Have you ever made Kool-Aid and noticed how the sugary goodness settles to the bottom if left unstirred? That's exactly what happens to our spiritual lives when we forget the urgency of Christ's return. In this powerful message from 2 Peter 3:8-13, we explore how easily Christians can become "settled" rather than "stirred" in their faith.Peter writes specifically to believers—not unbelievers—warning about scoffers who mock the promise of Christ's return by saying "all things continue as they were from the beginning." These "doubt evangelists" deliberately overlook God's past judgment through the flood and His promised future judgment through fire. When we adopt their thinking, even subtly, our spiritual fervor settles to the bottom of our lives. What feels like God's slowness is actually His extraordinary patience. With stunning imagery, God is depicted as still "inhaling" before the exhale of judgment, giving time for repentance. This patience isn't a sign of His inability or reluctance but of His incredible grace toward us. The day of the Lord will come "like a thief"—unexpectedly and without warning—with the heavens passing away with a roar and everything exposed. We're witnessing unprecedented spiritual movements globally: massive revivals across Africa, Asia, and South America; Bible translations reaching completion in nearly all known languages; and even young men returning to churches in America seeking godly direction. These aren't ordinary times—they're extraordinary moments calling for extraordinary faith. When asked how they feel about Christ's return, some believers responded with "fear" and "judgment" while others said "excitement" and "hope." This stark contrast reveals much about whether our faith is settled or stirred. Rather than merely waiting passively, Peter calls us to both "wait for and hasten" Christ's coming through lives of holiness and active participation in God's mission. What would change if you truly believed Jesus might return today? Would you live differently? Would your priorities shift? Don't let the spiritual nutrients of God's truth settle unused at the bottom of your life. Take up Peter's challenge to be stirred in your faith, living with joyful anticipation of the day when righteousness will dwell in new heavens and a new earth. Exodus Series Week 8. Building something remarkable isn't just about materials; it's about heart. What stirs yours for a greater cause? Discover the beauty of spirit-led generosity and how a stirred heart leads to open hands. Let's build the kingdom together.
The sermon emphasizes the transformative power of faith, using the lives of biblical figures such as Abraham, Moses, Elijah, Job, and Peter as examples. Brothers Jerran and Kris highlight how the faith of the saints of old, initially shaken by fear, doubt, and trials, evolved into a steadfast and unshakeable resolve. This journey from shaken to stirred faith is portrayed as a cyclical process, where we can learn to trust and depend on God, even in our weakest moments. The heart of the sermon is a call to embrace this stirring of faith, to live boldly and faithfully for God's glory, and to inspire others to magnify heaven's cause.

Sunday Morning Service
The Sixth Sunday of Easter. The Rev. John Kennedy takes us deep into a curious Easter gospel that feels more like Lent than Resurrection Sunday. Why does Jesus ask a man if he wants to be healed—and why doesn't the man seem to answer? What happens when healing comes, but gratitude and transformation don't follow? With wit, wisdom, and a touch of holy disruption, Fr. John explores what it means to truly desire the new life Christ offers.

Listeners of our show know of our love for Led Zeppelin and their iconic lead singer, Robert Plant. Already this year we've devoted 2 shows to Physical Graffiti as it turned 50, a show on The Firm's debut album featuring Jimmy Page and one on the documentary Becoming Led Zeppelin which is now available on streaming services. And though we've reviewed several classic Zeppelin albums, we've also gone track x track on Unledded, Robert's reunion with Jimmy Page in 1994, and his first two solo efforts. Based on the strength of Pictures at 11 and The Principle of Moments and the fact that Robert was working with the same bandmates, we thought it only right that we review his 3rd solo effort, Shaken N Stirred. However, Shaken N Stirred found Robert yearning for a more modern and synthesized sound which is not only different from his first two solo albums but not in the wheelhouse of his talented bandmates. In an effort to sound more like Talking Heads, Robert embraced the latest technology and styles of the day. The result is not only a departure from his signature sound but a miss in making a record that would sound good in 1985, nevermind 40 years later. While Little By Little was a hit in the US (#1 Mainstream Rock), the rest of the record is a mish mash of sounds that don't necessarily make listenable songs. The listening public in the US revolted against the 2nd single Too Loud and rock fans in Chicago demanded that they "Get that sh*t off the air!" While we admire artists for going in new directions and not wanting to be stuck by what the public deems as "their sound", this album didn't win Robert any new fans and alienated many that he already had. With that in mind, we did our best to pick out what we did like and tried to understand what Robert was attempting to do. Amidst the backdrop of his marriage ending and his unsure footing in the music world post Led Zeppelin, this one stands out in his catalog as one maybe he wishes he could do over (or at least we wish he would). Robert would continue to reinvent himself throughout his career with some amazing results. But as this misstep turns 40, we dive into what went wrong. Me and Rob have known each other since the early early days, back when I was still a competitive flair bartender in the 1990s, and together with fellow OGs Dean Serneels and Deborah Richards, he's just created and