Dr. Shannon Kelly, an international triathlete and medical graduate, has a compelling story of overcoming significant health challenges on her journey to becoming an elite athlete. In 2019, during a routine cardiac screening required for a triathlon event in France, a rare blood clot was discovered near her heart. This condition, caused by a rare complication from oral contraceptive pills, could have led to a fatal pulmonary embolism if left untreated. Fortunately, timely diagnosis and treatment allowed her to recover fully and return to competition by October 2019This is an insightful chat and one that provides inner strength, resilance and drive.
