Your Life In Jesus Gives a Light and Path to God for Those Walking Away from God with Hardened Hearts   MESSAGE SUMMARY: Someone who has walked away from God, no matter the hardness of their heart, will respond to your initiatives to light a path for their return to God if your initiatives are based on your love and trust. However, so many of us Christians are so focused on doing their religious or spiritual things and keeping to their “busy” schedules that they do not have time to love and care for others. Is there anything you can do for someone with a calloused heart or who has walked away from God because they were not discipled? Yes, you must start by praying for them – asking God to move in their lives; asking God to intervene in their life situations; asking God to break up the hardness of their heart. Also, you must build a better personal relationship, with this person, through your trust and caring love. In Mathew 18:12-13, Jesus presents God’s perspective regarding the pursuit of even one person that has walked away: “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.". Despite All Today’s “Noise”, We Need to Thank God for His Grace, Blessings and Our Freedom to Serve Him   MESSAGE SUMMARY:  Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His Name. Our government has set aside an annual national holiday of Thanksgiving for all Americans to offer prayers for our country; our many blessings; and our special blessings for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Make no mistake, America has been blessed from its foundation, but we appear both to ignore our blessings and fail to give our thanks to God for His blessings. However, thanksgiving to God, for Christians, should be a lifestyle; and followers of Jesus should not need a special day to give thanks to the Lord. As Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 1:2-4: “We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you.”. Do you, as a Christian, need a special day to give thanks God because you get so immersed in your life outside of your relationship with God? Do you stop to give God thanks for His grace that He gives you and His blessing of a personal relationship with Him? As Jesus Was Taking All Sin Through God’s Grace, Jesus Cried: “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” MESSAGE SUMMARY: When, on the cross, Jesus cried out: “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46, b), At the time of Jesus crucifixion and earthly death was the only time, in all eternity, that Jesus had been separated from the Father. Jesus had always known perfect fellowship with the Father; but when He took on all our sin, His fellowship with God was broken. God, the Father, had forsaken Jesus because God cannot have anything to do with sin. Paul, in Romans 5:15, summarizes Jesus’ sacrifice and the resulting gift of God’s Grace available to us from our faith: “But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.”. Again, Paul reminds us, in 2 Corinthians 5:21, of the Grace resulting from Jesus’ sacrifice: "For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.".   TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, I will live as Jesus would. Doubts Will Not Alter Your Faith, Even with Today’s Secular Turmoil, If You Focus on the Resurrection - the Means of God’s Grace MESSAGE SUMMARY: If Jesus had not been raised from dead, our faith would be misplaced. The Resurrection is your means, through God’s Grace, for the forgiveness from your sins. In Luke 24:25-26, Jesus reveals Himself, after His Resurrection, to Cleopas on the road to Emmaus and summarizes the criticality of the Resurrection to God’s plan for His Kingdom: “He {Jesus} said to them, ‘O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?’”. The Anglican Book of Common Prayer posits in its A Prayer of General Thanksgiving: ".:. but above all for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory . . .". God Has Given You His “Gifts”; Are You Using Your Gifts From God to Serve His Kingdom Today? MESSAGE SUMMARY: To each one of us, Grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. As Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:4-6: “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.”. Just because one of us has a certain gift, it does not mean that your gift is not just as important in the Body of Christ. While some in the church teach that some of the gifts of the Holy Spirit have faded away and are no longer needed. “Says who?” The Bible teaches that all gifts are needed and are necessary if the Body of Christ to function properly. The Apostle Peter tells us, in 1 Peter 4:10, how we, as followers of Jesus, should consider our gifts from God: “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.". If You Follow Jesus, Is Jesus the Lord of Your Life? If So, You Have the Holy Spirit as Your “Counselor” MESSAGE SUMMARY: The question is not "When did you receive the Holy Spirit?" BUT "Have you received the Holy Spirit?". As Jesus told us in John 14:26-27: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.". Is the Holy Spirit Present in your life, and does the Holy Spirit have you? Have you surrendered your life and will to Jesus the Christ? Until you surrender to Jesus, the Holy Spirit cannot lead you. DEVOTIONAL VIDEO From the Moment You Became a Follower of Jesus Having a “Right