Book your free discovery call directly, visit: www.robertjamescoaching.com Coach Robert James explores how the search for certainty fuels OCD and why trying harder only strengthens compulsions. He explains that letting go of control isn't giving up but stepping out of an unwinnable battle, and that acceptance — not elimination of anxiety — helps the nervous system settle. Through metaphor and practical insight, Robert encourages allowing uncertainty, opening your hand on painful thoughts, and creating space for life to flow. He also mentions a 12-week program with coaching, videos, and tools for those seeking more support Disclaimer: Robert James Pizey (of Robert James Coaching) is not a medical professional and is also not providing therapy or medical treatment. God Reminds Those Who Want a Deeper Relationship with Him of His Expectations for Their Management of His Resources He Provided Them MESSAGE SUMMARY: As followers of Jesus, we want to go deeper in our personal relationship with God. However, God tells some of us that we must start being more responsible for the material things that He has provided before we can go deeper into spiritual revelations. Also, many of us, while seeking to know the Lord better, want to know His will in our lives and for the World. At the same time, we want to be filled with the Holy Spirit. In Mathew 6:19-21, Jesus is telling us that all that we have, which we tend to call our own, really comes from God. God has expectations for our good management of His resources in our personal relationship with Him: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.".   God tells us that we are to be good managers of His gifts; however, in Luke 12:19-21, Jesus completes a parable about a man who thought that all his assets were his and not from God: “'And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”. Pointedly, God is telling us that if we cannot be responsible for the earthly treasures, which He has provided us, then how can we be responsible for His Spiritual treasures that He wants to provide us as we seek to deepen our personal relationship with Him?   TODAY'S PRAYER: Most merciful God I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I might delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of Your Name. Amen.  TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, because I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Compulsions. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit's fruit of Patience. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f). Season 5, Episode 701: Topics include Relationships, Confessions, Personal story, sexuality and intimacy. Guest: Gallo Chingon  Instagram https://www.instagram.com/gallo.s.chingon/ Reddit https://www.reddit.com/user/gallo-s-chingon/ Have you ever wondered where the line falls between enjoying sex and using it as an escape? Gallo Chingon sat through Celebrate Recovery meetings out of boredom, supporting a friend, when someone else's addiction story struck him with unexpected force. By mentally replacing "drugs" with "sex" in the speaker's words, he suddenly recognized his own patterns—nineteen out of twenty behaviors driven purely by pursuit. For nearly twenty years, he'd measured his masculinity by numbers, treating women disposably and manipulating without remorse (behavior that eventually contributed to homelessness). When his ex-wife revealed his betrayals to their daughter at age twelve, it severed their relationship for over twenty years. Through therapy and programs like Celebrate Recovery, Gallo learned the crucial distinction between sex and intimacy. "They're fundamentally different experiences," he explains. While he now maintains a polyamorous relationship and works actively with therapists to build emotional connection, he still struggles to link physical intimacy with genuine feelings. His damaged dopamine and oxytocin systems leave him emotionally numb during sex, even as he pursues healthier long-term partnerships. By understanding the difference between using sex as stress relief and creating meaningful connection, it transformed everything. Listen how recognizing addiction patterns can open pathways to genuine intimacy and personal growth. Key Takeaways: • **Sex addiction operates identically to substance addiction, though are not the same because no substance is involved** — Gallo's compulsive sexual behavior triggered the same dopamine-seeking cycle as drugs, revealing that behavioral addictions can be neurologically equivalent to chemical dependencies rather than mere moral failings. • **Chronic sexual compulsion creates emotional numbness** — Rather than seeking pleasure, his addictive patterns actually dulled his capacity to feel, making genuine intimacy impossible and trapping him in a paradoxical cycle where more sexual activity meant less actual sensation. • **Recovery doesn't eliminate the struggle** — Even within a polyamorous relationship with therapeutic support, Gallo continues wrestling with integrating physical and emotional connection, demonstrating that healing is ongoing rather than a destination, and structured recovery alone cannot solve the deeper relational work required. This episode explores how intimacy, desire, and erotic states function as powerful tools for healing, nervous system regulation, and personal transformation. You'll learn why certain forms of conscious erotic play create genuine altered states of consciousness, not through substances or external compounds, but through the body's own internal chemistry. This conversation reframes sexuality as a core aspect of health, performance, and emotional resilience rather than something separate from personal development or spirituality. Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Kimi Inch is a somatic therapist and educator with over 20 years of experience working at the intersection of intimacy, conscious kink, trauma healing, and embodied self awareness. Her work centers on helping individuals and couples access deep states of connection and healing through structured, consent based practices that engage breath, sensation, power dynamics, and presence. She is known for creating safe, grounded spaces where people can explore desire in ways that support lasting nervous system regulation and authentic self expression. Together, Dave Asprey and Kimi explore how erotic experiences trigger specific neurochemical responses including oxytocin, serotonin, endorphins, and adrenaline, and why this internal cocktail mirrors the effects of many psychedelic and somatic healing modalities. They discuss surrender, safety, attunement, and aftercare as essential components of integration, and why unexpressed desire often leaks into leadership, relationships, and performance in destructive ways. You'll Learn: • How erotic states create real altered states of consciousness through internal neurochemistry • Why intimacy can function as a powerful form of nervous system regulation and trauma healing • The difference between conscious desire and compulsive behavior • How surrender, safety, and attunement reshape emotional and relational patterns • Why suppressed desire leaks into work, leadership, and relationships • What makes healthy power dynamics healing rather than harmful • The role of aftercare and integration in long term transformation • How erotic intelligence connects to vitality, authenticity, and human performance Thank you to our sponsors! -EMR-Tek | https://www.emr-tek.com/DAVE and use code DAVE for 40% off. -Calroy | Head to https://calroy.com/dave for an exclusive discount. -Our Place | Head to https://fromourplace.com/ and use the code DAVE for 10% off your order. Arcana Coelestia 2661. The Lord did not come into the world to save the celestial, but the spiritual.  On Freedom The New Jerusalem and its Heavenly Doctrine 148: All freedom belongs to the love or affection; for what a man loves, he does freely, Arcana Coelestia 2870, 3158, 8987, 8990, 9585, 9591. Since freedombelongs to the love, it is the life of every one, Arcana Coelestia 2873. There is heavenly freedom and there is infernal freedom, Arcana Coelestia 2870, 2873, 2874, 9589, 9590. Heavenly freedom belongs to the love of good and truth, Arcana Coelestia 1947, 2870, 2872. And since the love of good and truth is from the Lord, freedom itself consists in being led by the Lord, Arcana Coelestia 892, 905, 2872, 2886, 2890-2892, 9096, 9586-9591. Through regeneration a man is introduced by the Lord into heavenly freedom, Arcana Coelestia 2874, 2875, 2882, 2892. A man ought to be in freedom, in order that he may be regenerated, Arcana Coelestia 1937, 1947, 2876, 2881, 3145, 3158, 4031, 8700. Otherwise the love of good and truth cannot be implanted in a man, and appropriated to him, so as to appear his own, Arcana Coelestia 2877, 2879, 2880, 2888, 8700. Nothing is conjoined to a man which is done under compulsion, Arcana Coelestia 2875, 8700. If a man could be reformed by compulsion, all would be saved, Arcana Coelestia 2881. Compulsion is hurtful in reformation, Arcana Coelestia 4031. Worship from freedom is worship, but not worship from compulsion, Arcana Coelestia 1947, 2880, 7349, 10097. Repentance ought to be practised in a free state; what is done in a state of coercion is of no avail, Arcana Coelestia 8392. What states of coercion are, Arcana Coelestia 8392. A man is permitted to act from the freedom of reason, that good may be provided for him; and on that account he is in the freedom of thinking and willing, and even of doing evil, so far as the laws do not forbid it, Arcana Coelestia 10777. A man is kept by the Lord between heaven and hell, and thus in a state of equilibrium, that he may be in freedom for the sake of his reformation, Arcana Coelestia 5982, 6477, 8209, 8987. What is inseminated in freedom remains, but not what is inseminated under compulsion, Arcana Coelestia 9588, 10777. Wherefore freedom is never taken away from any one, Arcana Coelestia 2876, 2881. No one is compelled by the Lord, Arcana Coelestia 1937, 1948. How the Lord through freedom leads a man into good; namely, through freedom he turns the man away from evil, and inclines him to good, so gently and quietly that he does not know otherwise than that all proceeds from himself, Arcana Coelestia 9587. Compelling one’s self comes from freedom, but not being compelled, Arcana Coelestia 1937, 