Let's talk about Drive by Tamara Lush! An Italian hero brings the “bossy for her safety” vibe and our heroine is breaking the Female Tire Changer glass ceiling. Welcome to Formula World! (Since you are here, in the overlap of open-wheel racing enthusiasts and romance readers, you may be interested in hoverbikes, which show up in Hanna's book Queen of Dust.)We took a safety car in the first five minutes of the pod to discuss bookstagram annotations. Wow! That was fast. Here's a link to Kate's curated list of F1 Romances. [KATE HELP] [Ed. Note: I would not necessarily call this “curated” so much as “every one I could find.”]“The one where her boyfriend is Max and her brother is Carlos and she's a youtuber” is Throttled by Lauren Asher.“The one where is she is half mechanic and half model” is Revved by Samantha Towle.“The one where she was also a mechanic” is My Shocking Monte Carlo Confession by Heidi Rice.“The one with the fish” is Lights Out by Kat Ransom.[KATE THIS IS TO HELP YOU MAKE YOUR SPREADSHEET]We found out an F1 steering wheel costs $100,000! And drivers toss them around!Max's world record pit stop. Max's dad's car fire pit stop. Max, Max, Max, Super Max.Is it science that women fall in love with their first lover? Please feel free to weigh in.“Mia” is a perfect representation of mine. No comments necessary, this is factual. We didn't get songs in this book, but that didn't stop Hanna from making a playlist. We blame The Shallows for why we can't remember anything. This book had driver superstitions! We agree we want more news conferences, we disagree that our hero is Danny Ric. And because Hanna makes the show notes, Dante is: Mario Andretti!
Racy Books Presents! Maya Blake's The Price of Success. Featuring: A heroine who is a driver! Trauma and drama! (And Hanna once again professing her love of books with kidnappings and/or car crashes.) At the top, we try to talk about topical real-life F1:Things missing from Drive to Survive Season Five.Fernando Alonso is doing well in Sebastian Vettel's Astin Martin. Lance Stroll's broken wrists.Kate does not get Hanna's Field of Dreams reference, did you?Do you know about Hannah Schmitz, strategist at Red Bull? Fun fact: she deals with ~mYsOgoNy~ and Max Verstappen [KATE YOU SEE THIS?] doesn't like it.We learned about limited in season testing and wondered: Is a re-shapable training track real? We don't think so.This book's central question seems to be: Can one race when one experiences emotion? Here's a catchphrase for the answer: Foggy eyes, broken hearts, will crash.Men drive race cars when they have kids even though our heroines keep choosing to quit for that reason. Podcasting is not a visual medium but: side-eye.Not only are there six-star hotels—there are seven-star hotels. Marketing!“‘Let him whip in kitchen cups,' you know what I mean?”Here's one of Crush-On-Her-Professor Hanna's poems, for the real ones:“Shirts, socks, and underwear,Hoodies hanging on the chair,Fucking paper everywhere,I cannot see the floor.”More importantly: Lando Norris eating seventeen spring rolls. The closest we can get to our hero is Toto Wolff—the likelihood he flies his own PJs is high. For the sandwich girlies:The grilled cheese from Chef. The Milanesa Torta from XOCO. The egg sandwich of my heart.Tell us what you put on your sandwiches. We also want to know which books you've read with well-described sandwiches. And tune in next time for our equally relevant thoughts on [KATE PUT WHATEVER WE READ HERE I DON'T REMEMBER]. -Ed. note: We read Drive by Tamara Lush for our next episode. Can't wait for you to join us!

