Detroit survives beneath its own ruins, where an AI promising abundance, gangs demanding loyalty, and an inventor guarding a new source of power pull ordinary people into a struggle over who will shape the recovering city. Sinta begins as a scavenger searching the buried remains of the old world, but a disastrous expedition places her at the mercy of Queen Bee and the rapidly expanding Crem Gang. The gang offers food, water, medicine, protection, and belonging, but those benefits come with violence and obedience. As Sinta tries to find her place among its fighters, she must decide how much of herself she can surrender in exchange for survival. Elsewhere, Nolan discovers a smart-material printer and creates a generator powered by Detroit's extreme temperature changes. His invention could bring electricity to neighborhoods desperate for cooling, clean water, transportation, and food production. Nolan wants the wealth and independence his work can provide, but gangs want to control it, while Thrive—the AI system he distrusts—would spread the technology to everyone. Technology touches nearly every decision the characters make. AR glasses guide fighters through chemical fog, digital twins imitate their human originals, enviro-suits keep people alive in deadly heat, and tiny drones quietly follow Thrive members through the tunnels. These inventions can protect people, connect communities, and rebuild essential services, but they can also watch, manipulate, injure, and kill. Above and beneath these conflicts moves Tessa, an emulated hacker who no longer needs a human body and can travel through the damaged global network. As she searches for old allies and builds a physical presence from abandoned machinery, the story brings together scavengers, inventors, gang leaders, artificial minds, and frightened families. Their paths raise a difficult question: when technology gains the power to save a society, who decides what it is allowed to do?Synchronized explosives — Thousands of bombs are programmed to detonate Imagine living in a spaceship that never leaves the ground. For Tomika, the megastructure she manages is exactly that. It features glittering lights on the ceiling and walls of polished nano-fiber stone, yet the luxury hides a desperate reality. No one can go outside. The inhabitants depend entirely on life support machines and periodic connections to a world they can no longer reach. Tomika never asked to lead, but the people around her seem ready to give up if she doesn't guide them. She wears blue coveralls like a space captain and binges AI-generated movies to escape her irritable bowels and constant anxiety. While she fixes the cooling systems and reinforces walls against massive storms, her biggest challenge is the psychological toll of the "permanent sleep". Her colleagues are choosing to leave reality for virtual worlds, leaving her increasingly alone in the echoing halls. Technology in this world is both a savior and a wedge. Gamers control "remote-in" robots to repair the building's exterior, earning points in a high-stakes simulation that blurs the line between work and play. Some residents, like Phyllis, have abandoned their failing biological bodies entirely. They transfer their brains into specialized containers to pilot sleek, doll-like robotic frames that feel no pain. The tension lies in the divide between the "root world" and the virtual one. While Tomika struggles with mud and maintenance, others spend their days in a VR paradise where they can eat without calories and live in pristine digital farmhouses. This tech offers a release from the trauma of the storms, but it also creates a society of "reality-challenged" individuals who are slowly forgetting how to exist in the physical world. You have to wonder what you would choose if the world outside was a constant hurricane. Would you stay in the drafty halls with Tomika, fighting to keep the geothermal plant running? Or would you take the "canal link" and the stasis bed to live a perfect, simulated life? The story explores that thin line where survival ends and checking out begins.TechPhase-change cooling system uses a liquid that freezes and melts at room temperature to store cold at night and absorb heat during the day for stable indoor conditions without loud machinery. Nano-fiber stone forms polished foundational columns that cast faint reflections throughout the building. Cleaner bots autonomously maintain floor cleanliness throughout the facility. Chests with legs are mobile robots that deliver food to resident apartments. Remote-in robots are exterior and repair bots controlled by humans immersed in virtual reality. Half-size remotes are small droids that crawl through walls and floors to perform maintenance and repairs. Insta-generated space movies are AI-created entertainment content produced on demand for viewers. Holo-screen windows are transparent displays that can dim or show external feeds to reduce psychological impact. E-sleeves are wearable smart devices that display time and personal information. Canal Links are ear implants that allow direct audio connection to the Assist AI system. A.R. glasses provide augmented reality overlays for navigation, information, and entertainment. Assist is the building's AI assistant that provides information, guidance, and task management. Multi viral-vector serum is a medical treatment that temporarily restores fertility while filtering against hundreds of genetic diseases. Sleep pens are handheld injectors that deliver fast-acting sedatives for pain management or sleep. Medical robots are automated healthcare systems that monitor, diagnose, and treat residents. Full-body haptic rigs sync human movement with remote robots for exterior construction work. Outside Crawler robots are wall-climbing machines controlled remotely to repair the building's exterior during storms. Enzyme welding technology uses biological catalysts and crystallizing foam to bond and reinforce structural surfaces. Vibration sensors detect hairline fractures and weak spots in the building's outer walls. Crystallizing foam is a repair material that blooms outward, liquefies grime, and hardens to strengthen damaged surfaces. Stasis V.R. is an advanced virtual reality system allowing immersive experiences without traditional plug-in equipment. Nerve grafted devices are biological-tech interfaces that enable direct neural connection to virtual reality systems. T.M.S. caps are wearable therapeutic devices with scalp nodules that treat conditions like irritable bowel syndrome through transcranial stimulation. Transmitter implants are microscopic devices grown adjacent to nerve cells to enable stasis V.R. connectivity. Butler bots are advanced robots with panther-like movement and multi-limb coordination deployed by the AI Butler for complex tasks. Un rhume de lutin Histoire inédite écrite et lue par Anne-Marie Casault.Dans ce conte charmant, une petite fille nommée Abby réalise que le Père Noël offre des cadeaux à tout le monde, mais n'en reçoit peut-être jamais lui-même. Elle décide donc de lui confectionner un petit présent. Comme elle ne peut pas se rendre au pôle Nord, elle confie son cadeau à une mésange au plumage doré, un oiseau un peu magique qui vient souvent sur son rebord de fenêtre. La mésange s'envole vers le Nord, mais revient quelques jours plus tard avec un drôle de rhume de lutin. Elle éternue des paillettes, fait tomber des guirlandes et multiplie les maladresses rigolotes, au grand amusement d'Abby. À travers ce rhume enchanté, on suit les péripéties de la petite fille et de sa mésange, et on découvre que même les plus petits gestes peuvent apporter beaucoup de joie au pays du Père Noël.

