Guest: Jim Crutchfield, Nova Southeastern Head CoachThe 2022-23 was a storybook from start to finish for the Sharks and Crutchfield, as Nova Southeastern became the sixth team in NCAA Division II history to finish as undefeated national champions. Crutchfield's Sharks were dominant throughout the season, leading the nation in points-per-game (102.5) and scoring margin (+25.7). Crutchfield was honored as the Sunshine State Conference, Clarance Gaines, and NABC Coach of the Year.Crutchfield's combined record at Nova Southeastern and West Liberty is an amazing 495-82 (.858), which remains the highest career winning percentage in college basketball history among all NCAA coaches, including the likes of Kentucky's Adolph Rupp (3rd all-time), UCLA's John Wooden (7th) and Duke's Mike Krzyzewski (21st) who had spent at least 10 seasons as an NCAA head coach.Crutchfield is known for his pressing, uptempo style of play. During his tenure, he has led the Sharks to a record of 100-21, two NCAA Elite Eight appearances, two NCAA Regional Championships, a Sunshine State Conference regular season title, and an SSC Conference Tournament Championship.Prior to his arrival at NSU, Crutchfield spent 13 seasons as the head coach at West Liberty University in Wheeling, West Virginia. During his time at West Liberty, Crutchfield led the Hilltoppers to a 359-61 record, which is the highest career-winning percentage in college basketball history among all NCAA coaches who have spent at least 10 seasons as an NCAA head coach. Fresh off the heels of a wild Selection Monday for DII and DIII, we get ready for it all on our latest episode of In The Circle. Victor Anderson runs the show this week and talks with two coaches who'll be making history this weekend. First, we hear from 2022 Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year Julie LeMaire from Nova Southeastern. The Sharks won a share of their first-ever SSC championship and will battle Alabama-Huntsville in their Opening Round game in Montgomery, Alabama. Coach LeMaire reflects on his historic season, her senior leader Sydney Lageyre, and where she was when the Sharks punched their ticket to the tournament. Afterward, Victor returns to his roots and heads to Winter Park to chat with Rollins Head Coach Christine Roser-LeFevers. She led the Tars to another NCAA Tournament appearance and battled for the SSC Championship through the season's final game. Coach breaks down how the Tars got to this point, her ace Ashley Worrell, and the togetherness on this team. Next, Victor talks a little DIII with Eric Lopez and how a regional ended up with only two teams and what that could mean for Texas Lutheran. Finally, we do a deep dive into the Big Ten tournament with our correspondent and voice of Nebraska Softball, Nate Rohr.

Building with players from my era is always special because it allows me to get a different perspective on how they saw the game and their journeys. But I'm a student of the game and love soaking up knowledge from the real OG's of the game! We have one of those OG's tapping in with us! Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, this outstanding hooper spent his high school career at Sheepshead Bay High School where he made a name for himself after averaging 27.5 points a game and 10 assists as a senior! In 1990 he was apart of one of the most historic classes in NYC high school basketball history! After tearing up the PSAL, this hooper went on to play briefly at Clarion University in Pennsylvania before finding a home at St. Leo University in the sunshine state! At St. Leo's he went on to become one of the greatest players in school history! Holding the record for all time assist and steals, this baller led the Sunshine State Conference in assist 3 straight seasons! After a Hall Of Fame collegiate career, this brother has gone on to influence his community to a greater level as he continues to teach, coach, train, and pour knowledge into the youth! Coach Thompson shares his journey from HS Assistant Coach to coaching in the ACC, SoCon, SAC and Sunshine State Conference prior to becoming a the Head Coach of a NCAA Men's Basketball program. He's worked under Mike Madagan, Ben Miller, Seth Greenberg, Josh Schertz, Duggar Baccum, and Mike Dement over the course of his career. Coach Thompson has coached at the NCAA D1, D2, and D3 levels in addition to his HS coaching days during his time as an undergraduate student at Virginia Tech. He was hired as the HC at SUNY Canton in 2016 while still continuing to serve as an AC at Lincoln Memorial University during their postseason run to the NCAA D2 National Championship. After three years at SUNY Canton he accepted the same position at Emory & Henry College, a homecoming of sorts for the Southwest Virginia native. His father Rick is an accomplished coach as well, his Lebanon HS team won the 1991 VHSL State Championship and was named VHSL Coach of the Year - Rick serves as an AC for Ben at Emory & Henry.

