In what may be one of the most entertaining episodes of any Real Housewives franchise, we bear witness to several mic drop moments from women who have honed skills of verbal battle. Early on, we see our gruff Tater Todd, arms folded, and delivering a stern performance review of "did not meet expectations" to his direct report. Then, a fairytale presentation of Mary's Breakfast at Tiffany's event is littered with butlers, decor, and vitriol as the women address beefs old and new. Despite wearing thick winter garb, Heather comes in hot and aiming for Bronwyn, Angie and Meredith face off, Meredith and Whitney have a run in, everyone comes for Meredith's unique hairpiece choice, and Britani continues to look for love and attention in all the wrong places. In the second of three (or maybe even four!) episodes on Queer Cinema this month, Dhruv and Cris rhapsodize about Claire Denis' formally groundbreaking masterwork of queer and post-colonial cinema, "Beau Travail" (1999). Initially, we planned to make this a 25-30 minute "extra" episode because Cris' recent obsession with the film matched Dhruv's unwavering love for it. But the film, loosely based on Herman Melville's unfinished 1888 novella, "Billy Budd, Sailor," about male camaraderie that gives way to envy and jealousy, inspires a much longer discussion. Everything from the film's Godardian influences to Denis Lavant's staggering central performance to Agnès Godard's unforgettably haunting cinematography is discussed in detail here, with Dhruv and Cris recounting numerous instances from the film that continue to prove elusive even after three or four viewings. Listen to the full episode to hear us wax lyrical about Denis' subtle lyricism and her whole-hearted embrace of fragmented, elliptical storytelling. These formal and narrative transgressions, we argue, are what make "Beau Travail" an unforgettable, radical queer text. Time for another extra long episode (why?) of Vanderpump Rules and it's filled with all sorts of salacious drama (lol not really but they're trying and that's the most important thing). We're finally at the Schwartz/Scheana kiss mentioned in the trailer and it is… underwhelming but that won't stop Katie for taking revenge in the bangiest way possible. Katie with the orange hair (still love it) and Scheana's proposal, ahhh, it was beautiful! We learn that Scheana has the location of so many people which is as confusing as Katie sleeping with Schwartz's best friend Max..Lala's storyline this season doesn't make sense...a lot like Sandoval's wardrobe, but we carry on and talk about it all!Enjoy! Rogue school bus drivers helping to facilitate further musical education. On the subject of Kiss, we talk about the merits and stereotypes surrounding the first album. The album cover that could have been (but unfortunately, was not). The underrated Kiss record that more fans should embrace. Should you listen to the entire Kiss discography from top to bottom? What is "Nothin' to Lose" really about? How do you feel about '80s Kiss? KISS is one of the most legendary bands in the history of rock n roll. From their iconic makeup to their bombastic stage shows to the marketing and licensing of every product under the sun, KISS has been a part of popular culture for half a century. The self-titled debut album, KISS, didn't grab everyone's attention out of the gate, however. While they had some killer riffs supplied by original guitarist Ace Frehley, some funky bass from Gene Simmons, swinging drumming from Peter Criss and superstar vocals from Paul Stanley, the band were still forming their sound and identity. In fact, the sales of the album were so slow that Casablanca Records chief Neil Bogart cajoled the band into recording a 50s cover, Kissin Time, which he thought would help boost sales as a single. Even though Kissin Time was added to every copy of KISS after the first 100,000 or so, it didn't help generate more sales. But their reputation as a great live band had KISS winning fans around the nation. And while KISS wouldn't capture that live sound until ALIVE! a couple of years later, this album has some great tracks which are still KISS classics today like Deuce, Strutter, Cold Gin and Black Diamond. We give it our usual track x track evaluation and throw in lots of KISS tidbits. As a special bonus, we have included a clip from Space Ace himself, Ace Frehley. As Ace recently spoke with Paul Stephenson of VRP Rocks (a good friend of Ugly American Werewolf in London), Paul asked Ace a question from The Wolf about the timing of his new solo release 10,000 Volts and how it's coming out almost 50 years to the day from the release of KISS. Ace may not answer the question we asked but it's amazing that Paul asked if for us and the audio is included somewhere in the episode - you'll have to listen to hear from Ace!! Mr. Burns outsources work to India and sends Homer to run the operation. Meanwhile, Patty and Selma kidnap MacGyver, aka Richard Dean Anderson. To be honest, when it comes to "Simpsons go to" episodes, this ranks up as one of the best. Plus the guest appearance from RDA was fantastic. I can always tell how traumatized you guys are by a topic based on how many submissions I get and how long each submission is. AND LET ME TELL YOU. This week's submissions were trauma dumping at its finest. Turns out our first kisses were not all as magical as Mary-Kate and Ashley led us to believe they would be. Nevertheless, they made us who we are today. Enjoy the cringe sweats! Please note that this episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services.
