Keskustelu on laajennettu versio tämän kesän Desucon-ohjelmastamme. Ajankohtaisena aiheena puhumme siitä, miten Solut työssä -sarjan tekijä Akane Shimizu on avautunut kustannustoimittajien taholta kokemastaan ikävästä kohtelusta. Lukujonossa luemme loppuun Satoru Nodan seikkailusarjan Golden Kamuy. --- Kommentoi | Bluesky | Mastodon | X | Threads | Instagram --- (00:59) – KUULUMISET: AASIAN MAAILMANVALLOITUS – HS: Pehmeää valtaa vai hyvää kirjallisuutta? – Punainen Silakka – Imo – Cool Japan -hanke – Edesmennyt manganlukupalvelu J-Manga – Edesmennyt animestriimipalvelu Daisuki – ANN: Japanese Govt. to Consider Providing Subsidies for AI Translation, Overseas Sales Generation to Companies Like Shueisha, Crunchyroll (08:10) – KOHDEYLEISÖT: ESITTELY – Jakso 11, jossa puhuimme kohdeyleisöjen nelikentästä – Desucon-luentomme Tytöille vai pojille? Episode 154 of Key Frames, a podcast about anime. Another episode, another discussion about Western fantasy's many forms in anime and manga. This time, at least, we're not retreading our decade-old discussion of Record of Lodoss War (though maybe we should...) nor are we glazing contemporary faves like Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and Delicious in Dungeon. Instead, our conversation keeps returning to a relative obscurity, the Heroic Legend of Arslan OVAs from the early nineties. They're not particularly good, in an absolute sense, but they raise some excellent questions on the ever-fading line between historical fiction on the one hand and neomedieval fantasy on the other, as well as providing for a uniquely fruitful source of people and places to look up on Wikipedia! Then, after being such good boys for staying mostly on topic, Ben and Duncan can't help but ramble a bit about alcohol, trauma, and of course yuri. Enjoy The post 154 - Haut Gout first appeared on Key Frames.

In an industry increasingly fractured by the volatile economics of games-as-a-service models, Hasbro has made a definitive, multi-million dollar counter-move. Chief executive Chris Cocks has committed $1 billion strictly toward internal, premium single-player AAA experiences via Wizards of the Coast. This bold rejection of the live-service trend headlines this week's GameBurst podcast, alongside Valve's substantial architectural overhaul of Steam's tag infrastructure—a crucial quality-of-life upgrade aimed at breathing fresh air into organic discoverability for hard-pressed independent developers. Meanwhile, historic milestones and prestigious recognitions bookend the industry's recent cultural footprint. Re-Logic's sandbox phenomenon Terraria has cross-examined its staying power by clearing a monumental 70 million units sold worldwide just in time for its 15th anniversary. Striking a grander historical note, the iconic, heavy-metal-infused 1993 Doom soundtrack has officially been selected for induction into the US National Recording Registry, formally cementing interactive media's aesthetic importance to global heritage. The team also breaks down Sony's impending June State of Play marathon, a raft of Develop:Star award nominations for Clair Obscur and Ghost of Yōtei, and our personal multimedia picks of the week spanning Mixtape to Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. #gameburst Featured Video Links: https://youtu.be/0o8xYjdA6x4?si=bEW98KuANqYVFPi1
AF Freshie Awards Round 2 Every effort is made to keep spoilers to a minimum. (The only exception being older titles)
The highly anticipated second season of 2023's Frieren anime has arrived, and the gang spent a couple of evenings IRL together watching this season's 10 episodes and has now hopped on the mic to share our thoughts. In many ways, it returns to form, continuing to tell a slower paced and vaguely slice-of-life narrative that loves its flashbacks and references to Himmel the Hero and the original party's memory. But in other ways, this season falters a bit, feeling more like a "filler" season with Season 3's announcement for October 2027, and in some cases becoming almost formulaic in its use of flashback scenes and Frieren's aloof nature. But the phenomenal animation (especially in this season's big arc, the Revolte arc) and wonderful soundtrack both return in full force, and you gotta give this season credit for giving us the "Frieren looking up" meme, especially for Alex. Content warning: SPOILERS, strong language.
The monthly video gaming briefing from GameBurst documents significant industrial milestones alongside ongoing corporate restructuring across major publishers. Leading the news, Subnautica 2 has launched into Early Access today on PC and Xbox Series X|S. Developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the title includes four-player cooperative mechanics and an updated Unreal Engine 5 foundation. The release follows a protracted development period marked by internal leadership disputes and legal conflict involving its publisher. In corporate developments, Capcom has reported record annual performance for the fiscal year ending March 2026, with 59 million total units sold. The results were driven heavily by Resident Evil Requiem, pushing the franchise past 200 million lifetime sales. Separately, retail data suggests pre-orders for Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto 6 are imminent, prompting industry speculation ahead of Take-Two Interactive's quarterly earnings call. Further updates include Nintendo's decision to bring forward the theatrical release of the live-action Legend of Zelda film to April 2027, alongside the expansion of the Nintendo Switch Online service to include five additional Virtual Boy titles. Sony also confirmed the addition of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Star Wars Outlaws to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers. The update concludes with the panel's Picks of the Week, covering Mixtape, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, and contemporary tabletop gaming. #gameburst Featured Video Links Quinns Quest Reviews: Stonetop