1947. A man ought to compel himself to resist evil, Arcana Coelestia 1937, 1947, 7914. He ought also to compel himself to do good as of himself, but still to acknowledge that it is from the Lord, Arcana Coelestia 2883, 2891, 2892, 7914. A man is in greater freedom in the temptation combats in which he conquers, because he then compels himself interiorly to resist evils, although it appears otherwise, Arcana Coelestia 1937, 1947, 2881. In every temptation there is freedom, but this freedom is with the man interiorly from the Lord; and therefore he struggles and desires to conquer, and not to be conquered, which he would not do unless he had freedom, Arcana Coelestia 1937, 1947, 2881. The Lord does this through the affection of truth and good, which is impressed on the internal man, the man himself being ignorant of it, Arcana Coelestia 5044 Arcana Coelestia 5044[1-13]. Infernal liberty consists in being led by the loves of self and of the world, and by their lusts, Arcana Coelestia 2870, 2873. Those who are in hell do not know any other freedom, Arcana Coelestia 2871. Heavenly freedom is as far removed from infernal liberty as heaven is removed from hell, Arcana Coelestia 2873, 2874. Infernal liberty in itself is bondage, Arcana Coelestia 2884, 2890. Because being led by hell is bondage, Arcana Coelestia 9586, 9589-9591. All freedom is like a man’s Self (proprium), and according to it, Arcana Coelestia 2880. Through regeneration a man receives from the Lord a heavenly Self (proprium), Arcana Coelestia 1937, 1947, 2882, 2883, 2891. The quality of the heavenly Self (proprium), Arcana Coelestia 164, 5660, 8480. This Self (proprium) appears to the man as his own Self (proprium); but it is not his, but the Lord’s with him, Arcana Coelestia 8497. Those who are in this Self (proprium), are in true freedom, because true freedom consists in being led by the Lord and by His Self (proprium), Arcana Coelestia 892, 905, 2872, 2886, 2890-2892, 4096, 9586, 9587-9591. The differences between spiritual and celestial states of mind Arcana Coelestia 10124. As has often been stated before, heaven is divided into two kingdoms, one of which is called the celestial kingdom and the other the spiritual kingdom. In both kingdoms good is implanted by means of truth; but with those who are in the spiritual kingdom good is implanted by means of truth in the understanding part of the mind, whereas with those who are in the celestial kingdom good is implanted by means of truth in the will part. The way in which the implantation of good by means of truth takes place in the spiritual kingdom is different from the way in which it does with those in the celestial kingdom. With those in the spiritual kingdom truth is implanted in the external or natural man, where at first it becomes knowledge. To the extent that the person has an affection for it, and lives in accord with it, it is then summoned into the understanding, where it becomes faith and at the same time charity towards the neighbour. This charity constitutes his new will and the faith a new understanding; and both constitute conscience. [2] But with those in the celestial kingdom truth becomes neither knowledge, nor faith, nor conscience. Instead it becomes a power to receive that is subject to the good of love; and to the extent that they live a life in accord with it, it becomes a power of perception which grows fuller and more perfect as their love does so. This goes on in them day by day without their awareness, almost as it does with young children. The reason why it goes on without their awareness is that truth does not become fixed as knowledge in the memory, nor does it linger as a concept within the power of thought; rather it passes without delay into the will and becomes part of their life. Consequently they do not see truth but perceive it; and the extent and manner of their perception is determined by how much and in what way the good of love received from and offered back to the Lord is present in them. These in the celestial kingdom therefore are very different from those in the spiritual kingdom. And since their perception of truth springs from good they never substantiate it by the use of reasons. Instead whenever truths are the subject they merely say either ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’. [3] These are the ones who are meant by the Lord in Matthew, Let your words be Yes, yes; No, no; anything beyond this is from evil  1 . Matthew 5:37. For reasoning about truths, about whether they are such or not, does not spring from good, because in that case truth is not seen with perception, only believed as a result of receiving it on authority and then corroborating it for oneself. What one believes on authority consists of other people’s ideas within one’s self and are not one’s own; and anything believed on these grounds alone and then corroborated appears after such corroboration to be the truth, even when it is false. This becomes perfectly clear from the beliefs of any religion and from the variety of religions throughout the world. From all this it is evident what the difference is between those who are in the Lord’s celestial kingdom and those who are in His