And yet... we can't ignore what our eyes see. Unlike the stewards! Join Brian and Patrick on the Hard Compound for the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix. Kimi Antonelli extends his championship lead with a dominant Monaco Grand Prix victory, but the result only tells half the story. Verstappen's race ended before it even began, Leclerc suffered more Monaco heartbreak, Russell's disastrous weekend continued and a late red flag turned the final laps into absolute chaos. We break down the biggest winners, losers and championship implications from one of the wildest Monaco Grands Prix in years.

The Canadian Grand Prix delivered absolute chaos, and this week I'm flying solo to break it all down. Mercedes had the fastest car all weekend, but somehow walked away with heartbreak after George Russell's race-leading car failed on lap 30, handing victory straight to teammate Kimi Antonelli. Four wins in a row, 43 points clear in the championship, and suddenly the 19-year-old looks unstoppable. I also dive into the growing tension inside Mercedes after a fiery Sprint battle between Russell and Antonelli, Toto Wolff's brutal radio message, and whether this rivalry is about to become a real problem for the team. Plus, Lewis Hamilton finally delivers Ferrari's best result of the season after an incredible move around the outside of Max Verstappen, McLaren completely imploded with strategy disasters and a Norris DNF, Oscar Piastri finishes outside the points, and the championship picture shifts in a massive way after Montreal. Five rounds in… and its getting exciting!!

Mercedes' Bradley Lord tried to retire the Max Verstappen story...but Max himself said did that already.Climb the ladder with me on Patreon: https://patreon.com/lawvsAt the same time as the N24, Toto Wolff's deputy Bradley Lord went on a German channel and tried to retire the Max Verstappen story (arguably Toto's successor-in-training). He said Max's anger about the 2026 regulations is fading because Red Bull's getting better. Problem is that, Max himself said the opposite back around Miami... that doesn't happen by accident. There's a conflict in time management and productivity that few people ever talk about. That's the conflict between being productive and being responsive. It's almost like the Ying and Yang of life. A sort of Newtonian “everything has an equal and opposite reaction.” While we may want to shut ourselves away and give our full focus to an important piece of work, there's always someone, somewhere, who wants to interrupt us and keep us from being productive. It's this that we will be looking at this week. Links: Email Me | Twitter | Facebook | Website | Linkedin Learn more and register for the Ultimate Productivity Workshop here. Get Your Copy Of Your Time, Your Way: Time Well Managed, Life Well Lived The Working With… Weekly Newsletter Carl Pullein Learning Centre Carl's YouTube Channel Carl Pullein Coaching Programmes Subscribe to my Substack The Working With… Podcast Previous episodes page Script | 417 Hello, and welcome to episode 417 of the Your Time, Your Way Podcast. A podcast to answer all your questions about productivity, time management, self-development, and goal planning. My name is Carl Pullein, and I am your host of this show. I'm sure we've all been there. We have an important piece of work to complete, and we need a good two or three hours of uninterrupted focus to do it. We block our calendars and pre-plan our day to minimise the risk of anything happening that will interrupt our plan. And then the day starts, you turn up for work, and all hell has broken loose. Bosses and colleagues are in a panic, and you're told you must attend an urgent meeting in twenty minutes. No ifs or buts, you must attend. Argh! It's enough to have you asking what the point is in making plans when this always happens. Well, not so fast. It's just Newton's third law of Motion acting in a way Sir Isaac Newton never expected. The pressure of needing two or three hours of quiet, focused work is matched by the force of people needing your attention right now. Finding the antidote to this phenomenon is what this week's question is all about. So, without further ado, let me hand you over to the Mystery Podcast Voice for this week's question. This week's question comes from Tim. Tim asks, “ Hi Carl, I've tried to do time blocking for years and have never found a way to stick with it. My colleagues always seem to have urgent questions or need me to do something right now. Do you have any ideas to avoid this from happening? Hi Tim, thank you for your question. You may have heard of the concept of manager vs maker (or sometimes producer). A manager's role is to ensure the work is getting done, allocate resources, and hold meetings. A maker's role is to produce the work. The conflict is between the