Once again we are opening the cockpit back up and letting you join us for our monthly interstitial conversation. This time around we deep dive into a pair of concepts. Genres and kayfabe. Come along as we discuss the idea of separating movies, music, games and everything else into smaller categories based on only a handful of categories and when we exhaust the well of what use genres are we turn to the subject of kayfabe, an idea that is mostly rooted in wrestling but in many ways has wormed it's way all through the internet. We also vaguely discuss the interaction between fans and the creation of art but that's more a segue than an actual topic. All of this and more this month inside the cockpit! The Copilots Review Patreon page --> PatreonNew episodes on the 2nd and 22nd of every month, with interstitial episodes released on the 12th.You can find us on YouTube. New baby on the way, new music out on his birthday. That's what the first couple of weeks of February look like for Vic Fuentes. He even found time to talk to Brock about their long awaited new release "Jaws Of Life." From the full on pedal to the floor "Pass The Nirvana" to the kinder gentler "Emergency Contact" Vic discusses how each album and each song is snapshot of a moment in time. Wonder what is in the bottom of that garage freezer? Does wearing soggy socks suck? These and many other questions will be answered on this episode of DNM. Vic Fuentes is the frontman of US band, Pierce The Veil. The group's fifth studio album, "The Jaws of Life", is out everywhere on February 10, 2023.
I met Vic and the guys from PTV when they came through Detroit just before Thanksgiving. After talking with them after the show, I knew I wanted to get him on the podcast/videocast. We talk about him becoming a father for the first time, the U.K. touring and touring with I Prevail. We talk a lot about the upcoming album, The Jaws Of Life. Why so long between albums? Where the record was written and recorded and why. A really cool vinyl copy of the album that's coming out, hometown shows, and LOTS more. We also talked about his Living The Dream Foundation, which you can check out below. I love when guys in Vic's position think of other people and create experiences for them that they might not have had. Isles & Glaciers- The Hearts of Lonely People was released March 9, 2010. This album is amazing because it was a collaboration by some of the most talented musicians of the early 2000's emo music scene. It is unique because it is fronted by three of the scene's most iconic frontmen: Craig Owens, Jonny Craig, and Vic Fuentes. Looking back at this album, ten years later, I can honestly say "records aren't made like they used to be." Drew Roulette, artist and bassist of Dredg, created this iconic album cover. He chats with us about his inspiration to this album artwork, how he created it, and more. Thank you so much for clicking into this video. Curtis Peoples is a pop artist and singer/songwriter with a defined understanding of how to create dynamic yet radio friendly music that fans of both rock and pop can enjoy equally.Curtis' self titled first album was produced by Marshall Altman (Matt Nathanson, Kate Voegele, Marc Broussard) and featured songs co-written by Curtis and writers such as Ryan Tedder, Tyler Hilton, and Vic Fuentes. Marshall even liked the finished product so much that he decided to put the album out on his very own Galtline/The Control Group/ADA label. In the last eighteen months Curtis has traveled between LA, NY, and Nashville crafting and recording great new songs to put on his second album. He worked with a number of great writers during this process including Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift), Josh Kelley, Kevin Griffin (Better Than Ezra, Howie Day), Mozella (Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball"), Mark Weinberg (Matt Nathanson), David Hodges (Kelly Clarkson, Evanescence), and busbee (Lady Antebellum, Pink, Keith Urban).