Relationship” with God, You Had Eternal Life MESSAGE SUMMARY: Am I Going To Heaven? (Christ Anglican Church; Cashiers, NC) If you follow Jesus in faith and confession, you can we be sure that you are in a “right relationship” with God because Jesus is your life’s Lord. Therefore, how can you, as a follower of Jesus in a “right relationship” with God, be sure that you are “saved”? As a follower of Jesus and based on Scripture, the answer is a “resounding YES, you can be sure that you are saved”! As followers of Jesus, God has given you assurances of your Salvation in three different ways: 1) the witness of Scripture through the documentation of the work of Christ on the cross from God’s Grace as a means of Eternal Life; 2) the witness of the Holy Spirit which, again, is God’s gift to those who follow Jesus in faith and confession; and 3) the witness of the Holy Sacraments of your faith (i.e. Holy Communion, Baptism) that assure us of God’s work in our lives. Because of your personal relationship with God, the relationship that you have resulting from following Jesus, you can say to God: “you died for My sins”. Your personal relationship with God should provide assurance of your Salvation. In the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, you are given the Comfortable Words of Paul in 1 Timothy 1:15: “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.". Also, you have the assurance, again from Scripture, in 1 John 5:11-13: “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.". MESSAGE SUMMARY: Sometimes the bottom falls out in your life, and you wonder where God is in all your stuff. Well, the challenge to you is to turn your eyes to God and thank Him. We have no better teacher, of the need to address God with our thanks, than when, in Luke11:2, Jesus responded to His Disciples’ request to teach them to pray: “And he said to them, ‘When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come.’". By taking your situation to God in prayer and thanks. You will be amazed at what will happen in your situation which seemed insurmountable before you asked for God’s involvement through prayer and thanks. What do you usually do? You worry and fret – you focus on the negative and give the adverse situation so much power, in your life, rather than focusing on God and giving Him thanks. In Mathew 6:34, Jesus tells you not to be anxious about your life situations: “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.". MESSAGE SUMMARY: As Christians, we are often not significantly different from the unbeliever next door. To this end, Christians, when we in our non-Christian behavior, are mean, angry, judgmental, selfish, and self-centered. Also, in our non-Christian behavior, we are often in bondage to debt, drugs, and extramarital sex. God’s people in the time of Hosea described in Hosea 11:7,10-11: “My people are bent on turning away from me, and though they call out to the Most High, he shall not raise them up at all . . . They shall go after the LORD; he will roar like a lion; when he roars, his children shall come trembling from the west; they shall come trembling like birds from Egypt, and like doves from the land of Assyria, and I will return them to their homes, declares the LORD.". We need to ask ourselves: “Am I being faithful to Jesus Christ; what needs to change in me and my life; and how am I disobeying the Lord?”. If enough of us get serious with God, then, perhaps, God will heal us and this land. When we, as both individual Christians and as a country, turn to the Lord, will we hear God’s call and answer as in Isaiah 6:8: “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me.’”. MESSAGE SUMMARY: What does the Resurrection of Jesus the Christ have to do with you? Paul, in 1 Corinthians 15:13-14, summarizes the implications of Jesus’ death if His resurrection had not occurred: “But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.". Because of what God did in raising Jesus from the dead, we have forgiveness of our sins -- the crucifixion was not complete until the Sacrificial Limb, Jesus, passed over death and was resurrected. MESSAGE SUMMARY: Jesus died for you and your sinful nature. It is only through the death and Resurrection of Jesus that you are OFFERED the forgiveness of your sins and an inner healing in your life. In John 10:27-28, Jesus reiterates His commitment to those who commit their lives to Him and are His followers: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.". Some Christians mess up because Christians, too, are sinners. However, Jesus gave you a pathway out from the burden of your sins that leads to your Eternal Life. In Matthew 26:27-28, Jesus, again, reaffirmed His commitment to His followers through the Holy Eucharist: “And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.’".   