In line with this year's Crunchyroll Anime Awards, we'll let you know who will, might, won't, and maybe even can't win their respective categories, making sure that, with man like @jaysamzlive from @shownentell in the cut (appreciate you bro), the takes are spicy, the verdicts are potentially crazy, and the vybz Gachiakuta. I vote Deku for Crybaby of the Decade Every effort is made to keep spoilers to a minimum. (The only exception being older titles)

This week, Nigel and Tazziii dive deep into The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (starting at 25:29) with script editor Sashi Gopalakrishnan and Games Aid chair and member of Games London's Ensemble Sara Veal.We talk about the franchise's incredible success in film form, even as the sequel's narrative can feel loose and under-structured, and what that trade-off means for its different audiences. From a storytelling and fan perspective, we get into what works in the execution, what feels thin, and the value of stories supposedly “for kids” in a TikTok generation. This week's storytelling tip is about developing an earned redemption arc.Other stories we're enjoying include: Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Netflix), Fullmetal Alchemist (Crunchyroll), Belonging: Remembering Ourselves Home (Book), Paradise (Disney+), Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice (Disney+), The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting (Crunchyroll), Buddy Daddies (Crunchyroll), I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Be (Crunchyroll), Castle in the Air & House of Many Ways (Book), Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair (Disney+), Down Cemetery Road (Apple TV), Wonder Man (Disney+), Margot Got Money Troubles (Apple TV), Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man (Netflix), Saga (Comic).Connect with Sashi online:- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sashi_sketchesConnect with Sara online:Website: https://www.huhbub.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/digitalbruhahaTwitter: https://twitter.com/digitalbruhahaConnect with mayamada:mayamada is a manga brand and mission-driven creative agency all about equipping young and aspiring creatives to thrive on the creative journey - whether they're discovering what's possible, developing new skills, or sharing expertise with the next generation.Website: https://mayamada.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mayamadatvTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mayamadatvBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/mayamada.comYouTube: https://youtube.com/mayamadatvTwitch: https://www.twitch.tv/mayamadaJoin our Studio77 community on Discord to connect with other creatives and be part of the journey https://discord.gg/b5fmnuT

Time for episode 169! We returned to the beautiful, and somewhat melancholic world of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, by watching season 2! And it largely delivers what the first season did. Although, it doesn't quite hit the same highs. Check it out on Crunchyroll. "Dimension" by Creo and "Devotion" by Jim Hall are licensed under CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)

