They also spotlight the Stars' post-Christmas surge, with Jason Robertson and Wyatt Johnston leading the charge offensively. Plus, the "Who Cares?" segment gets personal (and hilarious) as the guys debate their favorite celebrities sharing their first names. On deck: (6:49) It took the NBA and the entire sports universe by surprise. The late night trade between the Mavericks and Lakers sending Luka Doncic to LA, with Anthony Davis going to Dallas, among other players and draft picks. Did Luka fall out of favor in Dallas? Is AD the final piece to a championship puzzle? Were other teams involved? It was shocking, to say the least to have two All NBA players traded in season. I'll also discuss the Kings trading De'Aaron Fox to San Antonio in a three team deal. Does it automatically make them a playoff team? I'll check in on Jimmy Butler's situation and another trade that took place as the deadline is Thursday at 3pm. I'll see who's been playing well and keep you abreast of the latest on the hardwood. (32:32) Super Bowl LIX is now six days away. I'll uncover the top storylines, oh wait, other than Saquon Barkley and no Jason Kelce, are there any other angles to sink our teeth into considering these squads played against one another two year ago? Pete Carroll finds an offensive coordinator to run the ship in Vegas. You may be surprised who it is. (37:31) College basketball is starting to hit its stride as March Madness will be here before you know it. I'll recap the week that was (Iowa State loses at home for the first time in forever, Duke's Cooper Flagg shows complete arsenal vs. UNC, Kansas suffers biggest deficit blown vs. Baylor. Coach Cal's return to Kentucky as he gets the last laugh vs. his former team) as there's plenty to unwrap on the collegiate circuit. (46:00) The NBA isn't the only league that's had blockbuster trades. On the ice, the Rangers continue to wheel and deal as they re-acquire former #1 pick JT Miller from Vancouver as they do their best to get themselves back into the playoff mix. The Dallas Stars get reinforcements bringing in two players, including defenseman Cody Ceci that is much needed for a depleted backline. You had milestones (Rangers goalie Jonathan Quick reaches 400 wins, the most by a US born netminder). Alex Ovechkin is now 18 goals from surpassing Wayne Gretzky all time. A great scene in Montreal for native son Marc-Andre Fleury in his last game at the Bell Centre. And Canadian fans booing the National Anthem? I have a word or two on that so I'll throw my two cents in on what's happening North of the Border. (1:00:11) Pitchers and catchers are less than two weeks away. The Tigers re-up on pitcher Jack Flaherty. The Blue Jays sign aging Max Scherzer to a one year deal. And the passing of former commissioner Fay Vincent who had bladder cancer at the age of 86. (1:03:02) Israel Adesanya was TKO'd in the second round on Saturday vs. Nassourine Imavov. Could this be the beginning of the end for the UFC fighter? (1:04:49) A programming note as I'll host a livestream right about Super Bowl LIX to review the game and unpack an event that'll take place early next month that you will not want to miss! Frank is back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown and with Jason Gregor still on holidays, he was joined today by Craig Button from TSN. The two of them kicked things off by talking about the first of three big trades from the weekend: the JT Miller trade. It felt inevitable that Miller would end up back in New York and finally after weeks of rumours, the Canucks pulled the trigger on the deal. They got back a decent return that included a first-round pick, which their front office promptly flipped to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Marcus Pettersson and forward Drew O'Connor. The guys broke down how Miller has looked back in a Rangers jersey and also the Canucks decision to add Pettersson. They also talked about Elias Pettersson's future in Vancouver and whether or not the Canucks are set on keeping him, or if they could have another big trade up their sleeves. The Canucks weren't the only team who made a big splash this weekend either. The Dallas Stars acquired Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a package of draft picks. The guys talked about whether or not this was the right move by the Stars considering how much cap they took on and they also touched on the job that Sharks GM Mike Grier is doing as he continues to rebuild his roster.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about the Rangers' playoff chances, Casey Mittelstadt's availability and how many games Ryan Hartman will get.To wrap up the show, Frank got Craig's take on the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning, who seem to be going in opposite directions.1:35 - Miller returns to the Rangers5:05 - Canucks add another Pettersson16:20 - Stars add Granlund & Ceci29:25 - Flames add Frost & Farabee39:55 - Fill in the Blank51:20 - Red Wings stay hotWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? It's Thursday afternoon, meaning a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is back, edited, and ready to massage your earholes. The guys started the podcast with a tribute to Johnny Gaudreau. The hockey world lost one of its brightest stars last week, and the story is so heartbreaking in every possible way. Even though it's impossible to make sense of this loss, it's been wonderful to read the tributes to the Gaudreau brothers and learn a little more about how incredible they were as human beings.Changing gears, the guys walked through the Leon Draisaitl extension that came down on Tuesday. Not only did the Oilers find a way to lock in one of their biggest stars to a max-term deal, but the fact that he was so happy to stay in Edmonton is a detail that makes this extension so much more special. Needless to say, the Oilers organization has come a long way from the days of losing their stars because the team couldn't afford to pay them.Next up, the guys walked through some of the best stories from Friday's Oilersnation Open, including Tyler's cheating story and how it's a secret that everyone kept under wraps until today. As you'll hear, the tournament was ripe with shenanigans, and it's going to be fantastically funny when two of the podcast hosts find out what actually happened. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a collection of topics that were all over the map. From the Chase money glitch to Wanye trying to buy a Nail Yakupov jersey to Cody Ceci's sad interview on the What Chaos podcast, the last 15 minutes of Thursday's show were pure chaos. Are you surprised? Of course not.

