It's not something we can ignore. This show doesn't typically wade into politics, but today it's unavoidable. During the State of the Union address, President Donald Trump announced that Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom following Team USA's 2-1 overtime gold medal victory over Canada. The decision has sparked plenty of reaction, and the guys share their thoughts on the entire situation. On the ice, the Winnipeg Jets return to action tonight in Vancouver against the Canucks. Winnipeg will be without several key players due to injury, including Neal Pionk, Josh Morrissey, and Nino Niederreiter. Ville Heinola makes his season debut -- how do you feel about the Jets' chances against the league's last-place team? Jason Brough of Sportsnet 650 in Vancouver joins the show to discuss what lies ahead for the Canucks this season and beyond. All that and more on today's edition of Jets at Noon. The guys also cover Olympic injury fallout involving Mikko Rantanen, Sidney Crosby, and Josh Morrissey, touch on the Jacksonville Jaguars' back-to-back London home games in 2026, and discuss the NHL's new multi-year technology partnership with Cosm. (28:37) Patrick and Cameron spin the wheel of all the other NHL teams and check in on the Hurricanes, Rangers, and Sabres ahead of the March 6th Trade Deadline! TSN Hockey Analyst Mike Johnson joined OverDrive to discuss the headlines around Canada's gold medal defeat to the United States, the experience in the arena, the players returning back to the NHL, the playoff contenders in the second half of the season, Mikko Rantanen, Josh Morrissey's injuries, the Canadian teams approaching the trade deadline and more.
TSN's Frankie Corrado on a banged-up men's team, Finland learning from Czechia, how Josh Morrissey will help the blueline, and USA against Slovakia in the other semi.
TSN's Mark Masters shares news and notes from Canada's practice, the confidence level in Canada winning gold, and no Josh Morrissey for Canada.
Jamie and Drance open the show recapping Team Canada's comeback win vs Finland. How high were your stress levels during the game? Is Celebrini already a top 5 player? Then, the guys discuss lineup solutions for the Gold Medal game. Later, what are the statuses of Crosby and Josh Morrissey? It's an off day between games at the men's Olympic hockey tournament -- but there's no shortage of headlines out of Milan. What's the latest on Josh Morrissey coming out of Thursday's option practice for Canada ahead of the semifinal against Finland? Could Sidney Crosby miss the rest of the tournament? And why has Sam Bennett been sidelined? Cam and Jim break it all down before turning their focus back to Winnipeg. The Jets are holding a mini-camp to reset ahead of the NHL's return next Wednesday. Jets colour analyst Mitchell Clinton on 680 CJOB joins the show to discuss the banged-up blue line, the benefit of extra recovery time, Kyle Connor as a healthy scratch, and the crucial road trip and homestand facing Winnipeg. Cam has a fix. And at least he thinks it's a dang good one. Using "The Ashes" cricket tournament (don't laugh) as a template, he's got an idea that could give Canadian and American hockey fans exactly what they crave most. He lays it out, gets Jim's reaction, and wants yours too on the text line. Kyle Connor, for the second straight major tournament, has fallen out of favour with the U.S. coaching staff. He's a healthy scratch again. Is it about how he's playing -- or how he's being deployed. Meanwhile, Josh Morrissey appears to be battling through something, and the guys wonder whether Connor Hellebuyck might be dealing with more than what's been disclosed regarding his knee. If they're only 85% coming back from the Olympic break, do you shut them down? In a season that's slipped away, would the Jets trade pride in March for a fully healthy reset in October? In a rare post-game edition of The FAN Pregame, Justin Cuthbert and Jesse Fuchs welcome Luke Gazdic (1:44) into the studio to help break down the Canadian men's 5-1 win over Switzerland. Gaz evaluates Jon Cooper's adjustments through two games, the crowd's impact in Milan, whether there's a problem with the men's format, Macklin Celebrini's hot start to his international career, and much more. Then, Justin and Jesse share some Olympic injury news with Marie-Philip Poulin returning to practice and Josh Morrissey set to miss another game. Finally, former NBA pro and Pelicans analyst Antonio Daniels stops by (26:08) to tee up the NBA All-Star game, the tanking conversation clouding the league, the new international wrinkle of this year's events, what can be done to fix it in the future, and Chris Paul's unceremonious retirement. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning open this episode by circling back to Team Canada's 5–0 win over Czechia, including Jordan Binnington's postgame “psycho goalie” stare. They look ahead to today's clash with Switzerland, react to Josh Morrissey's injury, and debate what's even left for Canada to “learn” after such a complete opener. The conversation pivots to Blue Jays camp with José Berríos speaking publicly for the first time, weighing whether his “bad decision” comments sound like real closure or something that could linger, before touching on the Phillies moving on from Nick Castellanos. After the break, Justin Bourne (28:57) of Real Kyper & Bourne joins as the guys keep riding the high from Canada's near-flawless opener. He zeroes in on the most Canadian subplot possible: Binnington looking calm, sharp, and comfortable, sparking the inevitable “so… what exactly is happening in St. Louis?” conversation. They wrap by looking ahead to Switzerland, what carries over, and whether anything needs tightening at all.The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