Coach Agumagu shares his journey from leaving Nigeria at the age of three to move to Miami. FL and then becoming a NCAA DI Assistant Coach. He grew up in Miami and enjoyed it so much that he accepted a Preferred Walk-On spot at Barry University in nearby Miami Shores. The team had unprecedented success under Head Coach George “Butch” Estes. He helped the Buccaneers win a school record 26 games, a Sunshine State Conference regular season championship, the program’s first Regional Championship, as well as an Elite Eight berth for the first time in program history. In his three years with the Buccaneers, Agumagu had a hand in 70 wins and a plethora of AP Top 25 rankings. After graduating he stayed in South Beach accepting an Assistant Coaching position at St. Thomas University, an NAIA school in Miami Gardens, Florida. In his first year of coaching, Agumagu was the lead assistant for Head Coach Patrick Gayle. Agumagu assisted the Bobcats men’s basketball program to a 20-9 overall record, as well as multiple Top 25 ranks, including a ranking as high as fourth in 2016-17 with wins against NCAA DII Nova Southeastern (2) and eventual NAIA National Champions, Union College. His hard work and genuine relationships led to him being offered a DOBO position at NCAA DI Coppin State University under Juan Dixon. After just one season he was promoted to a full time Assistant Coach and has been a part of increased win totals in each of his four seasons on staff as well as tying a school record for most non-conference wins with four (Loyola Chicago, James Madison, East Carolina, and Cornell). Coach also talks about having their season cut short due to COVID19 and what it's like to work for a former NBA player who was drafted by - and played alongside Michael Jordan!

One early sign of success under Dr. Hanbury’s leadership is that NSU was designated with the Carnegie Foundation’s Community Engagement Classification in 2010, as there are more than 1,000 community engagement projects taking place at NSU. The university is one of only 35 to also be classified as a research university with “high research activity.” Dr. Hanbury holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University, an M.S. in Public Administration from Old Dominion University in Virginia, and a B.S. in Business Administration with a major in Public Administration from Virginia Tech. Dr. Hanbury has received numerous awards such as the 2015 South Florida Sun Sentinel Excalibur Award, the 2014 South Florida Business Journal Ultimate CEO award, 2005 American Diabetes Association Valor Award, 1996 Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Leadership Award, 1997 Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Leadership Award, 1977 Outstanding Young Man of America Award. Joby heads back to Palm Beach Atlantic University to interview Brian McMahon who is entering his 6th season as the Head Men's Soccer Coach at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Coach "Mac", as he is known, has over 20 years of collegiate coaching experience as a head coach. He won a NAIA Collegiate National Championship with Belhaven University before arriving at Palm Beach Atlantic University. In his 2nd season at the helm of the Sailfish Men's Soccer Program, Coach "Mac" led his team to the NCAA Elite 8 National Tournament appearance, losing a 5-4 thriller in the last second of the game to the eventual National Champions. In 2018 the Sailfish dropped just one game the entire season posting the highest winning percentage in NCAA DII. Coach "Mac" was named the Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year in consecutive seasons which was a first for the Sunshine State Conference. Brian has also received numerous other coaching honors including United Soccer Coaches National Coach of the Year and South Region Coach of the Year in different seasons, Palm Beach County Sports Commission Coach of the Year and NAIA Coach of the Year as well as serving on many national and regional soccer committees. If I didn’t have the support of my parents, I don’t think I would have gone this far. - Victor Furtado Victor is an incredibly talented swimmer hailing from São Paulo, Brazil. He began his career in the pool at ten, participating in 3 international championships before coming to the United States to compete with the Florida Institute of Technology men’s team in 2016. During his freshman season, Victor qualified for Nationals, going on to a Sunshine State Conference Championship, breaking the FIT record for the 100m freestyle, and competing in the finals for the 2017 Nationals his sophomore year. This past season, he broke his own record in the 100m freestyle (twice!), broke the 50m freestyle record for both Florida Tech and the Sunshine State Conference, and placed second at Nationals in both the 50m and 100m races. Victor’s love of swimming came from supporting his father as he recovered from an injury with pool exercise, and this support has been extended back to Victor by his entire family, guiding his performance and ethics as an athlete. Kathy and Victor hone in on what it looks like to support your athlete unconditionally and give your fullest as an athletic competitor. He plans to perform at 100% and win a national championship in his upcoming senior season.