spiritual kingdom. The reason for their difference is that those in His celestial kingdom by the way they live convert the Church’s truths immediately into forms of good, whereas those in the spiritual kingdom keep to truths, preferring faith to life. Those who by the way they live convert the Church’s truths immediately into good, that is, those who belong to the celestial kingdom, are described by the Lord in Mark 4:26-29, and many times elsewhere. Regarding the difference between the celestial kingdom and the spiritual kingdom, see the places referred to in 9277. AC 141. Countless things can be said about the proprium — about what the proprium is like in the case of the bodily-minded and worldly man, what it is like in the case of the spiritual man, and what in the case of the celestial man. With the bodily-minded and worldly man the proprium is his all. He is unaware of anything else but the proprium. And, as has been stated, if he were to lose his proprium he would think that he was dying. With the spiritual man the proprium takes on a similar appearance, for although he knows that the Lord is the life of all, and that He confers wisdom and intelligence, and consequently the ability to think and to act, it is more a matter of something he says and not so much something he believes. The celestial man however acknowledges that the Lord is the life of all, who confers the ability to think and act, because he perceives that this is so. Nor does he ever desire the proprium. Nevertheless even though he does not desire it the Lord grants him a proprium which is joined to him with a complete perception of what is good and true, and with complete happiness. Angels possess a proprium such as this, and at the same time utmost peace and tranquillity, for their proprium has within it things that are the Lord’s, who is governing their proprium, that is, governing them by means of their proprium. This proprium is utterly heavenly, whereas the proprium of the bodily-minded man is hellish. But more about the proprium further on. Third Round posts are short audio clips taken from Round 3 comments in the online Logopraxis Life Group meetings. The aim is to maintain focus on understanding the Text's application to the inner life while reinforcing key LP principles highlighted in the exchanges.

Start with a simple question: if investment drives productivity and growth, what happens to a society that keeps choosing consumption over capacity? We trace a straight line from Marx's core mechanics to Kalecki's equations, then use that line to cut through fashionable theory detours—value-form shortcuts, communization fantasies, and techno-feudal hot takes. The result is a clearer picture of why profits can soar while real investment sags, why the dollar's “miracle” masks fragility, and why printing more money can't manufacture machine tools, skills, or energy. We lay out four regimes that help decode the past 70 years: Fordist reinvestment that pushed productivity up, extractive reinvestment that scaled capacity through coercion, subsistence stagnation where neither investment nor exploitation rises, and neoliberalism's defining mix—low investment, high exploitation, and asset hoarding. From there, we unpack how U.S. trade deficits and financial inflows fed capitalist consumption while weakening the incentive to build. Debt and soft budgets smoothed the ride, but they didn't fix profitability on new capital or reverse the long slide in productivity growth. The numbers point to a coming snap-back to trend, not a new golden age.China's path raises the stakes. Sustained high investment, tighter discipline on capitalist consumption, and strategic upgrading are pushing the global cost curve down and forcing others to respond. That doesn't make China post-capitalist; it does show how targeted capacity-building can escape the stagnation trap. The practical lesson isn't romantic—it's logistical. Real constraints matter: inputs, machine tools, power, training, and time. Risk management beats magical thinking; autarky is a myth, but resilience is a plan. We argue for redirecting surplus toward compounding productivity, treating statistics as instruments not idols, and rebuilding the industrial backbone that reduces market domination over everyday life.If you're tired of theories that skip the engine room, this conversation connects the dials: profits, investment, productivity, debt, trade, and class incentives. In today's episode, we're revisiting obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD. If you've been listening a while, you may remember that in episode 47, I interviewed Dr. Anthony Bram about OCD. wanted to return to this topic because OCD is both more common and more misunderstood than most people realize. And even though awareness has grown in recent years, stigma and shame still keep so many people from getting the help they need. My guest today is Dr. Kim Glazer-Leonte, a psychologist who specializes in OCD, anxiety, and perfectionism. She shares such valuable insight into what OCD is, the way our brains get “stuck” on certain thoughts, and how this can look very different from the stereotypes we often see. We also talk about the