manager's need to know what's happening and the maker's need for uninterrupted time to produce the work the manager is chasing. In my experience working with teams, the best teams are those where managers trust their teams to get the work done. Where the flow of information is smooth and works both ways, and the need for “update” meetings is minimal. The most ineffective teams are those where managers constantly want to know what's happening, are unclear about what they want and by when, and don't protect their team from interruptions. You can tell these managers by the number of “status” meetings they have each week. Every day is full of them. I remember seeing an interview with Toto Wolff, the CEO and team principal of the Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 racing team. In one response to a question, he said: “My role is to hire the best people, tell them what I want, and then get out of the way and let them do their work.” Toto Wolff is not an engineer or aerodynamicist, but he is an excellent leader and manager. Many of the software engineers I've spoken with tell me they need about 4 to 6 hours a day to focus on writing code. And even with the help of AI, there's still a lot of focused work required. AI doesn't magically produce code. It needs prompting, the right context given and a clear outcome. And the results need to be carefully checked and tested. A lot of focused work. The answer to many of these issues for the people who produce the work is to use time blocking. Now, time blocking often gets abused. I've seen countless articles and videos suggesting that you block every hour (and sometimes minute) with something. This is wrong. That's not time blocking. That's setting yourself up for failure, bordering on self-abuse. Time blocking that works is when you protect two or three hours a day for deeper, focused work. You then leave the rest of the day open for meetings, interruptions and lighter work such as responding to messages and emails. It's balancing the need for being productive with the need to be responsive. Yet it's also about putting in place barriers that help you get your work done, and communicating to your colleagues and bosses that you cannot be disturbed right now. I've found it's that communication step people struggle with. There seems to be a fear that people will think less of you because you are not available to their every whim when they need you. Complete fallacy. The people in your organisation who get the most respect are the ones who are strict about when they are available and when they are not. They have clear barriers, and no one crosses those barriers. The people who get the least respect and are often the ones left behind on the promotion ladder have no barriers. They are always willing to stop and chat about this, that, and the other. These are the people who end up taking their work home and are always the last to submit on a project. As Jim Rohn said, "When you work, work. When you play, play. Don't mix the two.” The problem here is that when you don't set boundaries and are always available, your bosses feel they have to supervise you more. You get caught in a vicious circle. And because you are always submitting your work at the last minute, you're being interrupted by colleagues and bosses asking how you're getting on. When it comes to protecting time on your calendar for focused work, timing is everything. According to several studies, around 80% of people are at their most focused and creative in the morning. This means, if you want to produce your best work, do it when you are at your most focused and creative. If that is the morning, protect time in the morning and leave your afternoons open for discussions, meetings and other responsive tasks. To give you one example, I have a client who is a software engineer. She's the manager of a team of engineers, and each morning at 8:30 am, they have a 15-minute ‘stand-up meeting' to inform everyone of their plan for the day. (They all follow the Daily Planning Sequence). This informs the team when each of them will be doing their focused work time (usually a three-hour block), what meetings they have, and when they will be available to discuss projects. My client blocks her calendar from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm for doing her focused work, but does allow 9:00 am to 9:30 am to discuss any issues with individual team members or her bosses. Then 9:30 hits, and she shuts down Slack and email, opens up her coding software, and for the next three hours, it's complete and total focus time. Since she and her team adopted this practice, they've never missed a deadline, and no one ever has to take work home. And more importantly, their productivity, as individuals and as a team, has shot through the roof. This has the added benefit of their bosses