Today's Guest: Tamara Lush, Associated Press reporter, romance novelist, Tell Me A Story, Hot Shade Watch this exclusive Mr. Media interview with Tamara Lush by clicking on the video player above! Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience full of real women who no longer believe any real men will ever match up to the super-studs in the romance novels they read by the dozens… in the NEW new media capital of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida! Tell Me A Story by Tamara Lush. Order your copy today by clicking on the book cover above! I would love to poke around inside the mind of Tamara Lush and listen directly to whatever her inner narrator whispers to her during the course of a day. In the last two years, the veteran Associated Press news reporter has carved out a new media landscape for her off-duty hours as a hot contemporary romance writer with an erotic voice that will leave many readers gasping for air. TAMARA LUSH podcast excerpt: "The billionaire trope has always been huge in the romance novel. I don't see that going away (under a President Trump). There have been recent trends with more blue-collar heroes--farmers, mechanics. And I have written about rich journalists, which is about the biggest fantasy you can get." In her third full-length novel, Tell Me A Story – it’s actually five stories, depending upon how you consume it, which I’ll let her explain – Lush expands upon the promise found in her first novel, Hot Shade. The story, plot and characters have greater depth and the sex is even more intimate and moving. Women, I think, will find in Lush a young woman’s voice that speaks to them. And guys, if you’re willing to take a flyer on erotica other than Penthouse “Letters” or 60-second YouPorn clips, you will be surprised how quickly and all-consuming Tell Me A Story is. This is the author’s second appearance on Mr. Media. TAMARA LUSH podcast excerpt: "'Tell Me A Story' is book candy for the phone. It's for people who just want to read a short, sexy story with a little bit of suspense, a little bit of humor. I call it 'erotic chick-lit.'" Key interview moments: • 3:05 Contemporary romance novelist Tamara Lush explains how Tell Me A Story grew from novella to 500-page book; • 19:50 Will a President Trump affect the future of the romance novel?; • 0:00 Lush explains the affect her day job as an Associated Press reporter has on her fiction writing. Today's Guest: Tamara Lush, AP reporter based in St. Petersburg, Florida, whose first novel is Hot Shade. Watch this exclusive Mr. Media interview with Tamara Lush by clicking on the video player above! Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience full of sex-starved, consenting young adults who are getting crazy from the heat… in the NEW new media capital of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida! To paraphrase the 39th President of the United States, I have lust in my heart… for Tamara Lush. We’ve never met in person, never even laid eyes on each other before this video interview commenced, but having read her searingly inflamed first attempt at romance fiction, I can’t help but want to get to know her better. TAMARA LUSH podcast excerpt: "While it is about sex, writing romance and reading romance is a really feminist act. It's about women taking control of their own lives and their own pleasure." You can LISTEN to this interview with AP reporter and novelist TAMARA LUSH, author of HOT SHADE, by clicking the audio player above! Fortunately, she’s in a soundproof booth and can’t hear me right now. I think. Uh, Tamara, can you hear me? Oh, sh!t. Look, what can I say? Hot Shade is a passionate, erotic story about Skylar, a young female reporter in a small Florida beach town who meets a mysterious Italian tourist in the course of doing her job. He soon turns her on in ways she never knew existed. It’s an excellent first effort and I know I want to read more from the ironically named Lush. TAMARA LUSH podcast excerpt: "When I was in second grade, I was heavily influenced by the movie 'Raiders of the Lost Ark. And in the early 1980s, I wrote 'Raiders fanfic. It always had to do with vaguely handsome foreign men doing swashbuckling things around the globe. There was heroine who need to be rescued. I was heavily influenced by Marion Ravenwood (played by actress Karen Allen). She was awesome!" Tamara Lush is currently an AP reporter based in St. Petersburg, Florida. Before that, she spent many years writing for the Tampa Bay Times. And she’s damn good at that, too. I’ve spent my entire career around female journalists and if they all have imaginations as vivid as Tamara’s, I envy the loves of their lives. Key interview moments: • 2:10 Karen Allen's portrayal of the love interest in the first 'Indiana Jones' film commits Tamara Lush to the writing life -- in second grade; • 14:40 Romance writing is, according to Lush, all about women taking control of their own lives and pleasure; • 23:00 As a reporter, Lush broke the story of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford's infidelities with his Argentinian mistress, making international headlines.