incredible variety of OCD themes, how shame can make it hard to open up about symptoms, and what effective treatment looks like. And something that surprised me - how important a role loved ones play in the lives of people with OCD.This episode is all about understanding OCD more deeply and breaking down the stigma that surrounds it. Whether you're supporting someone with OCD, working with clients, or just curious about how our minds work and how thoughts can get stuck, I think you'll find this conversation engaging, eye-opening, and shared through a very compassionate lens. Thanks for tuning in! People Living Lives in which Sin Is Normal Are Missing the Peace and Fruits of the Holy Spirit MESSAGE SUMMARY: In our world, today, people say that it is OK to sin, but sinning is not OK because if you are sinning, the Holy Spirit is not in you. If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the fruit of the Holy Spirit will be present in your life. You cannot exhibit the fruit of the flesh, sin, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Paul explains, simply, the link between being a Jesus Follower and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 6:17: “But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.". In Romans 12:2, Paul describes God's expectations for us to live in the Spirit and not in the flesh {sin}: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.". The fruit of the Holy Spirit includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and self-control.     TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, you know how difficult it is for me to be in silence before you. At times it feels almost impossible, given the demands, distractions, and noise all around me. I invite you to lead me to a quiet, silent place before you — to a place where I can hear you as Elijah did. In Jesus' name, amen.     Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 123). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. Automatic mental compulsions are one of the easiest ways OCD pulls you in without warning — you don't plan them, you don't choose them, and half the time you don't even notice they've started. One moment you're living your day, and the next you're ten layers deep into replaying a conversation, solving a fear, or trying to think your way to certainty. In this video, Dr. Patrick McGrath explains why OCD makes these loops feel automatic and how to “undo” a mental compulsion by ending it in doubt instead of reassurance. Observational Cinematic Compulsion Disorder, or OCCD, is a common behavioral condition characterized by involuntary ocular fixation on a neighbor's in-flight audiovisual LCD display, even in the absence of accompanying auditory stimuli. Patients with OCCD exhibit vastly impaired concentration filtration, resulting in reflexive visual tracking of narrative cinematic sequences presented on adjacent personal screens during commercial air travel. The disorder is frequently associated with heightened situational distractibility, transient dissociative drift, and a paradoxical increase in attentional salience toward media not voluntarily selected by the patient. Management of OCCD involves admission to a 19th-century gothic asylum in upstate New York, with current clinical guidelines emphasizing electroconvulsive therapy administered on a daily basis, leading to a positive outcome of preemptive engagement with self-selected entertainment to mitigate cross-screen visual intrusion. This powerful episode of The Happier Life Project explores the healing potential of creativity and self-expression with artist, educator, and mental health advocate Liz Atkin — a woman who has transformed her experience of Compulsive Skin Picking and anxiety into extraordinary works of art, compassion, and connection. Liz's story is one of resilience and reinvention. Once a dancer, she discovered drawing as a way to self-soothe during her daily commute — a practice that soon became both her therapy and her calling. Through her project #CompulsiveCharcoal, Liz has gifted over 18,000 free charcoal drawings to commuters around the world — from London and New York to Singapore and Cologne — sparking conversations about mental health in the most unexpected places. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held permanently in the Wellcome Collection, South London and Maudsley NHS Trust, Derby Museum, and the Bethlem Gallery Collection. Liz also teaches in schools, hospitals, hospices, prisons, and universities, and is an ambassador for The Big Draw, the world's largest drawing festival celebrating creativity for health and wellbeing. In this episode, Liz shares her compelling story — from the moment she first realised she was a skin picker to how it affected her quality of life and emotional wellbeing. She also talks about the coping strategies she tried, what led her to begin drawing on public transport to self-soothe, and the birth of her global initiative, #CompulsiveCharcoal. Host Gabby asks Liz about the emotional reality of living with a compulsion, her international work teaching art in schools, hospitals, and prisons, and why creativity is essential for mental health and wellbeing.