now knowing not to disturb them during focus time. There's plenty of time to update projects or gather information before and after a focus block. It works. It's balancing the need to be productive with the need to be responsive. And during an eight-hour workday, her team is only unavailable for three hours, not all at once. So there is always someone available to field questions from higher-ups and clients, if necessary. Now, there is another block I would highly recommend, and this one will help to reduce and even eliminate backlogs. This is the communications and admin hour. Let's be honest, Slack and Teams didn't do what they promised. Make communicating between teams and colleagues easier and faster. All these tools have done is take away the immediacy of email, move it to another tool, and made it noisier than email ever was. We still get far too many communications, and far too many low-value and time-wasting messages. The problem today is the one we've faced since the dawn of email: the feeling that we must respond immediately. Now, I'll take you back to the two opposing forces at play in your workday: the need to be productive and the need to be responsive. If you were 100% productive, you wouldn't be communicating with anyone and would be focused solely on your work. If you were 100% responsive, you'd never get any work done, as you'd be responding to interruptions and answering questions and messages all day. So, there's a need to find some balance. In my real-life tests, I've found that if you set aside an hour later in the day to respond to your messages, backlogs rarely occur, and if they do, they remain under control. This only works, though, if you are consistent with this method. You'll never be on top of your messages if you sporadically deal with them throughout the week. But if you consistently spend an hour or so responding to these messages and catching up on relevant threads, you'll never feel overwhelmed, and if things do build up, adding an extra 30 minutes is often all you need to get things under control. Now, let's deal with the elephant in the room. You're open calendar. Time blocking will never work if you do not get control of your calendar and get in first. In other words, your focus block and your communications and admin time should be pre-blocked on your calendar. I've seen people wait until Monday morning to find time to get their productive work done, only to discover their calendar is full of meetings. No, no, no. It doesn't work like that. You have to go into your calendar and begin protecting time today. Perhaps your calendar is now full for the next two weeks. If so, go out three weeks in the future and set up some recurring blocks of time for doing your productive work now. You can change these later if the time you've protected is needed for something important, but if you don't do it now, you will never do it, and the pattern you're stuck in today will be the same pattern you're stuck in in three weeks. I would also recommend setting these up as recurring blocks. That makes your life easier, and you soon come to respect these time blocks. This also makes planning the week simpler. Knowing that you've got a couple of hours each day protected for your productive work, you can assign dates to your work more confidently. I know when I begin the week, that I will have time on Thursday to write this script. I have time protected for doing so. So there you go, Tim. I hope that has helped. Look at the work you do, calculate where your balance between being productive and responsive lies, and then reflect that in your calendar. I mentioned two hours a day for focused work, but if you are in a role that requires you to be particularly responsive, you may only allow one hour a day. But that is far better than nothing. Good luck, and thank you for your question. Thank you to you, too, for listening. It just remains for me to wish you all a very, very productive week.
Has Mercedes been moved on from Russell? Already?Climb the ladder with me on Patreon: https://patreon.com/lawvsIt's safe to say that the F1 team of Toto Wolff probably didn't see the rapid development of Kimi Antonelli play out in 2026. ON TODAYS PROGRAM… MIAMI IS THE REAL 2026 SEASON OPENER!! TURKEY GP RETURNS FOR 2027! JEAN ALESI CRASHES HIS 1969 312 FERRARI AT THE MONACO HISTORIQUES! TOTO KEEPING HIS CARDS CLOSE TO HIS CHEST! BYD ARE TALKING WITH DOMINICALI!!