We played a double feature of legacy games for Cinco de Ocho Dos, which got us thinking about how our thoughts on legacy mechanics might have changed since the heady days of young Board Game Barrage. Before we open that box, we talk about Bonfire, Nidavellir, and The King's Dilemma. 02:07 - Bonfire 10:02 - Nidavellir 18:58 - The King's Dilemma 33:34 - Legacy games 34:03 - Risk Legacy 34:50 - Charterstone 40:19 - My City 47:30 - Gloomhaven 51:42 - Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 52:48 - Scythe: The Rise of Fenris 54:10 - Bunker, Battlefield, or Blown Away 54:38 - Zoned Out 55:00 - Bronze Age 55:29 - Santorini 55:45 - Mini Express Check out our new wiki at: https://boardgamebarrage.com/wiki Join the discussion at: https://boardgamebarrage.com/discord Join our Facebook group at: https://boardgamebarrage.com/facebook Get a Board Game Barrage T-shirt at: https://boardgamebarrage.com/store
Thanks to all of our listeners for helping us reach 1000 downloads! With so many podcasts out there, we are so very grateful that you find the time to listen to ours. We plan to continue bringing you the games and topics that you want to hear so thank you for all of your support. This week in our Sizzling Games segment Conor offers up Potion Explosion as a perfect game for young families and adults alike. Jules delves into the world of silkworms with the aptly titled Silk, and Steve just bangs on about Scythe some more... Except this time it's the magnificent expansion The Rise of Fenris, which leads perfectly into the Topic Of The Week: Expansions. The team discuss the pros and cons of expansions, what to look for in an expansion, and share a list of their favourite expansions on the market today. Find out the winner from the last Board Game Bracket; Nemo's War vs 5 Minute Dungeon; before we set-up not one but two new battles: Oceans vs Root, and Lords of Waterdeep vs A War of Whispers. Jules and Conor come out swinging and take opposing views on these match-ups, so make sure you hit up our socials to get your favourite over the line. In everyone's beloved segment, Swear An Oath, Jules fulfilled his oath by playing (and loving) Explorers of the North Sea and makes a new oath to take his newly created shelf of shame by playing Taverns of Tiefenthal. Conor enjoyed the nail-biting real-time strategy of Pandemic: Rapid Response, and makes a new oath to play the asymmetric game Skulk Hollow. And lastly, Steve finally got Kemet to the table and bloody loved every minute of it. In Photosynthesis he found that the intricacies of growing trees proves a challenge when playing with younger gamers, but found great delight in the nerdy wordy deck builder Paperback. And even though he still has time up his sleeve to play Cartographers, he also adds Tiny Towns to his oath. Like many other people in the UK and across the world, Jack and Lottie are isolating due to the outbreak of COVID 19. They are taking this isolation as an opportunity to play as many board games as possible (the sensible response, right?) In this podcast they share the first ten games on their list and do a thorough review of Everdell played with the Spirecrest, Bellfaire and Pearlbrook expansions. Essen SPIEL 2018! Okay, we're not technically at Essen SPIEL, but we've got that Essen FEEL. We're each counting down the five games that we most wish we were in Germany to play this weekend. Before we hand over our Euros, we talk about SPQF, Le Havre, and Scythe: The Rise of Fenris. 02:09 - SPQF 07:17 - Le Havre 12:31 - Scythe: The Rise of Fenris 17:06 - Essen Preview 17:49 - Magnastorm 19:11 - Futuropia 20:27 - Big Shot 22:41 - Gùgōng 24:21 - Shadows: Amsterdam 26:41 - Smartphone Inc. 28:03 - Alone 29:40 - Solenia 30:44 - Tsukiji 31:51 - Teotihuacan: City of Gods 33:26 - Pax Transhumanity 34:53 - Rebel Nox 36:09 - Warpgate 38:35 - Forum Trajanum 39:34 - 1906 San Francisco 44:43 - Scythe: The Rise of Fenris (SPOILERS!)
Welcome to an episode that, as of about a week ago, Jason never intended to record! Over one weekend, Jason banged out a full solo campaign of Scythe: The Rise of Fenris. It was so good that it merited an immediate podcast about it. Jason rides solo this week for a non-spoiler chat about Scythe: The Rise of Fenris (3:48), specifically what the different modules offer and whether it's a must for Scythe players (it is). After that, Jason gets into the two most recent modules for TIME Stories, Estrella Drive and Brotherhood of the Coast (18:30). SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS We clear yet? Now that we are in spoiler-ville, we invite Jamey Stegmaier to come along for the ride to chat about The Rise of Fenris (23:08). Are you the type of person who, after they watch their favorite TV show or movie, wants to gobble up all the extras, including the DVD commentaries? We have a treat for you! Jamey pulls back the design curtain on The Rise of Fenris and gives us details about mods that were left on the cutting room floor, design challenges and regrets, and ultimately pulling off a full, 8 game, thematic campaign. Guys, seriously, this interview is amazing. Go play The Rise of Fenris and check out this conversation, right now! .
What’s your white whale? The one game you’ve been itching to get to the table for ages, but for whatever reason, just never have? Well, call me Ishmael, ’cause we’re counting down not just one, not five, but ten games each that we haven’t played, but really want to. Spel som avhandlas: Generation Zero, Leisure Suit Larry, Destiny 2: Forsaken, The Messenger, Two Point Hospital, Spider-Man, Scythe: The Rise of Fenris, Roll for the Galaxy, Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team, Gloomhaven
We are but slaves to your whims here at SVWAG, and when our massed masters demand that we dance for their amusement, we must perforce oblige. We resisted for a time, but clearly that was folly. The people have spoken, and their demands will be met: we will descend to the realm of clickbait and listicles and present to your our top 10 games.