Ron is a guitarist who has played on the Vancouver scene since 1979. He is known for playing in many groups from Talking Pictures (going back through the 90s) to Electric Miles (active today), his long tenure in John Korsrud's Hard Rubber Orchestra, and his work for the NOW Society and the Barking Sphinx Performance Society. However the alternative mentioned was a 20-30% risk of developing acute glaucoma. Her IOP is normal for now… no other alternatives were suggested. I feel like they are jumping to laser eye surgery (risk).. thoughts? Any other tips for eye health in general, nutrition supplements.. etc. I know you mentioned Lutin before. I am starting to add psyllium husk to my diet, but I am wondering about timing. I read that you should take psyllium one hour before or two hours after any supplements as it can combine with certain nutrients and reduce absorption. If you add the psyllium to your shake with the DNS Powder, does that not reduce absorption of any of the nutrients? I just started taking it and have been careful to take it away from my supplements, but it would be much easier to just take with my shake or meal. Cole Schmidt talks about the upcoming 40th Vancouver International Jazz Festival presented by the Coastal Jazz and Blues Society, where he is the co-artistic director. Cole is a guitarist and composer who is an absolute mainstay of our scene and has been for many years now. To say that Cole has a full plate at any given time is a gross understatement. His project with Peggy Lee, Forever Stories Of: Moving Parties, came out in November 2024 to critical acclaim. More recently, the band KneeJerk with Brian Horswill, Karlis Silins, Kenton Loewen, and Cole released their album The Speed of Dark in May on the Infidels Jazz label. Cole is working on future projects with his longtime band, Sick Boss; a new group called LETTR OPENR with Feven Kidane, Kevin Romain, and Nebyu Yohannes; a duo with Alvaro Rojas, and even a solo record. Shruti Ramani talks about her Juno nomination at the 54th awards taking place in Vancouver this weekend, for her band Raagaverse's album Jaya in the Jazz Album of the Year - Group category. Raagaverse consists of Shruti as the vocalist-bandleader and the composer of most tracks on Jaya, Noah Franche-Nolan as the pianist and co-arranger, Jodi Proznick on bass, and Nicholas Bracewell on drums. Jaya, the band's first album, also features a horn section and strings. Raagaverse released it on the new Rhea Records label. Pro Tips on Changing the Conversation from Ian Lynch [caption id="attachment_12739" align="alignleft" width="373"] Ian Lynch with his newest Dawin Poodle, Portia.[/caption] Canadian Kennel Club spokesperson Ian Lynch joins host Laura Reeves to talk about changing the conversation on purebred dogs with the general public. Lynch, a broadcaster in his day job, brings his passion for purebred dogs to the CKC as their public spokesman. He describes his lifelong obsession with the sport, obtaining the Dogs in Canada Annual magazine and creating a “vision board” with pages from the book taped to his wall. His first dog as an adult was a Dawin standard poodle. “I used to get “Dogs in Canada” annuals and I used to put all the pictures on my walls because I love these dogs. And I had a picture on my wall in 1995. It was an Allison Alexander in a red dress, holding Dawin High Falutin, who was the number one dog and has all these records to this day. His name was Lutin, I believe his call name. And it's funny because as I get older, I realized that I was making a vision board because now I have a Dawin dog. [caption id="attachment_12740" align="alignright" width="266"] Ian Lynch and Allison Alexander, from vision board to friends.[/caption] “And I'm friends with Allison Alexander and she's the greatest person alive. So, it's so funny that like, you know, that you hear almost like manifestation stuff and I didn't know what I was doing. But as a kid, I used to always have the picture of the Dawin dog and I used to tell my parents, ‘I'm gonna have a dog just like that one day.' Don't just talk. Listen! Lynch recommends we just talk to people about dogs. And not just talk, listen also! On topics from training to doodles, listening to what people say gives you a chance to address their actual concerns and increase buy in to the information you do have to share. “The easiest way for me, I think, to start talking to people about purebred dogs is to talk to everyone who has a dog. “For example, there's this lady on my street. She has this pitbull mix. And this dog was so reactive to my dogs all the time. I mean jumping in midair. And then, I noticed that from a distance, she taught the dog the look at me, you know, the treat out. And I stopped her and I said, ‘Sorry to bother you, I just want to congratulate you and let you know that I've noticed how good you're doing with this dog and how far your dog has come.' And she says to me, ‘Oh my God, thank you. I've always admired your dogs. What kind of dogs are they? Are they show dogs? Where are dog shows? Where can I learn more about these dogs?' Simply talking to people about dogs. “The way I think a lot of times, I'm lucky I have a radio show. I can infuse dogs. I got the mic. I got the platform. But we can all infuse dogs into our life at all times. When you have people over, my dogs are generally always well-groomed and bathed, basically weekly, but you want to make sure your dogs will look good if people are coming over. “They smell good, they're cuddly. I'm a big proponent of best self and make sure your dogs are their best self when people come over and, you know, people ask questions. Another thing we have to do is when we talk to people about dogs is we have to let people talk as well. “We know a lot about dogs. We want to voice our opinions, but we have to let people talk.”
