Stirred to Give: When God Puts Something in Your Hands In today's message, we walk through the powerful journey of Israel from Exodus 12 to Exodus 36 — and what it teaches us about obedience, stewardship, and the condition of our hearts.God never intended for His people to walk into freedom empty-handed.In Exodus 12, the Israelites leave Egypt carrying silver, gold, and garments, blessings placed in their hands by God Himself. But the real question is: What do we do with what God gives us?When God blesses us, we often start to feel like owners instead of stewards. From Exodus 13–24, the people lived selfishly, and by Exodus 25, when God calls them to bring an offering, their hearts weren't ready. And like Israel in Exodus 32, when what we have isn't surrendered to God, it becomes something that demands our worship. But everything changes in Exodus 35.Hearts were stirred. Spirits became willing. Obedience returned. And the result? In Exodus 36, the people brought more than enough — so much that Moses had to tell them to stop giving. Imagine a church overflowing with generosity because hearts were stirred by the Spirit of God!This message challenges us to ask:
"Martini. Gin, not vodka, obviously. Stirred for 10 seconds while glancing at an unopened bottle of vermouth. Thank you."
Peter reminds believers to stay rooted in God's Word and remain vigilant against false teaching by remembering what they already know to be true. Through Scripture and the authority of Jesus' words, we are equipped to stand firm in faith.
We are almost at Halloween and the CBB boys are back with another new audio episode! Since the last episode was horror themed, we opted to travel down our familiar round table route for this one. Join us to hear Caleb, Bill Z and Steve talk about a host of new comics! Both DC and Marvel have new crossover events starting up so we first discuss DC K.O. #1 (and the prologue issues associated with it - Justice League Unlimited #11 and Justice League: The Omega Act Special #1) and X-Men of Apocalypse: Alpha #1! Two Image books are on our spinner rack in the form of the first issues of Good as Dead and News from the Fallout. We also check out the new body-swap book Flip by Ngozi Ukazu and published by First Second. Lastly, we are thrilled to discuss the espionage-based graphic novel Shaken and Stirred written by good friend of the show Steve Bryant with art by Rob Jones! So hit play - we promise no tricks and all treats!

The difference between a believer who's settled and one who's stirred is who's in control. Many Christians may carry the Spirit but never allow Him to move freely in their lives. God doesn't want to be an accessory to your plans; He wants to become your center. When He becomes preeminent, every part of your life begins to align under His leadership. The Holy Spirit stops being something you have and becomes Someone who has you. That's when faith turns from information to transformation. Have you ever made Kool-Aid and noticed how the sugary goodness settles to the bottom if left unstirred? That's exactly what happens to our spiritual lives when we forget the urgency of Christ's return. In this powerful message from 2 Peter 3:8-13, we explore how easily Christians can become "settled" rather than "stirred" in their faith.Peter writes specifically to believers—not unbelievers—warning about scoffers who mock the promise of Christ's return by saying "all things continue as they were from the beginning." These "doubt evangelists" deliberately overlook God's past judgment through the flood and His promised future judgment through fire. When we adopt their thinking, even subtly, our spiritual fervor settles to the bottom of our lives. What feels like God's slowness is actually His extraordinary patience. With stunning imagery, God is depicted as still "inhaling" before the exhale of judgment, giving time for repentance. This patience isn't a sign of His inability or reluctance but of His incredible grace toward us. The day of the Lord will come "like a thief"—unexpectedly and without warning—with the heavens passing away with a roar and everything exposed. We're witnessing unprecedented spiritual movements globally: massive revivals across Africa, Asia, and South America; Bible translations reaching completion in nearly all known languages; and even young men returning to churches in America seeking godly direction. These aren't ordinary times—they're extraordinary moments calling for extraordinary faith. When asked how they feel about Christ's return, some believers responded with "fear" and "judgment" while others said "excitement" and "hope." This stark contrast reveals much about whether our faith is settled or stirred. Rather than merely waiting passively, Peter calls us to both "wait for and hasten" Christ's coming through lives of holiness and active participation in God's mission. What would change if you truly believed Jesus might return today? Would you live differently? Would your priorities shift? Don't let the spiritual nutrients of God's truth settle unused at the bottom of your life. Take up Peter's challenge to be stirred in your faith, living with joyful anticipation of the day when righteousness will dwell in new heavens and a new earth. The sermon emphasizes the transformative power of faith, using the lives of biblical figures such as Abraham, Moses, Elijah, Job, and Peter as examples. Brothers Jerran and Kris highlight how the faith of the saints of old, initially shaken by fear, doubt, and trials, evolved into a steadfast and unshakeable resolve. This journey from shaken to stirred faith is portrayed as a cyclical process, where we can learn to trust and depend on God, even in our weakest moments. The heart of the sermon is a call to embrace this stirring of faith, to live boldly and faithfully for God's glory, and to inspire others to magnify heaven's cause.

