Caroline Spiegel is the CEO and cofounder of audio erotica platform, Quinn. Yes, you read right: Quinn is based on audio erotica, making it a "no visuals" porn site on a mission to help women orgasm and "finish first." Caroline studied Computer Science at Stanford (the interest in tech runs in the family -- her older brother is Snapchat CEO and cofounder, Evan Spiegel), before leaving during her senior year to start her company. She recently relocated from New York to Los Angeles where she can be found working on Quinn and hosting "The Quinn Show" podcast. I sat down with Caroline to discuss what compelled her to launch Quinn, which topics are most popular on the site (she dives into the "daddy energy vs. boyfriend" content), how it's informed by "the female gaze", and dealing with imposter syndrome as a young female founder. Don't you hate it when the app you don't really need to use to do something you don't actually need to do makes changes? It makes it just so difficult to do the thing. How can they even expect you to continue on like that?On a slightly more serious note, there's a sneeze somewhere in this episode that I was going to edit out so you wouldn't have to listen to it, but I forgot. So, SPOILER ALERT: You are going to hear me clear my entire nasal passage REALLY QUICKLY. If you're wearing headphones . . . well, just don't listen on headphones. Snapchat is one of the most valuable companies in the world, reportedly valued at $16 billion. Users watch videos on the platform 7 billion times a day, according to Fortune. The five-year-old social media app — which shares photos, videos and content that disappear after 24 hours — is one of the most popular among teenagers. 13-year-olds Elsbeth and Brooke are Snapchat obsessed. The eighth graders probably trade at least one hundred photos and videos each day on Snapchat. When they wake up in the morning and glance at their phones, 40 snaps await them. They can respond to all of them in under a minute. Yes – Brooke and Elsbeth can take 40 selfies in about 60 seconds flat. The girls say they can't live without it. In this episode of Fast Forward, Jo interviews Brooke and Elsbeth about why they love Snapchat, how they use it and why smartphone data plans have become the biggest fight between parents and teens. Elsbeth and Brooke also explain why they avoid Facebook, their wishlist for Snapchat CEO and cofounder Evan Spiegel and how to improve Jo's meager Snapchat score. Jo also interviews their mothers about the social media app's broader impact.