…..AND…. FERNANDO'S VICTORY OVER THE RED BARRON WAS 20 YEARS AGO! AND… THIS WEEK'S NASIR HAMEED CORNER WE HAVE: JEROME D'AMBROSIO AND LANDO NORRIS AT DONINGTON 2015!! On 24 April 2005, the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola became one of the defining races of Fernando Alonso's first championship season. He won for Renault, but the result is remembered above all for the final laps, when Michael Schumacher brought the Ferrari close enough to make every corner matter. Alonso had started second. Schumacher had started 13th on the grid after a difficult qualifying session, yet as his pace came alive, it transformed the afternoon. Kimi Räikkönen had led early for McLaren before retiring with a driveshaft problem, and Alonso inherited a race that soon became a test of control as much as speed. In the closing phase, Schumacher was the faster driver. He had the Ferrari underneath him, the experience of seven world titles behind him, and a circuit where passing was difficult. Alonso had track position, a Renault R25 to protect, and no margin for error. For lap after lap, he placed the car exactly where it needed to be. Alonso crossed the line just 0.215 seconds ahead of Schumacher. After the later BAR-Honda disqualifications, Alexander Wurz was classified third for McLaren Mercedes. Imola 2005 remains a clean piece of Formula 1 memory: pressure, restraint, and two drivers at different points of their stories meeting at the edge of a changing era. Machismo! We spoke with former World Drivers' Champion Nigel Mansell after the regulation refinements were announced and he shared his views. Here's a summary of what he said: It's fabulous that everyone's talking and this is a massive change "I think the fabulous thing is that everyone's talking. It's been a massive change in regulations, both with the car and the engine. I think there's going to be improvements with the harvesting of power. Hopefully, they won't be slowing down too much into some of the corners now.” "I think it is so vitally important for the drivers to be able to drive the cars to the maximum, as opposed to having a computer telling them when they can brake or can't brake. Fernando Alonso made us all laugh by saying that his chef could drive the car better than he could at the moment.” "We have to get back to normality. Formula One is the grand stallion of all racing worldwide and we mustn't lose sight of that. And as technology gathers pace, they can do these other tweaks to do 50/50 later but they just need to give more power to the cars at the moment to go racing.” I'd like to see more power to the elbows of the drivers "In engineering terms, if it's not broken, you don't try to fix it. People don't understand that there's major changes which have been in place for some time. It takes a lot of time for all the teams and manufacturers to put it all together.” "So the complexity of the rules is enormous and if you don't get it right, along with the combination of the power units, harvesting of electrical power, and so on and so forth. It's a minefield.” "Drivers can fall foul of so many regulations and yet it's the computers doing it all. I'd just like to see more power to the elbow of the drivers, as opposed to computers doing it.” "Going back to the 70s and 80s, 90+ percent of the engines were Cosworth DFV. Everyone had the same engines pretty much and we had fantastic racing. You knew the cars, the drivers, the tyres, the mechanics and the engineers made a huge difference.” "Yes we're in the computer age but racing should be as stable as it can be, for everyone to be able to catch up to compete. Everyone's mooting it would be great to have the V10s back for the noise. If you're a purist, the answer is yes. Everybody makes their own V10 and it'll sound fantastic because it's the pinnacle of motorsport.” Challenge for F1 is to balance technological advancement and "racing" "I have tremendous sympathy, and support the drivers one hundred percent with what they're saying. They need to be listened to. They've got a job to do and they do a fantastic job, all of them.” "It's all well and good, coming up with new ideas and regulations. All I'd say to the powers that be is that they've done a fantastic job but they have to work and they have to be able to be implemented safely and properly.” "When they've tweaked it enough that it works, it's fantastic. But until it does work properly for everybody, we need to keep tweaking it, I think urgently now so that we get the show on the road.” "As long as it doesn't carry on for much longer they'll be fine. They're all doing a great job. What the manufacturers have done, the FIA, the governing body and Liberty Media themselves.” "They mustn't lose sight of the fact that the cars need to race properly. It has some growing pains but it has been the most difficult start of any year because they've had three races and then this month or so off. And now we've got Miami so I think everyone's excited about that at the end of next week as we can get racing again.” Mercedes still have the advantage despite regulation refinements "If you're Mercedes you must be incredibly frustrated because you could have gotten a big lead in the championship.” "The people who are struggling, they'd go 'oh, thank you!'