And salt on the reptile...por favor.
Listeners of our show know of our love for Led Zeppelin and their iconic lead singer, Robert Plant. Already this year we've devoted 2 shows to Physical Graffiti as it turned 50, a show on The Firm's debut album featuring Jimmy Page and one on the documentary Becoming Led Zeppelin which is now available on streaming services. And though we've reviewed several classic Zeppelin albums, we've also gone track x track on Unledded, Robert's reunion with Jimmy Page in 1994, and his first two solo efforts. Based on the strength of Pictures at 11 and The Principle of Moments and the fact that Robert was working with the same bandmates, we thought it only right that we review his 3rd solo effort, Shaken N Stirred. However, Shaken N Stirred found Robert yearning for a more modern and synthesized sound which is not only different from his first two solo albums but not in the wheelhouse of his talented bandmates. In an effort to sound more like Talking Heads, Robert embraced the latest technology and styles of the day. The result is not only a departure from his signature sound but a miss in making a record that would sound good in 1985, nevermind 40 years later. While Little By Little was a hit in the US (#1 Mainstream Rock), the rest of the record is a mish mash of sounds that don't necessarily make listenable songs. The listening public in the US revolted against the 2nd single Too Loud and rock fans in Chicago demanded that they "Get that sh*t off the air!" While we admire artists for going in new directions and not wanting to be stuck by what the public deems as "their sound", this album didn't win Robert any new fans and alienated many that he already had. With that in mind, we did our best to pick out what we did like and tried to understand what Robert was attempting to do. Amidst the backdrop of his marriage ending and his unsure footing in the music world post Led Zeppelin, this one stands out in his catalog as one maybe he wishes he could do over (or at least we wish he would). Robert would continue to reinvent himself throughout his career with some amazing results. But as this misstep turns 40, we dive into what went wrong. Nationalism, patriotism, cultural identity, a sense of home; these are concepts and ideas whose popularity have ebbed and flowed throughout history. Nationalism has been seen as a natural expression of cultural identity and pride, and it also has been at the core of virulent racism and xenophobia. Patriotism has been used as a cudgel by all sides of the political spectrum for good and evil, and a sense of home has led to cultural explosions and also to some of the bloodiest wars of all time. For Bedrich Smetana, these concepts were extremely multi-layered. He was a proud Bohemian nationalist for much of his life, but he also barely spoke Czech(German was the lingua franca among educated classes in Prague), and he was also disenchanted with the Prague musical establishment due to their cool reception of his Wagnerian/Lisztian style. He even left Prague for a time to work in Gothenburg Sweden, writing curtly to his parents: “Prague did not wish to acknowledge me, so I left it.” But only 6 years later, he wrote again to a friend: "My home has rooted itself into my heart so much that only there do I find real contentment. It is to this that I will sacrifice myself." Stirred to patriotic and nationalistic sentiments, Smetana began studying the Czech language in earnest, and his second opera, The Bartered Bride, became the first Czech opera to enter the mainstream repertoire around Europe. It was a piece fully in Czech style, and even though Smetana battled to the end of his life with different members of the Prague musical establishment, he is still thought of today as the founder of the Czech national sound. This is even before we begin talking about the topic for today, Ma Vlast, which is commonly translated to My Fatherland, My Country, or My Homeland. Ma Vlast is a massive, nearly hour and a half long work that amalgamates Wagnerian and Listzian ideas of a tone poem along with nationalistic music that has stirred not only the Czech soul but the souls of people all around the world. As Semyon Bychkov, the great Russian conductor and current Music Director of the Czech Philharmonic says: “The core subject of this piece is home and the meaning of home; everything else is the gravy.” Today on the show we'll begin by talking about Smetana's tragic experience of deafness, and then we'll go through each movement of his huge piece, talking about the msuic from the perspecitve of nationalism and also Wagnerian ideas of leitmotifs as well as orchestration and style. Join us! Recording: Czech Philharmonic conducted by Rafael Kubelik
