Welcome to Musicians Tip Jar where we talk about musicians and money. Where we think dreams are made of the joy you find in all the little things. I'm Chris Webb, joined by my co-host and the guy always bragging about his little things, Dave Tamkin.Today we talk about the easiest way to live the life of your dreams simply by starting with the end in mind.Quote:Finding balance with kids and a music career is hard but if you want to make it work, you find a way to make it work - StolieUpon its founding in 1979, Swallow Hill Music offered music lessons and community performances. Originally as a suburbanization of the Denver Folklore Center, volunteers formed what is today's Swallow Hill Music non-profit following the closing of the Center, with the straightforward mission of bringing “the joy of music to life, every day.” https://swallowhillmusic.org/It's often easier in our lives to find excuses why NOT to pursue our dreams instead of why we SHOULD. What if the reason for that confusion in our psyche is because we aren't clear on where we are going. Where do we WANT to go!? What is your desired destination!? Please enjoy the second half of our conversation with singer AND songwriter, grown-up AND child entertainer, Stolie…Action:Take our favorite step from the Financial scale, G for Growth, and envision your ideal life. Get all of the senses involved and let that place live as your destination. Then trust that the route will be there to show you what turn is next.More on Stolie: www.Stolie.comAs always, Thanks for joining us and remember there is already enough for everyone, you just need to know how to get it. Until next time, on behalf of Dave Tamkin and myself, Chris Webb. Stay happy, healthy and wealthy. You don't have to have every turn planned out if you know where you want to go, your path will show you the way.

“I could never fail to marvel at guests like our current one in February Anastasia Rose. Like some or many of our guests she exhibits enormous talent and ability not only in more than one endeavor but seems to do so while possessed of integrity, an engaging temperament, and thus an ideal guest for our podcast as well as inspiration to others.Like me she is both a musician and neurodivergent but quite unlike me she has chosen to do everything in music from playing wind instruments, teaching and leading band, playing guitar as a singer-songwriter, playing in a punk band all in addition to being a pianist (and I am sure some other things I can't think of at the moment). Moreover, she is also a music therapist and has her own business helping people of the most diverse psychological needs and backgrounds. I feel something of her spirit, in its commitment to her practice and eclecticism in styles, bodes well for our future more generally and I certainly enjoyed hearing her discuss her journey.” Bio NURODIVERGENT, MUSICIAN, POET, ARTIST & MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCATE Originally hailing from Texas, Anastasia Rose has found a new home in the greater Denver metropolitan area. Her music combines multiple genres to encompass a nostalgic yet nouveau style with influence from Florence + The Machine, Elliott Smith, Death Cab For Cutie, Regina Spektor, and Ingrid Michaelson. Anastasia recently released her first solo single, Cosmic Love, a three song album which was written, performed, and produced by her. From a young age, Anastasia took to music performance, composition, and education in a virtuosically natural fashion. She was singing before she was talking and playing the piano before she knew how to make friends. Music was always there for her and thus it was bound to become her passion and career as an adult. She is the CEO and primary therapist for Creative Remedies, LLC -- a therapy and lesson business aiming to offer therapeutic music experiences and education to all who seek it across the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, neurology, socioeconomic class, religion, and more. Anastasia's music career is eclectic. She has performed with ensembles such as the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps and Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps which showcased and competed in front of upwards of 20,000 people at venues like the Lucas Oil Stadium (home of the Indianapolis Colts), Sports Authority Field (home of the Denver Broncos), and MetLife Stadium (home of the New York Giants and New York Jets). Anastasia has also performed for various venues and festivals around the Denver metro area such as Herman's Hideaway, Your Mom's House, the People's Fair, Swallow Hill Music, and the Broomfield Summer Concert Series. She has also been part of ensembles that have opened for artists and bands across genres such as Emma Back, Younger Than Neil, and Write Minded. Episode 034 of *The Upful LIFE Podcast* welcomes vocalist KIM DAWSON to the show for an important discussion. A chat as necessary as it is enlightening, with memories uncomfortable and messages inspiring. Kim Dawson is currently a solo artist on Eddie Roberts' label Color Red, a co-frontwoman of Roberts' quasi-supergroup Matador Soul Sounds, a go-to singer for any number of collectives, tribute shows, sit-ins and such. Most recently she released the R&B single "Try" with Wil Blades, and sings her heart out on "Good Thang" with Crushed Velvet & the Velveteers, on Alan Evans' own Vintage League Music. However, I invited her on the podcast to discuss important matters beyond her fantastic performances and collaborations. KIM DAWSON - intro @ 11:30, interview @ 16:00 *apologize for any minor sound issues or clicks during the interview... trust I did my best to minimize the annoyance*  Kim has been a presence within the jam/funk music community for a long time, and a mainstay on the Front Rage scene. She's an educator with Swallow Hill Music, where she works with aspiring young singers; she also mentors young women of color in the Denver metro area. Ms. Dawson was kind enough to give us an hour and a half of the medicine we need, in a wide ranging discussion of her journey as a Black American, a female of color in the performing arts, Black music heritage in the jam scene, her own experiences as a youth and just exactly the moment when she really learned what time it was with race in America. We get a peek into her reality as it pertains to intermarriage, her current situation in Denver juxtaposed with growing up in Oklahoma, and so much more. But of course, we kick things off talkin' music... because, well, that's still how we do. Thanks to the divine Kim Dawson for her gracious time & the vibe! Please listen to her remarkable patience, and compassion in speaking to the people and our greater music community from her heart, as we so dearly need it.   Vibe Junkie JAM of the Week The Roots featuring Jill Scott "You Got Me" (goth arrangement LIVE from 9:30 Club, Washington DC - 2002)   EMAIL the SHOW! Harry grew up singing and playing a series of instruments – from the piano to the clarinet, ukulele, baritone uke, and, in college, a six-string guitar. Philadelphia's lively folk scene provided the setting for Harry's first ventures into public singing. From there, friendships with Dick Weissman and Roger Abrahams fostered a growing interest in Anglo-American folk music. In 1960, needing a break from his studies (preparing for an architectural career), Harry traveled out to the Rocky Mountains for some skiing. He found a job at "The Holy Cat" in Georgetown, as a dishwasher, busboy, waiter, bartender, janitor, and – if there was a lull in the work at night – he could sing in the bar. There he met Hal Neustaedter – owner of "The Exodus," a folk club in Denver – who suggested that he look into starting a folklore center in Denver. With further encouragement from Izzy Young, owner of the first and (then) only Folklore Center, in New York's Greenwich Village, Harry opened the Denver Folklore Center in March 1962. Harry founded Swallow Hill Music in 1979. He was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
