Brian Cox and Robin Ince are joined by Horrible Histories alum Ben Willbond, ancient DNA experts Prof Turi King and Dr Tom Booth and Nobel prize winner Sir Paul Nurse, as they uncover some of the incredible revelations being revealed through study of ancient DNA. The discovery of the skeleton of Richard III under a Leicester car park made headlines around the world.Turi King talks about her involvement in identifying the regal remains using DNA extracted from his teeth and how she was able to prove that these ancient bones really did belong to King Richard. The panel also hear about a mysterious box of bones found in Winchester Cathedral purporting to date from the 8th and 9th century that could belong to some of our ancient Anglo Saxon kings and queens of England, including those of King Canute and his wife Queen Emma. Could the study of ancient DNA change our understanding of history, and perhaps even upset the line of succession? New episodes are released on Saturdays. Data collated from swab samples taken in Wuhan's market in the early days of the Covid pandemic suggest animals sold in the market were carrying the virus at the time. It's the strongest evidence yet for an intermediate species – one which passed the virus on to humans after becoming infected by bats carrying the virus. Dr Florence Debarre from the Institute of ecology and environmental sciences, in Paris and Professor Eddie Holmes from Sydney University discuss the findings. Beethoven's genome has been reconstructed from samples of his hair. It reveals some of his medical history, but also unexpected findings on his paternity. We discuss the ethics of such genetic analysis with Tom Booth who studies ancient DNA at the Francis Crick institute. God knows our sufferings. He knows our failures. And he wants to rescue us from these things, to heal us from our sins and transform our minds to know that we part of his plan regardless of where we fall short. What we need to do is reorient ourselves to let Jesus take over, abandoning everything else in favor of God's will. Thus, when failures come our way, we will not be shaken - for our hope is in God alone. Spend a few moments each day this week praying to God and abandoning yourself to his will, allowing him to be your king, the Lord over your life. Here is St. Charles de Foucauld's Prayer of Abandonment to get you started: Father, I abandon myself into your hands; do with me what you will. Whatever you may do, I thank you: I am ready for all, I accept all. Let only your will be done in me, and in all your creatures. I wish no more than this, O Lord. Into your hands I commend my soul; I offer it to you with all the love of my heart; For I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself; To surrender myself into your hands, without reserve, and with boundless confidence. For you are my Father. -St. Charles de Foucauld "Prayer of Abandonment". Text: Based on a prayer by Blessed Charles de Foucauld, 1858–1916. Text and music © 1998, Tom Booth. In many parts of the world, bread is a staple. Even if you have little else, you have to have bread. In John 6 we read the story of Jesus multiplying five loaves of bread and two fish into an abundance that fed some 5,000 men and also the women and children who were with them. With 12 baskets of leftovers. The next day the people thronged to him. He said to them, “…you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.” (John 6:26-27) Then He added: “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry….” (John 6:35) Resources: Read I Am the Bread of Life: https://bit.ly/3Dfxu7s Listen to “I Am the Bread of Life” by Steve Angrisano and Tom Booth: https://bit.ly/3VLE7Wm Join the Prayer for Prodigals community here: https://bit.ly/3uyhSWQ Sign up for Judy's monthly newsletter here: https://bit.ly/39TBlYt Purchase a copy of the When You Love a Prodigal book for you or a loved one here: https://amzn.to/3RuiUx9 Stay connected: Website: com/podcast Facebook: com/JudyDouglass417 Instagram: com/judydouglass417 Twitter: com/judydouglass417 Linked In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/judy-douglass-815aa358/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/judyddouglass/ YouTube: https://bit.ly/3qzjAqY