What an opener for Canada at the men's hockey tournament. They man-handled the Czechs 5-0, continuingly snuffing out more and more hope as the clock eventually hit zeros. Connor McDavid was lethal, Sidney Crosby was great, Thomas Harley was outstanding, Cale Makar was dynamic -- the list goes on, while Jordan Binnington pitched a shutout! With an effort like that against what was believed to be one of the better teams in the tournament, is a trip to the gold medal game already a foregone conclusion? With the Swiss up next — what are the expectations that game will be close? Don't even get us started on France... but not everything was hunky dory. Josh Morrissey left in the second period and did not return. What's the latest on his injury? All that and more on today's edition of 'Jets @ Noon'. Learn more about your ad choices. It's an important marker for the 2025-26 season -- the Olympic break. For those on the Winnipeg Jets making the trip to Milano-Cortina, Josh Morrissey, Connor Hellebuyck, Kyle Connor, and Nino Niederreiter, it's going to be an incredible experience. But they're likely to come back to a difficult situation because the regular season doesn't reset. Regardless of what comes of Wednesday's game against the Montreal Canadiens, when the Jets return in late February, the push towards the playoffs remains dauntingly steep. Also, Cam has taken a deeper dive into the schedule for the Jets after the three-weeks away. The hill is steep, there's no question about that, but just HOW steep? The guys are also speak to local Winnipeg Falcons enthusiast, Rod Palson, as he gets into the 1920 Gold Medal team made up of most Icelandic Canadians from Winnipeg's West End. What was it that William Munny said in Unforgiven? “Deserve's got nothing to do with it.” That line summed up the feeling following Saturday's frustrating 4-3 overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild. A missed penalty on a hit from behind by Joel Eriksson Ek on Josh Morrissey led to a retaliation cross-check call on Dylan DeMelo, wiping out what would have been an empty-net goal. Instead, Minnesota capitalized on a 6-on-4 advantage, scoring with just 22 seconds remaining before Matt Boldy ended it 39 seconds into overtime. Ugh. The most maddening part? The Jets actually played well. So what gives? Cam & Jim break down what went wrong, what still looked encouraging, and whether Winnipeg's recent stretch of close losses means progress is coming—or if it's just more of the same. The Jets have now dropped five straight games, all by a single goal. Is that a sign things are finally turning, or simply another cruel tease? The guys also look ahead to Monday night's showdown at Canada Life Centre against Connor McDavid and the red-hot Edmonton Oilers. CHED's Brenden Escott joins to take a better look at where the Oilers are headed, as they try to reach the Stanley Cup Final for a third straight time. It's a deep dive, plenty of frustration, and no shortage of opinion—on another episode of Jets @ Noon. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The key to Thursday's matchup between the Winnipeg Jets and the Boston Bruins at Canada Life Centre is simple: Win. How they get it doesn't matter. Style points don't matter. What does matter is that the Jets find a way to bank two points and finally start stacking victories together. Are there any changes coming to the lineup? Will Scott Arniel's latest public challenge to a few players spark the response he's looking for? And can Winnipeg keep leaning on Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, and Josh Morrissey while waiting for the rest of the roster to elevate its game? The Boston Herald's Steve Conroy joins the show to help preview the Bruins and break down what's working — and what isn't — for the Original Six club. The Winnipeg Jets delivered one of their strongest performances since early November — no question about it. But what do they have to show for it? Nothing, after dropping a 4-3 decision to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night at Canada Life Centre. A handful of lapses in defensive-zone coverage and two goals surrendered on the penalty kill proved costly, overshadowing standout efforts from Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, Josh Morrissey, Neal Pionk, Dylan Samberg, and Gabriel Vilardi. Still… is there finally a silver lining? Cam & Jim break down what actually went right, whether this performance signals a real turning point for a team desperate to steady its season, and what areas are still lagging behind. Former Winnipeg Jet Tim Stapleton joins the show to share his insight and discuss what it takes to grind through a stretch like this — mentally and physically. Ken Wiebe and Sean Reynolds discuss the Winnipeg Jets bouncing back with a 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames on Friday night on a night Josh Morrissey collected three assists in a four-goal second period and Eric Comrie made 30 saves in his second start of the season.
It was another big road win for the Winnipeg Jets, who extended their streak to five straight with a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Monday night. Plenty to unpack from this one -- Jonathan Toews scored his first goal as a Jet, Mark Scheifele's seventh of the year ties him for the league lead, the penalty kill went a perfect 5-for-5, and Josh Morrissey passed Dustin Byfuglien for the most assists by a defenceman in franchise history. And don't overlook Connor Hellebuyck -- he's looking every bit like last season's Vezina-calibre goaltender. Ten penalties were called in the game... again. Are officials tightening up, or is this becoming a real problem across the league? The answer might surprise you. Plus -- the Quebec Nordiques versus the Hartford Whalers... on Thursday? Seriously. The Winnipeg Jets pulled off another late rally in a 2-1 overtime win over the San Jose Sharks that featured a Josh Morrissey marker with 25.9 seconds to go and the goalie on the bench in favour of an extra attacker. That was followed by a goal from Mark Scheifele at 1:33 of overtime that moved him past Ilya Kovalchuk as the franchise leader in goals in Jets 2.0 history. It was the 10th consecutive win for the Jets, who improved to 41-14-3 for the season.
