Les nationalistes hindous veulent renommer les lieux qui portent un nom en lien avec le passé musulman de l'Inde.// "Citizen App", une application de surveillance controversée aux Etats-Unis.
The Citizen app, which, like Nextdoor, has been blamed for inciting vigilantism, recently launched a private service of on-call safety experts that users can contact 24/7 for help. Called “Protect,” this service monitors a user's location, connecting them with a Citizen employee who can decide to bump the situation up to a 911 call. We'll hear about the new frontier of safety apps and why critics say these crime and safety-reporting apps promote harassment, racial bias and over-surveillance.
citizen wants to hire users as reporters to create more content for the app, curtis sliwa opens his mouth about critical race theory for no reason at all.

The Citizen app is advertised as a public safety tool: a place where people can connect, inform, and “protect one another” from local crime. But VICE News' Motherboard got a hold of internal documents and messages that show how Citizen is pushing the boundaries of what an app-enabled vigilante force may be capable of. This episode was reported by Joseph Cox and Jason Koebler of VICE News' Motherboard, and produced by Adreanna Rodriguez. Read more of their reporting here. A look into the public safety app that is pushing boundaries and unfortunately making some mistakes along the way. The Citizen app recently put out a reward for the capture of a man who they believed started a brush fire in Los Angeles. The man that was singled out, didn't actually have anything to do with the fire. The app was also considering branching out into somewhat of a private security force for a monthly fee. Former employees and some experts say that this new aggressive direction could do more harm than good. Cyrus Farivar, investigative tech reporter at NBC News, joins us for a look into the Citizen app. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.com
Despite the fact that President of the Police Accountability Task Force Lightfoot and Candidate Lightfoot acknowledging the crimes committed by former Police Commander Jon Burge and his colleagues within the Chicago Police Department, Mayor Lightfoot's Department of Law is arguing that many of his crimes never occurred. This of course flies in the face of the City Council acknowledging these crimes and paying many of the victims for their suffering. This is part of a significant pattern as the actions of Mayor Lightfoot's administration vary greatly from the rhetoric she previously used to garner public attention. CJP has experienced this first hand as in her previous life before becoming a politician Lightfoot went off many times about the need for the city to engage in true transparency. This of course contradicts completely how her police department and the law department are responding to FOIA requests. We have no noticed a single difference between the Lightfoot, Emanuel, and Daley administrations related to transparency so I did not expect anything different from the Lightfoot administration when it came to police misconduct litigation. Lee Camp interviews the executive director of UnKoch My Campus Jasmine Banks. Banks takes us through the Koch agenda on college campuses across the country. The notorious oligarchs have used their billions of dollars to fund campus activists and academic departments with a view toward pushing free-market principles and undermining social welfare policies. UnKoch My Campus exposes the work of the industrialists. It has achieved some significant victories but still has a lot of work to do to kick Koch Industries out of academia in the US. Naomi Karavani reports on a new app for keeping track of local crimes. The Citizen App used to be called Vigilante, so you can guess where this is going. The app is controversially being used as a testing ground for a private security force in LA. This could be where our oligarchs want US policing to head. Anders Lee opens a new segment, "Going Into Labor." Alabama coal miners with the United Mine Workers of America have been on strike for months now, after their contract negotiations with Warrior Met failed. The miners accepted severe cuts in compensation a few years ago to save the company from collapse. Now that the company has bounced back, management is refusing their demands.

The Citizen app brands itself as a tool to report on local crimes and emergencies in your area. But it can also lead to false reporting as was the case last week, when a man was falsely accused of starting a fire in Pacific Palisades, after his picture appeared on the app. Guest: Boone Ashworth, Contributing Writer, WIRED Santa Clara County is one of four across the state that moved into the least restrictive yellow tier for reopening this week. Now, officials are mandating that businesses keep track of the vaccination status of employees. Providing people a guaranteed income with no questions asked has moved from a fringe notion to the mainstream with pilot projects popping up across the state. The possibility of a Guaranteed Basic Income program in Los Angeles County took a step forward Tuesday with a vote by the L.A. County Board of Supervisors. The politics of the coronavirus recovery takes center stage this week as Republicans will unveil their stimulus proposal just days before enhanced unemployment benefits are set to expire. The GOP favors a targeted bill to address this issue, but Democrats have rejected that wanting a comprehensive bill. Democrats favor a bill with a price tag closer to $3.5 trillion and Republicans are in at the $1 trillion range. We are also 100 days out from the 2020 election and have a few new polls showing that many do not approve of the way that President Trump has handled the response to the pandemic and show him trailing behind Joe Biden. Ginger Gibson, Deputy Washington Digital Editor at NBC News, joins us to break it all down. Next, the brand new "Get Wired" podcast takes a look into an app called Citizen, that asks you to report on the crime next door. Millions of users have logged on to the app to view, report, and comment on local incidents in their communities. The key thing is that if someone is close enough to the action, you can live-stream what is going on. This has led some to become stars on the app for broadcasting live. Anthony G. is one such person who gets to the scene of a crime to report, and he's only 12! Boone Ashworth, contributor to Wired, joins us for how Citizen got its start and how it looks to grow. For our inaugural episode of A4N — the "Artificial Neural Network News Network", a lighthearted podcast covering A.I. advances — we discuss real-time face recognition by London police, cheating in the famed Kaggle data-science competition, the landmark AlphaFold model for predicting protein structure from DNA, and how to become (or at least hire!) an A.I. researcher.Below's a detailed breakdown of the episode's four segments, with time stamps for all of the references that we mentioned.Segment 1 — Global headline news: Intrusive real-time face recognitionIn this segment, we discuss a controversial new approach by the Met police force in London, which is to use a (low-performing) facial-recognition system to flag “known criminals” in real-time in train stations.Segment host: Vince Petaccio IIReference news article from The Guardian (1:10)Citizen App (9:10)Segment 2 — “Sports”: Kaggle CheatingIn this segment, we introduce what the Kaggle data-science competition platform is and how folks (now formerly!) working at the well-known firm H2O.ai cheated to perform well. How unsportspersonlike!Segment host: Andrew VlahutinReference news article from Towards Data Science (14:38)Segment 3 — Health: AlphaFoldIn this segment, we introduce how DNA encodes proteins that do all of the work in our bodies. We then describe the new AlphaFold algorithm that crushes all of the existing approaches at predicting protein structure from DNA-sequence data. In the benchmark “CASP” competition, AlphaFold correctly predicted the structure of 58.1% of the proteins while the second-best algorithm correctly predicted 7.0% of them.Segment host: Grant BeyleveldReference blog post from DeepMind (26:31)CASP (30:05)AlphaGo documentary film (37:20)Segment 4 — Classifieds: How to become (or hire!) an A.I. ResearcherIn this segment, we list ways that you can find hidden-gem A.I. researchers to hire from within a high-demand field. We also list approaches for breaking into the field of A.I. if you come from a non-traditional background, e.g., you don't already have a PhD in machine learning or statistics.Segment host: JonHow to Hire Smarter than the Market (38:33)Getting Hired in AI as Self-Taught Researcher (40:39)Deep Learning book by Goodfellow et al.