They all get set up in 3 ways:1. Opportunity: Material accessed too early in childhood development2. Trauma: Just as it says on the label of the can! But make trauma age-related and its impact on the immature developing brain, not what is going on in wars between Russia & Ukraine, Israel & Hamas3. Insecure Attachment: A disruption in the early years bonding between the child and main caregiversDefinition of sex addiction: A pattern of sexual behaviours which pre-occupy your thoughts and are out of control. You cannot stay stopped for a sustainable period or consistently and it has harmful consequences and the behaviour serves a function in your life and it is used primarily to anaesthetize some negative feeling state. (The important criteria which makes it an addiction, rather than a love of sex, is that it serves a function). Love Addiction: We all want love and affection and to feel special to at least one person. We need attachment and instinctively seek connection, especially romantic connection. There is nothing dysfunctional about wanting love and affection and connection.Love addiction, however, is a compulsive, chronic craving and/or pursuit of romantic love in an effort to get our sense of security and worth from another person. During infatuation we believe we have that security only to be disappointed and empty again once the intensity fades. The negative consequences can be severe and yet the love addict continues to hang on to the belief that true love will fix everything. Therefore, they eventually get back up after the hurt of rejection and try the chase again and again, even when love from at least one other, is in front of them. Caused by “Attachment”, mostly set up in childhood, it seeks to fill a perceived void, that will never actually be filled. We all want love and affection and to feel special to at least one person. We need attachment and we instinctively seek connection, especially romantic connection. There is nothing dysfunctional about wanting love, affection and connection. There is a difference between a Compulsion and an Addiction, even if the journey to recovery is the same. Why BPD Relationships Fail - Repetition Compulsions Projection and Projective IdentificationIn this episode, A.J. Mahari explains how unconscious repetition compulsions, projection, and BPD projective identification keep people with Borderline Personality Disorder trapped in painful relational cycles. You'll learn how early trauma shapes perception, how partners become stand-ins for abandoning or abusive parents, and how projective identification pulls loved ones into the Borderline's emotional world. This compassionate deep dive helps you understand what's really happening beneath the chaos — and how awareness can finally break the cycle of reenacting the past which cannot stop or change until and unless each person with BPD is treated for 8-16 years in a psychodynamic modality of treatment because DBT is not a recovery modality for BPD.https://ajmahari.ca/sessions - Sessionshttps://ajmahari.ca/podcasts - Podcastshttps://ajmahari.com - Online Store new Course Modules coming soonhttps://survivingbpdrelationshipbreakup.com - This podcast and my YoutubeThis podcast is ranked in the Top 100 Relationships Podcasts on feedspot.com at:100 Best Relationship Podcasts You Must Follow in 2025Million Podcasts has ranked this podcast in the top 60 Codependency Podcasts, the top 100 Narcissistic Abuse Podcasts and the top 100 in their Toxic RelationshipPodcast lists.https://www.millionpodcasts.com/codependency-podcasts/https://www.millionpodcasts.com/narcissistic-abuse-podcasts/https://www.millionpodcasts.com/toxic-relationship-podcasts/

A terrific BEHING THE LENS for you this week as you're about to hear from two directors whose work I am a huge admirer of and have been for years, both of whom I love chatting with, and each with a new film out – NEIL MARSHALL joins me to discuss his new psychological erotic thriller COMPULSON, while BRANDON SLAGLE is back with me for the 5th or 6th time talking about his latest, the powerhouse martial arts-action-sci-fi film AFFINITY. But first, we've got director BRANDON SLAGLE discussing his latest film, AFFINITY. Set and shot in Bangkok, Thailand, AFFINITY stars Chilean martial-arts star Marko Zaror as Bruno, an ex-SEAL struggling with PTSD. He lives a life in fear of his demons until one day, when he discovers a beautiful woman named Athena with no past of her own. Together they begin to build a life, but when she disappears, Bruno must return to his violent past if he's going to save her from a shocking conspiracy. Now, another director who has spread his visionary wings and stepped somewhat outside of the box from what we have come to expect from him – NEIL MARSHALL. Inspired by Neil's admiration for erotic thrillers of the 1980s and 1990s such as "Fatal Attraction" and "Basic Instinct", something woefully missing from cinema today, he's out to blend the sensuous, suspenseful style of those films