. They get a bit more time to sort things out and get ready for the next race.” "It's on both ends of the spectrum. Some people are going to feel very comfortable with it and some will feel frustrated. It's racing anyway. There's always something going on.” "I don't think so (Mercedes and Toto Wolff being disappointed) because we haven't had a proper race yet, if you're a purist. Mercedes have done such a fantastic job, they'll have an advantage all through the year. Their engine is better than anybody else's.” "We're talking purely here about harvesting power and drivers being able to race the cars on the track and at every corner as much as they can. So it's a different thing altogether". "I still think Mercedes will have an advantage all through the year but it's a big development. It's a big development with the cars, with the engines. A month is a very long time and we could see a lot of changes in Miami. Once we get racing properly, everything can stay stable again. It's just that everybody is not racing properly at the moment". These regulation refinements make Miami GP the first pivotal race of the season "I hope everything settles down and we have a great race in Miami.” "I think Miami, because the focus is on it, could be one of the pivotal races this year with all the new tweaks. I think Miami's got hype because obviously without going into the negativity of what's happening in the war, with this month off, everybody's hungry to go racing again. So Miami's going to be under the microscope, and I think it's going to be a fantastic race down there.” "Well, I'll let you know firsthand I'm gonna be there this year for one of the days, so I'm gonna go and have a look. This is my first time in Miami. I haven't been there but Miami is a great spectacle. I think every year when any race returns, there's improvements.” "I'm very optimistic that Miami will be a much better presentation.” Stovebolt Special Returns to Pebble Beach Decades after Historic Run in Last Road Race PEBBLE BEACH, CALIFORNIA (April 22, 2026) — At the drop of the green flag, in what was to be the very last road race at Pebble Beach although no one knew that then, two-time past winner Bill Pollack jumped into the lead in a much-modified car that would come to be known as the “Stovebolt Special”—a 1950 HWM fitted with experimental disc brakes and the very first Chevy V8 to be used in road racing. The date was April 22, 1956. For a brief time, the car led the Ferraris of Phil Hill, Carroll Shelby, and Ernie McAfee as well as every other car in the race. It was powered to win—and might have done so but for the many tight corners of the tree-lined course, which the just-completed special struggled to navigate since its handling was not yet dialed in. Ultimately it finished sixth overall—a fine achievement in a field comprising the top sports racing cars and drivers of the day. Although the Stovebolt Special now resides in England with renowned auto journalist and current owner Simon Taylor, it will return to Pebble Beach this August for the 75th celebration of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, an event that began in tandem with the Pebble Beach Road Races in 1950. The HWM had already lived a long and storied life when it raced at Pebble Beach. In original form, as a works race car bearing a four-cylinder two-liter Alta engine, it served as the steed for Stirling Moss in his first paid competition. He raced the car for HWM throughout much of the 1950 season, recording several fine results including a third-place finish behind the Alfas of Giuseppe Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio in the Bari Grand Prix. With Johnny Claes at the wheel, the HWM won the Grand Prix des Frontieres. It was also driven by Rudi Fischer and Raymond Sommer. A few years later, the car was sold to 20th Century Fox to be used in the film “The Racers,” starring Kirk Douglas—and was crashed in accord with the script. It was Tom Carstens who bought the wreck and resurrected it for Pebble Beach, not simply rebuilding it, but doing all that he could to improve the chassis, transmission, and body. The new Chevy V8 engine was bored and stroked to just under five liters by Bobby Meeks at Vic Edelbrock's shop and then was fitted in the car by Eddie Kuzma, who managed that task by repositioning the firewall and fabricating new rear bodywork. Ted Halibrand's shop added a quick-change rear axle and the disc brakes. The finished creation was called the Stovebolt Special by “Sports Cars Illustrated” magazine—and the name stuck. The return of the Stovebolt Special to Pebble Beach is made possible thanks to Simon Taylor as well as the American Hot Rod Foundation (ahrf.com), particularly founder Steve Memishian and foundation manager David Steele. The “Stovebolt Special” among several race cars in