How can a public space help someone who's in the middle of a depressive episode? And what does it mean to design with emotional experiences in mind? In this episode of People Behind the Plans, planner and design researcher Kelsey Zlevor joins APA Editor in Chief Meghan Stromberg to explore how parks, streetscapes, and public spaces can be intentionally crafted to support people living with depression and anxiety. Drawing from dozens of interviews and her own lived experience, Kelsey introduces four “design amendments” that planners can use to shape spaces that feel more emotionally inclusive and less overwhelming — particularly for people navigating mental health conditions. The conversation builds on Kelsey's illustrated book Mental Landscapes, a self-published guide designed to help planners, designers, and community leaders take the emotional and psychological experience of place seriously — without making it clinical or inaccessible. Together, Meghan and Kelsey unpack what it means to feel seen in public space, why awe and observation matter, and how something as simple as removing a “Keep Off the Grass” sign can open the door to healing. Whether you're a park planner, an equity advocate, or someone navigating your own emotional landscape, this episode offers insight into the subtle power of design — and the radical potential of listening. Bryan shares insights from trans journalist Erin Reed about how politicians like Gavin Newsom are pivoting to a bullying Republican playbook, and how Democrats are trying to minimize the efforts for pro-trans legislation because of conservative pushback. What started as a study tool has grown into a nationally recognized podcast. When Nebraska planners Stephanie Rouse and Jennifer Hiatt volunteered to read through the AICP exam's recommended reading list, they decided to share the workload—and the insights—by creating a podcast. Four seasons later, Booked on Planning has evolved into an engaging platform where planners can explore big ideas through conversations with authors of classic and contemporary works. In this episode of People Behind the Plans, APA Editor in Chief Meghan Stromberg talks with Stephanie and Jennifer about their unexpected journey into podcasting, the behind-the-scenes work that keeps Booked on Planning running, and how reading has shaped their careers. They discuss the books that surprised them, the ones they believe will become new staples of the profession, and the lessons they've carried back into their day jobs. Jennifer and Stephanie also reflect on the power of making space for diverse voices in planning, sharing why they believe every planner—no matter their age or experience—has something unique to contribute. From funny stories of interviewing legends like Donald Shoup to practical insights on launching a podcast, this conversation is a reminder that curiosity, collaboration, and storytelling are central to the planning profession. Are you wondering why Your SaaS GTM Isn't Working, And How to Fix It with Operational Discipline? In today's competitive business environment, success depends not just on great products, but on how effectively you bring them to market. Yet, many companies struggle with go-to-market (GTM) strategies that fall apart under pressure. Why? Because marketing and sales often operate in silos, pulling in different directions instead of working as a unified force. Think of it this way: marketing should act as the recon team, gathering intelligence, identifying opportunities, and setting the stage. Sales, on the other hand, is the strike team—responsible for execution and closing. When these two functions are misaligned or overloaded with conflicting motions, the result is confusion, inefficiency, and missed revenue. In this episode of the Grow Your B2B SaaS Podcast, Joran Hofman sits down with Head of GTM Garrath Robinson to explore why most GTM strategies fail—and how a disciplined, military-inspired approach can help businesses stay focused, aligned, and ready to win.Key Timecodes(0:00) – The Battlefield of Business(1:12) – Meet Garrath Robinson: From Combat Veteran to Growth Architect(1:39) – GTM Gone Wrong: Real-World Horror Stories(5:52) – What Is a Go-To-Market Motion, Really?(7:17) – When Motions Collide(8:33) – Leadership Fails and GTM Breakdown(13:26) – Inside the Strike Operating System(19:51) – Signal Calibration: Finding What Really Moves the Needle(22:47) – Marketing 2.0: From Arts & Crafts to Operational Powerhouse(26:09) – Avoiding the GTM Trap: Common Pitfalls to Watch For(31:43) – Give It Time: The Patience Behind Real Transformation(33:16) – The People Behind the Process(35:12) – Garrath's Golden Rule: Discipline Over Dollars(36:41) – Building the Future: Gut Instinct, Fundamentals, and Human Connection(39:33) – Scaling Revenue: From 0 to $10K MRR and Beyond(44:15) – Wrapping Up: Key Takeaways + Connect with Garrath Robinson