premiered the world's first documentary about flair, "Shaken & Stirred", so it was high time we had a chat. We talked about the wild network that was flair, before this Second Golden Age of mixology was properly underway: travelling the world, yard days, why - and how - flair makes you humble in a way mixology does not, why revolutions start with sledgehammers and end with scalpels, the USBG & IBA, speed contests anno 2025, freepouring and a whole bunch more, including of course the making of the documentary and how Deborah is actually an old mate of mine!Download or stream "Shaken & Stirred" here: https://www.shakenandstirredthemovie.com/Rob on IG: https://www.instagram.com/theflairambassador/Rob's website: http://bartendbetternow.com/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR5C9RrOaKGY4UNXdZCqIV4LwxlSU_QWaLZxQyJ4gsxPYB53HSFgDUORTQU51Q_aem_bHsvfis_mbeqj9GMjPiFqgRob on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/flairbar?mibextid=wwXIfr&mibextid=wwXIfrRob on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/theflairambassador Get in touch with Duff!Podcast business enquiries: consulting@liquidsolutions.org (PR friends: we're only interested in having your client on if they can talk for a couple of hours about OTHER things than their prepared speaking points or their new thing, whatever that is, for a few hours. Stephanie engages in a heartfelt conversation with renowned worship leader Darlene Zschech, who likes to remind us that learning to trust God is a superpower! Darlene invites us into a life of authentic worship. She challenges us to cultivate a heart rooted in humility, to pursue genuine connection with God, and to understand the profound impact of living a life centered around worship. Darlene emphasizes the necessity of approaching worship without pressure or performance. She underscores that God's love is unconditional and is not influenced by our achievements or failures. This invites us to worship and create from a place of freedom, where we can focus on building a sincere relationship with God rather than seeking approval or validation from others. Darlene shares her own journey, highlighting how she learned to adore God not for His gifts or as a task to check off, but simply to be in His presence. God's delight in us is not contingent upon our accomplishments, but is inherent to our relationship with Him. Engaging with God without any agenda other than presence leads to an authentic worship experience. Darlene's wisdom reminds us that trusting God is a superpower. Her personal experiences, including battling cancer, illustrate God's faithfulness and the necessity of discerning His voice. Humility in worship is non-negotiable. Darlene speaks to the trap of self-sufficiency, particularly for those naturally inclined to leadership and capability. She insists on the importance of shedding self-reliance and embracing humility to fully trust and depend on God. In a world craving attention, Darlene values the hidden life and the importance of remaining true to worship's essence. Her journey reminds us to fight for a culture of truth and humility. Darlene's experiences illustrate the significance of nurturing deep roots in God's Word and maintaining accountability in our faith walk. She cautions against the allure of fame and the pressure to create commercialized versions of worship, advocating instead for a focus on genuine expression that aligns with God's heart. Darlene's testimony of God's faithfulness during her battle with cancer is particularly moving, as she reminds us to trust both God's whisper and shouts alike. Nurturing a close relationship with God prepares us to discern His guidance during pivotal moments. Stephanie asks Darlene about the church's role in cultivating worship leaders. Darlene stresses the importance of mentoring and discipleship within worship teams, encouraging leaders to uphold a culture of truth, confidence, and humility. This environment ensures that the focus remains on facilitating worship towards God rather than self-glorification. Darlene's experience with Christians in India teaches us about true devotion and reliance on God. When comfort isn't an option, desperation calls out to God, showcasing His incredible faithfulness. Here are some of the key insights Stephanie will remember from her conversation with Darlene. Make them your own, or add some more! 1. Embrace Your Identity in Christ: God loves you unconditionally, regardless of your actions or achievements. 2. Delight in God's Presence: Prioritize spending time with God, not just for what you can gain, but for simply being with Him. 3. Practice Humility and Confidence: Strive for the combination of these qualities in your faith and life. 4. Cultivate a Life of Worship: Lead others to focus on God's worth, not your own abilities. 5. Seek to Align Desires with God's Will: Spend time in His word to align your heart with His plan. 6. Nurture a Hidden Life: Value your private relationship with God over public recognition. 7. Be Anchored in a Sure Foundation: Start each day with devotion and prayer, positioning yourself for what the day brings. 8. Serve with Excellence: Honor God through high standards in your work, recognizing Him as the source of your abilities. 9. Surrender to God's Will: Continually submit your life to Him and trust in His faithfulness. 10. Remember God's Faithfulness: Regularly reflect on and remember His past faithfulness as a source of encouragement. 11. Lead by Example in Worship: Facilitate a genuine connection between people and God, elevating them to see His worth. 12. Guard Your Heart: Continually examine and protect your heart against pride and complacency. 13. Embrace the Power of Influence: Use influence responsibly and to glorify God, while ensuring roots are deep in His word. 14. Remain Teachable: Continuously seek mentorship and embrace correction and growth. 