This episode documents and commemorates a collaborative research project at UCL, which brought together geneticists, historians, archaeologists and museum curators to consider how science mediates the dilemma of death. It was called Curating Heads and its scientific aims were to use the latest techniques in Ancient DNA analysis to sequence the genomes of two historic figures at UCL: the philosopher Jeremy Bentham and the archaeologist, William Matthew Flinders Petrie. The exhibition that grew out of this research showcased this work and also critically examined the legacies of eugenics in genetics and archaeology. Co-written with Sarah Hart and Tom Booth, Greg Walton's "Holy Spirit, Come" is a wonderful meditation for Pentecost and for confirmation celebrations. The song incorporates two different prayers in a petition for God's spirit to fill the hearts of his faithful: the Veni Sancti Spiritus and St. Augustine's prayer to the Holy Spirit. In this video, Josh Blakesley provides an in-depth tutorial for the chord stylings and fingerpicking techniques used in his song "Beautiful Is Your Love."
We visit the backyard of Boston, MASS with this awesome tribute to Tom Petty and his legacy with the Heartbreakers! The country's premier Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers tribute band. Established to let the fans of the late great Tom Petty continue to enjoy the live experience of TP & the HB's. No other Tom Petty tribute band comes close to capturing the SOUND and emotions of Tom's songs quite like the Breakers. Unlike the vast amount of Tom Petty tributes who substitute visual mimicry for sound, the Breakers encompass the true unmistakable sound and execution of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. If you hear someone mention “Tom Petty Tribute Band”, and you think blonde wigs or dyed blonde hair and a mediocre-at-best vocal performance, then you haven't been to a Breakers show. The Breakers are a no frills rock band who meticulously encompass the Tom Petty sound and musically establish an emotional connection with the crowd that's palpable. When asked why they didn't take the impersonation and prop-driven approach, founder Tom Smith says “we wanted to approach the tribute genre as a true live band, and in (lead vocalist) Chris Chartier we have what no one else has - the most genuine sounding Petty experience in the country.” The members of the Breakers all come from a background of recording and touring with original bands and perform the music of The Heartbreakers with the same passion and dedication. They have paid tireless attention to detail to each and every song which appeals to both casual and diehard Tom Petty fans alike. Since the fall of 2018 when Tom Smith, Chris Chartier, Evan Smith, Rick Hiller, Tom Booth and Steve George joined forces, they have been practicing and honing their sound. In May 2019, they posted a homemade video compilation to YouTube which in just a few months had over 12k views. Debuting the band in August of 2019 in Newport RI to an emotional and packed house, the Breakers proved to be the real deal. Their next show would be a sell out at the Narrows center for the arts in Fall River MA. With only a handful of performances under their collective belt The Breakers were approached and signed exclusivly with Blue Raven Entertainment and are currently booking venues through-out the US. If you want to experience Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers music there's only one band that can deliver that sound authentically...The Breakers. http://www.thebreakersband.com/

In his search for God's will, Tom Booth found encouragement in the words of Thomas Merton, an American Trappist monk whose life of contemplation inspired the world. "Solitude Song" is a prayerful heart to heart dialogue between seeker and God.
Dr. Tom Booth specialises in analysing ancient DNA from archaeological human remains, teasing out all manner of information from diet and disease to migrations of people in the distant past. In fact, some of Tom’s recent research has even shed light on different funerary practices in the Bronze Age, revealing some fascinating discoveries about ways that people related to, or looked after the remains of their departed. (We first reported on this in a piece in the Prehistory Show #3. https://www.patreon.com/posts/prehistory-show-42771218) Tom's work is really bringing some clarity to the huge genetic shifts which took place in the major transition periods of the past and it’s remarkable how the study of ancient DNA is opening so many windows into the past. As is so often the case, we could have talked long enough to make half a dozen interviews. We hope you enjoy this one.
Tom Booth was inspired by his friends who were working to welcome persecuted Catholics around the world into the United States. Utilizing Matthew 25 and John 21 as his Scriptural sources, Tom composed this stirring ballad that challenges us to follow Christ by serving the poor, the forgotten, and the oppressed.

Today's episode is all about legacy. Legacy used to be called run-off and run-off conjured up slightly negative connotations of difficult old greyhairs in dusty out of the way offices eking out a dwindling pot of claims until retirement. I used to think that its keenness to rename itself was a sign that it wanted to rehabilitate itself in some way and that the change was merely cosmetic or aesthetic. But over the years it has become obvious that the words run-off had themselves to be put into run-off. This is because legacy has developed into a sophisticated capital management tool and is far more about adding value and operational efficiency than the handling of intractable old claims. Today's guest is the embodiment of that leap in sophistication over the past two decades. Tom Booth is the CEO of Darag, a legacy player with access to capital and global growth ambitions. His background is high finance and I think it really shows through in this encounter. Legacy is becoming a very useful long-term partner of the industry and people like Tom are only going to make it more relevant in the future. We slay a lot of myths in this episode, so stay tuned. Saint John Henry Newman's prayer, "Radiating Christ," was a beloved favorite of Saint Teresa of Calcutta and her Sisters of Charity, who recited the prayer daily after Communion. They in turn inspired Tom Booth to express this prayer, almost word for word, as a gentle, guitar-driven meditation that will inspire today's generation.
Tom Booth says the inspiration for "Sacred Silence" arrived upon him during group prayer. "The priest stopped talking, I stopped playing music, and we all sat there in beautiful silence." This new Spanish translation by Iv?n D?az and Fr. Juan Sosa unites the wider Church community as we enter together into this profound experience with the God who dwells within.
In this episode, we are joined by our first guest of the pod; charity fundraiser, former bouncer and dear friend Thomas 'Fire in the' Booth. With him, we talk about the sights he's seen working security at music festivals and the dangers surrounding the substances often taken by the punters that attend. Our conversation then takes an unexpected cinematic turn as we discuss Boothy's theory of how the films Titanic and Inception are surprisingly linked, as well as debating the most powerful Roald Dahl character. Additionally, Hilton provides us with the theory that birds are, in fact, not real and have been replaced by the government with surveillance drones.