I'm back from vacation, and the Oilers spent the week wheeling and dealing, so I had plenty to talk about in this week's episode of Better Lait Than Never.I started this week's podcast with a quick recap of my vacation to Toronto. It was incredibly relaxing until I ran into some travel delays. From seeing blink-182 again to Niagara Falls to driving around the city, I got up to a lot despite not being there for very long. That said, I think a week in the 6ix is my absolute limit, and I think it's important to add that it's incredibly nice to be back in Edmonton. Just me? Possibly.Turning the podcast to the Oilers, I started the news with a look at the Broberg/Holloway offer sheet situation that reached its conclusion yesterday morning. After a week of waiting, speculation, and a handful of moves by the team, the Oilers opted not to match the Blues' offers on their young players, and I wanted to talk about why they chose to let both guys walk. I also looked at the other trades that happened this past week, including the Cody Ceci deal everyone's been waiting years to see and the trade to bring in Vasily Podkolzin from Vancouver. Despite being in August, this last week was a spicy one for the Oilers.Lastly, I wrapped up this week's show with some betting talk, an RSB about airline travel, and worked through another round of voicemails that were all over the map yet again. The good news is that today's voicemails were a mixed bag of topics, which is always fun from my side of the microphone. Oh, and subscribe to my YouTube channel.

Marco Sturm joins the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast! Sturm was 19 when he started in the NHL with fellow teenager Patrick Marleau -- a situation that the San Jose Sharks will see this fall with youngsters Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith -- and he recounts that experience. The current Ontario Reign head coach also shared some stories about being interviewed for the Sharks' head coach job this summer. But before we get to Marco (1:13:24), we chat about the big Sharks news. On Sunday, the San Jose Sharks acquired Cody Ceci and a 2025 third-round pick from the Edmonton Oilers for Ty Emberson. Keegan was a lot colder on the trade than Sheng, Emberson being his big sticking point. (2:10) How did we grade the trade? (43:02) Are the San Jose Sharks also circling star goalie prospect Yaroslav Askarov? Askarov requested a trade from the Nashville Predators earlier this week. (45:50) Sheng and Keegan bat around different trade proposals for Askarov, discuss their concerns about the mercurial netminder, and more. And now, Marco Sturm! (1:13:24) Sturm talks about what it was like to enter the NHL with fellow teenager Patrick Marleau in 1997. (1:14:00) Who did Sturm live with? (1:19:30) Sturm talks about how important it was to have solid veteran leadership around he and Marleau. (1:21:53) Sturm had a great Sharks career, but he was also part of the biggest trade in franchise history, the Joe Thornton trade. Sturm recalls what he was going through personally at the time, and why he was upset with GM Doug Wilson about it for years. (1:25:55) Sturm was part of two painful Sharks playoff losses, 2002 against the Colorado Avalanche and 2004 against the Calgary Flames. He shares his memories of both, and says if the Sharks had made the 2004 Stanley Cup Final, that maybe he could've played. (1:33:40) What was special about the Shark Tank during the years Marco played? He says it's tough to see the Shark Tank attendance like it is now. (1:38:20) In 2018, Sturm, now Team Germany head coach, led Germany to an Olympic silver medal, their first top-three finish in either the Olympics or World Championships since 1976. He shares what he did to help take German hockey to another level. (1:43:05) When did Sturm realize that he wanted to be a head coach? It wasn't during his playing career. (1:48:40) Sturm talks about being interviewed for San Jose Sharks head coach, including coming to San Jose for an interview. Did he ever talk with Hasso Plattner during the process? He also shared some interesting insight about Mike Sullivan as a young coach. (1:57:15)

It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and is ready to massage your ear holes. This week, we're talking about the Ryan McLeod trade, answering your questions, and discussing whatever else is going on in our lives. The guys kicked off the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a delicious debate about who is more likely to be on the opening night roster: Evander Kane or Cody Ceci. The Oilers are over the cap, so the team will need to do something to become cap-compliant, and a lot of folks are looking at those two players as potential options to move. Changing gears, the guys walked through an article series that Liam is working on that showcases the best and worst draft picks the Oilers have had outside of the first round. With the draft on our minds, we looked back at some of our favourite depth picks and then tortured ourselves by talking about some of the legit NHL players that were selected after. We can't wait to share this series with you! From there, the boys looked at the Ryan McLeod for Matthew Savoie trade and whether their opinion on the trade has changed in the last week after thinking about it a little bit. Even with some time to think things over, everybody on the podcast still loves the trade, even though it means losing a quality player in Ryan McLeod. It's a discussion that's sure to keep you entertained and engaged, as we thoroughly enjoyed talking about it.
