When inquiries slow down or leads don't convert, most interior designers assume they need better marketing. But in many cases, the real issue isn't visibility—it's sales. In this episode, Kimberley Seldon is joined by returning guest and marketing strategist Daniela Furtado to unpack what a healthy sales funnel actually looks like in a design business. Together, they dig into the real numbers behind inquiries, close rates, and response times—so you can pinpoint exactly where opportunities are leaking out of your process. Daniela explains why looking at sales data without emotion leads to better decisions, how a surprisingly high close rate can signal underpricing, and why designers need to reclaim leadership in the sales conversation. She also shares her proven intake call script, designed to qualify clients faster and book better-fit projects with confidence. If you want clarity instead of guesswork—and a sales process that supports growth without burnout—this episode shows you exactly what to fix next. What you'll learn in this episode: - What realistic sales conversion rates look like at different stages of a design business - How to track inquiries and identify patterns in your sales funnel - Why emotion-free data leads to smarter, calmer decisions - When a high close rate is actually a warning sign of underpricing - How to qualify clients faster by leading the sales conversation - Why response time can make or break a deal - Creative ways designers are using sales data to generate new revenue streams Ready to build a business that supports your talent? Extreme Makeover: Foundation Inspection (Matthew 4:1–11) We live in a culture obsessed with image, improvement, and quick transformation. But Jesus' version of an "extreme makeover" begins not with a spotlight, but with solitude. In this first message of the Lenten series, we follow Jesus into the wilderness, where hunger, silence, and temptation reveal what truly holds a life together. Through the three temptations—appetite, performance, and control—we are invited to examine the foundations of our own lives. What sustains us when we are empty? Do we seek approval to secure our identity? What do we worship when no one is looking? Lent is not about surface change. It is about Spirit-led formation. Join us as we begin this journey of deep, honest transformation—allowing God to rebuild us from the inside out.

In this Ash Wednesday message, Rev. Dr. Jefferson M. Furtado reflects on the early days of the COVID-19 shutdown — a moment when the world unexpectedly paused. In that quiet stillness, we were confronted with our limits, our vulnerabilities, and our shared humanity. Ash Wednesday offers us that same sacred pause. "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return" are not words of shame, but grounding. They remind us that we are human, that we are not in control, and that beneath our busyness lies a deeper invitation from God. This sermon invites us into the Lenten journey — not as a season of spiritual performance, but as a time for honest reflection, humility, and renewal. In the pause, we discover something both sobering and hopeful: We are dust. We are loved. And even from dust, God is creating something new.

Stories shape who we are—individually and together. In this sermon from Nehemiah 8:1–12, we explore how transformation deepens when people gather to listen, understand, tell the truth, and practice joy in community. After the walls of Jerusalem are rebuilt, the people do not rush forward. Instead, they gather around God's Word, rediscover their shared story, weep honestly, and are invited into renewed joy. This sermon reflects on the power of storytelling, the limits of guilt in the life of faith, and why truth—held with grace—can open a path toward reconciliation and renewed community. Drawing connections between Scripture, personal memory, and modern truth-and-reconciliation movements, this message invites us to consider how listening deeply to one another becomes a spiritual practice—and how joy, not shame, sustains faithful life. Transformation happens one story at a time. One gathering at a time. One act of shared grace at a time.

What does renewal really look like when a community is rebuilding—after loss, disruption, or discouragement? In this sermon, we turn to one of the most overlooked chapters in Scripture: Nehemiah 3. At first glance, it reads like a list of names and tasks. But beneath the surface, it tells a powerful story about how God's work unfolds—not through heroes or grand gestures, but through ordinary people showing up, taking responsibility, and tending the part of the work placed right in front of them. Drawing from a childhood memory of a church wall that collapsed during a storm, reflections on the quiet faith of Howard Thurman, and the witness of the builders of Jerusalem's wall, this sermon invites us to reconsider what faithfulness looks like in the life of the church. Renewal does not begin when everything is fixed. It begins when people are willing. This message is an invitation to notice where God is calling you to be present—to relationships, ministries, and small acts of faithfulness that often go unseen but hold the community together. Everyone has a brick in the story. The question is whether we are willing to pick up the one entrusted to us.

We live in a world carefully designed for comfort—but what happens when comfort begins to dull our attentiveness to suffering, injustice, and need? In this sermon on Nehemiah 1, we explore the sacred tension between comfort and calling, privilege and compassion, safety and solidarity. "A Holy Discontent" invites us to consider the kind of discomfort that does not come from guilt or anxiety, but from love—a quiet, persistent awareness that something is not as it should be. Through the story of Nehemiah, an exile living with privilege inside an empire, we see how God's work of renewal often begins not with plans or strategies, but with a heart willing to be moved. Nehemiah allows the pain of others to interrupt his comfort. He weeps, prays, and listens long enough for grief to become discernment. His story challenges us to ask hard questions: What have we learned to scroll past? Whose pain have we managed rather than carried? Where might God be stirring a holy discontent within us—not to burden us, but to awaken us? This sermon invites listeners to slow down, pay attention, and trust that before God rebuilds walls or systems, God rebuilds hearts. Holy discontent is not the end of the story—it is the beginning of faithful action, one prayer, one life, one step at a time.

Patronato do SciCast: 1. Patreon SciCast 2. Apoia.se/Scicast 3. The Film Stage Show
Emulsion Ep. 14 - Filipe Furtado on Brazilian Cinema

The Film Stage Show

With exposure to Brazilian cinema being so pitiful, I thought it would be past due to host both an episode and screening that put a bit of spotlight on their rich cinematic history. One of my favorite films I've seen in recent years is Carlos Reichenbach's Movie Dementia, which is both the cinema-induced madness its title suggests and a gritty view of national disaffection circa the 1980s––think Godard's Pierrot Le Fou peppered with more gritty realism and a greater dose fantasy. I'll be showing it at the Brooklyn Center for Theater Research on Wednesday, August 27th, for which tickets are now on-sale: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/amnesiascope-filme-demencia-tickets-1579316059849?aff=oddtdtcreator There is quite literally nobody I'd rather discuss that film, Reichenbach's corpus, and Brazilian cinema than Filipe Furtado, whose work as a critic has been a north star for myself and countless cinephiles. I was glad to have this discussion with Filipe, who called in from São Paulo. I hope you enjoy it and can make the screening on the 27th.
