So many of us have been getting through this year by watching movies at home by ourselves, or with friends on Zoom, inventing new ways to grieve and to hope, to keep ourselves laughing, all through the simple act of watching stories unfold on our screens. In episode 40, one of my dreams comes true--I get to have a conversation with a producer for the podcast that made me fall in love with podcasts, On Being with Krista Tippett. Lily Percy is one of the founding members who brought On Being to independence in 2013; she's also the host of the delightful podcast This Movie Changed Me, and formerly worked for StoryCorps and NPR's All Things Considered.  In today's episode, Lily and I talk about what she's learned from her years of loving movies and listening in on conversations with incredible people reflecting on what it means to be human. We talk about some of the movies Lily loves, how romantic movies always end at the beginning, and our sensitivity when it comes to watching films that are violent or disturbing. We also talk about the wisdom Lily has gleaned from both younger and older generations, from unfixed ideas about identity, to realizing some of the wisest people also face deep struggles throughout their lives. This episode is early on in the Yay Show lexicon (vocal con?). From the archives if you will. It's not the best quality and it goes in and out and meanders (even more than usual? not really).  Wonder Woman and Jacki Zehner and This Movie Changed Me (new episodes please!) came up this am in coffee talk with Krista who just listened to it. Sparked my revisit of a related Yay Show (Episode #31, day 20) I made a good 10 months ago, when the whole thing was very new and raw and messy (it still is!). This is the note I sent to Jacki on 8/17/18, the very day I made this episode.  Hey Jacki, I heard you talking about Wonder Woman with Lily Persey and I was blown away. It changed me. Yes! I started this thing called The Yay Show that is currently an experiment in me talking out loud about my experiences in the world in a Yayful and Strategic dot-connecting way (because that's my thing). It's still in the very early highly creative stages. I'm sharing it with a few friends and yayful people as first listeners. I'd love you (and Lily) to hear the Episode 31 that I just did which is related to Taking Credit, rocking your own super powers and the quote "This is not what we came here to do," - Steve and "No, but it's what I'm going to do." - Diana/Wonder Woman. Jacki wrote back and said "Thanks for the lovely note. It made my morning. Indeed send me the track."  Um Yay! You never know "What you're going to do" and it's often quite different than "What 'we' came here to do." It's really about paying attention to that and doing it and saying it. The "what" will always reveal itself when you're present, even (maybe even especially) if it's in the middle of finding true presence at tassajara. More on that soon! Wake up and say Yay!