competition at the very last road race through the tree-lined course in Pebble Beach. Photo Credit: Julian P. Graham / Pebble Beach Company Lagorio ArchivesThe 75th Concours will pay tribute to its historic ties in racing as well as the many “first-ever” gatherings of cars that have made it famous. The former road racers will be showcased in two special classes, one focusing on cars that raced in close-to-original form as made by their manufacturers and the other focusing on specials that were much modified. The event will also feature cars ranging from early American Speedsters to Ferraris and Japanese race cars, and the latest new creations and dream cars will be displayed on the Concept Lawn. ON TODAYS PROGRAM… KIMI WINS AGAIN WITH A LITTLE SAFETY CAR KARMA! GEORGE GETS HIS CAGE RATTLED BY ANTONELLI MCLAREN QUICKLY CATCHING UP WITH MERCEDES. RED BULL CLEARLY A MID PACK TEAM. DID THE NEW RULES CONTRIBUTE TO OLIE'S BIG CRASH? AND…FERNANDO HELD BACK GP2 ENGINE aaahhh! THIS WEEK'S NASIR HAMEED CORNER WE HAVE: CHRISTIAN KLEIN. 2026 Japanese Grand Prix - Sunday Kimi Antonelli It feels great to get my second win! I made a bad start from pole and was kicking myself that we lost so many positions. When we were in free air on the Medium tyre though, I was able to improve my pace quite a lot. We were fortunate with the timing of the Safety Car and that put us in the lead; it made my life a lot easier! Who knows what would have happened without that, but I felt like we had the speed today to challenge for the win without it. This is the best way to head into this mini break in the season. I am going to enjoy the moment but use the time well to work on where I can improve. As a team, and despite winning the first three races, we know we need to keep raising our game too. We had a real battle today and we know that it's not going to be easy to keep up this run of form. We're looking forward to using the time ahead of Miami well and hopefully putting ourselves in a strong position once the season resumes. George Russell We've had a lot of bad luck this weekend and that is unfortunate as we were definitely in the fight for the win today. After a difficult start, we'd managed to get ourselves back to P2 but stopped just one lap before the safety car was deployed. That changed the complexion of the race and unfortunately, after taking the restart in P3, we lost two more positions as a result firstly of hitting the harvesting limit and then an unexpected superclip. It was pretty frustrating but that's the way racing goes sometimes. It's clear from this weekend that our competitors are beginning to optimise their cars much more now. We have enjoyed a great start to the season, but our rivals are hot on our heels as we saw today. The upcoming gap in the calendar will also give everyone a chance to develop further so we know that, once we're back on track in Miami, we are in for a proper fight. Toto Wolff, CEO & Team Principal We had an exciting race today with plenty of overtaking which hasn't always been the case here at Suzuka. It's a new way of racing where you have to think strategically in order to both pass and then make sure it sticks. It's a great challenge for both the drivers and the teams and it makes the race very unpredictable. Sometimes you need the luck to go your way in racing and that was the case with Kimi today. He lost positions at the start but was able to get them back with a fortunately timed safety car. Whilst that was helpful to him, his pace in the second half of the race showed what he was capable of. George was on the flip side of that equation and lost out having pitted just one lap before the safety car came out. He then lost more positions, firstly on the restart as he hit the harvesting limit and was low on deployment and then secondly with an unexpected superclip. He fought hard to get back to P4, but he's certainly had more than his share of bad luck this weekend. Andrew Shovlin, Trackside Engineering Director Well done to Kimi on his second win. He had really strong pace and, whilst he benefited from the safety car to put him into the lead, he was able to comfortably control the race once he was in that position. Kimi's fortune was George's misfortune. Had we stopped George a lap later, he would have retained the lead for the restart. As it happened, he dropped to P3 and lost a further place to Lewis when he hit the harvesting limit too early in the lap and had insufficient battery for the restart. He then had another frustrating issue where a bug in the software code, triggered by a button press and a gear shift at the same time, caused the power unit to go into superclip and charge the battery which allowed Charles to pass. He battled back to P4 but it was a frustrating afternoon for George. Clearly there is a lot that we need to work on and understand in the