In the Key of Latin Jazz

WUCF's January artist for ‘In the Key of Latin Jazz' is Dred Scott - a multi-instrumentalist who has cut his teeth on both coasts. Referred to as the ‘maestro of mayhem', his restless and frenetic energy is intertwined with his passion. He's collaborated with Liza Minnelli, composed for the film “Home” - featuring Woody Allen, Rosie Perez, Liam Neeson and more – recorded eleven albums as a leader and performed on over fifty others. His latest work is a testament to the enduring power of Latin jazz and an exploration of his love for the genre. It is vibrant, playful and rich – it is everything we needed!

Then our Agent of Chaos, Billy Gil, is here with another installment of Bet The Senate and this time they've got a real ringer. This Senator has been putting smiles on the faces of our friends above the border for more than 30 years, and he's got a big pick for this week's game between Notre Dame and USC, which may or may not be important. That leads us into a discussion about the implications of this week's college football games, and whether we could see a three-loss team in the playoff. Then, Rosie joins us to discuss her experience on the broadcast for the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight, the Serrano-Taylor fight that preceded it, her nerves while making her Broadway debut and working with Billy Crystal. Happy Thanksgiving week, friends! Join The Art of Kindness podcast live from You Gotta Believe's 10th Anniversary Fundraiser in NYC for older foster kids. Host Robert Peterpaul chats with: Emmy-nominee Rosie Perez, Sherri Saum (The Fosters, Locke & Key), Charlene Tilton (Dallas), Kate Reinders (High School Musical the Musical: The Series, Wicked), Tony Award-winner J. Harrison Ghee (Some Like It Hot), meteorologist Janice Huff (NBC 4 New York), Jenna Leigh Green (Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Wicked), Ta'Nika Gibson (Ragtime), Anika Larsen (Almost Famous, Beautiful), and hosts Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley Jackson. You Gotta Believe (YGB) exists for one reason... to work toward the day when no young person leaves foster care without the unconditional lifetime commitment of a family. Our goal is to find youth permanent families so that they have the support system they need to live safely and to their highest potential. You Gotta Believe is a national organization based in New York City that focuses exclusively on finding permanent families for older youth in foster care. Since 1995, YGB has worked tirelessly to ensure that no child ages out of the foster care system without the support, love, and stability of a family. Today, nearly 400,000 children are in foster care in the U.S., with around 20,000 aging out annually. Without the stability of a family, these young people face higher risks of homelessness, unemployment, and other hardships. YGB is committed to changing that reality. Since 1995, YGB has trained thousands of parents, licensed over 750 families, and facilitated nearly 400 adoptions of older youth, offering lifelong support to ensure family permanence. The Eagles were working on losing that game for the first half and let's just say they were losing when you fell asleep and woke up to a win last Thursday.   Ty Johnsons Buffalo Bills beat the undefeated Chiefs in front of a sold out home crowd   Raven's lost to the Steelers on Sunday 18-16 what happened?  Then in a crazy turn of  weather events  Steelers lost to the Browns on Thursday 24-19 at Cleveland do you think it was the snow?  Today: We have a classic match up the Commanders vs. the Cowboys at 1:00p, hopefully the Commies can pull out a win and keep the losing streak up for America's Team    Eagles take on the LA Rams at 8:20 and it should be a good match up    Monday the Ravens take on the Chargers, you will be sure to catch the first half of that game.  Mike Tyson took home 20 million dollars in a fight that was interesting to say the least, he was able to stay on his feet, showed his bare ass to millions of people on Live TV and retired on his terms. We were all hoping for a knockout but lets face it, it was a huge promotional gig, that had Rosie Perez and Cedric the Entertainer commentating on the fights.    There were 4 fights on the card two of them were good, and legitimate fights, the other two which bookended the evening were just two people acting like boxers, and the the finale was just that father time collecting on an overdue debt. The best I can say is it united the country for a bit, but wholly underwhelming.  Women's NCAA Basketball is back and heating up, do yourself a favor and look out for some great upcoming match ups and WATCH:  like Notre Dame beating USC 74-61 the SC Gamecocks taking on UCLA and of course UCONN. Dana and Tom with returning guest, Andrew Corns (The Revisionist Almanac), and new guest, Sean Phillips (Math Teacher Movies) revisit Do the Right Thing (1989): written and directed by Spike Lee, score by Bill Lee, starring Spike Lee, Rosie Perez, Danny Aiello, Giancarlo Esposito, and John Turturro.Plot Summary: "Do the Right Thing" is a film set in the scorching summer heat of Brooklyn. It's a story that captures a single day in the lives of a neighborhood's residents, showcasing their joys, struggles, and the simmering tensions that come to a head. At the heart of the narrative is Sal's Famous Pizzeria, a local institution run by Sal and his sons, Vito and Pino. As the day unfolds, we witness a mosaic of characters—Mookie, the pizza delivery man; Radio Raheem, whose boombox blasts Public Enemy's "Fight the Power"; Buggin' Out, who demands representation on the pizzeria's Wall of Fame; and Da Mayor, the neighborhood's elder statesman.Through a series of interactions, misunderstandings, and confrontations, the heat and the bubbling racial tension reach a boiling point, culminating in a tragic act of violence that forces the community to confront the complexities of race, identity, and justice. "Do the Right Thing" is a raw, unflinching look at the choices we make and the consequences that follow, urging viewers to reflect on what it truly means to "do the right thing."Guests:Andrew CornsHost of the Revisionist Almanac@revalmanac on IG, X, YouTube, TikTok, and LetterboxdPreviously on Gaslight (ep. 210)Sean PhillipsCreator of Math Teacher Movies@mathteachermovies on IG and Letterboxd, @mathteachermov1 on XCo-Host of The Guy at the Movies podcast with Joe and Sean or @guyatthemovies on YouTube.Chapters:00:00 Introductions and Guest Introductions01:47 Getting to Know - Sean Phillips06:27 Cast and Recognition for Do the Right Thing08:55 Relationship(s) with Do the Right Thing12:45 Is This the Most Relevant American Film?21:36 What is Do the Right Thing About?24:33 Recommended Viewing for Spike Lee?26:53 Plot Summary for Do the Right Thing28:17 Did You Know?29:28 First Commercial Break31:53 What's Happening? with Andrew and Sean36:56 Ask Dana Anything38:47 The Stanley Rubric - Legacy58:18 The Stanley Rubric - Impact/Significance01:19:47 The Stanley Rubric -...