with an homage to giallo—a genre of stylish Italian thriller/horror movies—resulting in Compulsion's unique mix of erotic thriller and murder mystery elements. The inspiration to set the story in a visually distinct locale was also influenced by his desire to film somewhere bright and warm, ultimately leading to Malta, which further shaped the film's visual and narrative style. Written and directed by NEIL MARSHALL, COMPULSION focuses on the story of a young woman's visit to her stepfather's villa in Malta that spirals into danger when she's targeted by con artists and a violent murder forces her into a deadly cover-up. As a local detective closes in, trust cracks and dark secrets are exposed. The film stars Anna-Maria Sieklucka, Charlotte Kirk, Zach McGowan, Giulia Garietti, and Harvey Dean. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Today on another bonus episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to a lost, family friend. Our guest today is actress and voice over actress extraordinaire, Pamela Dillman. How we connected to Pamela actually thanks to one of you, our listeners, Barbara Bassett, who alerted us to an interview with Pamela on another site and mentioned she was friends with Mia Kovacs, sister to host Josh Mills. What? Yes really. So we reached out and lo and behold, Pamela could not have been nicer, more kind, more loving in her effusive answer to, did she want to be a guest on our podcast. An emphatic yes! Pamela spoke to us about growing up the daughter of actor Bradford Dillman and the step daughter of one of the world's most famous models, Suzy Parker. Our conversation with Pamela involved everything from growing up with Mia and attending the very proper John Thomas Dye school in Los Angeles, to remembering going to Las Vegas and being in the wings when Mia's & Josh's mother Edie Adams was performing her cabaret act at Caesar's Palace on the strip and much more in between.. We also discuss Pam's working actor dad (her words, not ours) who is known for roles in everything from Escape From Planet of the Apes, The Enforcer, his breakout role in the film Compulsion and much, much more. And of course, how could we forget about Suzy Parker, a woman so famous, none other than The Beatles wrote a song about her? We seemingly split our time talking as if we were in group therapy or the grousing about the ridiculousness of Hollywood acting auditions, how her dad became a scout for the San Francisco 49ers football team as well as a truly harrowing story involving her sibling that you won't soon forget. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast. Get ready for an emotional one.

Build on the right foundation. Our life is built on His life! MESSAGE SUMMARY: Today, we delve into the profound mystery of the Holy Spirit and its vital role in our Christian walk. We're reminded that it's not just about having the Holy Spirit, but allowing the Spirit to have us - to lead and guide our lives. The message emphasizes three key sins against the Holy Spirit: grieving, quenching, and blaspheming. When we choose bitterness over love, or hold onto unforgiveness, we grieve the Spirit. Every time we sin, we quench the Spirit's flow in our lives. Yet, there's hope in confession, which reopens the floodgates of the Spirit's presence. This teaching challenges us to examine our hearts: Are we truly yielding to the Spirit's guidance? Are we living holy lives that honor God? It's a call to deeper surrender and a reminder of our constant need for the Spirit's empowering presence in our faith journey.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, I now take a deep breath and stop. So often I miss your hand and gifts in my life because I am preoccupied and anxious. Grant me the power to pause each day and each week to simply rest in your arms of love. In Jesus' name, amen.    Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 132). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Compulsions. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit's fruit of Patience. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f). In this episode, I dive deep into the part of OCD that is not too often discussed: mental compulsions. Many of us are familiar with physical rituals like checking or handwashing...that being said, mental compulsions can be just as exhausting, and even harder to notice.I go into detail about what mental compulsions can look like and share examples, including mental checking, neutralizing thoughts, analyzing, reassurance-seeking in your head, rumination, and more. I'll also share specific examples to help you recognize when OCD shows up in these subtle ways, and why noticing and identifying them is a key step in recovery. I also share how mental compulsions can show up in Pure O OCD specifically. Whether you live with OCD yourself, support someone who does, or simply want to learn more about it, I hope this episode can be an introduction to this side of OCD that is not discussed enough.