next few weeks. We've made a great start to the season, but our competitors are closing in. Happily, we have several areas of improvement and we will make the maximum use of the gap in the calendar to develop in the places where we are not strong enough. Palou Dominates To Win in Another Barber Beatdown BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Sunday, March 29, 2026) – Alex Palou appears to be running wild again after another dominant victory at Barber Motorsports Park. Four-time and defending NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Palou earned his second victory in four races this season in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, starting from the pole and winning the Children's of Alabama Indy Grand Prix powered by AmFirst by 13.2775 seconds over the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet of Christian Lundgaard. Palou led 79 of the 90 laps on the 17-turn, 2.3-mile road course. SEE: Race Results “Incredible day,” Palou said. “I told you qualifying was one of the best car balances I've ever driven. Today in the race, it was pretty good in the beginning, really good at the end, but we suffered a little bit on the used blacks (Firestone Firehawk primary tires) that we had to use. “Another win here. Love this place, love the fans. What a great day.” Graham Rahal placed third in the No. 15 First Third Bank Honda fielded by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, his first podium finish since August 2023 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. “I felt like this was coming,” Rahal said. “We're pretty pleased with this. Feels good.” David Malukas continued his consistent start to his Team Penske tenure by finishing fourth in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet. Malukas has placed sixth or better in three of his four starts with the fabled team this season. Series leader Kyle Kirkwood rounded out the top five finishers – all from different teams – in the No. 27 JM Bullion/Gold.com Honda of Andretti Global. There's something about this rolling, picturesque circuit and recent dominance by Palou, who earned his third career Barber win. He won last year in 16.005 seconds. The first of his 21 career victories also came here in 2021, but by a scant .4016 of a second. One more ominous fact about Palou's victory for the other 24 drivers in the field: He has gone on to win the Astor Challenge Cup as series champion in the same season as both of his prior Barber victories. Palou stayed in second in the 2026 series standings with this victory but trimmed the gap to leader Kirkwood from 26 to two points as he tries to win a fourth consecutive title. While the margin of victory was the biggest in an NTT INDYCAR SERIES race since Palou's crushing victory last April at Barber, the final gap might be a bit misleading. Palou led by 7.2 seconds on Lap 52 while running on a used pair of Firestone Firehawk primary tires, but Lundgaard started to chip away at that gap, gaining nearly a half-second on some laps on the quicker but less durable alternate tire. The gap was trimmed to three seconds when Palou made his final pit stop at the end of Lap 65, taking another set of used primary tires for the run to the finish. Lundgaard inherited the lead during Palou's last stop and stayed on track for another four laps, trying to gain more time on Palou and perhaps land within striking distance of Palou after Lundgaard's last stop. Lundgaard entered the pits at the end of Lap 69 for his final service. But calamity struck, as the right-rear wheel change was slow. That produced a 17.8-second stop, about nine seconds slower than normal. Lundgaard returned to the track in third, behind Rahal. Game over. Palou was home free. “I think so,” Lundgaard said when asked if he could have caught Palou. “We know the pace that we had and just how we were catching him. It's unfortunate. The guys have done an amazing job, and I don't think that's (mistake) ever really happened. One in almost 100 starts, I think it's OK.” Palou led Rahal by 10.8 seconds after that pit drama and cruised to the finish in the caution-free race. But Lundgaard and Rahal engaged in a spirited joust for second over the closing laps, with Lundgaard finally diving under Rahal in Turn 5 for second with three laps to go. That was the last of 11 on-track passes during the race for Lundgaard, including seven for position in the top 10 – both race highs. “At the end of the day, I wanted to go out there and repass Graham,” Lundgaard said. “Just to make up for that (pit mistake) and put a statement to, ‘We got it.'” Rahal then held off a charging Malukas to keep the precious podium spot for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. The next NTT INDYCAR SERIES race is the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach on Sunday, April 19.
