Fantasies are by definition unspeakably wonderful and virtually unattainable. Living in a fantasy world can bring a smile to your face right now, but it's likely to end in something more like a nightmare. This week we will discuss the folly of seeking perfection in imperfect people; the “field of dreams” and what we will do to play there; one rocker's willingness to settle for a fantasy over the real thing; and the games we play with our children, and why we should let them be a little scary. Hal Hammons serves as preacher and shepherd for the Lakewoods Drive church of Christ in Georgetown, Texas. He is the host of the Citizen of Heaven podcast. You are encouraged to seek him and the Lakewoods Drive church through Facebook and other social media. Lakewoods Drive is an autonomous group of Christians dedicated to praising God, teaching the gospel to all who will hear, training Christians in righteousness, and serving our God and one another faithfully. We believe the Bible is God's word, that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, that heaven is our home, and that we have work to do here while we wait. Regular topics of discussion and conversation include: Christians, Jesus, obedience, faith, grace, baptism, New Testament, Old Testament, authority, gospel, fellowship, justice, mercy, faithfulness, forgiveness, Twenty Pages a Week, Bible reading, heaven, hell, virtues, character, denominations, submission, service, character, COVID-19, assembly, Lord's Supper, online, social media, YouTube, Facebook.

We chat about three such games in this episode. First, Anthony talks about his recent plays of Dinosaur Island (5:18), which was based on a movie that was based on a book! That counts, right? Second, Jenn shares about a light war game from Academy Games, 878 Vikings (17:41). Finally, Jason shared about a family weight game with a mischievous spirit, The Grimm Forest (27:18). We end with a discussion of how libraries could fill vital roles in our gaming lives. So, if you are looking for an alternative place to gather, play games, try games, and all of that good stuff, Jenn talks all about how your library could be a good resource (or, if it isn't how you could advocate and make your library a good resource). **Programming note - We did the best we could with a subopitmal sound setup, We apologize for that and hope you enjoy the show.

We're back with a discussion of Christian allegory and allusion! This episode, we're mostly focusing on how this applies to settings, and especially Peter's ongoing series of setting design blog posts, since the setting he's creating is designed with allegory in mind. First, though, we catch up a bit and talk about the games we've played! Jenny's a fan of The Grimm Forest, and talks it up quite nicely. Grant, meanwhile, has a lengthy story to tell about his five-year-old daughter, the card game she designed, and the No Thank You, Evil! "game" she ran for him. We also answer a question from Patreon supporter "Mister X", who asks: "What do you think about bennies? A great way to help balance those days with bad luck? A new outlet for powergamers to screw with the game? Another mechanic to clutter games with mechanic-creep?" (As promised, we suggest anyone interested in checking dice math try anydice.com, which is a bit opaque but very powerful.) Scripture: Isaiah 53:6-7, Matthew 26:26-29, John 1:29-34
