Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn was unmasked nearly 50 times by 39 Obama Administration officials throughout December 2016 and January 2017. UN Ambassador Samantha Power unmasked him seven times. She must have a counting problem, because when she was asked by a reporter in 2019 whether or not she unmasked Flynn, she denied it. In other words, Samantha Power thinks 0=7. One of the most devastating things I have ever seen in my life is the prolific lying and partisan games that are being played by politicians. This has become such a big problem in this country that it is even infecting our federal judiciary. Judge Emmet Sullivan, who is the judge in the Flynn case, has lost his mind. Both the defense and the prosecution have walked away, but the judge still wants this thing to go on. I could never have imagined I'd be living in a country where a 3 year hoax could be played on a president, a media would be fully complicit in a massive amount of lies, a congressman would work hand in glove with a fake whistle blower (who should be unmasked) to impeach the President, and a pandemic would be exploited to spread panic and mass economic shutdown and fallout. There is no telling how many other Trump officials were unmasked during the Presidential Transition of 2016-2017.
Samantha Power is a crusader for human rights and international affairs. She served as President Barack Obama’s human rights adviser and then, from 2013 to 2017, served in his Cabinet and as US Ambassador to the United Nations. She joins Sophia on "Work In Progress" to share details about her early childhood in Ireland, what her time was like as a freelance reporter in the Balkans, how she ended up working for Obama, the importance of women having each other's backs and much more. Executive Producers: Sophia Bush & Sim SarnaSupervising Producer: Allison BresnickAssociate Producer: Caitlin LeeEditors: Josh Windisch and Matt SasakiMusic written by Jack Garratt and produced by Mark FosterArtwork by Kimi SelfridgeThis show is brought to you by Cloud10 & Brilliant Anatomy, and powered by Simplecast. In her new memoir, Samantha Power writes about the “X test.” As she describes it, “in trying for Y, the most I accomplish is X.” In other words, even if “Y” is likely to fail, what “X” can be learned along the way? Power has experienced some of those failures and made some bold moves in her life. Some weren't up to her, like moving from Ireland to the U.S. at the age of 9. As a young adult, she jumped into the fray as a reporter during The Balkan Wars, later writing a Pulitzer Prize-winning book that took the American government to task for failing to stop genocides around the world. She would later become Ambassador to the U.N. under President Obama.
What does it take to live your ideals? We discuss growing up and trying to make a positive change in the world with former UN Ambassador Samantha Power.
The President admits to using the powers of his office to target Joe Biden and his son by pressuring the Ukrainian government to fabricate a scandal, and the Des Moines Register poll shows Elizabeth Warren leading the Democratic field for the first time. Then former UN Ambassador Samantha Power talks to Jon F. and Tommy about her life as a journalist, activist, and public servant. She worked in the Obama Administration for two Secretaries of State (John Kerry & Hillary Clinton), and then for UN Ambassador Samantha Power. She got to know John Kerry's golden retriever (Ben) while working on Mahogany Row, and she traveled across the globe working in high-pressure foreign policy scenarios. But it wasn't until after Trump's election that Lauren Baer first thought about running for office. She credits the birth of her new-born with a fresh desire to take on our challenges head-on. She believes everyone in her district should be able to have access to quality affordable healthcare, a first-rate public education, the opportunity to live in a beautiful (and protected) environment, and a strong economy that preserves and strengthens the middle class. We sat down with Lauren on our podcast to discuss her progressive platform for her district, her experience working in the Obama Administration, and her optimism for the future.
Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker Greg Barker (Ghosts of Rwanda, Manhunt, Homegrown) talks about following President Barack Obama and other senior White House officials during the final 12 months of the Obama Administration for his new film THE FINAL YEAR. He reveals some of the heartbreaking humanitarian nightmares faced by UN Ambassador Samantha Power, what it was like for Secretary of State John Kerry to return to Vietnam 45 years after fought in the war there, and why President Obama chose Greece for his last overseas stop. He explains John Kerry's version of diplomatic speed dating, gives a fly on the wall perspective on the Syrian peace deal that never was, and discusses the Obama Administration’s fundamental miscalculation about Russian President Vladimir Putin. THE FINAL YEAR opens in theatres and on demand this Friday, January 19. For more information visit www.thefinalyearfilm.com and follow Greg Barker on twitter at @GJBarker. Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America are glad to see former UN Ambassador Samantha Power exposed for egregious "unmasking" of Americans detected on foreign surveillance, including a huge number just prior to President Trump's inauguration. They also cast a skeptical eye upon North Korea's threat to detonate a hydrogen bomb over the Pacific Ocean, but note the troubling impact it would have on the area and the prospects for war. And they express disgust as former CIA operative and liberal media darling Valerie Plame tweets out a story blaming "America's Jews" for America's Wars and suggesting American Jews recuse themselves from Middle East policy and be identified as Jews when speaking on television. They also roll their eyes at her pathetic explanation and wonder how her attitude played into her controversy at the outset of the Iraq War.
