For the last 30 years, the real world has been catching up to Neal Stephenson's vision of the future in his 1992 novel Snow Crash, which influenced the creators of Google Earth, Second Life, Oculus Rift and more. Now the centerpiece of the novel, a virtual world called The Metaverse, may become a daily part of our lives thanks to Facebook (renamed Meta) and other big tech companies. I talk with Meta's director of A.I. policy Kevin Bankston, Silicon Valley engineer Stephen Pimentel, Australian National University School of Cybernetics director Genevieve Bell, Yale professor Lisa Messeri, and Grace Ng of the DAO Crash Punks about whether it's a good idea to use a satirical cyberpunk novel as a blueprint for the future. Plus, actor Varick Boyd reads from Snow Crash. Our 200th Episode is coming up! We'd love to hear from you, especially if you have listened to Imaginary Worlds in a place that's evocative of imaginary worlds, or if a particular episode spoke to you and maybe inspired a creative work. Leave us a voice mail at 732-743-8255, and we might use your audio in the 200th episode. You can also send a voice memo to the show's Facebook or Instagram accounts. Greetings, this is Kaitlin Statz, the writer and creator of VAST Horizon. And I'm Travis Vengroff, the sound designer and producer… We greatly appreciate our nomination for the AVA's this year and are excited to share the first episode of our third season – Lark, in which Nolira has been framed for the theft of 40,000 embryos by a VAST alien entity. VAST Horizon is the story of one woman's fight for survival against the void of space… In season one our protagonist Dr. Nolira Eck was set adrift after a catastrophic incident left her as the lone survivor of the technology colony ship: Bifrost. Injured and alone, Nolira and the ship's AI were able to rescue the ship's most important asset, it's embryo vast before meeting Sanon, a war criminal and the only other survivor on the ship. A few weeks have passed since her rescue, and now, working through Nolria, the vast entity has forced the crew of the rescue ship, the OTV Walton, to evacuate if they are to rescue the 400,000 colonists of the Bifrost. The show is rated PG-13 for violence and occasional language, and features a talented cast hailing from six continents who help us bring this story to life. So, get ready to experience new things, new skies, and new people in VAST Horizon. Transcript can be found at: https://www.patreon.com/posts/vast-horizon-27244373 http://vasthorizonpodcast.com/ Twitter: @VASTPodcast
Greetings Adventurers,Next Thursday and Friday, Brandon Boon and I will be in Budapest recording the choir and orchestra, so tonight we'd like to share something special with you. If you're listening to this, then odds are, that you enjoy hearing the voices of Soren Arkwright, Iaus Innskeep, Father Westpike, Flygia, and Rowena, and while I'm DESPERATELY working to bring you new episodes, I wanted to share a hidden treasure-trove with you tonight - the story that is literally how we all met started Dark Dice. It's called - The White Vault, a full-cast horror audio drama podcast written by Kaitlin Statz, the voice of Sister Cavernsfall, with sound design by yours truly... The White Vault's main story is five seasons long, and I'm bringing it to your attention now because we are about to launch our FINAL season next month in October, and members of our Patreon team that month, at any pledge level, are going to be mailed an exclusive rocker patch. So if you were going to decide to start The White Vault and happen to really love it, now would be that time, and you would still have a few weeks to make the decision. But what's it about? Your favorite voices, mentioned earlier, are a research team that's stuck in a small outpost in the Arctic... trapped in a blizzard in one of the most remote places on earth, they discover that they are not alone, and that something terrible is lurking just beneath the ice...You're about to hear our first episode: Fristed, and if you enjoy it you can hear more by subscribing to The White Vault wherever you listen to podcasts, or you can hear it, and all of our shows, ad free by subscribing to our patreon. Well, I'll get back working on Dark Dice, but in the meantime please enjoy The White Vault and remember that TRAVEL IS NOT ADVISED.This is a Fool and Scholar Production. You can also check out our other shows like The White Vault, Vast Horizon, and Liberty!Free Transcripts are also available: https://www.patreon.com/posts/dark-dice-22460850 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
https://www.patreon.com/FoolandScholarHey Everyone,It‘s Travis here, the producer, editor, and sound designer, of VAST Horzon. As some of you are aware, Kaitlin and I recently moved 4,000 miles from the US to Germany, and as a result of the efforts required to successfully make such a move, we‘ve needed a little bit of extra time to get everything we need to accomplish done. I‘ve been working from roughly 9am till ten or 11 at night every day, weekends included, with intermittent breaks throughout the day, but in addition to VAST, Kaitlin and I are creating The White Vault: Avrum, The White Vault Season 5, and Dark Dice. While I am absolutely committed to doing everything within my power to get the work done on time, for the last two episodes, aka the last month, I‘ve been a bit underwater playing catchup.I hope to have the next episode of VAST Horizon in your earbuds by next week and sincerely appreciate your patience. For additional information on our move, the transition process, and to listen to some of the other shows we‘re making, you can find a link to our Patreon page in the show notes. The updates and some of the behind the scenes posts are freely available, and it should give you a bit more of a detailed perspective on just how much work goes into producing a single episode.Thank you so much again for your patience. We look forward to sharing new people, new life, and new worlds with you soon.-Travis See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Greetings this is Kaitlin Statz the writer and creator of VAST Horizon. And I'm Travis Vengroff, the Producer and Sound Designer. We greatly appreciate our nomination for the AVA Awards this year and are proud to share the first episode of our second season - Recovery. VAST Horizon is the story of one woman's fight for survival against the void of space. In season 1 our protagonist, Dr. Nolira Eck was set adrift after a catastrophic incident left her as the lone survivor of the Technocracy ship Bifrost. Injured and alone Nolria and the Ship's AI were able to rescue the Bifrost's most important asset, its embryonic vats before meeting Sanon, a war criminal and the only other survivor on the ship. Both survivors have now been rescued but not before Nolira has been seriously injured. Now between consciousness, memories, and nightmares, we start the second episode of this season - Recovery. The show is rated PG 13 for violence and occasional language, and features a talented cast hailing from 6 continents who help us bring this story to life.