When it comes to wellness, many people are overwhelmed by all the choices. From supplements to shakes to oils, it can be hard to know what actually works and who to trust. Some products promise quick results. Others sound too good to be true. And with so much information online, it's easy to feel confused or unsure. That's why real conversations matter. Sometimes, what people need most is not a product but someone who listens, shares honestly, and points them toward small steps that make a real difference. The truth is, wellness should never feel like pressure. It's not about being perfect or doing everything at once. It's about finding what works for your body and your life. That often starts with education, asking questions, learning what ingredients actually do, and being open to trying something new without guilt or fear. When health and wellness are offered with kindness, patience, and honesty, it becomes easier to focus on what really matters. At the end of the day, wellness isn't about selling or following trends. It's about helping others feel good, live well, and make informed choices that truly support their health. And sometimes, the simplest tools shared with care can have the biggest impact. Raina Windham is a dynamic entrepreneur, devoted mother and wife, and the Senior Vice President of Bravenly Global. With a passion for health and wellness, she leads efforts to promote natural, science-backed products designed to help people feel better, look better, and live healthier lives. We talk about the importance of trust, clean ingredients, and how simple wellness tools can support busy people like moms, teachers, and caregivers. Raina also shares why it's okay to ask questions, learn first, and take care of your own health without pressure. What do improv comedy and planning have in common? According to Phil Green, AICP —more than you'd think. A practicing planner and seasoned improviser, Phil shares with APA Editor in Chief Meghan Stromberg how tools from the improv stage—like active listening, quick thinking, and collaborative storytelling—can empower planners to navigate tough questions, community tensions, and even mundane fence permits with humor and humanity. In this episode of People Behind the Plans, Phil brings to life the unexpected intersections of comedy and civic engagement, explaining how improv can boost a planner's confidence, empathy, and ability to lead with presence. Leaving people behind can be painful, but it's often necessary when you've chosen growth, healing, and self-trust. There will be moments when you realize that not everyone will walk the path you're on, and that's okay. Even though it can feel like it, letting go doesn't mean you're too much; it simply means you're stepping into deeper spaces that some people haven't reached yet. Also, the depth of connection is not just about what you bring. For a long time, I thought what I brought would be enough because I could make up for what the other person lacked, but it's also about how deeply the other person has explored their own heart and soul. Ending relationships while you're on a journey of finding yourself is one of the hardest things you'll ever do. It's gut-wrenching, messy, and often feels like the universe is testing you. But it's also a powerful lesson in choosing yourself, even when it feels impossible. In this episode, I'll explore how to navigate the grief of leaving people behind, adjust to relationships, or saying goodbye with grace, all while honoring your own healing. Download the worksheet to dig deeper into this process at http://andreaowen.com/668 What you'll hear about in this episode: Understanding the Pull to Let Go of Certain Relationships: Healing and aligning with your values leads to craving depth in relationships, revealing gaps; surrendering to the truth, not the fantasy; avoiding self-abandonment, and trusting yourself to let go when hope keeps you stuck. The Grief of Actually Letting Go: The grief of holding out hope that someone will change can feel easier than the grief of accepting them as they are. Creating Boundaries, Making Adjustments, and Saying Goodbye: How to adjust relationships, set boundaries, and say goodbye with love and clarity, while honoring your healing and not self-abandoning for someone else's comfort. A 54 Hour Sprint to Drive Positive Change Imagine dedicating a weekend to transforming an idea into a tangible business, surrounded by experienced mentors, industry leaders, and a community of like-minded women, all committed to making a real impact. This is the essence of Techstars Startup Weekend Women Dublin, where female entrepreneurs come together to build enterprises that tackle pressing challenges in society and business. Taking place from 21-23 March at Accenture Song, Dublin, this intensive event brings together women of diverse backgrounds - some stepping into entrepreneurship for the first time, others looking to take their experience in a new direction. The theme, "Business for Good," reflects a growing movement