Thank You To Our Partners, The Institute, AutoFlow, AutoLeap, Shop Dog Marketing, In-BoundWatch Full Video EpisodeIn our episode today…I want to discuss the benefits of the recent camping trip my wife and I enjoyed in Northern Michigan. As our listeners well understand - we talk a lot about getting outside our comfort zones on this podcast - and while that is usually in the context of practicing our communication skills, today, the topic is more about stepping AWAY… Specifically from people, electronics, and modern comforts or modes of transportation, and instead highlight the benefits of immersing yourself in nature and rebooting your mind.My wife, Betsy, and I did our stepping away together by stepping onto a ferryboat and taking a nearly 2-hour trip West into Lake Michigan. We traveled from Fishtown in Leland (tip of the pinky on the Michigan map) and docked at South Manitou Island, where we would hike and camp with only the things we carried.South Manitou is a 10-mile circumference, barely inhabited island in the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. Its pristine fresh water is as blue as the Caribbean, just not as warm!If our adventure intrigues you, you'll enjoy this episode, as I hope to challenge and encourage you to seek out a similar type of adventure, as well as learn why I think this topic merits greater emphasis in our modern lives, now more than ever.Today's WOTD is: GarrulousGAIR-uh-lusadjectiveContaining many and often too many words.Talkative. Verbosity.“He delivered a rather garrulous speech.”Some Context:This camping trip has been on the calendar for me and my wife most of the year. Our anniversary gift(s) to ourselves has involved a mix of ordering camping gear online -to frequent trips to REI.What's important to note is that I have virtually no real experience ‘camping' or ‘backpacking.'Sure, I am into rucking as a fitness regime, and that builds strength to carry heavy loads long distances - hiking and backpacking involve practical gear, and as light a load as you can possibly make to bring what you need to survive. Our goals were threefold. 1.) Unplug and disconnect from devices, noise, and distraction2.) Immerse ourselves in nature3.) Reboot and return refreshed - with the “Three Day Effect” (which we'll explain)My hope was that this will improve for my wife and I both, our creative minds, our ability to focus and solve problems, and in general become more adept with backpacking and camping to take longer adventures together!UNPLUG:On the goal of disconnecting:Listen. I've felt like stepping away from constant connection for a while now.I've done something of an Irish Goodbye with Facebook. That is, I never said anything, I just sort of left it. There are so many reasons, many of which our Speak Up listeners are familiar with. Despite benefiting from a social media presence in my career, I am no fan of social media.I could tell you more about alarming statistics of wasted human time (i.e. that the equivalent of 200,000 entire human lifetimes are spent endlessly scrolling social media)I could talk about how companies like Meta are harvesting every piece of data they can about you to manipulate you to a.) spend more time on their ecosystem and b.) spend money with their advertisers.I could tell you I'm sick of being distracted…But the real catalyst for me was regarding some exchanges I observed among even respected friends. Public disputes were becoming more common - toxic groupthink was becoming more normalized - and antithetical points...

While CB takes the Irish Goodbye as an escort for the Basket in the Reeds, everyone else heads over to the damaged escort ship to see if they can't damage it a bit further. Bras and Irish Goodbye at Blake Show Live by Maine's Coast 93.1
Jesse Mulligan is joined by Panel host Wallace Chapman, and producer Tessa Guest. They discuss the art of the Irish Goodbye and whether a Central Wellington suburb should have a name change.
Welcome back to Who Are These Guys?, the only podcast where sarcasm is an art form and day drinking is a science. This week, Jesse, JK, and Kurt dissect the beauty of the Irish Goodbye - because saying goodbye is for amateurs. Then, we take a deep dive into the fine-tuned mechanics of day drinking: the peak hours, the inevitable crash, and why it almost always ends in either a fight or a nap.Other highlights include:⚡ Jesse's alleged return from the dead (again)⚡ The great vibrator debate - do all women really have one?⚡ Drunk friends vs. regular friends: why the former are the worst⚡ The awkward gym couple: sunglasses inside and public makeout sessions⚡ The absolute necessity of a post-dinner fancy drink (because we're adults, damn it)Oh, and of course - more updates on Kurt's questionable training regimen for the upcoming boxing match. Will he train? Will he forget? Will he show up wearing a tank top? The suspense is thrilling.Buckle up, crack a cold one (at the appropriate hour), and get ready to laugh, groan, and maybe even learn something (but probably not).

Listen in on to find out what that even means, how they define their relationships to feminism, how they own their strengths, and how we can learn from the women around us. New episode out now! We cover the season two episode of Elementary “Dead Clade Walking”, starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu as a modern-day Holmes and Watson living in New York City. We talk about this version of the duo compared to the books, and how the characters and their dynamic were adapted to become a CBS procedural. We appreciate the show's treatment of addiction and how it affects the characters in short and long term ways, and discuss how in this particular episode the mystery was almost secondary to Sherlock's struggles and growth as a sponsor. We enjoy the realistic and thought-out mannerisms imbued into the characters, think the wardrobe choices are excellent, are relieved by the lack of romance, and love that Sherlock remains a drama queen. Katy brags again about her single semester of geology, Carrie thinks paleontologists can't be attractive or it's suspicious, Maddy makes a great Lord of the Rings joke no one catches, and Mack shares his fossilization grift. We also reveal our family's version of the Irish Goodbye, discuss the nonsense within but occasional necessity for academia, learn about dinosaurs and their relative time within the geological world, and get judgemental about shallot cutting techniques. Listen for more about learning languages, Sue the T. rex, trepanation as a metaphor, John Noble's filmography, cyclops myths, and the legacy of Styrofoam. Enjoy! Rolling Stone journalist Miles Klee brings a selection of French melancholia, Jamaica Kincaid, and tells how Mark Twain inspired Wil E. Coyote and Looney Tunes. He and Joshua briefly bond over riding the bus in L.A. to get to the podcast recording and delve into the joy of an Irish Goodbye. After listening to Miles tell of a story where the protagonist hates being at a party in one of his books, Joshua even wonders if the entire pleasure for introverts at a party isn't building up enough tension to feel the relief of leaving.Remember to rate the podcast! Thursday's 7am hour of Mac & Cube started off with us having to explain what an Irish Goodbye is to Damian; then, because Greg wants to stay current with the news, he's completely surprised by that massive car theft in Arab; later, we go a little MAXX (Spring) BALL with Arkansas; and finally, in lieu of a disappointing Top-3 from Damian, the guys say why they wish they could sing.
