What do you wish I asked this guest? What was your "quotable moment" from this episode? Have you ever wondered how to blend modern witchcraft with trauma-informed care? This episode of "Your Average Witch" features the incredible Megs Emerson, a Reiki master, yoga teacher, breathwork coach, and life coach. She shares her innovative approach to integrating yoga, breathwork, and energy work to help individuals heal from trauma and achieve alignment with their true aspirations. We'll also hear about Megs' perspective on imposter syndrome, the contemporary use of the term "witch," and her rich family history of energy workers and clairvoyants.Navigating the complexities of personal practice and community service is no small feat, particularly when battling imposter syndrome. Megs lays out the duality of service and the necessity of vocalizing doubts to diminish their power. Our conversation explores how balancing personal practices with parenting and being of service to others creates a fulfilling cycle of energy exchange. We delve into the grounding effects of witchcraft tools like breathwork and crystals, and Megs shares a memorable story about a whitewater rafting trip on the Zambezi River that underscores the profound impact of seemingly simple choices. To wrap things up, we discuss overcoming magical slumps, especially those influenced by menstrual or lunar cycles, through intentional nature engagement and digital detox. Megs advocates for compassionate dialogue within the witch community, emphasizing the importance of trauma-informed care in a post-pandemic world. She highlights influential figures like Starhawk and Pixie Lighthorse and offers practical advice for new practitioners. Emotional Expedition: A Journey of Healing with Meghan Thomas
I've had a really rough week and it was the kind of week that left me looking for the opportunity to cry. Instead of gravitating towards a movie, I decided to join a kirtan event at a local yoga studio. The live music was played with the lights lowered so you could only see other's silhouettes while you sit and go through your own internal journey. This experience was the opportunity I needed to be free. It was a beautiful moment of reverence. In this episode, we're unpacking admiration and reverence. I have some fun exercises you can do after you listen that will help guide your relationships, and spot in others what is true about us. Admiration often leads us to wanting to improve ourselves. Brene Brown defines admiration as when someone's abilities, accomplishments or character inspires us, or when we see something else that inspires us like art or nature. The important thing to keep top of mind is that admiration makes us want to improve. Thoughts and lessons shared in this episode: Ways to communicate admiration to the people you love How yoga and chanting allow for a deeper internal journey Dr. John Gottman's Sound Relationship House and the 7 floors Admiration and reverence are not the same The tricky part about reverence is that there is an upside and a negative side to it. In this episode you hear me explain why social media is being held reverent for some people which is dangerous and has mental health issues on the rise. Anything that demands reverence that is not open to being challenged or questioned is problematic. It doesn't mean that reverence doesn't appear during a yoga session to bring you to center and calm and beauty in the present moment. I hold many things as reverent, especially nature and religion. Reverence can foster a desire for connection to what we revere. We are back, together again, with some of our favorite poets to share with you: Nikita Gill, yung pueblo, Maya Angelou, Eckhart Tolle, Pixie Lighthorse, and nayyirah waheed. Together, we share how the inner critic creeps up, we talk about survivorship and what it means to share your words and your voice. We discuss how stuck we can get, and unpack the truth about art and language. It is important for us to honor these voices, and to share how reading aloud to each other changes us. We hope it brings you some hope as you venture forward.

We had a couple of technical and recording issues today, so this episode has some cuts and edits in between all the random parts of the conversations. Mother's Day has some powerful feelings and stress around it for many people. We dive right into discussing the pain and issues that old wounds bring up for us, about fitting into a perfect label. Talking about the fears and our feelings of worth is a part of this. Sometimes these feelings and traumas cut across generations, and shapes up that we need to work on ancestral healing and Healing the Mother Wound. Heather recommends Pixie Lighthorse's workshops at: https://www.pixielighthorse.com/transforming-mother-wound/Amy recommends "So You Think You're Intuitive" Podcast at: https://natalie-miles.com/podcasts/ Heather also recommends Mark Wolynn's "It Didn't Start With You" (https://www.markwolynn.com/book/)for working through family history and traumas. We're working on Listening and Facing Fears right now, working through the feelings and situations around us. We've made it through the "unknown" so far, and are using the things we've learned to help ourselves and our own mental health. We've both recently picked up Glennon Doyle's Untamed (https://untamedbook.com) and Amy highly recommends the daily conversations Glennon holds online.Amy shares a moment that Heather asked about a specific pain and how she dealt with it. Sometimes, if you can find the part of your body that feels the actual pain, then maybe that helps you to tune in to what's really going on. Our bodies tell us - headaches, gut-punches, bone-tired - how do you listen to your body? As human beings, feelings roll through us all day long. Why do we expect to always be happy or expect those around us to only be one emotion? Why do we apologize for saying "I'm having a hard time right now."? We both note that bullet journaling is not a fit for us because we can't just narrow it down to one feeling all day. Next we talk about chickens and chicken life, and how we're drawn to the winged creatures in our life. To wrap up today's chat, Amy talks about needing to make wax for her chalk painting line of waxes and paints, currently on sale at Gatherings in Georgetown. It's a multi-faceted conversation all around!

