Join us for our punchiest episode yet, as our relief at finishing The Twelve Kingdoms is pretty palpable! But first, we have to get to the bottom of the show's greatest mysteries. Is there a will of the heavens? Is an unstoppable cool guy better than a petty hypocrite? Is this the worst show we've covered? We also talk about GTA V, Yellowjackets Season 2, Succession Season 2, and..a certain classic giallo film.TwittersLiv - @GhostGirlMusicSeneschal - @SomberAzaleasSend any questions to tbhanimepodcast@outlook.com.Next time: Shiki (2010) Episodes 1-5!

This week I have no choice but to call The Twelve Kingdoms a bad show. It forced my hand! We talk about why that is, which has a lot to do with the show's increasingly liberal concerns. We hit the halfway point of The Twelve Kingdoms, and with it a slightly better set of episodes. We talk about the show's shift into backroom politicking, as well as its new focus on two girls (including one that just needs to say sorry, and another that is going through the most miserable time in the world). This week we tackle perhaps the dullest week of episodes in TBH history: the second arc of The Twelve Kingdoms. Episode 117 of Key Frames, a podcast about anime. Well, now that Ben has watched Vision of Escaflowne and Magic Knight Rayearth, he's decided that he likes isekai anime, so in this episode he joins Duncan to dive into the development of the genre. What nuggets of wisdom will they unearth from the distant eighties and nineties? Will Ben discover that he is actually able to appreciate The Twelve Kingdoms now? Will Duncan be able to thread the needle of InuYasha being isekai? Ben certainly tries to do that when they talk later about Aria, the "other world" in question of course being Mars. Check it all out for yourself! The post 117 - Undine Monthly first appeared on Key Frames.

I have a problem with the way we talk about problematic media. Or, more accurately, the way we don’t talk about problematic media. We’ve had a lot of conversations recently about problematic content in series we like and don’t like, and it’s a topic we’ve seen debated time and again whenever a series or creator does something questionable, uncomfortable, or in some cases, criminal. While it’s difficult to reconcile enjoying something that may be doing something “bad” or was created by a creator who has done something “bad,” I think it’s important to interrogate problematic content in the media we consume to identify the ways in which it may affect real people in harmful or damaging ways, and whether supporting such works emboldens the cultural pervasiveness of this content and their creators. This is a complicated topic that can be approached from many perspectives, so we invited several people who have expertise in holding conversations about problematic media and discussing the ways in which it reflects upon our culture and affects people. We’re delighted to have back on the show Erica Friedman, the premier yuri scholar, historian, and founder of Yuricon and Okazu, and are excited to invite on some new guests - Ash from the Youtube Channel The King’s Speech, and The Black Manga Critic from the Youtube Channel of the same name. Together we explored our thoughts on problematic content in media, and how to hold helpful and productive discussions of them in ways that encourage cultural change. Huh, who would have thought you could have a civil conversation about problematic media on the internet?
