on waivers after practice. If he clears, he will head to the AHL's Hershey Bears. “[I tell them] my office privately. I don't take it lightly,” Laviolette said. “For a guy who was sent down every year, I understand exactly what they're going through. Sometimes you don't understand but I do. And the conversations are real. Emotions are real. I understand that and nowadays, for the most part, everybody works really hard to try and attain their goal. When you're close, it's you can feel that. It's real.” Aliaksei Protas and Joe Snively appear to have made the cut, though Laviolette said it is still camp and that nothing is permanent. Therefore, he hasn't touched base with them on cracking the 23-man opening night roster, which is due on Monday at 5 p.m. Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. It was a game that saw goals from two of the Capitals biggest off season acquisitions. Connor Brown scored one goal and Dylan Strome scored two goals. It appears goo on ice chemistry between them. “I thought they were good all night,” Coach Peter Laviolette said of the pair. “Their whole line [with Joe Snively] was really good. They worked, they got good skill, they complemented each other, and they brought a lot of speed. I thought Brownie did a good job at dogging pucks. … Stromer was around the puck all night. Really good.” Goalie Charlie Lindgren had a great game and made 13 saves on 13 shots. A really great moment to help boost Lindgren's confidence. “That was exactly how I would want my first game to go — getting the feel of the puck again, seeing game action — so I didn't think my job was too hard tonight,” Lindgren said. “I thought our guys did an awesome job, obviously. Connor and Dylan Strome are battling for that position who will end up playing at second line center this year, I guess that remains to be seen. Dylan impressed Caps fans and Peter Laviolette by scoring two goals in his second preseason game. If the Capitals can get that kind of production from him all year, I think he has the second line center position on "Lock" Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the outlook for the Washington Capitals according to NHL.com "We know it, our fan base knows it and the management knows it that from inside the locker room last year we didn't get it done, and we have to," Capitals coach Peter Laviolette said. "I think the most important thing is that we're ready to win game one. I like to keep things in perspective and on point with where you are currently and I think when you get to that point at the end of the year, you can change your tune and change your focus." Those were the thought of coach Laviolette about the Capitals being eliminated in the first-round last season. GM Brian Maclellan went out and solidified this lineup by signing Darcy Kuemper, Charlie Lindgren, Dylan Strome and Connor brown. Failure isn't an option for the aging "Rock the Red" era Caps Dylan Strome and Connor brown were among the many Caps players already showing up in DC at informal skates. Training camps haven't even started or the first preseason game hasn't been played but there's already teams that are favored to win. The two teams that most are talking about including The Athletic are the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Rangers. Dan gives his thoughts on those picks and who he thinks will finish top of the metro and where the Capitals fit in. The Capitals added: Darcy Kuemper, Dylan Strome, Connor Brown, Charlie Lindgren, Erik Gustafsson. Darcy Kuemper backstopped the Colorado Avalanche on their win of the Stanley Cup. Dylan Strome is slated to be the second line center in Nick Backstrom's absence. Connor Brown ostensibly fills in for Tom Wilson on the top line right wing. Charlie Lindgren who had flashes of greatness last season with St Louis will have his big shot in the NHL being Darcy Kuemper backup. Journeyman Erik Gustafsson will get his shot to help the Caps solidify their blue line. Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. In this episode of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about 5 teams that made the biggest moves in the off season and if those moves put them in a good position to win. The Carolina Hurricanes who finished great last season made more moves to bolster their lineup by adding Brent Burns and Max Pacioretty The Detroit Red Wings who have not been great for the last several years seem to be positioning themselves to be a lot better this year and adding David Perron, Andrew Copp and Dominik Kubalik Ben Chiarot and Olli Maatta. Will those moves help the Red Wings return to their winning ways The Ottawa Senators who also haven't been good for some time seem like they're really poised to make a push with their recent acquisitions.Alex DeBrincat, Tim Stützle and Drake Batherson, Claude Giroux and Cam Talbot should definitely help them in their pursuit to be contenders The Seattle Kraken who didn't live up to their expectation and compassion to the Vegas Golden Knights hope to turn that around this year after the addition of highly-touted prospect Shane Wright, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Philipp Grubauer and winger Jaden Schwartz. And last but not least the Washington Capitals. The Capitals who had consistency issues in net all season signed Stanley Cup winner Darcy Kuemper and up and coming netminder Charlie Lindgren. Brian Maclellan wasn't done yet though as he went out and singer Dylan Strome, Connor Brown, and Erik Gustafsson. Hopefully those moves will help the Capitals get past the first round of the playoffs.  Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar.