Many non-Christians profess that the reason they choose not to believe and follow Jesus is that they “only see people in churches and those professing to be ‘Christians’ as ‘hypocrites’”. We all have been OFFERED the forgiveness of our sins by God’s Grace, through Jesus, through our faith in Jesus and our confession of sins. However, those refusing to follow Jesus, for whatever reason, have made the personal choice not to accept God’s OFFER of Salvation and Eternal Life. Since we are all sinners, what better place to find sinners than in a church where “Christian sinners” are attempting to live a new life by following Jesus and His Gospel of faith and Salvation. Yes, churches do have “hypocrites” in its total group of sinners. However, unlike those who refuse to follow Jesus because they see Jesus followers as “hypocrites”, “Christian hypocrites”, like other sinners, have a way out through their faith, confessions, and a commitment to trying to live a sinless life. Do you have an excuse not to follow Jesus? MESSAGE SUMMARY: Jesus is the firstborn of all creation; and in Him, all the fullness of Deity {God}lives in bodily form. This position, of Jesus’ Deity, is quite different from the teachings of Islam, Judaism, Mormonism, the New Age, or the Universalist. MESSAGE SUMMARY: The purpose of Jesus’ death on the cross was to sacrifice Himself to provide you a sacrifice, God’s required blood sacrifice, for your sins which you could not do for yourself. In Romans 5:18-21, Paul succinctly explains Jesus’ unique role, that only Jesus could play, in our Justification and Salvation. Jesus’ role in your Salvation begins with God’s Grace: “Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. MESSAGE SUMMARY: On this Memorial Day and during these last days of Easter Season, even in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic, we cannot ignore the Agape {Self-Sacrificing} Love (i.e. “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends”) of a Risen Jesus and those Veteran men and women lying in Cemeteries across the world. Grieving and remembering these Veterans’ ultimate sacrifices are meet and right so to do. However, it is even more meet and right so to do to give thanks for Jesus’ eternal life-giving Agape Love and our Veterans’ earthly Agape Love given for us and our country. In John 15:12-14a, Jesus tells us of the actions that constitute the self-sacrificial Agape Love taken by many of those soldiers interred in these cemeteries: “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends . . .”. We are made in the image of God; therefore, we are supposed to be perfect mirrors of God's Agape Love (i.e. self-sacrificing love). In 1 John 4:16-17, John tells us about God’s Love: “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world." Sin is our failure to act as our God of Agape Love acts -- the opposite of Agape Love is our self-love. Also, in 1 John 4:18-19, John presents us with the fruits of Agape Love, within the context of God’s model for Agape Love: “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us.". DEVOTIONAL VIDEO MESSAGE SUMMARY: Marriage – A Current Assessment (Christ the King Anglican Church; Birmingham, AL) Despite the uncertainties and problems in our Covid-19 world today, we are blessed to live in an incredible time in history. However, the plan and fabric that God designed to keep us together and thriving – marriage and the family – is being perverted. In Mark 10:6-9, Jesus speaks to God’s plan for marriage: “But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.’”. Marriage and the family, in current decades, have been under attack to the degree that marriage is now losing its value in our culture Throughout history humans have corrupted God’s beautiful plan for His Creation. In Mark 10:7, we see God’s pattern for marriage. In Mark 10:8, we are provided with God’s purpose for marriage; and the product of this “one flesh” is children. By becoming “one flesh” in marriage, the man and women become a “new trinity” – husband, wife, and the Lord. In this “marriage trinitarian relationship”, each child is brought into this family relationship in the same way that we, as followers of Jesus, are brought into our personal relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit through the Gospel. In Mark 10:9 we see God’s expressed permeance of marriage. God’s design and plan for marriage, as presented by Jesus in Mark 10, is ideal for us as humans, our nation. and our culture; but His plan is being increasingly perverted. Therefore, what should we do, as followers of Jesus, about these “attacks on marriage”? We can: 1) stand up, speak up and speak God’s truth – Christians need to stop be trampled upon by this divergent culture; 2) model good and Godly marriage and family life to the culture; 3) you teach your children, you not the church/school/government, about God and His plan for marriage and the family; and 4) pray and ask God to intervene in these attacks and to support our seeking to achieve His plan for our own marriage and the family – prayer does change things, and it brings the power of God.   TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because I am in Jesus Christ, I will trust in the Lord with all my heart. The Holy Spirit deals with conscience first and not our intellect or emotion. What happens when we ignore our conscience: 1) we begin to dumb down the power of our conscience to speak into our lives; 2) even though our conscience speaks to us all the time, we begin not to hear it; and 3) our conscience becomes polluted by the world – a defiled conscience. Ignoring our conscience leads us towards self-deception and depravity. How do we keep a clear conscience: 1) confess our sin to God as instructed in Hebrews 10:22-23: "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. MESSAGE SUMMARY:  Others to whom you minister, such as your children and friends, can hear about the Lord and the Gospel from you – for the first time or in timely reinforcement. However, others must hear for themselves and believe for themselves to be saved – no one can be a proxy for someone else’s Salvation faith. Many of us first believed because of what our parents taught us; but then we heard the Gospel for ourselves, and we believed. You cannot live on another’s faith in Jesus for your Salvation. We must hear the Gospel for ourselves and come to the Lord in our own faith. As Paul tells us in Romans 10:16-17: “But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, ‘Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?’