This week, Nigel and Tazziii do a retrospective of Fallout Season 2 (from 14:35) with Content Creator Jack Mullen. After an excellent first season, we explore what makes the series so consistently high quality, from its world-building to its craft, and how season 2 adds depth to its protagonists as their motivations and arcs become more complicated and intriguing to follow. We also unpack the balance the season strikes between tying up key narrative threads and leaving just enough unresolved to set up what we now expect to come next, and talk about how well the show carries over the games' core themes into this TV adaptation…and which character we would be in the wasteland!Other stories we're enjoying include: Resident Evil Requiem (PS5), Final Fantasy (Various), Arcana Academy (Book), Dan Da Dan (Netflix), Family Plan (Apple TV+), Extraordinary (Disney+), Better Call Saul (Netflix), Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Netflix), Gardens of the Moon (Book), Bob's Burger (Disney+), The Simpsons (Disney+)Connect with Jack online:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jackyboy34Twitter: https://twitter.com/jackmullen8Connect with mayamada:mayamada is a manga brand and mission-driven creative agency all about equipping young and aspiring creatives to thrive on the creative journey - whether they're discovering what's possible, developing new skills, or sharing expertise with the next generation.Website: https://mayamada.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mayamadatvTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mayamadatvBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/mayamada.comYouTube: https://youtube.com/mayamadatvTwitch: https://www.twitch.tv/mayamadaJoin our Studio77 community on Discord to connect with other creatives and be part of the journey: https://discord.gg/b5fmnuT

It's over for the world's biggest anime piracy site... at least, if you believe the message currently displayed on the fallen website."It's time to say goodbye. And thank you for a wonderful journey with great moments." That's the message currently displayed to anyone trying to access HiAnime, which was once regarded as one of the largest anime piracy websites worldwide. However, according to HiAnime's Discord, the illegal streaming site is only temporarily down. "Greetings, everyone," the Discord post reads. "There appears to be an issue with the website at this time. Kindly refrain from panicking or disseminating unofficial or unverified information. We will provide updates regarding the situation in due course. Rest assured, we are not going anywhere."Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 just released a generational anime episode that will certainly be remembered for years to come. But as soon as the episode's critical acclaim arrived, the initial hype around it was replaced by a serious debate about the real source of Frieren's success.Frieren Season 2, Episode 8, “A Magnificent End” marked the conclusion of the highly anticipated Divine Revolte Arc with one of the most hyped anime fights of the year. Even before the episode dropped, a leaked staff list had fans excited, because it featured many of the biggest names in Japanese animation. This included Chainsaw Man and JJK veteran animator Kouki Fujimoto, legendary FMA and Mob Psycho animator Yutaka Nakamura, and even Tatsuya Yoshihara, the director of both Black Clover and the recent Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc film. And they absolutely delivered. The episode debuted with a near-perfect 9.7/10 score on IMDb, making it the series' new highest-rated episode so far. Unfortunately, that achievement brought with it a controversy that few could've seen coming.
This week, Nigel and Tazziii dive deep into Zootopia 2 (starting at 24:05), with writer and producer behind the Write for Animation channel, Pietro Schito.Disney's sequel to the wildly popular 2016 film returns with Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde facing new challenges. We focused on how the film develops the relationship between the two lead characters, and how much change we expect from a sequel. There are a ton of new characters to explore, as well as visually impressive environments and themes that continue to be relevant in society today. We consider whether the sequel manages to build on the original's foundation, and debate whether the third act's revelations work to bring the narrative to a satisfying end. Other stories we're enjoying include: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (Xbox), Bugonia (Cinema), "Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None" (Crunchyroll), The Daily Life of the Immortal King (Crunchyroll), Slow Horses (Apple TV+), Arcana Academy (Book), Vinland Saga (Netflix) and God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla (PS5), Better Call Saul (Netflix), The Legend of Vox Machina (Prime Video), Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Netflix)Connect with Pietro Schito online:Website: https://www.writeforanimation.comYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@WriteforAnimationInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/writeforanimation
Afrikan Families are a Treasure, but not for the weak. So much so that 'laughing at the pain' is an unofficial right of passage. But how do these experiences mesh with the medium that is Anime? We let our imaginations run wild like Jujutsu Kaisen trying to coherently explain how someone's powers work and go in some unexepcted directions. Shout out to our Sis @JayjaySweetsz for coming through and sprinkling the vybz with a pinch of chaos. Every effort is made to keep spoilers to a minimum. (The only exception being older titles)

They also discuss some other highlights of a peak period for anime (including ‘Journal With Witch' and ‘Jujutsu Kaisen'), preview a few coming attractions, and take a detour with discussion of ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu.' After that, other Ringer-Verse hosts, friends, and listeners salute unsung releases to top off another monthly roundup of fandom favorites from TV, anime, movies, video games, books, comics, and beyond that were released recently, but not yet covered in depth on a full-length episode.
