While we're off on vacation this week, we decided to do something a little different for this week's show.If you checked out last month's Weather Report, you probably heard that Andrea recently had the opportunity to participate in a multimedia installation at LA's National Museum of the Aftermath called “California Gothic” that dives into the question of what Los Angeles, and the lives of those who live there, will look like after collapse.The project is the brainchild of Gina Delvac and James Kim, two of the most creative minds working in audio storytelling today. For “California Gothic,” they commissioned audio creators, journalists, writers, and artists (Andrea included) to imagine a future where their favorite place in Los Angeles no longer exists, and then to create a speculative audio story about it — short prose, an intimate fiction scene, an ambient piece, or something surreal that doesn't fall into any of those. They ask: What memories reverberate from this place? What memories can still be heard? What have we lost?While “California Gothic” was (at the time anyway) a one-off event, we were so moved by the vision and creativity of these experimental pieces – which range from sound collages, to surrealist scifi, to letters from future selves – that we thought it would make for a sweet summer treat to feature them here on CUJO.Today's episode features six of those pieces, each imagining a different place in Los Angeles as remembered in a post-apocalyptic future. But, of course, right after he's confirmed as Attorney General, he can simply issue another memo creating the $1.8 billion cop-beaters' fund again. But there's one thing that Todd Blanche seems to have forgotten: a federal judge, who presided over the lawsuit that Trump brought against his own IRS looking for a $10 billion payday, said that Trump's lawsuit was filed in bad faith, filed for an improper purpose, was an act of collusion, and was executive self-dealing designed to manufacture judicial cover for an unlawful giveaway. During the entire special session of the Georgia General Assembly, Democrats managed - time and time again - to withstand GOP efforts to offer property tax cuts while putting the burden on local electeds to find ways to make up the funding gap such cuts would put on county and municipal budgts. One such locally elected official - Jimmy Furst, Chamblee city councilman - provided his thoughts in an op/ed for the Atlanta Journal Constitution - and of course, so did I.Meanwhile the chief (we're told) reason for the special session was a looming July 1st deadline to eliminate QR codes from Georgia ballots. A half-measure with no Democratic party input sought to put the task off until 2028 but also mandating hand recounts for the top two races on any ballot. Oy!- - - My hometown (Grovetown, Georgia) has changed a lot since I was a kid in the 1980s. When I was a kid, we had a former Klansman as our fire department chief. Today, Grovetown's a racially diverse thriving bedroom community of 10,000-plus with Black city council members. A former city councilperson and mayoral candidate - Ceretta Smith - is now the Democratic party nominee for Georgia's 12th Congressional district. I got to know more about the former US Army medic and national union leader about what drives her to continue to want to serve her country.

Senator Lindsey Graham is everywhere on TV promoting a bill he claims would end sanctuary cities and jail officials who obstruct federal immigration enforcement. But Tara isn't buying it.

Donald Trump's dirty DOJ leadership is engaged in a shell game, a game of three-card monty, a game of misdirection designed to dupe the American people.DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) is a component of the Department of Justice that issues advisory opinions regarding the legality or illegality of conduct by federal government officials, attorneys, law enforcement, and military operations. Historically, OLC has tried to do its work in good faith, and in accordance with the law and the Constitution. But that is not the case under the current corrupt DOJ leadership.OLC is now offering indefensible legal opinions - for example, trying to give top cover to the Trump administration when it unlawfully enters Venezuela and takes into custody its president and first lady. Indeed, virtually every respected military law expert recognizes that this was an illegal operation. The same is true for the unlawful, deadly strikes on small Venezuelan boats in international waters.OLC also rendered an opinion of how fake US attorney Lindsay Halligan could continue to sign official court documents as "United States Attorney" even though a federal judge had ruled that she was unlawfully and unconstitutionally in that position.But there's also supposed to be another safeguard against, in particular, DOJ attorney misconduct. The office of professional responsibility (OPR) is supposed to investigate allegations or suspected incidents of DOJ attorney misconduct and misconduct by law enforcement officers, like FBI agents. However, the head of OPR was wrongfully removed from the job months ago, and there is no indication that there even is a current, legitimate head of the OPR. This corrupt shell game that Trump's dirty DOJ leadership is playing - having OLC issue memos to give wrongdoers top cover, and then neutering OPR so that the attorneys who engage in misconduct will not be held accountable - is destroying the legitimacy of the DOJ.To those of us who spent decades serving the American people at the Department of Justice, we see exactly what they're doing. All of the American people also need to see this for what it is - abject corruption at the DOJ.