where commercial success and social impact go hand in hand. And, even though it says women in the title, everyone is welcome! For more information Eventbrite Booking Startup Weekend Championing Purpose-Driven Entrepreneurship In today's business landscape, sustainability, ethical leadership, and social impact are no longer afterthoughts, they are driving forces for change. Female-led startups are leading the way, tackling challenges from climate change to financial inclusion, from education to ethical AI. Caitlin Hafer, the lead organiser and founder of What the Hack, has shaped this year's event around that very idea. "Entrepreneurship isn't just about profit, it's about purpose," she says. "This weekend is about proving that business can create real, positive change." The People Behind the Weekend Pulling together an event like this takes a team of experienced organisers, dedicated volunteers, and hands-on mentors. Alongside Caitlin, the planning team, Israel Ngombo, Deirdre McCarthy, Sharon Ramsey, Miren M. Samper, and Poorvi Gupta have worked to create a weekend that's both challenging and inspiring for participants. Mentors play a crucial role across the weekend, offering real-world advice, strategic insights, and the occasional reality check. This year, participants will have the opportunity to work with Aine Mulloy, Eugene Mitchell, Gloria Rull, Jenny Ervine, Laura Enache, Lauren O'Reilly, Leyla Karaha, Melissa Roa, Mike O'Dea, Sarah Fleisberg, and Sorcha Mulligan. (I'll also be there, bringing my own experience as a business mentor, having previously served as a judge at last year's event). Speaking of judges, Sunday's pitch session will be the defining moment of the weekend, where teams present their businesses to an expert panel. This year, the judging panel includes Anne Brady, Fiona Nagle, Raisa Pokrovskaya, and Mairin Murray - leaders in business, investment, and social impact. Their role? To offer constructive feedback, challenge assumptions, and highlight which ideas have real potential. What Happens Over the Weekend? Friday night is all about getting started. Participants pitch their ideas in one-minute presentations, after which teams form around the strongest concepts. Saturday is the big workday. With guidance from mentors, teams refine their business models, customer validation strategies, and product concepts, ensuring that they are building something that can work beyond the weekend. Sunday brings the final push. Teams polish their pitches before presenting them to the judges and a wider audience. Some will win prizes. Others will walk away with something just as valuable, a business idea with the potential to grow into something much bigger. "We're looking for ideas that go beyond the weekend," says Caitlin, "it's not just about innovation, it's about creating something with lasting impact." Why It Matters: Closing the Funding Gap Despite the success of female entrepreneurs, access to funding remains a significant challenge. Globally, startups founded solely by women received just 2% of venture capital funding in 2023. In Europe, that figure was 1.8%. In Ireland, the numbers are improving. A Tech Ireland report found that one in four startups that raised investment in 2022 had a fe...

This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.public.newsFor many, the Executive Order issued last month by President Donald Trump to declassify and release the remaining records relating to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy is not that interesting or important. There's little evidence to support the conspiracy theories that anyone other than Lee Harvey Oswald killed former President John F. Kennedy, say journalists and historians. Oswald was a Left-wing extremist who had strong rifle skills from his time in the military. He could have shot Kennedy from the book depository behind the former president. Neither the investigation of the murder by Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren nor any other in the 60 years since has produced evidence that can't be explained. In truth, there are significant problems with the conventional explanation of Kennedy's assassination, and understanding what happened is essential to protecting America's democratic system, which assassinations, particularly ones that may have involved US government officials and agencies, undermine. There is evidence that Oswald didn't hate and rather admired Kennedy, particularly for what he had done for civil rights. And if Oswald had been motivated by politics to kill Kennedy, why would he have denied it when caught, claiming to be a “patsy,” a person set up to take the blame for a crime they didn't commit? If no other shooters were involved, then why does the famous Zapruder film of the assassination show Kennedy being shot in the front of the head at an angle Oswald did not have? And why did a man tied to the criminal underworld kill Oswald two days after the Kennedy assassination?