On unraveling blocks in the body, the healing that wants to come through you, and the merits of staying curious. Andi Keh is an artist and natural fabric dyer in Brooklyn, NY. She is the illustrator of The Moon Deck. Born and raised in Southern Indiana, her love for creating began as early as she can remember. Painting murals on her bedroom walls and drawing after school was her favorite pastime. At 20, she traveled and worked in fashion abroad in Italy and France, then followed her heart to NYC, where she received a degree in Textile/Surface Design in 2005. She married her love, William Keh, and became a full time mama of Ruby and West. She worked from home while also pursuing spiritual practices and yoga studies. She was certified as a Vinyasa yoga teacher through Yogamaya NYC, and taught family and private yoga classes. Divine timing led her to co-create The Moon Deck in 2014 — a world renowned oracle set of 44 illustrated cards + guidebook. Graphite drawing, watercolor painting and natural fabric dyeing with flowers and plant extracts are her mediums and techniques of choice. With the ebbs and flows of life and recently healing beyond breast cancer, her greatest intention is to use art as a means to share love, awakening and healing. It’s here! The last episode of the first season and I could not have been more honoured to have had the opportunity to share this space with the incredible Pixie Lighthorse.I have admired Pixie’s work since the moment a copy of Prayers of Honoring was gifted to me and her words are a constant in both my personal and professional practice. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt so seen, held and known in the pages of a book before, but they have a transformative essence about them and I encourage you all to take some time to get to know her incredible work.Cherie Dawn Carr writes as Pixie Lighthorse to honor the unheard voices of her Choctaw, Creek and Chickasaw ancestors. She’s the author of the Prayers of Honoring series, written to restore the bonds between people and nature while healing spiritual trauma. She recently wrote Goldmining the Shadows: Honoring the Medicine of Wounds, the companion to her 2017 book, Boundaries & Protection: Honoring Self, Honoring Others. She has created over forty-five online educational courses applying integrative transformative practice, animal and plant studies, and the Medicine Circle. Visual Quest, a painting course developed for online and live audiences to bring deeper meaning to creative processes. She found that teaching and talking to people about spirituality is challenging while we are possessed by our wounds, shadow, binary perceptions, boundaries violations, religious trauma and collective colonial violations. Her books aim to help individuals sort through the influences that block their connection to greater sources of peace and wisdom. As I mention on this episode, I’m taking a bit of a break but will be back with some AMAZING episodes for season two in early 2020. Thank you all, have a safe ride into the end of 2019.
Cherie Dawn Carr is the author of five books centered on self-healing through intimate relationship with the natural world. She is an enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. She writes as Pixie Lighthorse to honor the unheard voices of her ancestors. In today’s conversation, we talk about her new book Goldmining in the Shadows, which explores healing our inner selves and spirits so we can live more consciously today. We’re at a very particular and poignant time in our society, culture, and especially our political landscape, making this type of healing even more important. It’s also the holidays, which despite being a happy time for most, can bring up a lot of emotions, anger, and sadness. If you experience that, this episode might be the perfect pathway to understanding why we feel the way we feel and being the healing process. We also discuss: Finding a deeper sense of peace by going “in” and what that means. What a shamanic healer does /.; / How to create a foundation to in depth healing. What our shadows are and how to clean them out. Understanding what trauma is and the different types of traumatic events Why you don’t have to buy anything to healing, self-love, and self-care. It's much easier to ignore the darker parts of ourselves—the wounds, the fears, the biases, the anxieties. Sloshing around in our inner territory is scary, but there is freedom in the truth. And the more we can talk about our shadows without getting defensive, the more we can accept our humanness and start to heal ourselves and the world around us. Only then we can go deep AND go home to ourselves. Pixie Lighthorse is an artist, healer and author who uses words as medicine to “wander with people through the hard stuff.” Her most recent work, Goldmining the Shadows, primes us for an ongoing inner dialogue with damaging influences (both internal and external), so we can begin the process of liberation and