15. Trust God Beyond Self-Reliance: Let go of self-sufficiency and put trust fully in God, who desires to guide your path. 16. Value Discipleship and Community: Learn from and contribute to the community around you for spiritual growth. It also features many artists like Martin Smith, SVRICINA, Mitch Wong, and Michael W. Smith among others, as well as various choirs and the Australian Christian Orchestra, creating an expansive and eclectic project filled with the sound of praise, thanksgiving, and rich collaboration. This album embodies Zschech's story and her experience of God's unfailing love, not only in worship ministry but in each intricate details of her life too. It's a family project, described by the artist as “songs that have deep meaning to my family, that have helped shape me and kept my focus heavenward.” “Testament” weaves together songs that have been the soundtrack to her children's lives, her battle with cancer, and her adventures planting churches and starting non-profits alongside her husband. It also features multiple family members, including Zschech's daughter, Zoe Cameron, on “Shout to the Lord.” Commenting on this central song, which was penned before Zoe's birth, Zschech said: “I wrote it quickly while crying out to God about our future, saying that no matter what, we will follow him. I was young in age and young in God. ‘Shout to the Lord' changed things around us, but the things that really matter never changed and never will: God is faithful and attentive to our prayers.” Harnessing this central theme of faithfulness, “Testament” communicates its close relationship to obedience and thankfulness. It's the sound flowing out of a lifetime lived with the Lord, the very meaning of worship. Zschech is adamant that worship is not a genre but the whole of one's life poured out for the glory of God: “I'll always find it hard to wrap my head around the miracle of worship, music, and song. There's really no other vehicle available to us on earth that has the ability to bring to attention our mind, auditory senses, resting our hearts, moving the soul and spirit to a point when your whole self is pointed in the one direction. Such is the power of worship as the Holy Spirit leads our heart heavenward, Jesus-ward, through the magnificent sound of sacred song.” “Testament” is not just about memories, but it's a statement that worship leads to encountering Christ afresh in every moment. Zschech's prayer is that this collection of songs would play a part in people's story as they too are reminded of God's incredible faithfulness. A swift drop in investor and consumer sentiment rattled the ‘Immaculate Rotation' from growth to value stocks, sending the stock market off of record highs. But that hasn't stopped retail traders from rushing back into the stock market at levels approaching 2021 highs in search of dips across mega cap tech, A.I. and consumer discretionary stocks. Is our timing as bad as it was during Roaring Kitty's heydays? Plus, Warren Buffett's annual shareholder letter dropped Saturday with its usual dose of wisdom and humility. But it's hard to be humble when your holding companies generated $47 billion in operating profit last year, and you are sitting on $343 billion in cash. https://www.investopedia.com/what-to-expect-in-the-markets-this-week-11683487 https://www.investopedia.com/berkshire-hathaway-earnings-q4-fy24-warren-buffett-11684624 https://www.investopedia.com/featured/original/investopedia-explains https://www.bespokepremium.com/interactive/research/think-big-blog/ https://www.vandaresearch.com/news/ https://berkshirehathaway.com/2024ar/2024ar.pdf Learn more about your ad choices. Nationalism, patriotism, cultural identity, a sense of home; these are concepts and ideas whose popularity have ebbed and flowed throughout history. Nationalism has been seen as a natural expression of cultural identity and pride, and it also has been at the core of virulent racism and xenophobia. Patriotism has been used as a cudgel by all sides of the political spectrum for good and evil, and a sense of home has led to cultural explosions and also to some of the bloodiest wars of all time. For Bedrich Smetana, these concepts were extremely multi-layered. He was a proud Bohemian nationalist for much of his life, but he also barely spoke Czech(German was the lingua franca among educated classes in Prague), and he was also disenchanted with the Prague musical establishment due to their cool reception of his Wagnerian/Lisztian style. He even left Prague for a time to work in Gothenburg Sweden, writing curtly to his parents: “Prague did not wish to acknowledge me, so I left it.” But only 6 years later, he wrote again to a friend: "My home has rooted itself into my heart so much that only there do I find real contentment. It is to this that I will sacrifice myself." Stirred to patriotic and nationalistic sentiments, Smetana began studying the Czech language in earnest, and his second opera, The Bartered Bride, became the first Czech opera to enter the mainstream repertoire around Europe. It was a piece fully in Czech style, and even though Smetana battled to the end of his life with different members of the Prague musical establishment, he is still thought of today as the founder of the Czech national sound. This is even before we begin talking about the topic for today, Ma Vlast, which is commonly translated to My Fatherland, My Country, or My Homeland. Ma Vlast is a massive, nearly hour and a half long work that amalgamates Wagnerian and Listzian ideas of a tone poem along with nationalistic music that has stirred not only the Czech soul but the souls of people all around the world. As Semyon Bychkov, the great Russian conductor and current Music Director of the Czech Philharmonic says: “The core subject of this piece is home and the meaning of home; everything else is the gravy.” Today on the show we'll begin by talking about Smetana's tragic experience of deafness, and then we'll go through each movement of his huge piece, talking about the msuic from the perspecitve of nationalism and also Wagnerian ideas of leitmotifs as well as orchestration and style.