. So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." You will stand before the Lord alone in judgment – you will speak for yourself with only Jesus to speak for you. MESSAGE SUMMARY: Some of us and some of our acquaintances are going through horrendous circumstances. Therefore, we ask, given these circumstances, how can we rejoice in the Lord? Paul tells us, in 2 Corinthians 12:10, of the sufficiency of Jesus no mater our trials and problems: “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.". To fulfill God’s exhortation “to rejoice always”, you can rejoice “always” if you keep your eyes on Jesus. David tells us, in Psalm 30:4, to: “Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.”. Paul instructs us for continuous thanksgiving in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit.". MESSAGE SUMMARY: No matter the hardness of a person’s heart, who has walked away from God, they will respond to your initiatives that are based on your love and trust. However, so many of us Christians are so focused on doing their religious or spiritual things and keeping to their “busy” schedules that they don’t have time to love and care for others. Is there anything you can do for someone with a calloused heart or who has walked away from God because they weren’t discipled? Yes, you must start by praying for them – asking God to move in their lives; asking God to intervene in their life situations; asking God to break up the hardness of their heart. Also, you must build a better personal relationship, with this person, through your trust and caring love. In Mathew 18:12-13, Jesus presents God’s perspective regarding the pursuit of even one person that has walked away: “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. DEVOTIONAL VIDEO MESSAGE SUMMARY: Am I Going To Heaven? (Christ Anglican Church; Cashiers, NC) Can we be sure that we are in a “right relationship” with the Lord? How can we be sure that we are “saved”? As a follower of Jesus and based on Scripture, the answer is a “resounding YES, we can be sure that we are saved”! As followers of Jesus, God has given us assurances of our Salvation in three different ways: 1) the witness of Scripture through the documentation of the work of Christ on the cross from God’s Grace as a means of Eternal Life; 2) the witness of the Holy Spirit which, again, is God’s gift to those who follow Jesus in faith and confession; and 3) the witness of the Holy Sacraments of our faith (i.e. Holy Communion, Baptism) that assure us of God’s work in our lives. If you are at a place in your personal relationship with God, the relationship that you have because you are a follower of Jesus, through which you can say to God: “you died for My sins” then you should be comfortable with your Salvation and Eternal Life in Heaven. In the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, we are given the Comfortable Words of Paul in 1 Timothy 1:15: “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.". Also, we have the assurance, again from Scripture, in 1 John 5:11-13: “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. As Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:4-6: “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.”. Just because one of us has a certain gift, it does not mean that your gift is not just as important in the Body of Christ. While some in the church teach that some of the gifts of the Holy Spirit have faded away and are no longer needed. “Says who?” The Bible teaches that all gifts are needed and are necessary if the Body of Christ to function properly. The Apostle Peter tells us, in 1 Peter 4:10, how we, as followers of Jesus, should consider our gifts from God: “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.". In addition to God’s gift of your Salvation, through your Faith and His Grace, what other personal gifts Has God given you; and how are you using God’s gift to you?   TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM A CHILD OF GOD. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. MESSAGE SUMMARY: The question is not "When did you receive the Holy Spirit?" BUT "Have you received the Holy Spirit?". As Jesus told us in John 14:26-27: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.". Is the Holy Spirit Present in your life, and does the Holy Spirit have you? Have you surrendered your life and will to Jesus the Christ? Until you surrender to Jesus, the Holy Spirit can't lead you. As soon as you put up any resistance to "surrendering", you quench the Holy Spirit in your life.    TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Self-centeredness. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Love. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f).