restoration. On this episode, Pixie joins me to define what it means to do shadow work and explains why it's crucial to explore our own inner territory. Pixie describes our quest for balance between thinking/doing and feeling/being, offering insight around how to access the most truthful parts of ourselves from a liminal space. She also shares the idea of rigorous honesty, discussing how we can recognize our shadows as they come up, examine our subconscious biases, and avoid the push/pull in our relationships. Listen in to understand the role of rest in accessing clarity and wisdom—and learn how to liberate yourself by accepting what IS. Key Takeaways Pixie's work in wandering with people through the hard stuff How Pixie defines shadow work and why it's so crucial Why Pixie's best writing ideas come from the liminal space The quest for balance between thinking/doing + feeling/being The idea of rigorous honesty and how it impacts relationships How to examine our unconscious bias without defensiveness Recognizing shadows when we use absolutes or complain The danger in overidentifying with our specialization How we harm ourselves/others out of loyalty to our wounds Why we can't access clarity or wisdom when we're tired How communication makes room for cooperative experiences The shadow side of hope and how we use it as a mask Pixie's insight around the freedom of accepting what IS Connect with Pixie Pixie's Website Resources Goldmining the Shadows by Pixie Lighthorse Boundaries and Protection by Pixie Lighthorse Prayers of Honoring by Pixie Lighthorse Prayers of Honoring Voice by Pixie Lighthorse Prayers of Honoring Grief by Pixie Lighthorse Leesa Renee Hall Healing Night: The Science and Spirit of Sleeping, Dreaming, and Awakening by Rubin Naiman PhD Daring to Rest: Reclaim Your Power with Yoga Nidra Rest Meditation by Karen Brody Daring to Rest Sleep Series Yes to Rest Friday - Daring to Rest Yoga Nidra Naps for Women Facebook Group SHARE

In this episode of the Let's Be Naked Podcast, McKayla and Jenny talk with Karstee Davis. In our conversation, we delve into the power of receptive relationships (with ourselves and others), choosing to honor who we are in any given moment and how we can lean into our innate sense of wholeness. Karstee believes in radical vulnerability because depth, support and healing have had a profound impact on revealing all of her dynamic layers. She shares with beautiful candor about her journey learning to embrace a felt sense of femininity and how she has learned to fall compassionately in love with herself and share that with other people. This week on the podcast, Tammi and Sondra address a topic they felt reluctant to talk about as they didn't feel they had much to say until they started rolling: Boundaries. It was after they both looked at what their lives looked like before they got sober and could clearly see instances where they lacked boundaries that they could see how they are intentional and decisive in their lives now. They define boundaries, discuss examples of their power and usefulness and share how they are each working to strengthen boundaries in their lives. This week Sondra and Tammi share three items from their Unruffled Toolboxes: Sondra: (1) Freethinkers' meeting; (2) Church; and (3) Attending to micro-goals. Tammi: (1) Boundaries + Protection by Pixie Lighthorse; (2) Beta-blockers; and (3) Studio purge.
Episode 58: This Is Us In this week's episode, Tammi and Sondra check-in on four subjects: sobriety, health, family and creativity. From Sobriety 2.0 to breaking through creative blocks, they catch up on the year thus far. They hope you will hang with them as they chat, high-five and commiserate as only two creative, sober sisters can. This week Sondra and Tammi share three items from their Unruffled Toolboxes: Sondra: (1) Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza; (2) Going to see live music; (3) Goddesses Never Age by Dr. Christiane Northrup Tammi: (1) Invincible Living by Guru Jagat; (2) Boundaries + Protection by Pixie Lighthorse; and (3) The Woman's Way Through the 12 Steps by Stephanie S. Covington, Ph.D.
Pixie Lighthorse mothers the nurture-deficient world by teaching Earth Medicine theory and skills. Her educational programs are used by helpers and healers to advance in their fields of study, as well as by individuals in the self-healing process. She is the author of the Prayers of Honoring series, written to restore the bonds between people and nature while healing spiritual trauma. In 2017, she completed her third book, Boundaries & Protection: Honoring Self, Honoring Others. She has created and taught over forty online educational courses applying integrative shamanism, animal and plant studies, and the Medicine Wheel. She also developed a shamanic painting course entitled Visual Quest for online and live audiences. She defines Earth Medicine is the accumulated learnings modeled by nature: the creatures, plants and geology which make up our world.
